6961  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbit shutdown by South Korea authorities on: August 28, 2020, 11:47:12 PM
What is it with the South Korean market and incompetence? You'd think they would've got rolling with impressive techno sheen but it seems to have been a chaotic improvisation from the start and it's continuing.

I'll bet the majority of places outside the top bunch are doing the exact same thing, and the top bunch did it themselves too in the early days.

Perhaps they learn for their Chinese counterpart exchanges,  Smiley. But it's quite surprising though coming from South Korea wherein there are tougher regulations.

@logfiles - perhaps it's lost in translation, the reference that I put is in Japanese and I translated it to English using Google Translate.
6962  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: When did Coinbase start sending 1099-K forms to customers? on: August 28, 2020, 11:18:47 PM
I think my question is pretty much moot nowadays that IRS seems to just find out who owns crypto anyway.

Yes, but you have to file it anyways, here is the draft for 2020, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f1040--dft.pdf. Maybe you can take a look at it and prepare for the information that is needed if IRS is going to make this official.
6963  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Oscar De La Hoya vs Amir Khan? on: August 28, 2020, 10:49:15 PM
Based on the skills and experience De La Hoya is indeed above its opponent but the ring has its four side and anything can happen though the odds is high for De La Hoya. Where can I place my bet for this fight so I can also enjoy watching the game? Anyway, I will also go for De La Hoya and hoping nothing serious can happen to him because of his age.

This match-up is just pure speculation and it's only Amir Khan who is calling Dela Hoya to fight him. IMO, this match won't push through so there will be betting odds for this one. Dela Hoya said he want a competitive fight, Sergio Martinez would be a good opponent for him.

So with that statement, does it mean he can't fight Amir Khan because the fighter is younger and active, while  Sergio Martinez  is 45 years old so he can give a toe to toe fight?

What i mean is that there is no contract yet for this match-up, no schedule or whatsoever. For now people are just speculating on who will win if they were to fight but if ever this would push through i will have Amir Khan as the favorite because he is much younger than Oscar and active.  He may have a fragile chin but Oscar's power is not like when he was young and he will have problem chasing Khan as the latter is more mobile than him. Just my opinion though but i would put my money in Khan if this would push through.

Exactly, nothing is finalised yet so everything is base on speculation. For me I would like to see:

(a) what weight they are going to fight? Oscar can't go and drain himself again to 147 lbs, it should be like 154 lbs at least. Can Amir Khan handle that weight though? Or it is going to be in a catchweight

(b) who will train Oscar? Will Nacho or Floyd Sr or even Roach?

6965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / RenVM, supposedly decentralised but control 9000 BTC worth of funds on: August 28, 2020, 09:55:00 PM
And what is the upshot? well they say that they are decentralised but upon close inspection, all the funds are being held by the project itself, 9000 BTC to be exact and this is very dangerous and they can collude and stole the whole amount as they control all the nodes right now.

6966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US file a lawsuit to recover funds from a hack by North Korea on: August 28, 2020, 09:32:15 PM
Even if they file a lawsuit there is no possibility of recovering the hacked funds, because it is in North Korea. But atleast these things are now getting the attention from government which may become a reason for more regulations in crypto currencies on several countries.

If you read the documents, it didn't mentioned that the hacked funds are in North Korean hands, in fact, they

(1) identified a US email based
(2) when cyber threat actors tries to convert the stolen funds (a transaction ID beginning with 6918d31f), the exchange didn't proceed, perhaps the coins has been trailed and on the blacklist of exchange already
(3) they move to other exchange, but since it is blacklisted already, been flagged so no cash out happened.

Which means that the funds are sitting to those exchange right now and the US authorities did file this lawsuit to claim those and give it back to the right owners. And you have to understand that this case is not against North Korean hackers directly, but "in rem" - meaning lawsuit on the property itself, in this case the stolen cryptocurrency.

@tomahawk9 - yes, even the exchange are not being mentioned, but as crypto enthusiast, and who have been following North Korean modus, I'm sure that it is indeed Monero here being used for crypto jacking.
6967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jeff Horn vs. Tim Tszyu on: August 27, 2020, 11:35:41 PM
Jeff Horn was totally dominated in this fight obviously he cannot keep up with Tszyu he keeps on holding I'm surprised that the corner is ok with Horn not continuing, Horn has the most stubborn corners I remember in his fight against Crawford he was knockdown punished and outboxed and yet his corner complain of early stoppage, finally they showed concerned on their fighter, better advice Horn to retire and just continue his teaching profession, he is still young and can still accomplish many things in some area of his interests.

Because it was really a mismatch, it was good on paper, but when we did see the fight, Horn looks amateurish inside the ring and I would agree with what Fenech said that Glenn Rushton - Horn's training did nothing to advance Horn career after his shocking win agains Pacquaio and it was really Horn attitude and heart that made him win the game.

