7181  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread aug 23rd to sept 5th. Picks are open . on: August 26, 2015, 10:01:04 AM
http://nextdifficulty.com/ is showing a little less on change, antpool luck could have some to do with it though:
Conservative: 2.3% 3% Continous: 5.1 %

Price is around 222 so not horrible there.
7182  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread aug 23rd to sept 5th. Picks are open . on: August 25, 2015, 10:38:47 PM
Price is over 220 again.  Nice to have a little was above 200.   Hopefully 250 by next few changes.

200 is just pretty hard to keep mining myself at.  If that became the norm I would have to find a new place for my older gear, I could still host new gear.

my winter prices are coming soon.. 13.3 but the heat is worth 3.3 so 10 cents net.

at ten cents and 217 usd  the s-5 works

I'm looking foward to winter.  I will be able to turn off a few fan's and use the cold air.   Not a huge savings but still some savingss.

I chances are will leave 2 big fan's on and exhaust fan, that and winter I should be set.   I am honestly surprised I made it through summer mining.  But happy I did it.
7183  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is cloud mining actually genuine on: August 25, 2015, 10:36:21 PM
I'm looking at all of the main cloud mining sites and most of which have fallen, will fall or are ponzis, so my question is, does cloud mining actually exist?

Yes it does exist.

Now you need ask yourself can I make money on it?  maybe yes maybe no

How much can I afford to lose?

As for my pick for you  buy a little bit from bitmaintech.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1151727.0;all

I have 9.99 btc and that got me 15th  I have been paid back about 1.355 btc.

If I continue to be paid back my 9.99btc should grow to 10.4 btc  as you can see not a big profit.

Still though a little income from passive is pretty nice.   Compare that to a savings account you will make less interest then cost of living increase.

So .4 may seem small but compared to traditional it is a pretty good passive income.
7184  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginner wants some feedback! on: August 25, 2015, 10:17:39 PM
Depends on your goal.  If you buy bitcoin and have cold storage and store it away I think you will make money.

Only thing is I think it is a long term investment.  Some such as mining or other cloud are shorter term investments.   So pick one you are happy with.
7185  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: August 25, 2015, 10:15:46 PM
Cloud mining is a service offered by companies who have the power to mine in great numbers. They offer a 'share' of this mining power to their customers which in turn give them profits (not profitable, imho) over some time. There are some legit sites that offer cloud mining power, but there are also scam sites out there that only offers cloud mining services for a couple of weeks and run away with their investors' money.
Thanks to this information. It helps a lot on me.

Is it really worthy to go for Cloud Minning. I have deposited before in Hash profit site it gave me what i invested but after some days i saw the message that their site got hacked and then after some months they stopped the site and ran away . I was lucky that my investment got returned .
so my question is it really worthy to go for cloud minning or any other method is their for minning.

Can not talk about others. But, it is true that www.CloudMining.website is still paying even after nine months. Here is today's payout that they just paid...

https://blockchain.info/tx/0a5486e2e900a2e71940f8b3cf2fb647a4ee857f5a386ea20fb1a795914181c5

Haters gonna hate. But, that does not change the fact that CMW is now one of the best cloud miner out there.

I will ask the question I have asked many times and not got an anwser.  What brand of gear are you using?   Will the company vouch you have X amount of gear?

You would impress me if you can do that.   Payments are easy to do having a company say you have X amount of miners I personally think is harder.  And yes I know my sig I will be told it's because of it, but it's my own thoughts.

7187  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has something happened to antpool? on: August 25, 2015, 10:08:53 PM
This is one reason I like owning the gear.  I can use antpool at PPS.  So find a block or not I still get paid.

The current luck for pool is like 54 percent - https://www.antpool.com/poolStats.htm .  So it does happen on dry spells but normally antpool is so big it does not hit that bad.   So makes me wonder what happened.
7188  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is cloud mining actually genuine on: August 25, 2015, 10:05:40 PM
Depends on the site sadly a LOT of cloud mining is just a scam.  I like to ask what machines are powering it you will find most ponzi's will not discuss machines.

