No they are not paying for shipping and taxes, but you don't have to trust me, contact their support and ask them yourself.
That is their support who wrote that - their reddit support. I know that Ledger is awfully slow when it comes to replying to customer concerns (especially if isn't something urgent), but I sent them an email nevertheless. If and when they reply back, I will share the information here including screenshots to back it up.

In the meantime, if someone is active over Reddit and has an account there, they could also ask them about their refund policy. Ask that Btchip guy (or whatever his name is) whether or not they will cover all charges for bricked devices due to firmware upgrades.
6862  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Show off your hardware wallet on: December 08, 2021, 09:35:15 AM
here's mine  Grin
I had to laugh when I saw the HW.1. So does it actually hold any coins and does it even work nowadays?

At the office and in my banksafe, i have a ledger, trezor one and trezor T laying around... But since covid prevents me from going to the office, i can't provide pictures.
Which Ledger, the S or X? Do you use all three (actually all four) hardware wallets? Asking because I want to know whether I should add all four devices into the table next to your name. Smiley
6863  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: December 08, 2021, 09:24:41 AM
This is NOT true and I didn't take anything out of context, because support also answered a hypothetical question asked by OP when he asked what would happen if he returned malfunctioned device and then he received device that has the same issues.
Replacement is happening only when you return them broken device (if it is inside warranty) and you will have to pay all shipping, customs and tax yourself again.
Their support also replied just below the screenshot that you posted that all charges incurred for the replacement device will be refunded to the user by Ledger. If they refund all charges, that should include shipping and taxes as well.

One of their "solutions" is to let the battery run out. But that's, of course, far from optimal and it's not something you can do if you face the freezing problem multiple times.

If your warranty is expired you will have to buy a new device if you update firmware and brake your device.
That's not mentioned in the reddit post you shared but I think that should be correct. If the warranty has expired and it breaks, they may not want to replace it. The only way to find out for sure is if you ask them whether or not they will replace a device that broke due to a firmware upgrade even if it's not under warranty anymore. Bad practice if you ask me. If a device breaks because of their own firmware upgrade, it should be replaced no matter if it's still under warranty or not.

BTW, maybe someone have one of these limited edition Ledger like Bitcoin Pizza Day edition or Bitcoin White Papper edition?
I created this same thread in my local Croatian sub-forum to see what people were using there as well. And one of our local members uses a Ledger Nano X "Genesis Block Edition". You can see his post and a few of the pictures he uploaded of the device here. The only difference between the standard and the Genesis Block Edition is in the engraving that is present on the stainless steel cover.

Tu volim sačekati i do mjesec dana.

Is that a fresh screenshot that you made when you constructed that post?
I looked at the Specials on Sportsbet and I can't find that market. I see Oscar winners, UK and US politics, and BBC personalities. Btw, what's the odd that the price won't be over $100k on Christmas day?
6867  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bumping old threads or topics? (Topic not updated) on: December 07, 2021, 05:52:48 PM
That's a good catch bro and I don't know what's the reason why they bum old threads even though they already know the forum rules.
It's rather simple really. His signature campaign requires posts to be made in the gambling boards. He is writing those low-effort things making a remark about the design of the site or the speed of the casino, offering some advice and things he doesn't like. And he keeps repeating and recycling the same posts all the time. He easily meets his posting quota because the gambling board is difficult to moderate for the admins due to the sheer amount of posts and spam, and because not many people report rule offenders in the gambling boards, I would assume.

Koristim Ledger Nano S, kupio sam ga krajem 2017 i super sam zadovoljan s njim.
Pa daj da vidimo. Izvadi ga Trofo!

At first I was wondering what is that Nano S doing in the background on your screen and why don't you mention that you have one of those as well. Then I realized that it's this thread that's open and visible on your computer screen.

I have the same ledger nano s model as most people here are posting.
Where is the picture to back up your claims? Grin No picture - no hardware wallet.

