701  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Questions for immersion cooling vendors on: June 22, 2022, 08:14:26 PM
Hmm, looks like Castrol is getting into the immersion cooling fluids biz. https://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/electric-vehicle-fluids/data-centre-and-edge-fluids.html
Definitely worth looking into Wink
702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: June 22, 2022, 02:13:03 AM
Yes. The Compac-F's will not run with vh's versions of cgminer as it lacks the driver needed for the chip the F uses... You need to use Kano's updated one (he wrote the driver for the F). He also cleaned up a lot of vh's previous code that Sidehacks older sticks use. P.3 of this thread has all the details.

Actually this one does Smiley
Then he must have updated it with Kano's driver because no non-Bitmain driver for the chip existed before that.
703  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: June 22, 2022, 01:17:10 AM
Okay so I got CGMiner to run at startup on a Pi 4 although I can't seem to actually see it in the terminal it on the pi!  Cheesy

Here is what I added this to the /etc/rc.local
Code:
cd /home/pi/git/vthoang/cgminer
sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u BTCADD.PI1 -p x --gekko-compacf-freq 570 --gekko-start-freq 420 --suggest-diff 128

I see the stats on the pool side but have no idea how to actually view what's running in the usual CGMiner terminal window!
ctrl-alt-f1 does show me the terminal window but its not displayed as it would be if I just entered the commands in terminal.
Any suggestions?

704  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Amlogic S905 viable for mining? on: June 20, 2022, 02:40:35 AM
That chip is a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53-based SoC with a Mali-450 MP3 GPU (mainly used for video streaming devices) which means it is beyond useless for mining Bitcoin. As to can it be used to mine any altcoins aka shitcoins, don't know nor care considering this is the Bitcoin area of the Forum. Perhaps try asking in the altcoin areas.
705  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miners Are On Big Sale on: June 19, 2022, 03:42:32 PM
Hello thanks for your suggestion.
We do realize this tax issue, so far our couriers don't support lower invoice value . We may need find more flexible couriers.
It is not a matter of providing a 'lower invoice value' -- that is illegal.

What Phil is talking about is buying 1 miner every 2 weeks to ensure the miners are not not combined into a single shipment. As long as each shipment is below the trigger price then no Trump Tax is imposed.
706  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Notes from my journey to Beijing & visiting Canaan Creative in March 10-15, 2018 on: June 13, 2022, 10:35:49 PM
Nice journey blog Cool
Thanks. Smiley It was nice meeting with the Canaan people back in 2018.
Too bad that most of those folks are no longer there after the major re-org a year or so ago. Sad
707  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miners Are On Big Sale on: June 09, 2022, 02:26:08 AM
The address shop.canaan.io is not the issue here. That I/we know is valid.
The problem is that neither of Canaan's websites make any mention of having telegram or any other social media channels.
If that telegram channel is officially endorsed by Canaan then the website should list it.

Considering that in the past Canaan has taken great pains to warn about using sites/sales channels that are not endorsed by them I find it baffling for them to now start opening sm contacts and not put that info on their websites so we can know those specific channels can be trusted.  Since those public announcements are not there -- extreme skepticism is called for.
708  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miners Are On Big Sale on: June 08, 2022, 04:58:38 PM
...
Yeah, so far we only have this official telegram group, it's a new group, but now more than 100 members . You may see it somewhere else, it's normal coz we have a online shop team, haha ,we hope more ppl will know our new shop. If it make you guys feel confussed, we shall apologize.
Easy solution: Put that same link on Canaan's website so people can verify that the telegram channel is legitimate.

Both the shop.canaan.io and the main Canaan.io websites have a 'News' or 'Media' areas that are where we would expect there to be an Official announcement and links to the telegram channel...

In short, until the website has that information on it people here are going to be highly suspicious of you.. That said, I see your profile here has been updated to give links to Canaan so that is a good start Cheesy
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Too late to start a mining rig? on: June 08, 2022, 12:12:56 PM
Do you have a good mining rigs frame to recommend?
Any of the Canaan Avalon miners would be an excellent choice.
710  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: June 08, 2022, 03:02:56 AM
Virtually all the fan controllers use the same thin film sensor.
I highly recommend frozencpu and have bought tons of stuff from them including liquid cooling gear.
711  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: June 07, 2022, 10:29:06 PM
I read the New York law and it grandfathers current mines. It does not allow new mines. This is in respect to coal and oil power plants that are providing power behind the meter.
Ie an old shut down plant that reopens to do one thing provide a mine power will not be able to do it with a new mine. However if they are already doing it it is cool.

I am certain this is protection for a large upstate mine that now has behind the meter rates and will not face any competition from a new mine
More than one large mining operation in Upstate NY.
Thing is, there is also at least one large natural gas fueled reserve (peaking) power plant located in the Finger Lakes area that mine during non-peak power times to keep the power plant operating at peak efficiency by not having throttle the boilers & steam turbines up and down. Instead of the usual 30min-1hr it takes to cycle the plant up & down they can now near instantly shift power from their on-site miners to the grid and after peak loads drop almost just as fast shift back to powering miners.

