I read the article is not Canada but the British Troops.

Well to be technical it was what would become Canada, when they were still a British Colony.
Like the Americans were a few decades before that date.
6962  Other / Off-topic / Re: Canada invades the United States! on: August 25, 2014, 07:59:53 AM
200 years ago today, Canada entered Washington DC and burnt down the White House.

Hope you yanks learned your lesson.   Cheesy

http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/british-troops-set-fire-to-the-white-house

And we do not regret it that house was damn ugly ^_^
Good old history lessons
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/remembering-when-white-house-was-burning-president-was-hiding-and-u-was-close-to-collapse/

Hard to belive its a two century anniversary, a lot of things have changed since back then its like were living in a science fiction world compared to only two centuries in the past.
6963  Economy / Services / Re: Are you an angry bastard - Get $$ to be a Troll on: August 25, 2014, 07:56:59 AM
Wait this type of service actually existed
Today I learned that there was a site that recruited trolls for real who knew.
I thought it was just in my imagination.
I'm not looking for a troll for hire at this time but I might keep this place noted as a convenient note Smiley
6964  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: August 25, 2014, 07:53:16 AM
It is a pity i found out about this just now, i have been having PD signature for the last 8 month but never applied to get paid for it... Hopefully there will be enrollment again in the future.

Well it is a minimum of 50 posts a month so you would have had a damn long wait to claim a payment  Wink

Do posts in the section off topic still count btw?

They do as long as you don't live in off-topic
Stunna meant off topic posts. Not the section in particular.
6965  Other / Off-topic / Re: Places you want to travel to before you die on: August 25, 2014, 07:51:00 AM
I guess I want to see all the places in the world before I die
But of the places I have been would love to see Japan again perhaps tour of Asia
So many places its kind of hard to pick one but at this time no particular nation stands out far ahead of any others.
6966  Economy / Speculation / Re: ready for $400 again? on: August 25, 2014, 07:47:51 AM
Back up to $510 now, it'll go up to $550 and drop around the $450-$500 mark.
Why?

because $5xx is just a dead cat bounce! a fake recover!
[/quote

It could be how long is a typical bounce anyways
That said if the price doesn't dip downward again then it could also be a support level.
6967  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Mission to Rescue Hostages in Syria Failed on: August 25, 2014, 07:38:36 AM
Why didn't Obama negotiate for the release of the journalists when he released FIVE terrorists in exchange for ONE deserter?  Five for five would have been a better deal.

When did this happen?

The US does not negotiate with terrorists last time I checked.

They did back in May and he was a deserter according to the Americans, they did it so they could claim they left no soldier behind in other words when its convenient for them.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/taliban-held-us-soldier-released-in-exchange-for-afghan-detainees/2014/05/31/8b764dac-e8db-11e3-a86b-362fd5443d19_story.html

Taliban-held U.S. soldier released in exchange for Afghan detainees

Taliban fighters released the sole remaining American military hostage Saturday morning to a team of U.S. troops in eastern Afghanistan, who quickly hustled him onto a helicopter. Once airborne, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl scribbled the letters “SF?” on a paper plate, seeking confirmation that he was with Special Operations forces.

“Yes!” one of the troops hollered back above the din of the aircraft’s blades, according to a defense official who described Bergdahl’s first moments of freedom. “We’ve been looking for you for a long time.”

Bergdahl, 28, who had been held captive nearly five years, broke down in tears.

His release was secured after the Obama administration, working through Qatari government intermediaries, agreed to free five high-profile Afghan inmates held by the U.S. military in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The influential commanders, including the former head of the Taliban’s army, were loaded onto a U.S. military aircraft bound for Qatar after U.S. officials got confirmation that Bergdahl had been freed.

Bergdahl’s “safety and health were both in jeopardy,” and officials had to act quickly to obtain his release, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
6968  Economy / Economics / Re: How do no fee exchanges make money on: August 25, 2014, 07:36:46 AM
Build up a user base and then run away with everyone's coins.

Sounds about right, the other way is sponsorships and advertising but that usually comes when a service has a large dedicated userbase or some venture capital funding to back them up in order to attract new users.
That said its always best to be cautious.
6969  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: August 25, 2014, 07:34:26 AM
More ebola news, still spreading I wonder how long until the initial stages of transmission end.
Two new cases of Ebola reported in Democratic Republic of Congo
http://www.vox.com/2014/8/24/6063027/ebola-virus-found-in-the-democratic-republic-of-the-congo

The Ebola outbreak has been confined to West Africa: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Guinea. Now a fifth country — the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa — appears to be battling the virus.

The DRC health minister, Dr. Felix Kabange Numbi, says two people have just died from Ebola during a deadly hemorrhagic fever outbreak in a remote, northwestern region of the country. According to reports, there were 13 deaths in total.

Numbi says the outbreak in his country has "nothing to do with the one in West Africa," according to the Associated Press. But the World Health Organization says it is waiting to confirm the DRC's findings. In its own labs, it will test to find out which of the five strains of the Ebola virus afflicted the Congolese and whether they match the strain circulating in West Africa, known as Zaire ebolavirus.

