6921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to debunk the Bitcoin Energy Consumption drama on: May 15, 2021, 11:43:35 AM
The formula is pretty simple, as you start from  solid base you will not be able to spend more on energy than you get in reward.
Here is one pretty good thanks to burtw

Actually the theory and the reality not match always, and that's basically my point.
And in the summer of 2016, while some miners were disconnecting, I am almost certain that not all of them were mining on profit. And it's clearly not the only case. And if it has happened before, it can probably happen again.

Also, what do you mean by the increase in difficulty?

The increase in difficulty is an effect of the increase in reward, remember that last year at 10k we were doing 100 Exahash, now we're doing barely double with 5 times the reward, the consumption is barely keeping up with the price because of chip shortage that leads to both Bitmain and  MicroBT get sold out even if customers are ready to pay triple the price.
I've got an insane deal buying 3 miners at just 2 and a half the price of last summer, if enough mienrs would be available at this moment you will see difficulty do another x2 in a month.

The relationship between increase of reward and increase of difficulty is not necessarily as you say. It's somewhat similar to "what was first, the chicken or the egg?".
With the current semiconductor shortage the situation is unnatural an indeed the difficulty doesn't rise as much as expected, but, on the other hand, isn't this yet another sign that the overall rule doesn't always work as expected?
6922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash ($250) investment on: May 15, 2021, 11:24:16 AM
What should I buy?any advice?

Neither. If you are asking this then you have no idea what you're doing and you don't know the differences (at least as investment) between the two coins.
Learn more and then you'll know what to do. A 250$ investment is not that time critical.

will bitcoin cash increase 50% more from its price today? or I just go to bitcoin cause it's more safe?

Do you expect us to have a crystal globe and predict the future?
Neither is really safe, it just .. one is altcoin, hence in theory even more volatile than Bitcoin; also it can be the subject of heavy price manipulation. And the other one is Bitcoin, which, now it goes downside although it's expected to be in the middle of bull run.

As I said, you have to read more and decide for yourself.

It's the same on user profile too.
6924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core help on: May 15, 2021, 09:25:04 AM
Hello before 4 years I buy miner D3 whith this miner I minning whith alghoritym x11 crypthocurency b2xsegwit now I download bitcoin core version 0.14 and a put my dat. file in bitcoin core I see recerved transactions in wallet they was recerve from miningpool but in my balance I don see nothing after this I send my bitcoin in airbitz wallet but there again I dont see anythyng in balance in the bitcoin core softhwere tell me shynhronication will be done afher 7 weeks please tell me whats is the problem I can send a picture whit problem and can enyone tell for segwitb2x in 2017 I here for consensus whith this problem in the blocks

1. Your post doesn't make much sense, maybe you take your time, structure it better and tell clearer what you have there.
2. If you mined <whatever coin> you need that somebody - either you, either the pool - convert into Bitcoin in order to actually have Bitcoin and you didn't tell if it's the case or not.
3. If you see transactions there you *might* be on the correct direction, but I think that you need it to be sync-ed in order to have correct balance and make transactions
4. How and what you sent to Airbitz if the core wallet is not synced? Can you tell us what you think you've done there with more detailed steps?

The address where the pool has sent you the coins could be of help. That should tell us:
* if you received indeed Bitcoin
* if there is still money on that address
* if and when money was sent out from there

Of course, you may be able to do that yourself, just put the address into blockchair.com
6925  Other / Meta / Re: NotATether merit source application (development and technical discussion board) on: May 15, 2021, 09:04:36 AM
I also agree that Dev & Tech (well, the entire forum) could use a couple more merit sources and OP amount of activity indeed recommends him as Merit Source.
So yep, I also support the application.
6926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to debunk the Bitcoin Energy Consumption drama on: May 15, 2021, 08:59:24 AM
Calculating the energy consumption for Bitcoin (apart from extrapolation) also neglects the fact that the whole banking system requires energy as well. A lot of energy if think it through from the very first step to the very last.

