7161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Invest in Ethereum on: December 18, 2018, 12:42:17 AM
No idea if anyone here actualy trades ETH at least in the short term but I am looking at ETH breaking the $98-$100 resistance which is formed on the Coinbase/Bitmex charts.

It looks like it had a quadruple top there and $100 being a psychological level, its a good place to take a short. If the short fails to work and it closes higher then its a great place to take a long term long.
7162  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading is a zero sum game. on: December 18, 2018, 12:39:32 AM
He is correct. Trading especially futures or derivatives is mostly zero-sum.

If you got an 401K and you use it to buy stocks that you keep for 25 years then its not really zero-sum because due to inflation stocks generally usually go up in value.

However when you buy a derivative contract on Bitmex, someone has to sell you that contract. So basically one person will either have to cover with a loss or with a profit. The rest are the commissions that the brokerage or exchange gets.
7163  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Does buyer see my BTC wallet address on LocalBitcoins? on: December 18, 2018, 12:33:39 AM
I mean my BTC address.  We all know that BTC transactions are public viewable, so i don't want the buyer to see all transactions i made before with other people.

No because you are using a 3rd party wallet (localbitcoins) to make the transaction.

Basically you deposit BTC into your LBC wallet and those BTC are then forwarded to a cold storage address where LBC holds all their BTC. When you sell to someone and they withdraw, the BTC comes out of that wallet and its impossible to find out which deposit BTC was used.

If you sold your BTC to someone using wallets like Blockchain.info, Electrum, Copay, Bitcoin Core, then yes he would know exactly what your public balance is on that BTC address.
7164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Hawaii GPUs (R9 290/290X/390/295X2) Appreciation Thread on: December 18, 2018, 12:25:44 AM
I had 8 of these and had to RMA most of them due to attempts at repasting and also just GPU death in general
I've also had mostly bad experience with 290s. Had only 5 or 6 of them in total, and 2 or 3 went bad within a few months (all bought new). Haven't ever had such high failure rates with any other GPU series.

What were you mining with them? If you bought new, I am assuming it was late 2013 and you were mining Scrypt which was litecoin.

From what I recall, the R9 290 was a complete power-hog with Scrypt and if you ran with stock voltage they pulled 350-400Watts per GPU easily and due to poor heat control, they easily burnt up.
Also earlier there were not so simple risers as we have now. I burnt one R9 290x after incorrect connection of additional power to the riser. It cost a lot at the beginning of 2014.

Yes back then we had to use the ribbon risers.

I remember people had issues with the powered risers due to the +12V line being shared with the motherboards and the PSU +12V rail.

Basically you had to make sure the +12V lines were cut and weren't connected to the motherboard because if they were then you got a feedback loop because the motherboard +12V wasn't exactly the same as the +12V from the PSU, even if you used the same PSU. And it was a quick way to destroy a GPU, motherboard and a PSU.

7165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: broken GTX1080 fouders edition, parting out possible? on: December 18, 2018, 12:22:39 AM
How did it fail exactly?

Depending on what the issue is you might be able to fix it yourself. Does it hang the unit when Windows starts or when mining starts? If so you might just need to do a rehot on the GPU. Just google "gpu oven" and follow the instructions.

Since the GPU is dead already you might as well try this. Or just sell it on eBay and list it "AS-IS" and select the "Parts" section and state that its a broken GPU.
7166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Hard fork (constantinople) on 16th january 2019 on: December 17, 2018, 08:21:08 AM
Prices might go up after the fork but its not because of the issuance reduction, they will go up when it looks like the fork is succesful without issues like they had with the test net earlier.

If it was meant to go up due to the reduced supply then it would of rallied when it was announced that the block reward is getting reduced but instead nothing happened.

So the supply reduction is already priced in and won't have a reflection on price.
7167  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin going to be the best hedge in the upcoming financial crisis? on: December 17, 2018, 08:16:18 AM
I don't understand why everybody thinks there is going to be a recession just because the stock market has fallen close to the yearly open.

The economy is not in bad shape and the reason why the stock market has fallen so much is due to the FANG stocks which were over-valued to begin with. Every Tom, Dick and Harry was buying AAPL and Facebook they assumed it would keep going up forever and little did they realize that it was way over-valued as it was. No different than the Crypto bubble at the beginning of the year.
7168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is growing at nonstop rates in my country on: December 17, 2018, 08:08:30 AM
In my local casinos you don't find young people gambling, its usually the middle aged and people closer to their senior years. And they usually gamble by playing slots or Bingo which some might not even consider gambling since they clearly do it to kill time.

