701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: June 17, 2014, 05:17:19 PM
What about defamation/slander of someones character?  Or do we just send them some Trollcoin?

I've been slandered/falsely accused several times on this forum, I don't think the admins give a sh!t.

To be fair though, they can't investigate every instance of slander/defamation .. people need to think for themselves, defend themselves, and be smart.
702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MINERS UNITE! Block the FBI coins. Do not fund violent underground organizations on: June 17, 2014, 04:59:19 PM
I agree with the OP in principle, but in reality those FBI coins (stolen, robbed coins) are going into circulation one way or another ...
703  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-03-14] CD: Xapo Raises $20 Million for Ultra-Secure Bitcoin Storage on: June 17, 2014, 12:45:54 AM
anyone actually USING this so-called Xapo card? Or is this just more HYPE and BULLSHIT to raise venture capital funds?

Unlike Xapo, my Bitcoin Debit Card (BITPLASTIC) actually WORKS RIGHT NOW ...

706  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: AML/KYC Explained on: June 17, 2014, 12:39:53 AM
AML/KYC does NOT protect anyone from being scammed. MtGox was the biggest fraud in the history of Bitcoin and it complied with AML/KYC laws.

All AML/KYC does is force small Bitcoin startups out of business because they can't afford to register with FinCEN.  It's just another monopoly trick and it does NOT protect ANYONE from getting ripped off.
707  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: AML/KYC Explained on: June 17, 2014, 12:38:41 AM
AML/KYC is a barrier to entry for small Bitcoin startups and effectively hinders Bitcoin innovation .. it should be IGNORED
708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am selling half of my Bitcoin holdings because of Ghash on: June 16, 2014, 10:09:55 PM
It's because Bitcoin is mined by ASIC's, which are controlled by large ASIC farms, which are controlled by a few individuals.

Bitcoin would be much better if it was still GPU/CPU only.

I agree
709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am selling half of my Bitcoin holdings because of Ghash on: June 16, 2014, 10:08:30 PM
why do we keep seeing announcements that people are getting OUT, while big names are clearly going IN?

-bm

The big names (Expedia, Overstock, King's College, etc) are indeed *GETTING IN*

But do you think they're accumulating and holding their Bitcoins?  Or cashing them out to fiat?

I can guarantee you - 100% - that expedia is not in the business of holding Bitcoins as investment. They're cashing them out.  It's a payment method for their customers, not an investment for them. That's a huge difference.

I'm not *GETTING OUT* of Bitcoin at all.  I'm not selling my businesses; in fact I'm launching new Bitcoin sites.  I'm just not willing to hold a huge amount of my net worth (I don't use banks at all) in Bitcoin when a 51% attack could seriously damage the currency; even the threat of a 51% attack is bad enough to undermine my confidence in it.

And, again, it's not just a financial decision, but an ideological one as well.  I don't want to be fully invested in centralized decentralized currency!
710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am selling half of my Bitcoin holdings because of Ghash on: June 16, 2014, 08:55:02 PM
It's not a financial decision per-se, more of a matter of principle.

I agree though - after the US Marshal sale, Bitcoin should explode upward in July and throughout the summer. I wouldn't be surprised to see prices hit $2000 by August.  Mass adoption is already occuring (Expedia, etc)

But, imagine what would happen if Ghash (or some other rogue operator or hacker who managed to gain control of Ghash) actually carried out a 51% attack.  Remember what the MtGox crash did to the price?  How would a 51% attack affect Bitcoin?  It would be a total, absolute catastrophe and I think most people would lose faith in the currency at that point.

So I'm keeping half my Bitcoin holdings and exploring other cryptocurrencies which I think will be more viable in the future, ie those which are impervious to attack by a large mining pool.  Of course, if the Ghash issue is eventually resolved, I would consider moving the remainder of funds back into BTC.

Only time will sell ... I urge Gavin Andresen and other core developers and the Bitcoin community as a whole to band together and solve the mining pool issue once and for all.
711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I am selling half of my Bitcoin holdings because of Ghash on: June 16, 2014, 08:48:09 PM
Unfortunately, I'm following in Peter Todd's footsteps.  I'm a huge believer in decentralized cryptocurrency, not 'semi-decentralized' cryptocurrency.  Bitcoin needs to be TRUSTLESS for it to function as a viable and reliable currency.

