I replaced my Batch 2 PSU with a 1300W EVGA and its made zero difference to the hash rate.

Thank you for the reply, I'll hold off for now.  Appreciate it.

you might check your thermal grease. if its dried out or non-existent you may be getting increased errors - its something im looking into.

Let me know if you find out anything, re: thermal grease.  Do we know of a way to monitor individual chip hash rate via SSH?  If I could narrow it down to a specific blade, I would happily reapply thermal paste.

Most psu can run over spec 10-20% for awhile, I dont know about the build quality of Enermax, maybe thats why they dont ship as complete units anymore.

Corsair and Seasonic Plats are pretty good.

I'm thinking about a Corsair 1300, but would hate to drop the cash if it won't really "buy" me anything.  That said, what are the odds the upgrade blades BM has referred to will come it at lesser wattage?

I'll probably just bite the bullet and replace the PSU, my S2 slowly works down to 970 GH/s, even though only 4 chips are showing as disabled.  I'm guessing my PSU is acting up.
724  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: June 04, 2014, 04:32:38 PM
1000w is clearly NOT ENOUGH and anyone who hasnt upgraded is losing GH by the second.

......

anyway - ive learnt that they need more power for a fact and i will be lucky if the ever helpful bitmain can sort me out
My batch 4 S2 is running quite happily at 1005 GH/s on the original 1000W PSU, (1086W at the wall).  Not sure where you're getting your facts.

How long can that PSU run overspec?  That it's running fine now is great, but how long will it do that?  I'm not being confrontational, I'm an owner of an S2 and am curious.

...better than early Batch 4 with 10 cards by quite a long way

not as good as batch 3 with 10 cards.

the batch 4 seems to dwindledown to around 850 .  i did ask about this on another thread.

anyone experienced a dwindledown rig??
I must admit that mine has done that from time to time and I've not figured out why exactly. Sometimes I found it was leaking shares to my backup pool and other times I found pulling and reinserting the cards helped. I also found that the gui would sometimes report a different hashrate to the pool and I think that was due to the ntp going out of whack or something, try clicking Save&Apply in the Miner config and see if it starts cgminer with the full hashrate.

I assume this is an issue with the PSU, but I'm not an EE.  Has anyone seen this problem after upgrading their PSU to 1200-1300?
726  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: June 03, 2014, 11:33:17 PM
To Micro Center! (love that place)  It says 240V on it, so I assume its a foreign plug. Thanks for those who helped.
Better check the PSU for a 110/240 switch on it. Make sure its set correctly before plugging it in.

There's no switch.
And this cable does not fit in England and other  EU countries.

Didn't we decide it was Aussie as some point?  Either way, a heavy gauge replacement that fits your outlet will pop in and you'll be on your way.

So BM sent me a new card to replace the card that was half x's, but I'm still seeing my S2 hashrate slowly drop over the course of 12-24 hours.  Reboots and config changes show random, scattered x's across various boards, although they always show all o's after I reset the PSU.

Do I need to break down and upgrade the PSU to a 1200-1300 Watt output?  I'm open to all suggestions!

Well, yeah.. it's a bit dicey isn't it. At 206mhz the machine's stable. That's where I'm at right now. I get a large number of rejected/stale shares (~2.5%), but that still provides for a better overall hashrate than 196 or 200.

At 212 the machine will run for about an hour, maybe two, then shut down, presumably because the PSU can't handle it. I've tried repeatedly to get it to run continually, but eventually it always goes kaput..

In the end I'll probably just end up upgrading PSUs, because I know the chips can take it. Temps are not an issue regardless of speed - always below 60. I figure that anything below 75 is safe, so there's lots of headspace.

You'll find a list of frequency codes on this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589429.0;all

Hope this helps & good luck. Smiley

Cheers for this link, I appreciate it.  I'm going to bring in a second PSU over the weekend and split the PCI-cables, we'll see how well it works out!

It's just the temp sensor, you have all ten cards hashing according to this screen.  Did you upgrade your power supply?

Thanks.. quite a relief.

No, I didn't upgrade. Still running the stock Enermax Revolution87+. Most PSUs will do a little over their specification. It's still the limiting factor on this machine, though. I tried to push it a little further, and while the asics could handle the extra load, the PSU couldn't.

What frequency did you finally decide on? I'm poking on the numbers this weekend and would welcome the input!

Hey guys, is the temp sensor just broken on chain 4 of this S2 or is one of my cards not hashing?

