7181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Winter Is Coming, Warns Experts on: July 10, 2021, 02:44:36 PM
We did not had a lot of institutions or institutional investors buying bitcoin, and the few that we had have been saying they are still holding their coins, I am not really sure this is the case of Elon as I doubt he would say the things he said about bitcoin while at the same time he held a huge amount of those coins, doing something like that will be foolish, so I think he actually sold his coins some time ago, but besides him it seems the other institutional investors are still holding or even bought more coins.

I've always personally believed we've been having institutional money in Bitcoin since 2016. This was when I first noticed OTC brokers get heavy business in Bitcoin (and only institutionals, like family offices and hedge funds, use OTC brokers). This was also when all the crypto funds set up, and their investors are anything but retail.

It's only what you see and read in the news now, that's getting a lot of attention, because of the size and prominence. But there's still silent, old money, coming into Bitcoin, all happening off-chain.
7182  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-08] The search for HDD worth $378 million at the landfill will continue on: July 10, 2021, 01:19:57 PM
Going to have to say it's a lost cause. I've even had HDDs stored and still have environmental damage (mold, heat, dust, etc.), never mind one that's gone through all kinds of rough and tumble treatment. I think moisture would be the hardest thing to avoid and that alone, all those years sitting out there, I really can't see how any data would be recoverable.

Suppose those hedge fund people don't mind wasting a couple of million on this risky move.

P.S. I have a similar story, disposing wallets of shitcoins in spring cleaning in 2017. Then alt spring came and I cried for all the lost coins. Except I deleted files rather than throw physical storage.
7183  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Games that still pay Bitcoin? on: July 10, 2021, 10:04:58 AM
The only faucet still worth doing to me is Freebitco.in but you probably know that. I actually commute almost daily, so I do a couple of runs or so on the faucet daily, occasionally something big comes out of it.

But there are definitely still casino games that pay out in Bitcoin -- you'd have to be of a certain level (wagering usually gets you there). Bitvest, for example, still has those quests, same as Stake I believe, and then there are challenges at Crypto.games... basically just daily games you play, either for free or with real crypto, and the rewards are paid out, usually to a high +EV.

7185  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-09] Russia Drafting Law on Confiscation of Crypto Assets on: July 10, 2021, 08:07:41 AM
I can see it now. Any seized assets by Russia to be dust-sprayed by tainters. I thought the Bitcoin fungibility issue was done and dusted? Even Marathon Miner's given up trying to censor Bitcoin transactions deemed to be non-compliant with US regulations. If an "OFAC compliant" miner realises the futility of it all, pretty sure a state will arrive at the same conclusion more quickly.
7186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin spinoffs devalue Bitcoin over the long term? on: July 10, 2021, 06:52:34 AM
One of the forks you mentioned was actually a fork of a fork (SV forked off Cash), so we know just how ridiculous the notion was that these forks happened to "preserve" values or ideals.

I don't think it's just scalability that makes their approach different (but isn't scalability how most coins anyway primarily choose to differ?). Some made important changes to consensus algorithm I believe.

But multiplying Bitcoin supply? That's nonsense:) And we DO have 10 spinoffs... much, much more. There's nothing preventing a hundred or thousand more. That doesn't dilute Bitcoin. If anything, the existence and subsequent failures of all these forks substantiate the value of Bitcoin.
7187  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Volatility Indicator on: July 10, 2021, 05:47:02 AM
Woah, this is another great tool. I can use this to identify which hours are more volatile, but it's difficult if it will do the same on the next day, like today, around 10 am - 1 pm less volatile, then tomorrow there's also a possibility that it will be the same.

Hey I learn something new myself. Would probably need to do your own tracking, feeding off this data here for a period of time before identifying if the pattern is repeatable and if so, consistently or not. My guess is that there are long periods where volatility is of a repeatable pattern until something else in the market disrupts that. The past couple of months would appear ideal for such a pattern, but that could quickly change if sentiment changes drastically.

^ There's bound to be fans at the final, whether they let them in or not haha! Funny thing now I'm reading about a LOT of Brazilians apparently rooting for Argentina -- normally it's so strange, much as I have so many complaints against my country, can't see myself not supporting it. I do get it though, a lot of anger from Brazilians towards their own country, hosting Copa with all the problems going on right now.

Who's staying up for Argentina Brazil? Wish I were but have been ill past two days.
7189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io "Soccer Blackjack" @ 21.00 odds on: July 10, 2021, 04:41:34 AM
Took the bet, just woke up and checked Colombia won with a last minute goal. 3-2, as I expected, a high-scoring game (3rd placed match nothing to lose). Got the final coming up in about 20 hours, will that be the next Blackjack before EURO final tomorrow?Wink

Final score:
Goals: 5
Yellow cards: 5
Corners: 8
18 and it's a push
7190  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sportsbet.io - Customer just placed a $1,000,000 USDT bet on England!! on: July 09, 2021, 02:24:23 PM
Setting up to be a huge Sunday all around! Wimbledon, two cup finals (Copa and EURO), and then in just little over a week, we head for Olympics! Bet you going to be loads of specials dropping.

