By the way, we're having a terrific NY party, and we offer nice welcome perks: open bar for ATH's!
Just in case you're considering...

He is definitely not coming. Couldn't make it. He has sent us some Xmas gifts though:

I think Indamuck got it the other way around.  And it's not really just about the 'privacy thing' but the 'tail emission thing' that's gonna show the space that 'oh sh*t, something like that should've been implemented in BTC'.

I don't think BTC's fee market is gonna be 'a thing' in the long run.

The governance of BTC has become the same as any government throughout history.

Hello
Please, explain the situation with the exchange livecoin.net.
They closed the withdrawal of monero, until the conflict with the monero developers is resolved.

There is no reason why they should not send you your coins.

find more information about this situation:
in luly 2018, the livecoin.net lost $ 1.8 million due to the vulnerability in the monero code.
after they froze the withdrawal, as I understand, until the issue of compensation is resolved.

I would like to hear developers Monero, about this situation.

ROTFLMFAO!!! They got double spent because they cannot do their own checks.

tough shit, they got caught in a bug.

There is no Premine to save them.

If you are waiting for them to get coins from no-where then you are SOL.

Maybe they should learn OpSec before opening an exchange.
6864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 16, 2018, 02:56:21 PM

Basically, we are hodling and passing through dark times.  It is tough.  We may, or may not be right.  But if we are right, these will be the times we will feel vindicated by.

I am betting (and buying) on a gut feeling we are right.  So are you (you're still here, right?) and it's too late to sell at the top, too late for pointless hindsight. Now we can only take the pain, sit it out and find out.

If it works out, we will have EARNED the right to feel smug as fuck that we were right all along.

And I think we are right.

OMG kurious, this this this a thousand times THIS.  Thank you for saying it, resonated with me *bigly* right now.

Personally I'm basically fully OUT of crypto now, and looking back on last up/down crazy-ass cycle we are now emerging out of, I've decided to just look at it all as the last, final, "practice run" before the REAL SHOW will begin.

I watched the crypto run from $100 to $1,000 the first time.
I participated in the run from $1,000 to $10,000 second time (overshot to $20K yeah but really it should've been "only" 10k)

WHEN not IF this all goes *whoosh boom* again, it'll be the second-to-last 10-bagger mooning and cycle will be 10K to 100K (the 100K to 1Million theoretical run may not ever happen, IMO)

So THAT is the ONE we-all gotta be prepped ready aware awake and fully on our TOES to take advantage of.

And when it comes and I'm playin' it like a boss... goddamn you better fucking BELIEVE Ima be fucking SMUG as HELL about it.  LOL

 Grin

P.S. There was a time once, long long ago 'way back in the mists of time when I actually owned a wallet that held 1,000 Monero: please keep up this retracement HoneyPony! I am hopeful I will once again be able to afford to replace that stack  Grin

I agree with you both.

These are hard times for sure.  But how many times have we seen it?

This whole event... unfolding... whatever it is... makes me regret not being 25.  I mean I have quite a few good years left, but I don't think we are going to even see the tip of the iceberg for 20+ years.  Who on Earth knows what it will look like in 50?

I am a bitcoin maximalist in that I think Bitcoin will gobble up every crypto "feature" developed in other coins over time, but ONE.  And, I think, only ONE coin does something Bitcoin never can.

This is why it is not on that list of smoldering garbage Coinbase added recently.  I used to think people who said "We don't really want to be on Coinbase" were crazy (I have never used Coinbase lol).  Now I get it.  TPTB are terrified this project just might be successful.  All of them... governments, corporations, etc.

I think they got a pretty good ride coming.

We do too... but from the vantage point of the Engine Car. Wink

Bitcoin is a much safer bet at this point, Monero is losing rank on coinmarketcap and the daily volume is very low now.  I don't want to be left holding worthless alts at this point so I'm going to stick with the only trusted coin, BTC.  Goodluck with this coin if your staying invested in it but there is a good chance most of these
altcoins will die out.

I know the whole privacy thing but the majority of people don't care about that and there are a lot of other upcoming projects with privacy features.  I just don't see monero surviving.

