6901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This isn't the first time the dip has happened on: May 18, 2021, 07:17:37 AM
These dips don’t matter

HODL

The dips are "stops for refueling the rocket". So they do matter, although the big ones, like this, can badly shake newbies' "confidence" in Bitcoin. (Actually in its price evolution).
Of course, those who already experienced a couple such dips are somewhat more relaxed, also because they're usually still on profit.

Ah, and not only HODL, instead also BTFD  Wink
6902  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's the motive behind the anti gambling campaign on: May 18, 2021, 07:06:08 AM
To me there is a question of whether the media's negative coverage of gambling is intended to protect people who make bad gambling or investment decisions. Or is it intended to deprive people like me of opportunities to make money.

Gambling is, by far, not a way to make money. If one believes this, then he's doing it wrong.
Gambling is one nice way to spend time and have fun. Casinos are wow, sports betting makes watching the games more intense... but caution is needed. People often forget to not bet more than they afford to lose. People get easily addicted and can lose everything - money, goods, friends, sometimes family or their life too.
Awareness is necessary. Warnings are necessary. Of course, the negativity is overkill. But doesn't the media exaggerate everything? Isn't the media nowadays farther and farther from actual news and closer to shocking non-information just to keep people there for the ads? Then why the ever high expectations about what the media tells?
6903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons DogeCoin coin flip Bitcoin in the future on: May 18, 2021, 06:57:09 AM
First of all, what does this altcoin talk do on Bitcoin discussion?!

2. Backed by a dedicated billionare that he commits to his projects. Elon Musk is not a type of guy who start something and leave it on the dust.

Right. We'll see in a couple of years. Rich guys get easily bored of their toys. So.. yeah..

3. Devs are going to improve the technology far more with Elon Musk.

The bigger problem of the technology is it's tail emission (google it), which is way too big and it's by design.
So the proper way to improve it is to make a new coin.

4. More exchangers, merchants start to accept Dogecoin and it becomes stable coin.

You have to learn what stable coin means. And Dogecoin is accepted by most exchanges and it didn't help it. And the merchants had so many years to accept it, they do accept Bitcoin and still didn't accept Dogecoin. Why that? Because it's .. "superior"?

5. Dogecoin will receive mass adoption.

Only on Reddit and 9gag.

Dogecoin used to have a great community. Now greed seems to take over. It's OK to have dreams, but please do a reality check now and then.
6904  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Samsung Hardware Wallet on: May 18, 2021, 06:48:13 AM
I fear that this could be just yet another commercial gimmick to turn (y)our eyes towards Samsung.
You can already use your HW with your smartphone, whether it's Samsung or not. Yes, you need the actual HW and you may need a proper cable too.
Smartphones are some of the most stolen goods on the planet. I don't see any good in this news.

Also don't forget that, unlike hardware wallets, the Samsung phones no longer get updates after about 1 year (or 2?).
6905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: who wants a carbon neutral bitcoin ? Plant a 100 trees for 300 USD on: May 18, 2021, 06:43:08 AM
My point : if you're a bitcoiner you are probably rich (and in 10 years you may not have to work anymore) so you can afford to plant a few trees !
A 100 trees is enough to offset 1 bitcoin, on reforestaction.com that's 300 USD !!!

Although the idea is cool, it's based on some misconceptions. Imho most bitcoiners are not rich. Also by holding bitcoin, no electricity is used. Also it's the electric companies who should be careful of their carbon footprint and if need be reflect that in the electricity price.

But I can proudly tell that I did plant myself about 10 trees and, unlike whatever website I am sure that they are alive and well and also won't get cut down in a couple of years.
6906  Other / Archival / Re: The community created a petition: Elon Musk, sell your bitcoin on: May 18, 2021, 06:36:23 AM
The more attention people give him, the more influence he can exert.  Petitions give him more attention.  You are going to achieve the complete opposite of what you set out to do.

That's correct and well said. And even if he would sell, this doesn't stop him from buying back and also doesn't shut him up.
However, it just occurred to me that maybe all this Elon story is a fake drama engineered not to fall the price, instead to gain even more awareness for Bitcoin.
6907  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anybody else feel relieved this dip finally happened? on: May 17, 2021, 02:49:19 PM
I despise the sensation, but I'm grateful that it has actually occurred. We were all expecting a 30% drop.