Live audience seems really cool, be curious to see how that looks like. See you all at ClubTalk. The AMAs are so popular almost impossible to keep up, more of the same please;)
7191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ COPA America ⚽ Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: July 09, 2021, 11:26:13 AM
Colombia 19/10 a good pick tonight? Could be 2/1 with a boost later on? Or am I just fantasising. 3rd placed games usually very exciting, at least in my memory. Nothing to lose left =)

Another suggestion that could be used:
1st to get yellow card
1st to get corner
1st to use sub
1st to offside
Last to offisde
Last to use sub
Last to get yellow card
Last to get corner

Or, make it a race: 1st to 3 corners, 2 yellow, 2 subs, 2 offsides.

With a tiebreaker of pick minute of 1st corner/card?

Saw that I put the wrong game in yesterday's pick (Beijing Guoan, I actually picked City) but all for naught as both MLS games played to a draw (boring!).

I'm going to be stubborn and once more pick Evergrande in AFC Champions League. Remember, they lost 0-1 and DREW the last two times we backed them. Perhaps now against a Thai team in 3rd place, they can pull off the upset?

100 units at Sportsbet on Evergrande to WIN vs Port FC @12.55. Other odds: 11.90

7193  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Europa Conference League Discussion Thread on: July 09, 2021, 06:10:07 AM
So we had THIRTY games last night, and I stupidly bet on some that I've been familiar with (and may have mentioned earlier are the ones I'm looking at). They've brought me some small joy in their domestic leagues but I guess here is where they see just how far they've come in a new competition against champions from other similar leagues (in terms of coefficients).

My picks from yesterday and their results:
Batumi (won 4-0)
Ararat (drew 1-1)
Slask Wroclaw (won 2-1)
Noah (won 1-0)

I love them Caucascus teams =p

Ah, missed this one, even though it seems it went live not too long ago. Strangely enough, I have been betting on the AFC Champions League, and the current match is in one of my parlays! Matches here aren't too bad for quality once you get past the qualifications, just really tough to find the streams.

Too bad for me, but good luck to the rest of you!

7196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 08, 2021, 01:33:04 PM
A lot of things have been said about the penalty yesterday, I have to agree with the most saying it wasn't one. I looked at it again a few times this morning, the contact is there but it is minimal.
The referee gave it immediately and I knew that VAR would not overturn it but it was a mistake not telling him he needs to see for himself.

England was much better and deserved to go through to the final though - but it will be hard to take for the Danes.

The softest one I have seen in this tournament for sure. England was my pick anyway but they couldn't win it in extra time so they still screwed me as did Italy haha. Oh well.

But they were still slightly better I would say and you cannot say either finalist doesn't deserve being there.. though the same could have been said of Denmark and Spain.

Just praying Italy go back to attack in final. And Southgate too. I know he won't though. Not after coming so far.
7197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin might not officially be on a bear market on: July 08, 2021, 12:24:53 PM
Elon Musk appears to be silent to avoid further losses on Tesla’s bitcoin investment and there might not be anymore moves on Tether from the government this year. Let us hope that this is the beginning of another long and large pump!
He is silent because effectiveness of his tweets ended basically the first week that he started FUDing bitcoin. Then the Chinese FUD began and he was happy thinking his FUD succeeded but as bitcoin price reached its bottom and didn't go any lower he decided not to insist on the  FUD anymore. It is also because he didn't think Doge could also dump hard as bitcoin started going down so when he was FUDing bitcoin while hyping DOGE it was actually dumping on him.

Too complex for him to understand how crypto works (that every alt relies heavily on the fortunes of Bitcoin) and he already has his reputation battered so yeah, beat course of action now is to lie low and rough out this not-bitcoin-market-bear-after-all.

@philipma indeed it has been a surprisingly stable miner's market from what I am hearing even in parts of SE Asia where it's not the most efficient. This China exodus has given unexpected breathing room for amateur enthusiasts. Sounss like good news to me.
7198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do many mainstream economists always oppose Bitcoin? on: July 08, 2021, 10:01:05 AM
Remember. Every discipline has its disciples and every school of thought can be found. Economists aren't a bunch of people just siding with one ideal or other.

And the media probably isn't going to sit around and wait for pro Bitcoiners to reach out for an interview.

Most of what you read is directed media. Media got to eat too so they find opposing thoughts. Makes for better readership.

Think you'll find more plurality in universities teaching economics. Maybe not even more Bitcoin enthusiasts but even crazier guys!
7199  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +64894 units on: July 08, 2021, 08:15:43 AM
That actually was a really close game... he did win 3:0 but the first set was "only" 6-3 so we missed a nice 30/1 shot by just 1 game. Too bad!

Taking a live bet now in China and mixing it up with American games plus a friendly. I know. Terrible combination but while waiting for things to happen;)
