7141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the biggest problem in crypto currencies? on: August 05, 2014, 10:30:27 PM
The trade-off between confirmation time and blockchain size is a serious problem in my opinion. I absolutely love the quick confirmation time with DOGE, because 10 minutes is just too long, but that being said, even Bitcoin has problems with a huge Blockchain, and faster confirmations times won't help.

I don't mind the confirm times so much except when its with a timer or something example coinbase like you have 30 mins to make the purchase but you want to be out of the variance range by sending a no txt instead to save some fees.
Otherwise you need to send an e-mail about it later kind of a pain, the blockchain growing to much is a real problem though needs UXTO compression badly.

7142  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Primedice.com] Free 0.005 BTC giveaway! on: August 05, 2014, 10:27:30 PM
These giveaways arent great for those of us who wish to remain annoymous, and especially don't want to link our btc addresses with our real identities or FB profiles.

I agree, but Stunna's coins his rules.  Clearly he thinks FB is the future.  I noticed the new ripple called Stella also used FB for its starting giveaway so I guess sponsors just think it is harder for bad guys to exploit FB than alternatives or will reach new users better.

Good Luck!

Well one can still be somewhat pseudoanon if the number is old enough
It's probably designed for those six digit users who spam similar account IDs.
Although with PD3 the numbers might get reset so hmm.
7143  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Asicminer News 15-30% of Network on: August 05, 2014, 10:21:00 PM
Let's talk with numbers out of the latest financial statement, not with historical terms with one single exchange rate.

Here's the last one for speculating on a lot happens in three months before all the news so May 28 ---> August 5th almost a quarter missing.

Policy: The bank deposits and third-party payment systems for Bitcoin exchanges in China are all closed. Workarounds exist (like buying physical cards with deposit code) but the real trading volume is severely affected.

Conversion: We have OTC conversion channels to trade USD for Bitcoins in Hong Kong.
7144  Economy / Gambling / Re: BOT for PrimeDice for free! on: August 05, 2014, 10:17:55 PM

7145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IS BITCOIN A CIA PROJECT? on: August 05, 2014, 09:29:05 PM
Well also if Satoshi was working with the CIA regulation would be much more easier lol.
Pretty much Satoshi knew where this was going and decided he didn't want to work out all those regulatory kinks in 2011 before this began lol.
7146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on Jeopardy! on: August 05, 2014, 09:26:12 PM
Didn't Bitcoin already appear on it? Or am I mixing up things here? Anyways, this is a pretty awesome thing for Bitcoin. I mean, Jeopardy is a highly successful show that is part of US pop culture. If you make it there, you'll make it everywhere!!!

Technically this is the second time the first time is this clip

The second one I saw but didn't see a clip for yet

7149  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: August 05, 2014, 09:02:44 PM
Well here comes the second one
Second Ebola Victim Arrives at Atlanta Hospital

ATLANTA — A North Carolina missionary who contracted Ebola while working at a hospital in Liberia returned to the United States Tuesday to begin treatment at the same specialized isolation unit as another American aid worker who has the virus.

The missionary, Nancy Writebol, was taken to Emory University Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after flying to the United States overnight aboard a private air ambulance that landed at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, in suburban Cobb County.\\

7150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Metcalfe's Law: Bitcoin Price and Adoption Analysis for the Future on: August 05, 2014, 08:50:54 PM
Any chance of getting some updated data? Smiley

That's a good question hard to believe that a six month old chart is already getting outdated  Grin
7151  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: August 05, 2014, 11:03:54 AM
Transporting to NIH is not a big deal in my opinion.  The problem is the laxity and poor supervision of the lab and materials 5 and 10 years from now.  Hey, let's store these smallpox colonies in these ziplock bags and not label them.

This is not some alien movie where the virus can melt through glass and rubber.  It needs to be studied.

Well the last time something like that happened was the Janet Parker case so your right that said if the vials are all hanging out in a reference laboratory or something of the sort then the procedures should be followed fairly well.
7152  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ross Ulbricht 140k bitcoins potential auction and market crash in future. on: August 05, 2014, 10:54:39 AM
I don't think privacy defense going to work well in his case.

Even if it doesn't stick its highly likely that because of this the prosecutors will have to share the big secret - how they got access to the Silk Road servers.

They've been keeping that a BIG secret up to now. It's possible they did something illegal to gain access and if they did it's a high possibility the case will be dismissed due to the "fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine": http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/fruit_of_the_poisonous_tree
If the charges do not stick, I think it will be because the government is not willing to share how the found the servers overseas, or because they used illegal means to find the servers. This very well could be a case that tests the NSA's data collection methods in the supreme court.