Bitcoin energy narrative always ignored the energy wasted by other activities or industries, nothing new under the sun.
And let's say that banking is probably not even that much energy hungry, but just think on advertising, or physical casinos, or, as I've read somewhere, the Christmas lights...

Actually, the extrapolation works here, if the reward double so does the miner revenue so grows the amount of energy they can pay for mining.
Double the price, double the income with a bit of ignoring ROI, and wages and maintenance double the amounts of kwh burned.

Yes and no. We don't know what the future holds. One example is the ever rising difficulty, decreasing the income/kWh.
And the advance of technology is not always able to cope, leading to increase of consumption for the same revenue.
(And if the technology is advancing, the gears are not for free either).
So.. the "formula" is more complicated and not as easily predictable.
6927  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Taxe ANAF pentru Binance Visa Card? on: May 14, 2021, 06:56:33 AM
Corect...

In general ponoase...

Insa, in ambele cazuri, nu i-a pasat, desi la final de mandat, chiar in ultima zi, presedintii acorda gratieri... Altii au primit gratieri prezidentiale.

A gratiat in principal corupti care i-au tinut spatele. Adica pe criterii mafiote, nicidecum de moralitate. Deci comparam mere cu pere...

Intre timp, adevaratul DPR ar putea fi liber. Insa chiar daca Ross a fost adevaratul DRP, cum poti sa il nenorocesti in halul asta pe un om, care era si la prima abatere in fata legii, pentru... detinerea unui site web? Cum e posibil asa ceva?

Intotdeauna exista 2 moduri de a aplica legea.
1. L-ai prins pe unul cu matza-n sac.

Celelalte chestii poate apuc sa le vad in week-end....
6928  Other / Off-topic / Re: Elon Musk loses $20B since SNL..would you believe? on: May 14, 2021, 06:20:46 AM
If this is true, then why Elon would make such a stupid action?

He is not stupid, let's say he loses in this portion but for sure he has made a profit more than he loses.

Sell high, buy low. It's not difficult to sell some, launch some bomb shells on the national television, then buy back, no matter if we talk about Bitcoin or stocks.
Of course, we don't know if he did this or not, but, as you said, he's not stupid. Impatient, maybe, but not stupid.
And he knows, and we know that after a week or two nobody will remember this and the prices should get back to normal.
6929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to debunk the Bitcoin Energy Consumption drama on: May 14, 2021, 06:15:06 AM
If you are on Twitter, tag Elon as he needs to get bombarded.

We know that Elon's narrative on Bitcoin CO2 footprint is weak, at least because Tesla knew all this before buying Bitcoin and before accepting it for car payments.

So imho the fact it's an old narrative taken back up from the dusty vaults it's not of great importance.
Plus, we already know that extrapolations are wrong:

6930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla destroys bitcoin :-[ on: May 13, 2021, 05:21:50 PM
Oh, come on now! I know the consensus is Elon is a fool, and everyone involved in Bitcoin has to hate him, but seriously he's much more than a car manufacturer. I'd say his more prolific, and impressive work is with SpaceX. So, although it does annoy me they have come out with this announcement, I won't just discredit him out of spite. I do believe this was a calculated effort to improve their brand reputation, though which just shows we the lack of courage they actually have. Since, they definitely don't have the proof that Bitcoin uses any more energy than several other industries out there.

Well, most of the news I hear about Tesla is that they won't make the number of cars they planned or that they earn more from carbon certificates than from cars.
All in all, they're not where they should be, or would like to be, hence my statement.

Although the ideas are good, I don't see any breakthrough there. The industry still has its disadvantages because they still rely on overly expensive and ineffective batteries (for the job), although I don't deny that the cars do look good (not the truck though).

And Tesla is not SpaceX. And Tesla is not only Elon.
6931  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: May 13, 2021, 05:08:21 PM
I doubt that they (seeming policies led by Saylor) are giving too many shits about whether BTC prices are dipping or not when they buy their monthly-ish installations of BTC (and I doubt that they are even necessarily waiting for the month to play out in the event that they were to get extra cashflows during the month, we likely can appreciate where they might be putting that extra cashflow and just reporting it on a monthly basis or whatever).