Nowadays  I use it once a month,  as here im Brazil we are allowed to sell each month about 5k usd per month without paying tax gains.
That's a really nice law. And the timeframe in which you have been holding your coins doesn't matter? Holding them for one day or one year is treated the same way?
6870  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: December 07, 2021, 10:05:39 AM
Or the reason may be different, for example, Ledger adds a backdoor or something like that. We can't check because of the hidden source code.
But if the code was public you would be able to spot that instantly, wouldn't you? You actually answered that in your next post, so it's just a rhetorical question. Open-source software is always the better option, but let's not kid ourselves. A big majority of people have no knowledge about coding, they are just drawn to the idea that it's public and verifiable. There is nothing wrong with that, but it would be interesting to do a test and modify a bit of a code to make it seem malicious and wait to see how much time it will take for people to spot it. Obviously no one would want to do that and mess with their company's reputation. I don't think there are more than 10 people on this forum with the technical skills to understand each line of code. Even if there were more, how many of them are active checking each new release and code modification?

It's hard not to be paranoid about a company that has been damaging its credibility after losing its users' data. Whatever the representatives of the company say after that, the attitude towards them will never be the same.
I can't disagree. As a Ledger user myself, that HW is no longer my first choice if I needed a new one. But let's separate privacy concerns from the safety of funds. The hardware wallet does what it was designed to do. It was designed to keep your private keys safe.

Everything that happened with the database leaks is surely not something they did intentionally. Why would they introduce a backdoor now? If that was the goal all along, wouldn't it have made more sense doing it while their reputation was better to affect as many people as possible? The battery problem is a different matter. That's Ledger's mistake and the fault with those working on assembling the devices.
6871  Other / Meta / Re: Interesting facts about the merit system on: December 07, 2021, 09:34:34 AM
The problem with bounty hunters is that they don't understand that they can participate in their bounties but still make some effort to create decent posts in other areas of the forum. But they don't care, and they don't want to do that. That's why many users don't like them. Especially social media spammers. Why can't you be a designer who creates artwork for new projects, does translations, or writes articles, but in the same time has a genuine interest in Bitcoin and participates in discussions on those subjects like a normal human being? You don't get many of those. Bounty hunters are mostly focused on their tokens.

Established members and merit sources have altcoin subs on ignore or they simply don't go there. Bounty hunters post mainly in those sections. Add those two pieces of info together and you get the reason why those willing to discuss things normally are users who get merited and are meriting others with similar interests.

Well, theymos solved the mystery behind the custom title. But even if he didn't, we could have assumed that it was either him or Cyrus (not sure if Cyrus has the authorization to create custom titles) who added it. Back in the days, you could have donated 50 BTC to become a forum VIP which also gave you the ability to pick a custom title. I doubt we will ever see someone do that again. So if it happens again, it's either because theymos did it on his own or he was in a good mood when someone asked him to do it.
6873  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pokažite nam svoj hardverski novčanik on: December 07, 2021, 08:52:08 AM
6874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 06, 2021, 02:32:09 PM
Can't believe that Napoli ended up losing to Atalanta. Don't get me wrong, Atalanta has been on a crazy roll, they have won 5 out of last 5 as far as I can see, they have been amazing and they are fourth and only 2 point difference between Napoli. However, Napoli has been going through a rough patch and their crazy good start seems to be slipping away from them as well, so it looks like it is a bit of a problem for sure.
Napoli has been quite unlucky recently with injured players who are all starters. If you look back on the match against Atalanta, they had to play without their two starting central defenders Manolas and Koulibaly. Lobotka began in the midfield because Ruiz was injured and Stanislav isn't really up to the task. They had to overcome injury concerns in attack as well. Insigne got injured and Victor Osimhen is out for a long time already with a facial injury. If you take all that into considerations, Atalanta had a great chance to bring some points back and they succeeded in doing that.
6875  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pokažite nam svoj hardverski novčanik on: December 06, 2021, 02:17:57 PM

6876  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Crypto Scams ! on: December 06, 2021, 10:36:37 AM
That's not entirely accurate most (if not all) projects these days do give out freecoins every now and then for marketing purposes...
Let me correct that for you. Most unlisted ICO, IEO, or whatever the newest project trend is give out free coins in the form of airdrops. You don't see established coins do that. Are there official Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, Solana giveaways that we should know about?

and besides how is it scam if the airdrop is free aka no deposit is required to receive it ?
Airdrops and giveaways are no longer free. They require you to perform certain social media tasks. They are represented as free but they are more of a bounty.

