7081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to fake the BTC blockchain? on: November 08, 2019, 01:07:35 PM
Possible if the buyer is not really that into bitcoin just yet since the seller could give him a link to a pre-fabricated app displaying wrong information and feed/supply the wrong information. The only real way to avoid this is to not use the seller’s hotspot connection. Go to a public place wherein wifi is available and could not easily tampered, let seller scan your address’ QR code and pay him/her. Personally I don’t really connect to a public network I don’t trust but when it comes to such need, I go to Starbucks or anywhere else where wifi is free and use their connection.
7082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How BIG will the crypto market be if China legit cryptos? on: November 08, 2019, 11:53:52 AM
China legalizing bitcoin don’t necessarily mean a bull run or expansion of the market. We already have had enough of the Chinese influence in our markets and network that it’s hard to think what more could they add if the head honchos of their economy are already involved in a way. Perhaps it will just be more evident to the Chinese the effects and applications of bitcoin, but not to the point that a bull run or an increased valuation will happen.
7083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 190 Indian Banks Raided in Fraud Crackdown – Can Bitcoin Be an Alternative? on: November 07, 2019, 03:59:23 PM
Usually most frauds are perpetrated in a single bank, washed on different branches and other allied banks to cover-up the trail. I don’t actually believe the 190 individual banks to be separate entities but rather a collection of bank branches of the same banking groups, and I don’t blame the Indian government since this is really rampant and happening around the world.

Bitcoin can always be an alternative, though knowing the possible implications of it in the money transfer and banking facets of the economy—as was hinted with the 190 banks connected to fraud—it might be even harder for it to pass legal status on India.
7084  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Digital Currency para sa mga biktima ng Lindol on: November 07, 2019, 03:24:43 PM
I have already donated in kind and will also donate in cryptocurrency. Mainam na maestablish natin na maaaring gamitin ang cryptocurrencies for the purpose of donation, pero as of now quick dissemination of funds and goods ang kailangan ng mga kababayan natin sa Mindanao. Mahihirapan pa ang conversion ng mga kinauukulan kung sakali kaya dapat ready-made or mabilis maliquidate ang mga ibibigay in times of emergencies and needs.

Have shared the information to my groups in social media. Hope that counts as well.
7085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After a decade, Bitcoin in charts on: November 07, 2019, 02:45:44 PM
The amount of effort and thought put into this is superb!

But talking about the statistics and the numbers, in just a decade more or less, bitcoin has achieved a lot of things that other assets and/or currencies cannot, and that is truly remarkable wherein most of the society are convinced that the best financial tool that ever happened is fiat and nothing more. Starting from a group of people that just has the same interest and hobbies to people from different walks of life and backgrounds, bitcoin has achieved tons of things. The numbers aren't easily padded as everything is transparent in the blockchain, and everyone can check for themselves.

And if any doubters come here and ask nonsensical questions contesting what is stated within these charts, lead them to any block explorer and let them compile the historical data laid before their eyes.
7086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Skill based gambling platforms - does anyone know? on: November 06, 2019, 06:53:19 PM
There was one announcement in the Gambling section a month ago regarding a leaderboard-type rankings for a gambling game and whoever gets/grinds to the top gets the prize pool. I just can’t find it after a few minutes of searching but I believe that’s the only one I could think of. There are other platforms though the reward systems aren’t that great and not really worth it in the end.
7087  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff: China’s Gold Backed Crypto is better than Bitcoin on: November 06, 2019, 06:27:13 PM
And how would I even believe his opinions again? The dude is a gold bug, and anything gold-related he could get his hands on, he would surely go, even if it means discussing things he never fully understand nor comprehend. After Jamie Dimon went into silence after years of bashing bitcoin, Schiff has replaced him and been continuing to stress that “bitcoin is inferior to gold” thing to further his ambitions. This time, piggybacking China’s decision to create a gold-backed crypto.

I just hope he wouldn’t retract his statements after the said currency has launched, and failed.
7088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your Thoughts On Jorg Molt on: November 06, 2019, 06:03:59 PM
Not convinced until he explains everything in detail and at least move some substantial coins on the network. For sure, being the co-founder of bitcoin you’ll have your own fair share of the first few million coins knowing that it’s only a handful of people working on the project. A lot of people have been claiming to be satoshi but this man right here tends to just stay on the calmer avenue and settles for the ‘sidekick’ of Satoshi wherein not everyone is claiming the spot of.

Move funds or gtfo, I’d say.
7089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Like An Orphan on: November 06, 2019, 05:21:02 PM
Giving away free money does not mean that people will come to the project uniquely. After the said giveaway stunt was done, I'm pretty sure those who received some will cash it out and further crash the market, or would be interested in a short while and be done with it. Bitcoin doesn't need that. It flourished in itself and with the community genuinely backing it every step of the way. Also, people found out that bitcoin can be used in many things, that's why most of them stayed all throughout and are still here.

If your coin/project is unique and is genuinely applicable to some aspects of the economy, it will flourish and develop naturally without the crazy antics such as giving it away Grin
7090  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: First time betting at Fortunejack withdrawal delay on: November 06, 2019, 04:53:29 PM
Yeah I don't want to say anything bad about them just yet, since they haven't completely denied me. They asked me for more explanation about the account and I told them that it might be because I used a vpn. I gave them my real IP (the one I've used on the account aswell) and I told them I will stop using a VPN on the site (which is allowed according to their livechat agent). So I'm waiting for them to reply again.