It will be an interesting court case regardless, in a sense the result of this case will impact a lot more than the result of a drug raid but venture into data collection and privacy rights, which could be used in further cases against other individuals in unrelated cases.
7153  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-08-04] Irish Times - Bitcoin raises its profile but investors demand more on: August 04, 2014, 10:18:55 PM
http://www.irishtimes.com/business/bitcoin-raises-its-profile-but-investors-demand-more-1.1884918

Quote
This year, the bitcoin network processed between $20 million and $580 million per day in transactions, according to the data aggregated on blockchain.info.

“This is not sustainable,” said Mike Hearn, one of bitcoin’s core developers. “You can’t have an infrastructure held together by chewing gum and sticky tape and people who work evenings and weekends.”

Mike Hearn
The network will work fine without you out there writing code it was designed that way perhaps the issues of nodes and blockchain compression need developers but the core transaction client is fine.

Min txt is also fine as its above dust txts by a fair margin so not sure what the sticky tape spiel is about.

_
Investors from Silicon Valley, in particular, would like the group to focus on more technical matters, particularly fortifying the underlying bitcoin software so it can grow into a viable, large-scale payment network.

Fork it then the community will decide not to join you unless it really is superior  Wink
Until then keep working on the BIPS

_

These "investors" are not investing in the infrastructure, they are only buying bitcoins. If they invested in the infrastructure, then they would see the results that they demand because they would be directly supporting the effort.

Sadly, these "investors" are just big-time speculators with big mouths and bigger egos, and believe that they can get things done just by complaining.

Yep summed it up for me ^_^
7154  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: August 04, 2014, 10:13:48 PM
Yeah maybe better for them, but better for the population of North America? I think they made their choices when they went there knowing there was an outbreak.
True enough kind of a mocking of the Health care system in Africa though, sort of like saying well we know that their health care system is terrible so we would rather just send them back here to the USA since they can afford it and are from the first-world.
7155  Economy / Services / Re: [DiceBitco.in] [Make the most out of your sig!] Make coins by simply posting! on: August 04, 2014, 10:07:31 PM

But you would need 60 anyways to be a Member... that makes no sense.

There was a time when activity requeriment was different, I remember that you need 400 to be hero, 200 to be senior, and probably 50 for member status.

Think the signature campaigns have been copying the rules of each other since then, and didn't bother to update it

I can't recall but I think it was at 460 for a while unless some sort of inflation occurred
Anyways a 50+ would update at the next cycle but your right its probably a copy and paste from some old thread.
7156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ross Ulbricht 140k bitcoins potential auction and market crash in future. on: August 04, 2014, 10:02:09 PM

If you notice they only sold 30k btc which is a wise move to diversify that amount of BTC.   Seems pretty bullish while they are holding the rest.

Na they are in a lawsuit to get access or to use the rest of Ross and his Bitcoins still.

The top 3 asks and the top bid are all from the same bot. Watch it for 2 minutes and pay attention to the timestamps and prices.

It will move when the dividends start coming in according to FC that is sometime in August

7159  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Looking to start a Bitcoin-based investment, need advice on: August 03, 2014, 08:51:36 AM
I personally think Bitcoin is a good alternative currency choice for countries with embargoes and restrictions like Iran. For example, no one in Iran can buy anything online, even a virtual service like a web host. Unlocking opportunities like this with Bitcoin for people seems the right move, as Bitcoin is advocating financial freedom and no government control over currency.

Well in this case it is blame the government not blame the citizens for the actions of the country.

Whether that stands in the legal system is another question as one could argue that a privately held currency used by individual citizens who can be identified would not fund terrorism or be boycottable against a sanctioning state especially if some limits were set on how much they could have in that account, aka enough to live and get buy but not enough to buy a few WMD's Tongue.

Then again one could counter argue that the transfer between individuals could go unprecedented to boycott sanctions and to fund such groups as ISIS but if in the end it needs to go to an exchange it raises some interesting legal questions.
Briefcase of money from bankers for Bitcoins at a discount lol like the offhand exchange of a drug deal Tongue
Then again pseudo anonymous the taint is strong there if someone follows those coins lol.
Same as a US dollar bill ^_^.

I just noticed the timer refreshes when I refresh the page
Kind of neat I guess but I prefer a running countdown clock
(So giving you auction timer that you can use Stunna as a suggestion.)
http://seanja.com/secret/countdown/ Something like that if you want to try and code your own for some reason used to use the onron onnit one but looks like they stopped using it and it leads to zombie bells.

Anyways here you go
PD3 in
