Just got a cube Smiley  The rate goes from a quick 30-something down a few gh/s every minute until it gets to 0.  Argh.  Already reseated boards, tightened heatsinks.  No difference.  Argh.  Now I am stuck in newbie-jail.

Hmm.. It seems there is a bad board in the cube bringing everything down.  In fact when I pulled the board out it has an extra piece of metal (not wire, and it doesn't look like solder) attached from one of the surface mount capacitors to one of the asic chips - and bridging many of its pins.  None of the other boards have this.  I can't PM the reseller while in newbie jail ... Agrh again.

Anyone see this before?

Who is the seller? I'll PM them for you and ask them to respond to you here.

You don't need to be logged in for 4 hours anymore, just has to have been 4 hours since your first post. You guys should try reading the stickied readme instead of going by what another newbie told you. Reading a little upfront will save you a lot of time and hassle in the future in many ways.

When did that change BadBear? You mean to tell me I went through all the trouble of making this thread and posting multiple times for nothing! Bastards! Stop changing shit around and maybe we'll fucking know what the rules are.

I'm going to test it and make 50 accounts with one post and try them again tomorrow. You're making account sales so easy.

On the contrary, it's making account sales worthless, who's going to bother buying a newbie account when it's so easy?

Yeah, I know. I was just pissed at you so I said that. I've had a beer so I'm much better now.  Grin

Is it 4 hours logged in time, or 4 hours real life time from your first post? Cause if it's 4 hours from your first post, it's not working.

It's 4 hours of active time. Refreshing pages, clicking between pages and searching for info make the clock tick forward. Go read a sticky and look at your time when you start and finish. You will see a difference.

So all my browsing the forums without registering for past month or so is not counting.  Undecided

Of course not. You need to be logged in for it to count.

So how many people here have had sex with a farm animal. Dogs, cats and fat girls don't count because that's too common.

Post anything you want to here to bring up your post count and waste time. Nothing is off topic. If you need to be in prison may as well make it fun.

Keep refreshing the page and pay attention to the line up there  Roll Eyes that lists your "Total Time Logged In:

You need that to go over 4 hours and have posted enough to get into the other parts of the forum.

Whitelisting works too. If you have a good idea to present you can request to be whitelisted and gain immediate access to the forum.

Also, this is not an altcoin forum! Don't expect to be well received if you go into any part of the forum other than HERE and start discussing altcoinz.

Here's another trick
Code:
[URL=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0][color=blue][b][u]HERE[/u][/b][/color][/URL]

if you want to complete a thought without having an ugly link in the middle of your sentence try replacing the link (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0) and word (HERE) above and paste it into your sentence. It makes for an easier read.

I know that's popular to do at other forums. But don't just +1 here because it pisses off the wet pants mods. Better to call somebody a fucker and stay on topic than to +1. Just a friendly word of advice.  Grin

Personaly i dont get this attitude, but ok, your forum , your rules.

Regards.

It cuts down on the need for housekeeping. Bots and fuckheads troll forums constantly. Mods have to work harder to delete those posts.

I lay face down in this pillow every night.

this is another trick that helps people read posts easier and cut down on the clutter when viewing a thread.

When you post an image link using "[img]http://image link[/img"] try adjusting the size by using "[img width=300]http://image link[/img"]. Images that are too large take up too much space and the conversation gets lost among the giant images.

Okay, here it goes...

Just killin' time here (or logging it  Huh)

BTW, how's time tracked here, I've logged in more than 4 hours ago, and the total logged time shows 1 hour and 2 minutes. Am I missing something?

Being just logged in doesn't count. Read the OP. You need to keep refreshing the page for it to be counted. Sitting with a browser window open doesn't count.
6932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper wallet without printing (Writing it down by hand) on: January 09, 2014, 05:39:23 PM
Hi, I'm looking to store bitcoins securely for the long term (hoping they'll one day be worth $5000 haha)

Please tell me if this is a secure way:

boot from Ubuntu Live CD ---> Bitaddress.org ---> Disconnect from internet ---> Generate address & private key (how do these two get input into the bitcoin system if I am disconnected from the internet?)---> Write these two down with hand on paper ---> Shutdown.

Also, when using the Brain Wallet function, I should type in something ridiculously long and complicated and I won't need to remember the passphrase nor write it down as long as I have the private key correct?

I use a similar method. I use Puppy to store a key to a USB stick and dupe it several times. If you're encrypting the key you will need the passphrase. For an effective brain wallet try using firstbits.com. All you need to remember is the first 6-8 characters.