Quote
The second strangest sight involving Rushton came on Wednesday night when Main Event cameras showed him encouraging Horn to continue his fight with Tim Tszyu in Townsville when the rest of his corner, and those watching at home, thought that was the last thing he should do.

You could tell after one round that Tszyu, 25, had Horn's measure. That Horn, 32, had bitten off one fight too many. The fight could've been stopped numerous times after he twice tumbled before being dropped in the third.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/boxing/the-disgraceful-actions-of-jeff-horn-s-trainer-glenn-rushton-20200827-p55pu6.html

And now Australian media are after Rushton for trying to push him to continue when the rest of the team are thinking of stopping the fight. He should be the one to make the decision to stop it because clearly his boy is outclassed by Tim Tszyu.
6968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Legal Matter on: August 27, 2020, 11:07:31 PM
Let me list 5 countries where the Online Gambling is legal and flourishing :

Japan

Now the question is : Why should it be legal?
-Better handling of scammers
-Protection for people
-It does bring good revenues for the government
-healthy restrictions regarding age and addictions

Now the people are going to do it anyways they cannot control that part , what they can do is discuss the terms and conditions and create a safe environment.

What do you guys think?
Should the government allow it more openly?

I think @avikz has put a good discussion about it.

6969  Economy / Economics / Re: Everything you wanted to know about BTC futures but were afraid to ask! on: August 27, 2020, 08:45:22 PM
And it seems that it has a negative effect on the price of BTC as the schedule options are going to expire today (close to 58 BTC). And yeah, it's really interesting to see Deribit really doing good.

6970  Economy / Exchanges / Coinbit shutdown by South Korea authorities on: August 27, 2020, 08:19:23 PM
Coinbit, the third largest South Korean exchanges, has been shutdown following allegations that it is faking trade volumes and manipulation.

Quote
On the 26th, the police seized Coinbit, a large domestic cryptocurrency exchange, on suspicion of fraud. Coinbit is the third largest exchange in Korea after Bithumb (411,4800) and Upbit (3667,000) with an average number of visitors of 2.52,000 in the last three months (May-July).

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Department confiscated and searched several places, including the headquarters office of Coinbit in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The police investigated the charges of inflating the trading volume and manipulating the market price by'bicycle transaction' (an act of buying and selling coins between accounts inside the exchange) through multiple'ghost accounts' by Coinbit's beneficial owner, Chairman Choi Mo (48) and the management team.

http://www.seoul.co.kr/news/newsView.php?id=20200826500071

It didn't mention if the funds of actual account holders are going to be freeze. But I'm sure that once the investigation is done, it will be refunded. Ranked #178 in cmc with a decent trading volumes of 16,807 BTC.

6972  Economy / Scam Accusations / Lazarus Group campaign targeting crypto thru LinkedIn on: August 26, 2020, 10:44:06 PM
Lazarus group are now using LinkedIn - an online platform that connects every professionals around the world. I have a LinkedIn account myself, so I'm familiar on how it is being used. And so the hacking group Lazarus from North Korea are on the hunt using this platform for someone who is working on crypto like sys ad or probably even just a average joe like you and me that involves himself in crypto blockchain specially if it is written on your LinkedIn profile.

Quote
INITIAL ACCESS
F-Secure’s investigation revealed that a system administrator from the target organization received a phishing document via their personal LinkedIn account. The document masqueraded as a legitimate job advert for a role in a blockchain technology company that matched the employee’s skills.

So if you have a LinkedIn and received such malicious message, specially if it is shortened, don't ever click on the link and use your common sense here as you might fall victim to this group and lost your crypto assets in a blink of an eye.

Fidelity President Files For New Bitcoin Fund

Quote
Fidelity president and director of digital funds, Peter Jubber, today filed paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) informing the regulator of a new fund dedicated to bitcoin.

The previously unknown Wise Origin Bitcoin Index Fund I, LP was incorporated this year and is being run from the same Boston headquarters where the investing giant manages $8.3 trillion in customer funds. The early documentation provides little in the way of details about the fund, and shows zero investors have currently participated. We do know that the minimum investment to join the pooled investment fund is $100,000, indicating this is likely only for institutional and accredited investors.

official documents: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1822414/000182241420000001/xslFormDX01/primary_doc.xml

Seems that every Wall Street are into bitcoin right now, they smell huge profit to be made as we have started a bull run already and perhaps they don't want to be left out in the closet when we have a massive run thru 2021 and beyond.

One incorrect character can cause you to lose your Bitcoin.

I appreciate the sentiment behind it, but it is factually incorrect. One incorrect character in an address will lead to an incorrect checksum and therefore an invalid address which your wallet will not accept. There is only a 1 in 4,294,967,296 chance that one incorrect character can cause you to lose your bitcoin.