I do hope the new law(s) take them as well as any coal/oil fired reserve peak load plants into account. I should emphasize that peaking plants are sprinkled all over the grid and only run at full output when needed, the rest of the time they are idling with minimal power sent to the regional grids. That makes them different from main power plants whose purpose is to feed The Grid. Tapping into them (main grid supply power plants) just because a mine can be setup next door to them or even on-site -- ja that is an arguable point.

Finally, a 100% fully legit site with no suspicious Telegram or other Social Media links that are not endorsed by Canaan on their website  Grin
@OP - this belongs in either the Mining or Hardware areas - not here in Software so don't be surprised when the mods move it.
Yup, surely 100% fully legit, our official online shop just started in May, it takes time to perfect all social media links. Thanks for your kind reminding, cheers!
When/if you do open up social media links be sure to list the Official channels/contacts on your shop website as well as the main Canaan site so people can verify all social media links they come across/are sent and be able to know that any others claiming to be Canaan are probable scam links. Oh, you should also update your profile here to include the Canaan website link.

So I take it Canaan has dropped using Authorized Distributors such as Blokforge and are now only direct online sales?
713  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: June 07, 2022, 08:22:25 PM
They DO still make the controller I was talking about!!! I might actually just order 2 of these as each one hs 6 probes - could monitor each one of my Compacs!

Actually, any PC fan controller that has temp sensing would work but *that* is the nicest one I've seen. Love the individual temp readouts.  Smiley

715  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BIG SALE! Avalon miners are on a discount! on: June 07, 2022, 12:39:20 PM
Again, folks, BEWARE!
The web address given above is legit  but -- the telegram address is probable scam!
Nowhere on Canaan's website do they make any mention of using ANY social media sites for ANY reason.
Common sense should tell anyone that if a manufacturers website makes no mention of using social media channels then they sure as hell would not be using them as a sales channel. Canaan even goes as far as to state that they do not have sm channels like Telegram and warn you to NOT use them...

When and if Canaan starts using SM channels it's a safe bet they will list the Official contacts/channels on their website.

While I understand this, I want to ask why other coins running on PoS are still in existence, they should have been hijacked before now.
They are still in existence and new ones continue to spawn because most are pure pump & dump scams. The creators of them pre-mine gazillions of the crap coins, wait for them to gain some traction in the markets and then the creators dump their piles of shit into the exchanges to cash out and also kill the market. Then they just rinse & repeat with another 'brilliant' idea for another Piece Of Shit coin.
717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US energy company opens mining facility in Middle East to use stranded natural.. on: June 03, 2022, 08:33:59 PM

This is apparently good news but this is not turning green. So this doesn't go along with the goal of reaching 100% green energy for Bitcoin mining.
Correct.
The CO2 emissions from flaring vs 'using it (the waste gas)' are the same. The only difference is that in most countries flaring is heavily penalized through fines/taxes/etc and those fines are not only in addition to but also much higher compared to the CO2 emission fees/taxes paid by the companies if the gas is put to any sort of practical use on-site. When the gas is put to use then only the emission penalties are paid. With the additional income generated through flare mining it is certainly a win-win for the companies involved.
718  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will you declare the import amount low when you import the miner from China? on: June 03, 2022, 02:33:42 PM

maybe they just use their own cargo plane to deliver without doing the customs declaration one by one
That is aka, smuggling, which is something most countries frown upon... When anyone/company bring in commercial goods across economic borders whether by commercial carrier or carried on the back of a mule most countries will require it to go through Customs.
719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will you declare the import amount low when you import the miner from China? on: June 01, 2022, 03:43:15 PM
Since the duty and penalty tax are so high. Will you declare the import amount lower when you import the miner from China?  What if the customs notice it, will there be more trouble?
Asking will you do a crime is not likely to get you honest answers.
If I buy from bitmain directly I know I am out 25-35% tax.
I figure it in.
That's right, i guess most may hide the full amount to save some import duties.
Then you guess wrong! More to the point, the buyer has no say in what the value of a shipment is that an exporter declares to Customs. If a manufacturer or exporter cares about staying in business they will NOT 'help' you like that.

No one likes it BUT most of us here DO NOT try to 'hide' the equipment cost and NO reputable manufacturer would ever help you to falsify the value of a shipment. A manufacturer or exporter falsifying declared value is a very good way to have their goods banned from entering a country once they are caught.

As for the recipient the equipment was destined for, yer boned. In cases like that the equipment is seized by Customs.
720  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Browsermine Scam or Legit? on: May 31, 2022, 08:37:26 PM
FYI ALL 'browser mining' sites per-se are scams for the simple reason that BTC difficulty is far far too high to directly mine using any PC. IF - and that is a big if - a website does actually payout for using it, then they are using your PC for mining a very low difficulty - and very low value - coin such as Monero and convert your 'earnings' into Bitcoin once you have earned enough to do it. Be prepared to wait a very long time for any meaningful income...