My favorite way is one I developed myself. I store the key in my phone and backed up to my computer as a collection of contacts in my contact list. I have 50 contacts stored with fake email addresses where the beginning of the email is a part of the key. I memorize the first four characters and store the remainder as a sequence in the list of contacts that only I know.

1JwS memorized

With Johns contact email Subhm@aol.com
And Janet's email g6iPtR@gmail.com
And Ted's email jtyqhUY@live.com

And so on. Only I know which emails go together and in what order. Just picking the correct sequence of 6 numbers considering one of the emails could be used twice your chance of picking the correct order would be 1 in 175,711,536 and you still wouldn't have the first 4.

It's a good idea considering the niche of the idea, but if someone were to go after you in particular, you've already given someones brute-force mechanism a pretty good start.

True, if I gave you the correct number of first bits and I didn't reverse the sequence of characters in one of the email addresses etc. The permutations of this combination are endless. It's easy to make this your own. The best part is you don't need to rely on anyone or any program and always have your key with you.
6933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DPR's Bitcoin Stash future sell off by the gov't panic ensues .. on: January 09, 2014, 12:15:53 AM
Proudhon got banned? I was wondering what all the panic posts were about. You pissed Proudhon?
No just quiet for a while.. I thought.. from his activity history it seems I just missed it..  Roll Eyes

Oh, I thought because you said "keep the bans flowing" you were talking about him getting banned. I haven't seen him post in a while either and then he starts spreading a China joke thread around about how stupid people are by falling for the China news and moving the market.

Just don't get too excited. The higher the climb the harder the fall.

I don't think so. If the argentine people ever sink their teeth into Bitcoin it will become so entrenched that a nuclear bomb couldn't remove it. I recently visited Buenos Aires and Córdoba. If you can get them to talk about it, the people will tell you that they don't care much about what the government tells them to do.  Wink
People of the revolution Smiley Good to know there are still people who hate being governed. I'm not afraid of them being forced out of BTC but rather of the rest of the world pumping the price in hope and facing a mediocre interest in Argentina, that would eventually bring the price back down.

I hear you. I don't think there's enough money in the hands of the people in Argentina that would need Bitcoin to move the market much in either direction. World perception might hipe it some but really the wealthy are not going to bypass capital controls for fear of reprisals and losing their wealth. What's good for us would be a loyal user base supporting the network that would be difficult to remove.

6937  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 08, 2014, 10:18:00 PM

Is doesn't seem like a smart move to take an unsecured bet with someone that you don't believe will pay. If you lost you would have to pay or be labeled a scammer. He has everything to win and nothing to lose. The most you can hope to do is not lose.

I understand what you are saying but in principle for me:

1. If I make a bet with someone I honour it... not because they need the money but because I keep my word or lose my reputation. An escrow is fine but doesn't change this.

2. Bitcoin was not going so low in so short a time. No question. That's why I took the bet. That's why 8 or so others jumped in also! And if China had announced banning Bitcoin an hour after the bet then bad luck for me.

Contrary to what you say TheCoinBull will lose his reputation if he doesn't pay. That's his choice to make. I'll leave that up to him.

No, I get it. You felt it was a no brainer bet. The payoff for you is watching him destroy his rep. I guess that does have, at least, a sadistic value. Schadenfreude lovers unite! lol

6939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the foundation doing for FBI to help bitcoin markets? on: January 08, 2014, 09:44:20 PM
If the USG saves those BTC for a few years maybe they could use it to pay down the debt.

That would require long term planning that is difficult for government officials to do. The General Schedule pay grades are more like time clock punchers that worry more about their benefits than doing their jobs. Elected officials can only see forward to the election. If they had a real grasp of future economics the 2008 recession would have had a very different outcome. Never make a plan today for what you can bail out tomorrow.
6940  Economy / Speculation / Re: Argentina ready to drive the next Bitcoin price explosion - Beat China ? on: January 08, 2014, 09:33:46 PM
Argentina will be the real savior that everyone wanted China to be. They should love Bitcoin and desperately need it. Argentina is suffering from capital flight and is having a difficult time seducing business to stay in the country. Capital controls are keeping its citizens from sending money out of the country where it will have greater buying power. Bitcoin is designed to fix that situation and will allow citizens to bypass the law. Just under 30% of its citizens live below the poverty line and don't have access to a bank account. 3-4% of the people live on less than US $2 per person per day. Argentina needs Bitcoin as much as Bitcoin needs Argentina. They're made for each other.
