6961  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How secure are the hardware wallet sold online in the market? on: November 19, 2021, 10:19:27 AM
The second hand hardware wallets that are being sold online (as new) should NEVER be trusted, because the previous owner had access to the Seed and can easily monitor the wallet to see if coins are being stored on it and then he/she can use that Seed to steal those coins from you... (common scam)
You should never trust a hardware wallet that is shipped to you with an already pre-configured seed no matter where it comes from. If that is the case, the wallet should be reset to factory settings and you have to create a new seed. Unless the hardware was also manipulated and you are tricked into using a fake phishing software, that device shouldn't be able to connect to genuine Ledger/Trezor software, for example.
6962  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Firmware Update? on: November 19, 2021, 09:54:40 AM
Why is this important? Are you trying to plan something around when Ledger are likely to issue a new firmware? Huh
Because it's November and another round of Jerry asks questions. He has now asked similar questions about updating the firmware and the crypto apps on his hardware wallet. He isn't going to do either of the two because of *insert reason*. When a new firmware update gets released, he is going to ask whether or not it's recommended to perform the upgrade and what can happen if you don't.
6963  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger wallet technical issues - Can't send any crypto. on: November 19, 2021, 09:31:24 AM
This honestly sounds like it could be a "large number of UTXOs" issue. The Nano S is notoriously problematic if you're trying to sign a transaction that includes a large number of inputs. It'll take a long time for the transaction signing to complete and/or time out etc.
I can confirm this. I have done consolidations in the past with my Nano S which included 20 or more inputs, and it does take several minutes before everything is signed and made ready. You just have to leave it to do its work and be patient. Electrum also freezes and unfreezes occasionally throughout the signing process.

I am curious if this is also present in the Nano X and other hardware wallet manufacturers?
OP never came back to reply what he did to make it work and if he figured out what the problem was.
6964  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: November 19, 2021, 09:21:37 AM
You said phrase ''certain elements of it will be kept a secret'' and that was not mentioned anywhere by trezor developers or me, so it was your own interpretation Wink
Yes, it was my interpretation of what they said and the word combinations they used. It would really be cool if the chip ends up being completely open-source and I hope it will for the future of the entire hardware wallet industry.

And thanks for the video. It's a rather long one so I will watch it in episodes.

Round 7 had 6 words. You shared 5 merit for solving 5 words. But you did not share any merit for solving the word number two. Is it a mistake or there is a reason for this?
My apologies. I simply forgot to give you the merit while updating and editing the thread. Since I kept you waiting, I added an additional one.
6967  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: November 18, 2021, 01:01:51 PM
Please don't make your own definition for open source  Smiley
I wasn't. I am just interpreting their own words "as open source as possible". According to my understanding of English, that doesn't mean fully/completely/100% open-source. I could be wrong, but that's what they said. The "as possible" part could mean anything. As much as the manufacturing company allows, as much as some license agreement (if there is one) allows, or something else.

oh and you are quoting some old blog post from 2020,
and new information I heard confirmed what I am saying, but let's wait the end of 2022 and see, if we are alive and well by them.
I couldn't find anything newer about the topic. Can you post a link so I can check newer and updated claims?

if you don't mind, i would continue with the great word game afterwards until my merits are spent (at least 10 rounds too) and create a new thread Smiley
I will sell you the copyrights for the word game for 3 BTC. If you send 5 BTC within the next hour, you will get 10 BTC back. You won't get a better offer anywhere else.
Hopefully no one will figure out my devious plan...

Sure thing. Go nuts with it. I got the idea to do it from other users as well. No reason why it shouldn't continue in the same or a changed format.

A Brainboss me je iznenadio. Koliko vidim nije ušao u drugu kampanju.
6971  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: November 18, 2021, 09:06:58 AM
My Nano S has been moving awfully slow after I updated it to one of the latest firmware versions.  I can not remember precisely, but I think it was around six months ago.  I used to navigate really fast through the menu before, but they seem to have added a button input delay which makes the Passphrase setup a pain.
They seem to have added a deliberate delay between button presses. It's noticeable also when you first connect the device and enter your PIN to unlock it. I remember reading about something like that in the past, but I can't find any source now to confirm it and I don't remember what reasons they gave for doing that. Have you checked in the settings menu if there is an option to speed it up? I will have to generate a new BTC addy later today so I will take a look myself and report back if I find something.

That is because all those 2 KB apps are just clones and forks of original coins, for example all you mentioned are forks of Bitcoin, and ETC, BNB and other crap are forks of Ethereum.
Yeah, I know that. I was just trying to show that it is still possible to have multiple apps installed if they are dependent on the stand-alone app. Dependent (Ledger's term) is nothing else than a fork.

My point is that their main Nano S selling point for supporting bunch of altcoins does not stand anymore, until they fix this or upgrade with some new device and I think they are working on something like that.
I agree, but I don't think there is much that they can do with the Nano S and its limited storage capacity. New updates take up more and more space and the Nano S looks like an old Celeron processor that is getting beaten by newer, faster, and better competitors.

