I was glad to see everyone talking about it here, I was reading up on it and you guys helped validate my plan to switch over this weekend when I'm off shift. I'm also trying to get away from Windows so lots of changes and playing around. Thanks for all the info Though I love the enthusiasm that this coin is generating, it has almost nothing interesting about it other than its not so novel algo and the most elusive fair launch feature. But then again they will announce the roadmap on the 3rd of April. Also philipma is a veteran in the crypto world and could be seeing something that I dont. Edit: Also having this coin reach 1 dollar would be valuation similar to bitcoin being at $1000 considering its total supply. GPU mining will be fine as there are many other coins to mine from than ETH, and profitably. I also believe the GPU mining FUD is being spread by Wall Street through the media as some big money and hedge funds are betting on the Nvidia and AMD short/PUT and need fear, reduced confidence, and weak hands in stock market for this to be realized since both were flying high previously.
Yes but don't forget that huge number of cards are mining ETH, if hashrate splits to another coins, what will happen? |

Problem with this issue is that many people are using GPU mining only and are not capable of buying ASIC miners. Too expensive for the average joe to purchase those ASICS miners. Greed drives the powerful so that the weak will lose. Don't let it happen. Continue with the GPU mining.
I have a small GPU rig - 3 1070 TI's and it's a great little rig and does a very stable job of running 24/7. I understand about profitability and how important that is, but I do think it's worth it to mine at break-even if you believe in the long-term viability of a coin. For instance, I believe in RVN so even though I'm not really making much money, or any maybe, I'm enjoying the mining because I believe in the coin. If you think of how much we spend daily on things like Starbucks, or maybe cigarettes, or any number of a hundred other habits, mining at a small loss doesn't sound like a completely stupid idea, especially if you give up one of those habits. SBUX costs around $3-5 a day or more. I'll just say that I would rather "lose" that money mining than have nothing at the end of the year but 360 memories of a latte. One thing that I find kind of interesting is that the ASIC/GPU price is narrowing. The 1080 TI's on NewEgg are still around $900, but on Craigslist I'm seeing S9's for as little as $1,700 (in Los Angeles area) and I don't really think they are ALL scams. Seems like an ASIC S9 might be a better long-term investment than two 1080's ... if you believe in the Long Term value of the coins that S9's can mine, that is. But what will you do with S9 Asic when difficulty rises a lot, another model launches and your coin generated doesn't pay electricity? |