I wish you are right, but I am not yet convinced that this was the bottom.
Yes, afaik the S2F and the history too tell that the bottom should be here and it should guarantee a healthy run to much higher levels - at least 100k.
The problem is that there's a difference between should and will, and we cannot predict the future. But again, I hope that you're right.

I want to buy the dip, but waiting for it to reach $20k.

No, you don't. You're probably trolling and if Bitcoin price would reach 20k, instead of buying, you'll either start telling that Bitcoin is dead, either that you'll be waiting for 5k to buy.
6908  Other / Meta / Re: How to hide Elon Musk topics? Reqest for userscript on: May 17, 2021, 02:14:59 PM
Is there any way to hide topics with a specific name or special words? I'm looking for a similar feature to mute words on twitter.

Patience, like any (useless) hype, it will die off and I expect (hope?) that it'll happen soon.
So just a little more time and you won't need those  Smiley

PS. Maybe we should also start reporting the topics as duplicates...
6909  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why exactly is Bitcoin clinging to PoW? on: May 17, 2021, 01:09:43 PM
Proof of Work can't be Bitcoins destination.

Yet it is.
Without this kind of PoW, Bitcoin price would have not reached these levels and most probably you wouldn't talk about Bitcoin because you wouldn't have heard about it or your have been abandoning it already.

Also this topic was discussed 1000 times.
Also imho you've posted in the wrong board, this is not that technical...

Of course, it may be just wishful thinking  Cheesy

Thanks for the raffle, I've been missing this kind of fun, whether I win or not.
6911  Economy / Speculation / Re: By Friday 5/21 we might be thanking Elon! on: May 17, 2021, 09:56:25 AM
Elon has taken that froth out of the market.  And, possibly, put crypto on a slower, steadier, upward path.

Some may say that Elon's influence was not as big (stocks were falling too) and Bitcoin price was bound to have this dip anyhow.
Some may say that Elon's influence on the price was not intended to be this big (in case it was his influence at all).

To see if that is true we need to ride out this week.

I wouldn't set so short deadline, although I won't mind if this is met.
Still, the recovery could start only after ~31th of May.
6912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which is Better to invest in (LOGICALLY,) Bitcoin or Dodgecoin? on: May 17, 2021, 08:44:44 AM
Logically speaking, the above link lists all the negatives of BTC and pros of using Dodgecoin over BTC

So you come to Bitcoin forum in the Bitcoin area and.. I don't know, either try to convince bitcoiners that bitcoin is bad and a meme altcoin is superior, either want to get some hits for a website/blog?
Well, imho either of the two you're trying, you're doing it wrong. And in the wrong place.
6913  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2021, 07:50:06 AM
Facebook, tried that. Didn't really work out.

Coinbase and Circle, on the other hand, did USDC and it's doing great.
I think that Facebook was greedy and didn't do their homework properly. For example, the coin "basket" they've tried to use made their coin proposal become a competitor for USD. But that's just me.
6914  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2021, 07:42:45 AM
Maybe he is warming up to launch his own version of crypto LOL

He may not need that, the Dogecoiners already follow and worship him (I wonder for how long).
On the other hand an USD-Elon has the potential to bring him and Tesla way more wealth than car manufacturing and the green certificates deals. Just he has to hurry up and make that before the US Govt.
6915  Economy / Speculation / Re: Free falling Bitcoin on: May 17, 2021, 07:33:45 AM
My oh my! Since a few days back my blood pressure has being spiking higher and higher, seeing the price of Bitcoin doing a freefall. I know its prudent for an investor not to panic when the market falling, but I can't help myself starting to panic. I believe that it'd be sensible for me to sell all of my Bitcoins and wait for a suitable time to reinvest.

If you are this sensitive, the best for you would be to sell and never look back.

Bitcoin price fluctuations can be wild and some just cannot handle that. And you seem to be part of that category. This means that it's better to take care of your health, even if this means you may be losing now some bucks and may be missing the opportunity for some easy money at some point in the future. Because if your blood pressure cannot handle this, it may not handle well also a (hypothetical) jump to 90k and another (hypothetical) fall back to under 50k or even under 20k.