Please name one you think will be able to usurp Monero's privacy set.

Just one please.

6868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2018, 05:29:17 PM
Sometimes i think it only needs 17 millions people to buy one bitcoin and hold, and then the price seems strangely ridiculously low
Some ~500m claim to own some crypto. Not all of those will own Bitcoin, and most will own small fractions barely distinguishable from dust. Majority of retail investors are panic dumpers too when left to their own tools. Then there's technical trading. I don't really think the price is "strangely" low at all, especially if you consider the FUD and smear campaigns by big finance on top of the aforementioned facts.

As soon as the bankers decide they have shaken the tree for all it's worth we will be seeing a pump with corresponding reports on all the regular news channels about how there is only 21 million ever. That word will get out when they want it dished out to the unwashed masses and then the sheeple will FOMO and if your not in by then then you have missed the last chance to get multi times profit.
6869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 15, 2018, 05:03:40 PM
I decided that I would sell all my Monero coins and buy Ethereum, it seems to me that it is much more promising and will be able to show much more growth than Monero does. Which coin do you think is stronger? Something I stopped believing in Monero, too many competitors.

I used to be optimistic but there is really no future for Monero, there are just too many other altcoins that can do privacy.  Wish I sold earlier but I dumped the rest I had because I don't want to hold this all the way down to near zero.

Lol, On the next Parabolic rise you will be FOMOing your ass off. NO other coin can match Moneros privacy, as a matter of fact none even come close and most aren't even fungible. These shitcoins that call themselfs private don't even understand the word fungible.

Well I just spent an hour of my life trying to install Minecraft for a child.

After endless loops of “unknown error”, “ there was an error processing your credit card transaction please try again” and “there are no devices associated with your Microsoft account”, despite the fact that the device that I was on being clearly associated with the account in the account settings, I have given up. Much harder to use than bitcoin

Child was disappointed.  Fuck you Microsoft.

Yup, Fuck M$! Days wasted on dependencies for Civ 6. M$ has tied every dependency to haveing telemetry type updates mandatory for C++ libraries. I eventually installed Linux in a VM just for the game and even the Opengl version is a bitch to setup.

GF needs to get a job and buy the dip.

Told my gf yesterday she is done shopping. BTC is too low. She was ok with that.

Good girl! Smiley

My gf of 10 years (we are early 30’s - got together young) is currently in the phase of telling me that I ruined ‘our lives by not selling when it was $19,000’.

Tell her you intend to ruin your lives by not selling at $250k either.

This would drive her batshit crazy!

I have decided to write about what have been my errors during the past bull run and subsequent downtrend till now.

First and foremost, when the time comes take some fucking profits. It doesn't need to be huge and it certainly would vary depending the individual circumstances but take some. It will make you feel better during the bear trend. It may be as low as 5%, 10%.... maybe a bigger amount if you plan to "gamble" on rebuying later in the downtrend.

How do you know when the time has come? Well, hitting a perfect top is just a matter of luck but, hitting somewhere NEAR the top is much more easy:

- You start receiving calls from nocoiners that are now suddenly interested in investing. They usually ask you for advice on what coins are a good buy... because Bitcoin is already too expensive you know....

- Exchanges can't cope with the demand. The trading engines not only lag extremely, but the verification queue for new users are weeks or even months long. Some even stop accepting new users.

- You start to feel that the rise has reached completely ridiculous levels and it should implode.... But since you already thought that a few thousands ago... why would it not keep pumping much more? Yeah, you feel like you are going to be richer than your wildest dreams!

- You start to feel not only as if you did a great investment but as if you had just hit some fucking and totally undeserved big lotto prize.

- You feel that the price has come so much higher than you would have expected (in that short timeframe) that, even when the necessary "correction" comes, the bottom will still be so high that you won't care about not having sold ANY... Because, you know, this time (tm) Bitcoin is so well known and popular that price would not decimate, maybe not even halve (and of course that $10K you never expected to be broken so soon nor so easily will act as an ultimate support in the worst case, yeah!).