An airdrop can have a malicious smart contract that steals your valuable tokens from your address. It could be pointing to an address where you are asked to perform a verification, download an app, and similar things. One trick that is being used is that a fake MetaMask pops up asking you to update your MetaMask. If you do, you install malware on your device.

Another way to trick the user is when he attempts to swap the airdropped tokens for some other asset. MetaMask pops up asking to confirm the transaction. What it actually does is it asks your permission to transfer a different valuable asset from your account. If you aren't careful and don't check and verify everything (and many people are too lazy to do that), you might give the required permissions and have your tokens stolen.

Not to mention that people are still falling for the "enter your seed phrase in this form for whatever reason" type of scams.
6877  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the difference between seed phrase and private key? on: December 06, 2021, 10:15:05 AM
A private key is a big random number represented in alphanumeric format.
You are not wrong in the way you explained what a private key is because the Bitcoin Wiki refers to private keys as "secret numbers" as well. But I have always wondered why they opted for that terminology? Why call a string made up of letters and numbers (alphanumeric string) a number? I guess there is a logical explanation behind it.
6878  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bumping old threads or topics? (Topic not updated) on: December 06, 2021, 09:59:58 AM
One user that keeps doing that in a very annoying fashion is SmokerFace. It's probably got to do with his acceptance in the 1xBit signature campaign. He is basically replying similar, generic, and low-effort posts in multiple ANN threads of casinos in the gambling board. Many of those replies end with him wishing the site good luck and stuff like that.

Here are just a few examples of what I am talking about:

It's good that you are offering 3 deposit bonuses. I Believe no other site is offering to this extent it may attract many new players. As for the website, it looks pretty cool and user-friendly. Everything is so simple. Didn't face any issues regarding loading time, customer support, and signup.
But here I am confused about the KYC procedure for fiat as it's not clearly mentioned. Rest is fine. I wish you good luck with this site.
I have visited your website it found it very interesting. It's very simple and user-friendly, easily accessible on both Mobile and desktop. The loading time of the site is normal. Also, I like the free live streaming feature for most of the races.
Also, it's good that there isn't any account setup or maintenance fee and has 24/7 support. Indeed all the features seem good for a user-friendly website, it may attract many new users. I wish you good luck with this site.
First of all welcome to the forum. Have visited your website, the loading time was high but the website seems pretty cool as compared to the other website of this nature. I really like the layout and theme of this website. Also please specify that are there any signup bonuses? or referral bonuses. For the website, it seems pretty fine but there must be some attractive offers that may attract new users to get registered on this site.
I really appreciate your efforts in making such a platform on which people can share their experiences and a lot of other people can read and get guidance from them. A lot of people among us have faced many scams, this platform can help many others to save their investments and deposit.
As for the website, it's really cool and the layout is awesome. Very user-friendly and the loading time was also fine. Keep it up, guys.
The layout of the website is very simple and not much attractive to the users also loading time was high. it's didn't get opened on a mobile device. Also no option for live support and no complete details of the withdrawal policy. You need to work more on this website.
The concept of this site is good, as it's good to know that a poker website accepts crypto. But please pay more attention to the details.

Imao sam Ledger Nano S jos od 2016-e ja mislim, pa sam ga upgrejdao na Nano X "Genesis Block Edition" pocetkom 2019-e.
I iskreno prezadovoljan sam.

Wink
6880  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: December 06, 2021, 09:36:40 AM
We have two problems on this forum, more and more old members are leaving the forum and fewer and fewer new members are coming.
People get older, tired of their online habits, and life is taking its toll on them. Those are some of the reasons users are leaving, but there are of course others. I think we are getting some new members, however their reasons for joining and signing up is not to participate in discussions, learning, and spreading their own knowledge. That's the problem.

Most of the newbies that come to Bitcointalk can be divided in two:
1. Those who seek help with a problem they have.
2. Those who have read or have been told that they can earn on Bitcointalk.

The first group simply leaves after they have gotten the answers they are looking for.
Members who belong to the second group explore various earning opportunities (bounties, airdrops, the occasional signature campaign) and aren't really interested to participate in or try to create interesting threads and discussions.