That's not to say you shouldn't double/triple/quadruple check every address - you absolutely should - but any incorrect or fake address will almost certainly differ by more than one character.

I don't think I will agree with you on this. First and foremost, how did you come about with this statistics '' There is only a 1 in 4,294,967,296 chance that one incorrect character can cause you to lose your bitcoin.''   You can't just state figures without giving us proof on how you obtain it. So far as there is some level of chance, you can loose your bitcoin when you input an incorrect address.

What proof do you want? Bitcoin addresses is design to have checksums, hashing it through SHA256 twice and then getting the first 4 bytes as your checksum. So taking the first 4 bytes ensures that it is unique by itself. So taking that into account, (2^32)-1 = 4,294,967,295 chances.

6976  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Google to switch PH BPO partner following online scam (and mentions Bitcoin) on: August 26, 2020, 08:48:02 PM
I was just talking to my wife about this news as she used to work on BPO as well. And myself have some interactions with some employee in the Cebu area way back about IT related works so I was quite suprised that this wall pulled by some Cebuanos.

But this won't affect bitcoin though, this could probably in the news for sometime specially in Facebook and yeah it could affect the image of bitcoin again for Filipinos. But I doubt that the whole country will learn their lessons here, Filipinos easily forget this kind of negative press. And for Filipino crypto enthusiasts, they don't care about this news. They will just continue and go on with their lives and still be on the bitcoin bandwagon.
6977  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jeff Horn vs. Tim Tszyu on: August 26, 2020, 07:54:02 PM
So it was a one sided fight, and Tim Tszyu didn't disappoint us. He totally beat up Jeff Horn and he now became Australian top boxer. Props to Horn, after the interview he didn't makes any excuses and even told the press that Tim Tszyu has what it takes to carry the flag of Australia in international boxing. And it's good that the corner of Horn, stop the fight early to save him from further damage.
6978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jeff Horn vs. Tim Tszyu on: August 25, 2020, 10:11:55 PM
This fight is less than 24 hours from now and the odds seems not moving. My target of 3+ for Horn won't happen i think but nevertheless i would take this 2.70 Horn, gonna go for the underdog this time  Smiley.

But wait, there's an accusation of the Horn's camp on the judges.

Quote
Trainer Glenn Rushton stoked the flames at Tuesday's weigh-in, accusing judge and former fighter Phillip Holiday of telling a friend Tszyu would win.

He also raised the issue of second judge Chris Condon owning the gym Tszyu has been training out of, pointing to his close association with Tim's father Kostya as another potential compromise.

https://tv5.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/29735150/judge-bias-claim-rocks-jeff-horn-tim-tszyu-fight

Tasting their own medicine? lol...no further comment about that.

By the way, you'll get a better odds in Nitrogensports.  (https://nitrogensports.eu/sport/Boxing/248/Fights)

Time to recoup some lost from the last fight, Lol, anyways, Horn says that he is going to rag doll Tim because he has advantage of the weight.

Quote
At a press conference Monday, Horn said he was surprised to learn that Tszyu was within 500g of the 70kg mark 24 hours prior to Tuesday's weigh-in.

"I think it's silly. I don't know if he's lying, but telling me he's only 70.5kg ... I'll be throwing him around like a rag doll if he's that light," said Horn, per the Australian Associated Press. "It's a massive size difference. I can't believe him ... how crazy to [already] be 70.5 for a 69.85 fight."

6979  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Japan Plans To Ban Cryptocurrency From Coincheck Hack on: August 23, 2020, 10:30:45 PM
I have this question bothered in mind, do you think if the said amounts are sold, should the buyer be considered as one of the alleged suspects? And if the authorities investigate that case and trace the transactions made, how can they find it? There are too many ways toa hide their identity and might they will use dark web users are slick, and every minute addresses change or even in Bitcoin mixer.

The hacker was so fast moving I think he was absolutely committed to getting out of it and gone as quickly as possible. Judging by the way they acted no way would they want any of it to remain, or have any link to it.

Yeah, just like ordinary criminals, once they got the item, they want to dispose it that quick so that there will be no trace evidence. So they are willing to sell at a discount and buyers knew they are illegal. We have this so called law here, Anti-Fencing law which is criminal act itself.

The buyers clearly knew what they were buying. I think someone said that the tor site selling the hacked XEM, where it was heavily, heavily discounted, had a photo of Kim Jong Un rubbing his hands on it so it was totally obvious it was the stolen property. And of course you would've had to know it was there and what it was to find the site in the first place. It all happened very rapidly.

And that site that is selling those illegal NEM simply disappear and replace by this.  Grin

Worst decision of Oscar if he really decides to make a comeback (and not just hyping boxing fans). He is too old for this. I don't simply agree with this decision. Manny is doing it at age 40 because he is active. But we can't say that about Oscar, you just have to look at his picture. Here is Oscar's statement about his boxing return.