Ghash.io has succeeded in centralizing Bitcoin.  Whether a 51% attack ever occurs is completely irrelevant; the POTENTIAL for such an attack makes Bitcoin extremely unreliable at this point.

Bitcoin core developers and the community need to come together to fix the Bitcoin protocol so that is no longer vulnerable to hijack by large mining pools. Until that happens, I can't fully trust Bitcoin as a value store, and neither should you.

I'm converting half of my Bitcoin to gold temporarily, and investigating other altcoins which could one day replace Bitcoin.  Cryptocurrency needs to be invulnerable to 51% attacks, or the entire theme of decentralization becomes a mockery.

712  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitVPS - service issue anyone? on: June 16, 2014, 07:19:14 PM
Just an update, BitVPS has fixed the problem and provided a compensation for the downtime.

I do apologize to any clients who experienced downtime as a result of the network issue (which was on BitVPS's end).  We had about 24-36hrs offline as a result. All sites are back online and no balances were affected.

We're now considering hotswap backups to ensure this doesn't happen again, so that we can immediately switch to another live host in the case of an upstream hosting problem.

Anyways, BITVPS fixed the issue after about 24-36hrs, although I would have preferred a little faster service, since these are live financial sites.

This is the only problem I've ever had with their hosting.
713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some online gold dealers will not accept tumbled or shared coins on: June 16, 2014, 07:00:28 PM
There is no way to determine if a bitcoin has been 'laundered' or not.  I should know, as I own BitLaunder.com :-)
714  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitVPS - service issue anyone? on: June 16, 2014, 06:49:42 PM

715  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitVPS - service issue anyone? on: June 16, 2014, 06:45:28 PM
Thanks for the tip, will do. I've got 10,000+ clients ancy for these sites to go back online ASAP!
716  Economy / Service Discussion / BitVPS - service issue anyone? on: June 16, 2014, 06:30:51 PM
Hi folks,

Anyone else having a problem with BitVPS.com? I have several major live financial sites on a dedicated server with them, including BitLaunder and BitPlastic, and the server went completely offline yesterday and I've received no help whatsoever from BitVPS.

Anyone else having trouble with them, or is it just me??
717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Calling all Bitcoiners: SPEAK OUT against CIRCLE! on: June 15, 2014, 04:13:27 AM
Who is a 'trustworthy entity' ? CIRCLE?

Right ... just like MtGox was trustworthy up until Karpeles ran off with everyone's coin.

You want a TRUSTWORTHY ENTITY?  Try an exchange or wallet service using TRUSTLESS IMPLEMENTATION such as multisig.

In fact, my whole network is moving to trustless wallets in the very near future .. I will not have access to anyone's private keys and therefore even the site owner would not be able to steal user funds.  If my grandmother was dying of cancer I couldn't steal your coins ..

Every exchange and wallet service should be moving RAPIDLY to implement trustless architecture.  No one should EVER trust their coins to a service like Circle, which could simply disappear.

Here are some possible scenarios where you could lose ALL YOUR COINS with Circle:

A. The US government decides it doesn't like Bitcoin and bans it
B. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire decides he wants that SuperYacht and runs off with the BTC (Not so far-fetched.  Remember Chris Mallick of ePassporte? He stole millions of dollars, including $50,000 of MY MONEY, to fund his silly porn movie)
C. A Circle ROGUE EMPLOYEE steals the BTC
D. A hacker steals the BTC
E. Circle decides to cancel your account because of onerous verification requirements

Who knows what other horror scenario could result in the loss of millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin through Circle.

Circle might be good for Bitcoin temporarily as it brings the clueless masses into the game. Fine and dandy. But what happens when it turns into a massive ponzi scam like MtGox? Do we really need another Bitcoin exchange disaster??
718  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Xapo will never work on: June 15, 2014, 04:07:46 AM
so I wonder, how is XAPO doing?

Anyone actually using them?

Or is this more HYPE and bullshit and not the real McCoy?