When there is a young person they are usually there to drink and smoke and usually quit playing after they end up losing $40 or so.

Like the above posters have said, which country are you from? There might be some tax incentives and that's why you see casinos and casino ads everywhere.
7169  Economy / Gambling / Re: Win a Lamborghini for 0.00056 BTC on: December 17, 2018, 08:03:43 AM
It's a nice idea, but I'm not really sure why a crypto player would do it. You're selling 900,000 EUR worth of tickets for a chance to win 650,000 EUR prize. While by itself, I'd say despite the huge house edge -- it's probably not terrible -- as you're just buying a bit of fun. However, the part that makes it really unappealing to me is there doesn't appear to be any effort to have a provably fair drawing. Which to me, seems like kind of an easy process: you publish a list of all the tickets, and then take a future bitcoin block hash % ticketNumber to determine the winner.
Oh come on mate, don't be so pretentious. We can win a lambo for just 2eur so why not? just imagine it! We wouldn't get bankrupt for just a small of eurs, don't we?

What do you really expect when you said this? 2 euro per tickets so there is no possible to have 1 tickets that can win those lambo, you need more than one ticket to win and when you spend more that means you already using more than one ticket so I do think the chance is really small to win this

And like I said before, there is no solid proof that he has that car, he should at least proof something here

He doesn't have the car, the car won't be bought until after the raffle is finished.

Go to the website: https://www.winalambo.net/

It basically says that it will be bought in your country up to 400K euros.

The way that regulations work in various countries it wouldn't make sense to buy one in Europe and have it shipped to USA where it might not pass regulations. Especially the emission regulations which are very strict in certain states like California.

7170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1070 dual the fan is not running properly? on: December 17, 2018, 07:51:34 AM
Anyway knows how to fix fan of gtx 1070 the fan looks spinning wiggle or shaking I have 1 GPU running with a higher temp because of this issue and even you set the Afterburner to low temp it still running at the higher temp.

I hope someone knows how to fix this the fan looks fine when I tried to spin it and I tried to reattach the fan still the same result.

It would help if you could state exactly which brand of GPU you are using?

I am just going to assume you got the Gigabyte Windforce model which has very horrible fans.

If the fan is wiggling it means the bearing is out. You can either send it in for warranty, buy a replacement fan on eBay or just fix the bearing issue yourself.

If you want to fix it, you need to pull the fan blade and lubricate the bearings inside and you should be good for the next 6 months or so. Try not to damage the fan when doing this.
7171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8-GPU rig in 4U rack case on: December 17, 2018, 07:48:05 AM
I bought a bunch of cheap 4U old server chassis cases last summer that I am still playing around with. Basically its the same dimensions as this.

The most GPUs I could fit without them being too close and with a regular sized PSU is 6 GPUs. I wouldn't be able to do 8 GPUs like the above unless I got a slimmer or an external PSU.

So this seems like a nice setup and well designed.
7172  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Forex Trading is Profitable? on: December 17, 2018, 12:24:13 AM
I've traded stocks, metals, oil markets, cryptos, interest rates, yields, bonds, etc and I found Forex trading to be the most difficult ones to make a profit in.

They are great because they are traded 24 hours so its good if you have a day-job and there is tons of leverage and tons of liquidity.

However they are by far the most difficult markets to make a profit in. They are basically zero-sum mostly and the whales know all the tricks the retail traders do to take away their account balances.

If it works for you, great. But the stock market and crypto markets are much easier to make a profit in when they are in a bull-market. With forex, whether its bull or bear, its difficult either way making money.
7173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: December 17, 2018, 12:19:30 AM
Its always risky jumping in and taking the plunge. I was scared to buy more GPUs back in Spring of 2016 because I was worried about the upcoming ETH POS transistion, the skyrocketing difficulty and the DAO hack which caused price to crash.

However in the end it was a great time to invest in the newer RX GPUs which paid for themselves over and over again.

Last Black Friday (Nov 2017) when the ETH price was low, there was a few GPUs on newegg which were below MSRP, and I almost ordered a few RX 570s but got scared and backed out last minute thinking Nov 2017 was the peak for ETH and ETH mining, and I've missed out on great profits.

