7181  Other / Off-topic / John Titor and Bitcoin on: April 23, 2014, 12:35:48 PM
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor

Lets take a look what the wikibeast says about our most famous time traveller.

The following quote is taken from the "Predictive failures" section.

Quote
One of Titor's earliest assertions was that CERN would discover the basis for time travel sometime around 2001, with the creation of miniature black holes about half a year after his departure. This did not occur.

Now if I recall correctly the scare that CERN was going to make mini-black holes and destroy the earth was all the rage in the media back in 2001. A decade later the earth was still in one piece and CERN found the god particle.

The next quote is from the "Problems with the story" section.

Quote
The internal consistency of Titor's story has been questioned: for instance, in some posts he claims that money is widely used and people still have credit cards, despite his statement that centralized banking no longer exists

Bitcoin.

Conclusion:
whoever wrote this article fails at predictive failing and has problems with problems.

Suggestions:
Try debunking an easier subjects first then after you've built up a solid foundation of debunking tools and skills go to work on bigger subjects. You're trying to run before you can walk son!

Since the OP used the term "world" and not "earth" I'd venture to guess that it's a sociological question.

Looking back in time we can see the rise and fall of civilizations. The world has ended many many times in the past.

Bitcoin can help end this scam.

7185  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is the "empty space" in an atom? on: April 22, 2014, 12:41:09 PM
Try thinking of it backwards, that space is a super-dense liquid crystal under maximum pressure and that matter is a dynamic area of lower pressure. With the pressure of the entire universe pushing on it one can easily see how a little atom can have so much potential energy and yet be mostly "empty space".

I hope this makes some sense. Now where did I put my tin-foil hat...

Conservation of energy doesn't mean turning out the lights to save on your power bill.

Ok, lets take a look.

This article needs additional citations for verification.

Unverified eh, lets give it a chance...

In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system cannot change—it is said to be conserved over time.

No system is isolated, that's an idealized concept.

Conclusion: the black hole at the centre of the galaxy is the ultimate source of power and turning out the lights will in fact save you money on your power bills.

What is trolling?

Trolling is the act of sowing discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Taken in part from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

Quote
How is it defined?

Troll is defined as penis mass times hand velocity squared.

Are you a troll?

No, I have sex with beautiful women every day.

Some clever miner has already added viral signatures to their "coinbase-sig". When your 5 1/4" floppy drive stops working on the 30th of each month now you know why!

Many Bitcoins have also passed though Silk Road and contain trace amounts of cocaine.  Tongue
7190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Coin Concept: proof of work in fix time (defeating ASIC) on: April 22, 2014, 08:48:22 AM
Scrypt-N coins, Scrypt-Jane coins, Primecoin, Quarkcoin, Protoshares and more all defeat ASICs, what makes this better/different?

Do we really need another $#!+ coin?

"Prometheus (aka WPN-114) was the oldest known non-clonal organism, a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) tree growing near the tree line on Wheeler Peak in eastern Nevada, United States. The tree, which was at least 4862 years old and possibly more than 5000, was cut down in 1964 by a graduate student and United States Forest Service personnel for research purposes."

Who will be the first person to die for bitcoin, and how?

The question isn't who or how but whether he'll be drinking a desert-like coffee beverage when it happens.

i didn't see a single mention of tesla in that long rant. the linguistical equivalent of a box of styrofoam peanuts; lots of bulk but not much weight.

without tesla there would be no mad scientist.