Most gambling services deny withdrawals on accounts that have changed IP (ex., from Germany IP to South Korean IP) since the account might be compromised and it's a preventive measure to avoid such things for happening. They will first review your account activity and ask you a couple of questions before giving the go signal for a withdrawal if all things matched. Fortunejack will not run out with your funds, that I can guarantee, especially since they have established and built this brand from the ground up and are running for years now.
7091  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can I crack a wallet with Satoshi test? on: November 06, 2019, 04:29:48 PM
Ok i just give you a small example
1. The buyer wants to buy 500btc; he provides a bank statement in the amount of 500btc
2. the buyer wants to make sure that the seller has coins in such a volume and requests a satoshi test from a wallet of at least 500 transactions and that it is not a stock wallet
The seller refuses to provide a satoshi test because he is afraid that his wallet will be hacked
from this we can conclude that either the seller does not have coins or the seller is afraid that they can actually crack his wallet

From the above-given scenario, no such hacks would ever be accomplished but the seller will be exposing his wallet which contains 500 btc (assuming he did the test) and that's basically it, although of course the risk of physical attacks to the seller can still happen if the identity of the buyer and the seller is already known to each other. Technically, even if you know the public address of a wallet, you still can't crack it by just using that. You still need the private key in order to gain full access to the wallet/address of the seller.
7092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Application (Dapp) on: November 06, 2019, 04:06:09 PM
I won't trust such apps even if there's a guarantee that they don't keep the vital parts themselves and only the wallet is their own while the rest is ours. There's always a possibility for a backdoor no matter how seamless dapps can be. From the numerous reports of hacks and balance disappearance on online wallets, it's safer to follow your own instincts and not trust third-party providers for the bulk of your funds, not unless you need it transferred in a fast manner.
7093  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Blow your mind on: November 06, 2019, 03:38:58 PM
It overshadows the outputs and inputs of the largest money remittance companies of the world, and I think na maganda itong panimula as explanation kung ano ba talaga ang tulong ng bitcoin sa current economy natin worldwide.
7094  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How someones made 184 Billion Bitcoin appear out of nowhere on: November 06, 2019, 03:19:39 PM
This was actually one of the lesser known incidents for bitcoin that hasn't been discussed for ages and is a nice bit of information that during the early days, nothing was perfect but everyone involved strived to get a fix as soon as possible. I've read the original thread years before this has been brought up again (thanks to @o_e_l_e_o for bringing up the original link to the discussion) and it fascinates me the coordination in between different devs and community members all at once, and fixed the problem in less than ~12 hours.
7095  Economy / Economics / Re: US Federal Reserve Hiring Retail Payments Manager to Research Digital Currencies on: November 05, 2019, 04:30:50 PM
They might actually transition towards cryptocurrencies in the near future if this is the direction that they are taking. They are already taking the baby steps towards adoption and are now seeing the actual applications of a working cryptocurrency on real-life economic situations and not just on simulations and theories. A digital USD would be a lot easier to control the supply of compared to minting new coins and dollars IMO. And also, as the ‘old’ population dies off and a lot have switched to digital payments, it’s a no-brainer for the governments to follow suit and introduce their own digital currencies rather than printing paper every time.
7096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Technology "bottled" up on: November 05, 2019, 04:05:36 PM
If it brings about innovation and other things that will help the spread of bitcoin even further then I’m fine with it, even if it does not directly meddle with bitcoin and/or associated with it in any way. I have learned to accept that everything that sprouts in the cryptocurrency scene is not directly partaking in bitcoin but is somewhat helping it in some way and that’s okay. We have new techs rising, new techniques being used and new practices being developed to aid us that the exclusivity for bitcoin projects that maximalists claim tend to fall out of place in no time.
7097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on Stock Exchange (Is Adoption Directly Proportional to Market Volume?) on: November 05, 2019, 11:11:25 AM
I don’t think this will pan out for long. Stock market movements are always almost instantaneous, and I don’t think this will be fulfilled by bitcoin nor even keep up with everything. Also, what bitcoin will be on these stock exchanges could just be representations of bitcoins or just derivatives and not really actual bitcoins as we already have the traditional platforms for that. Anyways, this adoption has been happening for quite some time now and nothing will be changed, really, if ever this gets approved.
7098  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would an Economy based on BTC look like? on: November 05, 2019, 06:49:07 AM
From a non-biased perspective, it will be in shambles and not enough bitcoin would go around the economy as anyone would be urged to hold as it incentivizes the people more rather than spend their precious bitcoins. The economy would literally try to save itself from itself, and would not be functional in the long run as the money supply would be low to go around.
7099  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether Backing Problem on: November 04, 2019, 06:26:21 PM
I have always doubted Tether’s claims of being fully backed by the dollar and/or any assets to be fully functional and keep their value no matter what. They have been targeted by a lot of scrutiny but apparently people are just good in turning a blind eye over what appears to be a serious case of deception perpetrated by them. I never keep my funds in USDT, only during transfers from one exchange to another, and that only happens very rarely as most of the time I never really trade on different exchange.

The notion that USDT will keep your assets intact against bitcoin’s volatility isn’t true, and I believe that it’s more dangerous to do it that way since you’re betting on Tether’s truthfulness and nothing else. Keep your funds as is or convert to fiat rather than imaginary tokens that are supposedly backed by fiat.
7100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have anyone tried to stop gamblers from losing while they keep on wagering. on: November 04, 2019, 06:03:42 PM
If it’s someone I know personally, I would have told them to stop, but if it’s not then I’m gonna mind my own business and just watch their world burn in front of their eyes. The shittiest thing to do is to interrupt someone trying to recoup their losses and clinging on that ray of hope that they’re going to win, and you might get punched in the face for being so nosey even if you’re just being concerned. Looking out for a homie is a good thing, but to gambling degenerates, it will be taken as something negative and will net negative reactions for sure.