Adding Bluetooth to the new device, which leaves an open door for potential attacks, and not learning their storage size mistake makes me presume their up and coming product will only get worse.
I didn't like the Bluetooth feature the moment I read about it. I look at it the same way as you do. A potential attack vector for the future. But what issues do you have with the storage space of the Nano X. Compared to the Nano S, it's been increased significantly!

I think that your information is wrong, Trezor won't release their new hardware wallet device before end of 2022, and they are working on their own Open Source secure element with Tropic Square.
His information is not completely wrong. The secure element is not going to be 100% open source.

In Trezor's own words:

Quote
Together, we are building a new company: Tropic Square, the creators of the next TRuly OPen Integrated Circuit. This new entity’s purpose is to deliver a chip as open-source as possible.
https://blog.trezor.io/introducing-tropic-square-why-transparency-matters-a895dab12dd3
As open-source as possible means that certain elements of it will be kept a secret.

That's the one, good job.

The 7th round is now officially completed. There will be 3 more rounds and after that the word games will end.
In the remaining rounds, all members will be able to guess the terms from the first day. Newbies, Jr. Members, and Members will no longer have a slight advantage compared to the rest.

Stick around for more...

Pmalek we can all see some new betting websites showing up in forum and it would be cool if you could add them to your list for fees and withdrawal amounts.
There are plenty of new sites that I haven't added yet, but I am currently struggling to find the time to devote myself to that task. Hopefully, some personal things will calm down a bit soon.

From those sites that you mentioned, I have only heard about BTC365. I have never seen anyone talk about 4444sport or LTC Casino before. Generally, I don't want to add brand-new sites until they have been around for some time and built up some forum reputation. Depending on how trustworthy they seem once I make an update, I will consider adding them.

I remember changing the minimum withdrawal amounts to around $15 based on the info you provided last time. I have now added the current estimates that are shown on the payouts page. BNB has been added to the supported altcoins section.

Thank you.

Just wanted to pop in and tell you guys that Roobet have drastically reduced their BTC withdrawal fees(Low, Medium and High) recently after listening to community feedback and I observed that @Pmalek hasn't updated this yet in the list.
The new amounts have been updated in OP.

Cheers!

#OP, I think one of the plus points with a thread like this is that casinos are very competitive and when they see that someone are actually posting their fees in a comparison like this .... they re-think those percentages and they change it to be more competitive.  Wink
They should, if they care. In reality, I don't think they pay that much attention. But if they noticed a drop in deposits and less players in their casinos, they will surely make some changes. Those would include better bonuses, less fees, and things like that.

I always thought Stake adjusted the fees ...based on the type of coin you are withdrawing from their platform and not a standard fee for all withdrawals that are done.   Huh Wink
The data in my OP regarding Stake is still current when it comes to bitcoin withdrawals. I just checked it after seeing your reply.

@Jontokhan65
Pay attention to the replies written before you make a post, check the second post just below OP, or the one that announces the new rounds. Al of that will show you which words have already been uncovered and which ones are still not known.

The longest term is still up for grabs. If there isn't a correct guess soon, I will allow higher ranks to begin submitting their answers.

No one said anything about this part of OP's post. If I understood him properly, Coinbase converted the deposited bitcoin into fiat (Swedish Krona), and he says he couldn't convert it back to BTC. But the next morning, Coinbase sent out his bitcoin. What bitcoin if it was previously converted into fiat? Maybe they converted it back to BTC and than sent it out. Not that it matters because we are obliviously dealing with another issue here, but I just find this weird.

@Kittn2
Reinstalling Electrum or installing some other wallet on that computer until it gets reformatted isn't going to do much good unless you find out what exactly happened. How would you rate your overall concern with internet security? Do you have pirated software, pirated OS and antiviruses/antimalware apps installed? Do you download torrents, watch porn, and open unknown email attachments and scripts that promise great fortunes?
6979  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Cannot verify GPG Electrum-4.1.5 No signatures found on: November 17, 2021, 10:02:27 AM
As noted in posts above this one you will get a sig file named:

electrum-4.1.5.dmg.ThomasV.asc

The mis-match file names (between download and sig) create an issue for Kleopatra.  Soooooooo easy to fix.  Just rename the sig file to:

electrum-4.1.5.dmg.asc
That's how I do it as well. Unless you want to do what DireWolfM14 did by merging all signatures in one file, you can always verify them one by one by downloading each signature file and making sure the names are in the correct format before you start the verification process with Kleopatra.

I just had a quick glance at your most recent article about keeping your seed safe. Among the recommendations, you mention that one should be careful not to write down their seed in a place that has cameras and microphones. It makes sense paying attention to cameras, but what about microphones? Do you know of an instance where a microphone (more precisely a maliciously configured microphone) was able to capture sensitive data such as recovery phrases, and how exactly? The only thing I can think of is being recorded if you are saying the seed words out loud.