I'm getting 1050 GH/s @ 206mhz.. does that sound about right?

My new S2 is generating only 800 GH/s. Are two "chains" dead? Should I open the box and check if the boards are properly connected?

Yes, you are missing two cards.  Open the device and carefully remove and reseat all ten boards.

Let us know how it looks.

I went ahead and opened the device. Two cards were completely loose and couple were not seated all the way. I made sure all the cards were seated properly. The work on heatsinks was quite rough and the heat sinks have sharp edges. I cut my finger and couple of drops of blood dropped on one of the boards. I wiped the blood off with a tissue and reassembled the device. The sacrifice of virgin blood seemed to work and now all 10 boards are hashing, and I am getting 1 TH/s. Cheesy

Well done!  A little blood never hurt anything, to be sure.

What's the deal with people happily snatching up S2's that will never ROI?

If you buy the S2 for 3.769 bitcoins you'll ROI sometime around summer 2015 without factoring in electricity

Who is buying these fucking things?

I'm using mine to build a robot, I assumed that's what we were all doing....
Robot.  Hadn't thought of that.  I'm just using mine to generate heat and noise.
Oh, the robot generates plenty of heat and noise, it just does that while destroying buildings and stealing pretty ladies.

I just tried using the web interface to reboot (after re-entering net and miner config) and same thing - factory defaults on boot - (and the time before rebooted then shutdown with cli)

its the stock config - so I havent replaced the micro sd card

the S2 is working fine - so its just mildly annoying - but if the power goes out etc - it will be offline until I reenter the config
(even the miner config settings are not saved)

Its a new batch-4 S2 - so I wonder if thats the way they are shipping now to prevent sd corruption (or something)

This is not normal behaviour - suggest you download a new image & reflash a class 10 microSD card & try again. I have the same batch as you & don't suffer with your problems - could be corrupted.

Agreed.  In your position I would try this.
737  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: May 30, 2014, 12:43:58 PM

anyone else noticed (maybe all do this) - when you reboot it goes back to factory defaults ?

I used the "shutdown now -h" command at the cmd line in ssh and it shut down gracefully - but after moving it and powering back up - I had to reenter my network and miner configuration settings (also cant change web gui password)

other than that its working great

I have not experienced that problem.  Have you used the web interface to "reboot" the device after making your configuration changes at least once?  I use "shutdown -h now" to power my box down and it's always held my configuration--but I'm not positive when the configuration gets written.

Try setting the config, then rebooting, then power down via the CLI and see if it saves your settings that way.  If it doesn't, perhaps your SD card is read only.  Did you replace it?
738  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.419 BTC for 180GH/s on: May 29, 2014, 10:42:12 PM
I recently bought an Antminer S1 but it has a poor wifi signal even with an antenna attached.

It's exceptionally poor wifi because I have another Antminer directly beside it and that Antminer receives an adequate signal

Is this issue common?  Is there a fix?
Out of the last eight S1's that I received, two of them can see the wifi but cannot connect once they are setup.  I have a total of ten on wifi at the moment, the rest are using TP ethernet.  I have tried reflashing the firmware, but the wifi on those two machines just wont work.

Why dont you switch the ones on Ethernet with the ones that wont work on wifi and put the old ethernet ones on wi fi. Unless you really want to go through rma.
I was just answering the question about the wifi problems.  I have already rotated miners to where they work best.

I ran out of power ports in the front of the warehouse and had to setup the others in the back temporarily with wifi until I can finish adding the power drops I need for all of the miners in the front.

I have sourced replacement 15 CM wireless cables with a straight SMA jack with a male pin that can be used to replace the existing cable, and have a cheap kit that includes a 2dB wifi antenna that will get the job done.  I've got 50 of them available, so feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll toss one in the mail for US residents @ US$10 a pop.

Hey dogie, you running the stock PSU on that 23 day uptime, or did you upgrade first?

Cheers.

Edit: I do already have a working replacement S2 firmware I've made with fixes and and current cgminer but I'm still in discussion with bitmain directly trying to get the SPI driver code so I can fix that also.
My BlackArrow Prospero SPI driver can do > 3TH/s when it maxes out CPU on an RPi ... it's a pity that the S2 maxes out CPU on a faster BeagleBone Black below 1TH/s ...

Thanks for the effort, Kano.  I look forward to an updated firmware for the S2, and will allocate some funds your direction when it becomes available.

Cheers.