I would be surprised if they wouldn't, at least a little. And I remember that this is not the first such announcement coming out just after a dip. I mean that it would be stupid to not try to save millions of $ here and there. On the other hand, they may just DCA on a different scale.

But yeah, fillippone is right and this time the price is from before the dip...
6932  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: May 13, 2021, 01:02:22 PM
MicroStrategy Buys Tranche #12:

As usual, great move from their side. It was kind of expected though, they've got specialized lately to buy the dip.
6933  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Taxe ANAF pentru Binance Visa Card? on: May 13, 2021, 12:27:39 PM

In cazul asta clar ispaseste muuuuult prea mult.

Spusa in mare, povestea e asa

Are sens pentru chestii super nasoale, crime...

Trist... Imi pare rau...
6934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [May 2021] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: May 13, 2021, 10:03:22 AM
Electrum's "ETA" recommendation is currently 200+ sat/byte for a next-block confirmation and 83 sat/byte to confirm within 25 blocks. That's rediculous, there's no need to waste this much money on fees. Don't use Electrum's ETA recommendation! Considering how popular Electrum is, it makes me wonder how much money people waste because of this.
Electrum's "Mempool" recommendation looks much better: for anything from 10 to 0.5 MB from the tip, it recommends 8 sat/byte. That's useful! Use Electrum's Mempool recommendation!

I think that you've chosen a dangerous moment for this recommendation. The difficulty has just jumped + 21.53 %, hence there will be quite a slow down in blocks.
We're back from ~8.3 minutes to ~10 minutes and I expect that get pretty soon visible in the fees.
6935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elom Musk is farting, the whole crypto suffocates! Is Elon working with SEC? on: May 13, 2021, 08:36:56 AM
The thing is, Musk was already fined for market manipulation. But I think he will not be charged with anything now because his statements affect the crypto world.

Actually his statement did affect stocks, Tesla's stocks:

Also, some Bitcoiners did cancel their orders for Tesla cars and announced it loudly, in response for this mess.
6936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla destroys bitcoin :-[ on: May 13, 2021, 08:03:48 AM
There, I fixed it back for you Tongue

 Grin Grin Grin

I'm sure they knew all this already, which means they have other reasons for saying this now. It could very well be they're buying back the Bitcoins they sold last quarter, and need a price drop for it.

Exactly. They do play some dirty game to take advantage of the already dropping price, somewhat in sync with the stocks.
The story is so weak it cannot be another reason. (Edit: For example also Tesla cars run on electricity i.e. coal, by the same logic...)

All the stocks have been falling anyway and all this tweet/story makes sense only as a short-term move imho.
6937  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Taxe ANAF pentru Binance Visa Card? on: May 13, 2021, 07:57:42 AM

autoritatile cauta dreptate facand nedreptate?

6938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Doge is to hold should not be trading on: May 13, 2021, 07:10:21 AM
I strongly believe Doge will be a sustainable incremental coin, with the help of Tesla. And I believe in the management of Elon Musk, the number 1 billionaire in the world. Do you guys agree with me that Doge is the world's largest community-owned coin. And the US and EU communities are very fond of Doge

You can see what has happened to Bitcoin. That may happen at any time to Dogecoin too.
Also Dogecoin has a huge tail emission, making it a rather poor long time investment - the demand for it has to rise continuously to keep the price, unlike Bitcoin where constant demand is fine.
However, DYOR and invest wisely. And try to discuss altcoins .. in the altcoins board  Wink
6939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla no longer accepts Bitcoin payments on: May 13, 2021, 07:03:38 AM
1. Stocks were falling and I strongly believe that they had more effect on the price that this tweet.
2. I do think that Tesla is playing pump and dump games on the market. With that amount of money they can earn better than attempting to build cars.
3. Yet again Elon farted and all the Bitcoin community talks about it. When will this mindless behavior stop?
6940  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Taxe ANAF pentru Binance Visa Card? on: May 13, 2021, 06:42:05 AM