But do your own research and make up your own mind.   I personally have 2 I have invested small amounts in.  Vast majority just don't provide any info.
7189  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: C1 - One working perfectly and one as parts - Possibly looking to sell on: August 25, 2015, 10:03:45 PM
If you end up selling separately,I would love to buy that C1 controller. I'd like to tweak it and find out what data-lines of pic it uses. For sobe-it:you can solder pic from S1 controller to S3 controller.

I don't have a problem selling separately.  I just want to get the perfect one sold first.  As if it does not sell I will keep other one for parts.

Controller and other parts since bitmain does not have them are nice to have.  So far all have been very low ball offers on working one though.
7190  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying first Bitcoin in 2015, still extremely frustrating.. on: August 25, 2015, 03:41:50 PM
Thanks for the reply. I'm from Ireland. Most online entities bundle us in with UK.

I've been looking into Kraken and Cex.io today. Both are processing my application at the moment.
Cex.io wanted a scan of my passport, a photo of me holding my passport, and a scan of a recent bill!

Yea forget about circle in your case.  Sadly exchanges because of laws are very based on country and even to state level in some cases.

Focusing on one that works better with your region will do a world of differences.  You will be buying easy and fast once it is set up with a good exchange there.
7191  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AntMiner S5 Firmware Update on: August 25, 2015, 03:38:28 PM
NICEHASH S5 FIRMWARE--

The mining site NiceHash "www.nicehash.com" has a firmware for the S5 that includes an upgrade to CGminer 4.9 with extranonce control.  I have downloaded it, but I have not flashed it.  I do not know what version of Antminer S5 firmware the CGminer mod is coupled with.  Here is the link:

https://www.nicehash.com/download/AntMiner-S5-SD-firmware_cgminer_4.9.0_nicehash_and_performance_graph.tar.gz

Has anyone tried this firmware?  It is packaged in an archive, just like the official updates.  I'd like to know if anyone has used it, and the results.

Thanks for any information or opinions!       --scryptr

Yes people have tried it.  I personally have not done my S5 as if flash is bad you are stuck with a miner with not official firmware on it.

I have used S4 and C1 versions, and had no issues but only used them temporarily.  But yes there is a small risk with any flash no matter what it is.
7192  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: August 25, 2015, 03:36:02 PM
I've got 10 S1's, 12 S3's, 22 C1's and they all need to be upgraded.
Hint hint.

Am I missing the hint?  Are you hinting on product coming out?
7193  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 25, 2015, 03:34:42 PM
I plan to have a working prototype of a multi-chip full board, not a stick.

I'm not sure yet how the protocol changes, but that's software-level. Node-level voltages change, inter-node level shifters change, no 0.9V LDO required per node, fewer bypass caps per chip required. The footprint is also quite different (and quite better, my opinion). If your question is "can you use the same PCB and drop the new chip on it" the answer is "definitely not". But the required changes aren't that big.

I would love to see you come out with some boards.   Your thumb stick miner works great, love the feeling that it's from a growing company made out of this site.

I hope to see you one day have your own models and hopefully range of products Smiley.  I would love a nice blade if price is right.
7194  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has something happened to antpool? on: August 25, 2015, 03:31:35 PM
It looks like they are still getting them on - https://www.antpool.com/poolStats.htm  I could be wrong but I think that is today's date.  Had my time off they are not showing blocks for a good period this is odd.

It is interesting that if you look they lost around 5 PH in a day on last block shown.  That could be temporary.  But that is a lot to lose to variance.

that is 9 hours and 17 minutes ago.

You are correct sorry about that I am wrong.  I can say I have PPS on that pool on some miners and it's still getting paid.

Is anyone based on blocks still getting payment showing it going up?

Maybe they are installing a bunch of new miners in S5 slots... hard to say why that would effect pool though.  Should be seperate.

7197  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying first Bitcoin in 2015, still extremely frustrating.. on: August 25, 2015, 01:14:45 PM
Having tried and failed to buy Bitcoin a couple of years ago, I decided to have another look recently, in the hopes that things had gotten more user friendly. I've tried to buy bitcoins on different services over the last couple of days and I'm about ready to give up.