I could add more signals of when the top has been reached or is very near, but I guess that's more than enough to get the idea.

This is getting long, so I think I will better be writing this as a series of posts... Some ideas I have in mind about more mistakes I did and how to improve on them are:

- Realizing you are in a clear downtrend and what to do during it.
- Hedging with alts during the bullrun, near the top, and on the downtrend. Hedging with stablecoins (ie USDT).
- Managing exchanges and FIAT ramps for profit (diversify risk and get them all ready well in advance)...
- Lending

I am writing this as advice for my future self, but hope it gets useful to someone else. Will continue.

IOU sM+

I don't see "normal" lab meat not becoming mainstream, but I wonder if people would remain put off from human meat if the biggest deterrent (killing humans) is removed.

It seems gross to me on a more emotional/impulsive level, but rationally speaking I don't see anything speaking against it.

Isn't cows eating cows theorized as the vector for mad cow disease?

Feeding them the brains of infected cows passes the disease.

BTW these fucking hats don't work but whatever.

F*** i'm sick AF, sitting home and my two main poker bro's are playing HU, normal i'm there, hope to be better next week.... Cheesy

(offcourse cause we play for BTC the stacks are in different calculations ....) its not 20 and 5 bucks....
f*** they really just started whitout me Roll Eyes
have to rail and watch @home

i like the avatars haha LoL

have to start my earnings next week i guess

Shit I said I wouldn't look at the price till I got home but no I had to take a peek. Dammit.
So is that btc on the table? If so you guys play some high stakes. And you said it's a home game so you are all in the same room just using that software? that's pretty cool, I like to look my opponents in the eye so I have never played online. Got smashed with a 3 outter for a butt ton and had to take some time off, Omaha PLO can get to some pretty high stakes!
I'll be playing for the next 8 hours or so and then head home for the weekend. A few guys were talking about 3 card poker at the table and I may look into it, all I know about it is from the movie Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels (one of my favorites). They really capture what happens when you get smashed for everything. Cheesy

Don't forget that you need to get the bitstream from the devs with time to roi as well.

sure, we get ours after all the farms that pay for private bitstreams and regulars guys in secret bitstream clubs are done. then after that, the pions like me will get the public bitstreams, just in time for reletive scraps..

IOW, same old same old but now with fpgas.

6879  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: December 12, 2018, 01:15:10 AM
last bull run gpus were almost impossible to get. and thats with nvidia and amd shoveling them out the door as fast as they could. if this happens again.. well there are a lot less fpgas to be had than there were gpus. having a few fpgas and knowing their limitations, strengths and needs will make a big difference. try building a good fpga or fpga boosted gpu based system without knowing what they need or how they function.. have fun. sure guides for noobs will come out but too late for many.

Ya but what about the fact that most coin dev's are doing what they can to keep asic and fpga's off their chain fpga's will never be a decentralized miner until one come's out that don't cost $4000-$5000 especially right now once they start flooding the chain profits are going to be shit and it'll take 10 years to ROI

fpgas will come down in price, i mean an midrange acorn is what $300? ..cheap to get your fpga feet wet. and as for the race against devs changing algos.. well algos need a lot of testing, you dont just whip something up and risk the future of a coin on some new algo thats possibly faulty or can be gamed.

in a race between fpga coders vs devs coming up with algo after algo? ill bet on the fpga coders. if my bet is wrong.. oh well.

Don't forget that you need to get the bitstream from the devs with time to roi as well.
6880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 11, 2018, 04:47:00 PM
For many people, anonymity is a big downside. There are lots of people who like the idea of public transactions because of the “got nothing to hide” mentality and they feel public transaction information would prevent people from getting ahead that aren’t abiding by the rules as stringently. XMR needs to come up with decent sales pitch.

Everyone can reveal their transactions. They can hide nothing if they want. But they also dont need to be afraid to get dirty coins. That is big problem of transparent ledger coins. You and exchanges and everyone else have to make extra effort to be sure what kind of Bitcoins he got.   With Monero you have zero worries since each Monero is totally same as all  the rest.

@cool4y, This is called fungability. It is the most important aspect of a privacy coin.
