Sexcoin Block Explorer:

I've cobbled together a test block explorer on a crap server, because I think we could use one. 2GMTA stopped serving theirs up.

http://litecoin.lavajumper.com:9950

No promises about how long I can keep it up, but I'll run it here as long as I can, or until I can find a good host.
Until then, enjoy!

Awesome! I wish it had the hashrate ... Whats your SXC Address ?  I'd like to tip you  Wink

$15 a day on coin that can't be used or easily converted BTC, ouch.  I would switch to a new coin sooner rather than later.  Just my opinion.
Some guy was wanting to buy some of these earlier, track him down and cash out as much as you can.

Yeah I'm waiting for the difficulty change at block 20640 first... I'm not going to leave other miners hanging crunching through hard blocks.. and I'll leave a rig on the network.

It seems mining has changed .. It used to be that you mined because you believed in the principles of the currency and in years to come they might be worth something... how many months did those BTC early adopters run their rigs mining worthless BTC?

Now you hop currencies like you used to hop pools, and dump 'em as quick as you can.. It's bad enough that you actually are better off guessing which currency is gonna rise so you already have a stash when they hit a peak.. And I speculate that all alts will rise as ASIC's take over the BTC network, so even then you might be better off hoarding..

But, this is just a hobby to me, not a business. I have enough BTC to mine what I want until August and pay that electricity bill, so I'll take the risk.

703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Sexcoin - coin for adult industry on: June 10, 2013, 01:11:19 AM
I agree alts are a dime a dozen but I felt something with SXC, thinking this could actually take off in the industry- but then you think why wouldn't BTC just do this? It's a bittersweet feeling. I mined a couple of thousand coins to just have but I'll let his play out a bit more before getting back into it.

BTC is too slow.. Some would say SXC is slow, but the faster you go the less secure it is..

I think porn sites would have to act as online wallets.. you wait six minutes for your funds to move onto the site, as you download the value of each item is subtracted from your wallet, if funds are low you can top up via credit card from the site, then you can move them to your own wallet, or the wallet of another site which means another six minutes.. BTC's 60 minutes not so much.

I think cryptocurrencies will have niches.. If something happens to my BTC I'm crying because I just lost my life savings, but if I lose my SXC, I'm annoyed cause I had 10 bucks worth in there and my fave pornstar "Busty La Rue" just did a new photoshoot...

But I'm sweating it, I'm paying 15$ a day to run these rigs, and the Dev is visiting the forum but not posting so if I don't see some effort soon I'll pull my rigs and chalk it up to experience. I got burnt with royalcoin.

It has occurred to me that anybody could create an updated client and develop this coin..

Keep mining it, and holding-on... Only if you have the machines to spare. Launch to the exchanges was premature.

Yeah.. I'm keeping some hashpower on it.. went and picked up some BBQ and LKY, and a bit of LTC to pay the bills, then mined some orphans and did some maintainence while I waited for the difficulty drop and went all in again..

If the Dev doesn't publish his website, we'd be better off mining RYC... If he does and it's schmick, we got a winner.. If it's so-so, then we are in with a chance.. Whether the coin has support is critical to it's value.

There's a sea of new alts out there, not many have taken on and survived a faster coin targeting their niche, and have a website that accepts them in the first few days that wasn't produced by the Dev themselves.

Lets face it, SXC is just another clone, but it's value lies in that it is targeted at an industry that will need to move to a microtransactional business model as other entertainment industries (music and gaming) have done to survive, and it excels as a medium of exchange for that model.

I think it realistically has a better chance of succeeding in this than these other clones have of deposing BTC as the currency of choice.

The mining is so good right now, there is no reason to join a pool for this.
SEX and BBQ are still my favorites. I like me some barbecued catfish.

Goddamnitt!!! the network hashrate has tripled.... I was hoping this would stay under the radar until the website launch... It's admittly a risk, but I was willing to devote a few days solo because the mining is great without needing some kind of mega rigs... I stay for a few more K though

Yeap, them BBQ are looking good.. Might get a few LKY too.. some people might like to use them to gamble..

Don't take this advice.. I mined bitcoins at 5$ and waited 9 or so months to sell at 200$+.. I mined litecoins when I could get 500 a day @ a few cents each instead of less than ten a day and sold them at 3$+... And I've got all my hashpower pointed at sexcoins and if you mine them too I'll get less.. The difficulty has already started rising over the last day... Wait until theres a website, an exchange, a few games, and a market and jump on the bandwagon with everbody else... Take no risks and be a late adopter.. Expect a massive profit as soon as you mine and hold nothing. That's how you make money in cryptocurrency world...  Tongue

I'm holding a few sexcoins.. The reason is I've watched a documentary about changes in the pornography industry by louis theroux.. I also studied the rise of microtransactional business models on the internet as part of my studies...Now lets talk porn..

The porn industry has been experiencing difficulties adjusting to the internet era, much in the same way the music industry had adjustment forced upon it. Copyrighted material is availible for free through peer to peer networks, and through filesharing sites, which reduces the profitability of the endevour.