At least it still looks containable.
6970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM Fees on: August 25, 2014, 07:32:05 AM
I think the right fee is between 0.2 and 0.5%, with a minimum of 1$

The question though is how to make a business from that after compliance costs, and renting the space in a building.
Although a flat fiat rate fee might be convenient if enough people are willing to use the machine
But for now until scale gets there I think 3 to 5% will be more closer to the real fee.
6971  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE - 1,150 TH/S HASH RATE (1GH/S per Unit) on: August 25, 2014, 07:22:57 AM
Dear Investors,

We've been receiving quite a few questions regarding whether or not we will be investing in new hardware.  The answer is hell no!  That would require that we give a f!@#  We gave you people a choice and you made it now quit complainin and take these ever decreasing dividends and hold onto them for dear life.  Bitcoin ever hits the $10-12K mark you must might break even after all.  Now let's turn those frown's upside down people because we here at CryptX will continue to monitor the bitcoin mining 'situation' closely!

Sounds about right.
That PETA vote a while ago to not add gear to their arsenal meant that it would be an effective mining bond
Which means that it always loses values whenever difficulty rises.
6972  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Julian Assange Announces Plan to Leave Ecuadorian Embassy 'Soon' on: August 25, 2014, 07:18:36 AM
I don't understand why he announces he's about to move. He should have left without a fuss, now there will be people looking for him.

I am also interested why they would make a press announcement
Perhaps he made a plea deal but it is worth watching how this turns out.

Also be it as it may, he may be better off in Russia if he can sneak his way over there.
6973  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin still 300% of the Price 1 Year ago. on: August 25, 2014, 07:12:44 AM

The price peaked at around $1200 seven to eight months ago. Winter is already here.

Yes, and it is a long winter with the nuclear fallout of the collapse of Mtgox and silkroad
Perhaps somewhat effected by the rise of altcoins as well.
That said I hope for a bitcoin spring in the price sooner than later since Bitcoin is getting more adoption and a stronger position and its a significant amount compared to eight months ago.
6974  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the USA pay their debts, if ever? on: August 25, 2014, 07:09:24 AM
When will the USA pay their debts, if ever?

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

You know that is actually an excellent question

I don't expect the USA to actually end up with a debt surplus for centuries to say the least assuming that their fiat based monetary system lasts that long, rather I expect the USA currency to collapse severely devalue and lose purchasing power but not collapse or for their debt to be erased one way or another by occupations/wars with other countries lol.

(You know that whole I owed the previous government 1 dollar but decided to occupy it instead and clean my debt books since I don't recognize the new government lol)
6975  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-25] Bitcoin virtual currency can be used to pay for coffee, beer and fa on: August 25, 2014, 06:52:12 AM
Has anyone thought of creating a bitcoin debit card?

Yes. But as it turned out it was a scam.  Roll Eyes

There were a few good ones cavirtex has one and Xapos seems to be ok for now
Which one are you referring to.
6976  Economy / Gambling / Re: Are you a gambler? STAY AWAY FROM COINBASE! on: August 25, 2014, 06:50:01 AM
Sounds like a very smart move alani
I don't use coinbase but I would seriously consider my alternatives given that clause in their contract.
6977  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-25] Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: August 25, 2014, 06:43:50 AM
Saw this in Bitcoin discussion as well

A fractional reserve will not work in bitcoin, if a company wants to operate a fractional reserve they can easily due it with the fees they generate and then keep the bitcoins to become their reserve.
A 1% Fee on 1 BTC moved 100 times is a 1 BTC reserve scaled up with enough users and they can easily cover their exchanges position given time.

If a bank screws up, the argument maintains, it should face the consequences alone, rather than letting all economy participants across the system to share the pain in the form of debased per unit currency value.

Correct, we don't need Bailouts.
6978  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-25] Bitcoin virtual currency can be used to pay for coffee, beer and fa on: August 25, 2014, 06:39:44 AM
That's sweet we might get a few more female adopters
Because you can now use bitcoin to buy facials, I guess that works for guys to but like shoes there are certain merchant products that are more demographically targeted.

Also woot female Bitcoin users ^^

I have a feeling that next year these numbers will fee micro but thanks for sharing.

BIG NUMBERS

$US509 - the current value of a bitcoin

$US2000 - average worth of a bitcoin transaction worldwide

70,000 - the number of daily bitcoin transactions

$US250 million - the worth of daily bitcoin transactions

6979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm dissapointed about using bitcoin as a currency, it really should improve on: August 25, 2014, 06:35:30 AM
There will always be good and bad actors in this and any other economy. The bad ones will be weeded out by competition and by consumers that vote with their coins.

Yep some of them will fall, that said I was a bit surprised that the OP had a bar that accepts Bitcoin.
Although I see his point about the rate at least matching the fiat rate.
6980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: August 25, 2014, 06:29:42 AM
People who want banks should just use cash.

A central bank is not needed in Bitcoin
Services that can convert bitcoin to local currencies and relationships will work.

As for reserve ratios fees will be greater in the long run and those will do the same work as fractional banking.
Simply put a 1% fee traded a hundred times will follow the same multiplier effect that a fractional reserve uses by utilizing its own profit margin and keeping it in Bitcoin the reserve ratio of the bank will artificially grow to cover the positions they have in the exchange.

As a result volume and trading will in time provide their own form of fractional reserve banking but actually be based on real assets.