Anyone who has been into Bitcoin since at least 2017 will be familiar with the current trend.

On the other hand, those in this market for that long will not be scared that bad since even if it falls to 20k they're still on profit. That helps by a great deal to have a certain peace of mind, no matter what happens now.
6916  Economy / Speculation / Re: I speculate Tesla has sold their coins on: May 17, 2021, 07:24:55 AM
I speculate that they might have sold it days later

I speculate that they may be also buying them back slowly at discounted price.
And if they started a pump and dump game, they'll be doing it again, and again, as long as the (lack of) laws and the weak hands allows them profit from this.
6917  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash ($250) investment on: May 15, 2021, 07:30:00 PM
I think to become a good trader reading doesn't help a lot. What helps is experiencing it first hand and making mistakes because mistakes are painful and teach you not to repeat them. One thing that is good to start with is to not start with to much and that is what you seem to be doing. Reading adds to your knowledge, but experiencing it is different.
Regarding manipulation @Neuroticfish, that is probably the same for both BTC and BCH. Wink Who really knows what's going on between the Bitcoin billionaires?

This was about investing and not trading.

Then, for trading one has to learn and understand TA, one has to learn to "read" the news and rumors, one has to learn how to use safety nets and even then it may not be enough. And only afterwards actual experience can come. Most people around here is treating trading like gambling and sooner or later - especially if they get greedy - they get burnt.

The difference between Bitcoin is BCash is the for manipulating Bitcoin you may need billions, while for BCash much smaller amounts will do and Roger has the amounts and skills to do that with BCash as he pleases. Just my 2 satoshi...
6918  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: May 15, 2021, 07:23:44 PM
We can't update 3 million users instantly so the priority is for users who conducted some sort of activity

OK, so it's just an optimization of resources and the status update can be sometimes delayed. I can live with that  Wink
All good then; I feared it's something worse, glad it wasn't.
6919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to debunk the Bitcoin Energy Consumption drama on: May 15, 2021, 07:21:21 PM
Can the difficulty increase once it has his miminum profitability without an increase in price? No, it can't.

But the price can fall, crypto winter can go for months (years?) and the difficulty won't fall that much, not proportionally at least.

There is no chicken and egg, the difficulty follows the reward, sometimes it might now keep up p with it but never has the difficulty dictated the price.

It was said in many occasions that the difficulty follows the price and it was said in many occasions that the price follows the difficulty sooner or later. So.. yeah...

It's a freak situation, simple as that, it can't be a perpetual state of affairs and its effects will soon be negated.

Freak situations, exceptions, .. name it. There are always cases to show that the rules don't always work. Isn't that the point of all this discussion?
6920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's future (and BTC in Kuwait!) on: May 15, 2021, 01:11:44 PM
The Kuwaiti Dinar is the top currency in the world, and bitcoin was created to replace fiat. My question is: How will BTC price increase in value if people are buying it as a store of value (as opposed to using it on regular transactions?) And why are Kuwaiti's buying BTC when our currency is the top in the world? It just makes no sense to me  Huh

From what I see in charts, Bitcoin price usually increases also compared to KWD. For example look at this chart (google didn't give me a better one) and change it to 1 year or 3 years to see the bigger picture.

So people buy it as investment, on the logic that you buy "now" 1000$ worth of Bitcoin and at some point later you can sell it for 1500$, 3000, or 10000$. If you're lucky.
Bitcoin supply is limited. This means that as long as there's demand for it, as long as people buy it, no matter why, the price should increase overall. (of course, it doesn't necessarily means it will)
Bitcoin's use as a currency is still limited and I hope that it won't take that long until it'll get much better. If you look at it only as currency, you have missed half of it. Also, it's not that sure that Bitcoin will replace fiat. That won't be easy and may not be necessary. But it can work very well in parallel with all other currencies.

All in all, it can make you earn money and it also can make you lose money, so you better research more. Don't invest what you don't afford to lose, since the price goes up and down like crazy. Also, if you get easily scared by the price movements (even if you did invest money you afford to lose), then you better just stay away.