The only time fairly recently that was a bad time to invest was basically Spring 2018 onwards, because in the Spring the GPUs were still overpriced and the profits quickly diminished month by month.

Remember this, you don't take the risk you don't reap the rewards.
7174  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Don't love any Alt coins. on: December 16, 2018, 09:26:03 AM
Trading alt coins is like a double-edged sword. They are great because in a bull market they can go up 100x or so. But in a bear-market they are bad because they can lose 99% of its value very quickly.

Many reasons for that, the most common one is lack of liquidity. Hence the reason why they go up so fast and why they come down so fast. BTC has many exchanges and lots of coins in circulation, so that's why it usually didn't go up as fast as some altcoins.
7175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A cryptocurrency entirely dedicated to GAMBLING? on: December 16, 2018, 09:21:53 AM
There was a coin a few years ago that I used to mine called Jackpot Coin. It was basically a regular coin like LTC but it had a unique feature where every few blocks there was a jackpot that kept growing and growing and eventually one lucky miner or pool would get the block reward, fees, and the jackpot. The jackpot was larger and larger if it took longer and longer to hit the winning block.

Another purpose of that coin was suppose to be that it would get used by casinos because it had almost free network blocks and fees. However long story short, the coin had a good period where it had a high price on Poloniex but then kept tanking and eventually went to 0 Sats and don't think any major casino used it.

And this is the same reason why a cryptocurrency devoted to gambling wouldn't really work since the value of the altcoin could fall in relation to BTC or USD and nobody would use it.
7176  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: which is easier 1-2% a day or 20-30% per month on: December 16, 2018, 01:37:05 AM
I've started trading in various markets over a decade ago, because I looked at the markets how they move hundreds of points everyday, I figured I am smart enough to make at least 1% daily. And let me tell you... its much easier to lose 1% daily than to make it... especially consistently.

I think you are better off trading the longer terms but you need to realize you won't make 20% unless you take significant risks. Trading now, especially in these bear markets is very difficult. The bull markets were easy but they don't last forever.

These markets are all zero-sum. For you to make money... someone has to lose it. And it will most likely be you.
7177  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin & Ethereum Drop 3% on: December 16, 2018, 01:33:40 AM
It seems that everytime that the yearly low is broken, it falls less and less and usually is followed by a huge bounce.

I am thinking that with all the bullish divergences and oversold condition we might have a temporarily bottom for now. It doesn't look like there is too many sellers at these areas.

Last night someone on Bitmex was doing massive shorting trying to break the daily low and when it broke there was no follow-thru and tried to break the following low a few times and failed followed by a rally. This is looking like seller exhaustion and I took a small low leveraged long here.
7178  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big advice on how to invest with BTC on: December 16, 2018, 01:30:04 AM
A good option would be something like Electrum used as cold storage.

Basically all you need is a second computer which is never online, so an old laptop would work and you would have a watching only wallet on your main computer.

This is pretty much almost always available since you can download the software at any time and most people have spare computers laying around in their basements.
7179  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin bottom could be around the corner ! interesting chart ! on: December 14, 2018, 11:34:53 PM
Judging by the open interest change today it seems that the selling is drying up and the path of least resistance is on the upside at least temporarily.

Look at the open interest and how it changed when we hit the new lows. Yesterday the OI actually increased during the break because it looks like the OI decreased during the short squeeze up till $3300 area.

Today we had the lows tested again and very little open interest change, only when we got that $100 spike upwards did it decrease which was the shorts covering.
7180  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔶 YOLOdice.com 🔶 play & invest - BTC - LTC - ETH - DOGE on: December 13, 2018, 07:05:50 AM
Litecoin Action  Cool Cool Cool

I've been studying his strategy and it doesn't seem like a smart way to gamble, basically very risky martingale.

Seems on a win, they increase their base bet a little.

However on a loss they decrease by a similiar amount, however in the photo above they only had 2 consecutive losses.

The problem is that when you are betting with 80% its very very common to run into 4-5 losses consecutivately in a row and say they had a few 10+ wins in a row, they will be betting a very large amount, and if they run into 4-5 losses in a row, they will be also betting those large amounts and end up with huge losses in less bets than the prior wins that they had.

I guess if it works for them, then its good however it seems that it only works if you have a poor performance at the start of the round and your luck changes towards the end.