I tried linking my VISA card to my new Circle account and it keeps giving me an error message about my address, even the main support page is giving an error message  Huh

I tried signing up with Coinbase. I verified my phone ... I uploaded a scan of my Passport .. and still ... I get a page with some bank details and NO INSTRUCTIONS other than the words "SEPA TRANSFER". It's not clear how much I'm supposed to deposit, and how, and either way, I've never made a SEPA transfer in my life, and apparently my local online banking system doesn't support it.

I signed up with bitcoin.de and went through the usual steps. This time, they sent a small payment to my bank account, and I'm supposed to be verifying with an 8 digit code that begins with "a" and ends with "z" ... but such reference is nowhere to be seen on my Bank Statement.

Desperate, I managed to buy bitcoin via Paypal>Linden>BC through Virwox, turning 10 euro into less than 7 euro worth of Bitcoin.... F M L

If Bitcoin is ever to be widely adopted it surely must become easier to get involved. I have Paypal & Credit Card sitting here, ready to BUY ... and have hit roadblock after roadblock everywhere I've tried.

Can anyone help me? Is there somewhere out there with a straightforward signup process?

What country are you from?  You will find your country greatly influences what exchange you should use.

Once you get one working it's as easy as switching sending money to bank account, then from there buy btc.  But you have to find proper exchange for you.
7198  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BIP100 surpasses BIP101 in one day with 10% of the last 24hr blocks on: August 25, 2015, 01:11:17 PM
One thing that's peculiar about the ones signing "BIP100" is that BIP100 actually proposes (loosely, admittedly - and the details have a mathematical incompleteness without explanation) a voting mechanism using "/BVsizeinbytes/" where the exact size is specified in their vote.

So it almost seems more like an anti-vote ("we specifically don't want BIP101") than a vote for a particular size.

I am kind of on page with your take on it.

To me going from 1mb to 8mb  is too much.

This  proposal seems to allow for us to vote in 2mb or 3mb or anything up to 32mb.

I really push for 2mb just to see what happens.  Not radical change but some change.

I think were on the same page. I think radical change is not needed.   Something such as XT really is radical and I think lowering prices.

I think we need to go to up a bit but not sure on exact amount.   I do want them to do it enough we are not doing this again in 6 months or even a year.  But hopefully still not a radical change.

Hi everyone,

My name is Ashley. I have been trading many types of ecurrency including bitcoin for ~5 years. I have a masters degree in economics as well. I would love to offer any support for beginners who have questions about anything bitcoin related. Please always make sure you use 2 factor and use secure passwords. Don't get involved in scams and if it sounds too good to be true RUN!

Yours Truly,

-Ashley

Hello Ashley, wow looks like you're expert in trading. Any tips or anything which can earn profit from bitcoin trading?

You're right about the security and don't get involved in scam scheme. Maybe this thread will help out for the security: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=203876.0

Best security is use a cold wallet.  I personally would make a clean install of OS with just malware/virus software.   No surfing on computer visiting sites etc.  Run virus and malware software once even though fresh install.

Now make a cold wallet.  It is your choice how to do this.     Or even look into hardware wallets.

But if went with cold wallet blow it all away after making a few copies in safe places.  Now reinstall and don't load cold storage until you need it. Keep some in a semi-safe hot wallet for spending.
7200  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: August 25, 2015, 12:50:17 PM
I recently shipped my SFARDS to a fellow forum member who will be doing a full tear down and write up on it for the community. When he is done he will ship the miner back to me so stand by for more info on the ins and outs of the hardware and the software interface

I agree I think most units produced went for internal use or a private buyer they probably shipped a hand full to resellers just to prove the miner is real but at its efficiency they didn't do a public release since they are the highest in efficiency for both SHA256 and almost in scrpyt right now I think Titans still are higher

Can we know who will be doing the tear down?   Excited to hear we will be seeing the insides.

And yes we don't really know what release was they are just too quiet.   We know someone got units.... just not sure if internal or one big buyer.