In the music industry, no customer in their right mind would join a site for a month, to have access to every album produced when all they wanted was a particular song, or the album of a particular artist that takes a few seconds to download. Although inconvienent they would be likely to search peer to peer torrents, or filesharing sites and download the material. This is the business model most providers use in the porn industry.

A microtransactional model would allow the customer to download the material immediately from the provider paying only for the material desired, dramatically reducing the cost in the customers eyes. The medium of a cryptocurrency would provide anonyminity and security to the customer, as well as a greater selection of content across providers if widespread adoption occurs.

Not only would there would be greater convenience for the customer in paying for copyrighted material than using torrents or file shareing sites, but the point of sale could be at promotional webpages as well as the site itself. The currency could have an advantage over traditional cryptocurrencies if the providers of the material also acted as exchanges of fiat for cryptocurrency, which could lead to greater stability and security as there would be no single point of failure, as MTGOX has become in the bitcoin ecosystem.

It is unfortunate that the developers are attempting to follow the traditional path of cryptocurrencies, when they should be promoting the advantages to the industry they have targeted and developing the tools to make adoption a reality.

In short, it's a long shot but it could be bigger than you think, so I wouldn't go dismissing "sexcoins" out of hand.

Count me in...

I thought about a coin which you could swap other script based currencies for, destroying the coins on the network  eg.. you could destroy X shitcoins to create X "".. but I'm not a coder or a cryptonerd so some of the finer points were beyond me.. This sounds like much the same idea..

713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Abort Cryptsy on: May 25, 2013, 01:46:40 PM
Let's get real; 90% of alts are created for the sole purpose of mine and dump. The value of a currency is dictated by it's usability. That's why BTC is so high, LTC has some value, other coins drop like a stone as soon as pump support dissapears, a couple of hours after they hit an exchange. No real world use == no value.

Couldn't agree more. BTC and LTC can actually be used as intended, as a form of currency. Hence their fairly stable valuation. Everything else thus far, with maybe the exception of FTC which can actually be used with some retailers, are simple investment commodities. Their only real value is a speculated one. A value which is pegged against similar investment commodities with similar speculated value. The problem I see, is that even an honest to god coin with every intention of breaking the mold will simply fall prey to the pump and dump flash mining mentality. For every 1 person with an actual vested interest in cryptocurrencies, you have 100 who are simply here to pay the electric bill, break even on the hardware, and buy a case of beer.

When I started mining it was because I saw merit in the ideas behind bitcoin, but it was an experiment and I took the veiw that it was worth risking some time and energy on it. The coins I mined were hardly worth the cost of electricity, but as months passed those coins slowly gained value. When I mined litecoins it was much the same.

Let me give it to you straight... It ain't easy to make money... These new coins may have less resistance to development because of bitcoins successes but there must be development behind the currency.. not just the release of the client. And anybody can (and apparently will) release a coin so suddenly theres alot of competition... yada yada limited market capital.. blah blah debasement.

Personally I feel angry when someone who is doing something for cryptocurrency gets used as somebody's scapegoat when their get rich quick scheme doesn't come off as planned....

Vern wont scam ya but hes probably feeling the pressure at the moment lol

Yeap .. Not many pools running on donation only, not many pool owners who'll reply to your questions quick, and he made clear that this launch is a beta .. Only been mining with him a short time, but I reckon he's aright...

Others already have sell orders in.. I just did a small test fund of a few coins...

And a few minutes later I've got 0 confirmations (offline)

718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Update] Root (4-Week Altcoin Announcement) on: May 20, 2013, 12:19:07 AM

One problem is that the word Root is a swear word in at least one english speaking country. I as far as I know anyway. Maybe it's route that's the swear. An Australian will be able to correct me if I'm wrong. But from what I've been told it's worse than f*ck.

I can confirm that calling this coin "Root" would be the same as calling it "Fuck" from an Australian perspective.

You might want to try some social expermentation with the name.. I did.. before Bitcoins went mainstream

When I explained to people that I was "mining" "bitcoins", I was an eccentric involved in a madcap scheme, but at least it kept me occupied and off the streets.

When I explained to people I was recieving a small reward in "Binary Trading Credits" for "securing the BTC decentralised network by cross-checking and generating SHA256 encryption" I was a highly intelligent individual involved in the cutting edge of technology ....

Don't take my world for it.. Try it for yourself and see what the results are..

P.S Good work on the retarget rate.. we used to hop pools.. now we hop currencies..

On http://wdcpool2.erundook.net/ I have only gotten 1 share with 1700khps after about 30 minutes.  The difficulty looks really high over there but 1 share still seems like too little.  What should I be expecting with my speed?
1 share? thats weird. what is your account id?

479

I'm new at this, but with WDC's fast blocks I had to change my queue to 0, scantime to 1, and expiry to 5 to get a decent rate.
I have also had the experience of wondering why a pool was'nt accepting my hashrate only to find massive hardware errors reported in cgminer.. had me puzzled for awhile..give me a break.. it was at 3 am and I had just woken up.. Tongue

Oh and it was my thread concurrency...
