721  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New Pool with high Pay outs on: July 03, 2011, 05:33:57 AM
Nobody from 28.6 or before has enough hashrate to be in top 3 except 6990er.
Almost all of the current rate comes from new miners.

So there is in fact only 1 bonus possible in the entire pool. 0 if masterminer gains enough shares because then nobody in the top 3 are eligible.

You can actually run more than 8 GPU's with a modified Linux but it's unstable and not feasible for real world usage due to constant crashes.

People on the FASTRAN project managed as much as 13 gpu's on one system (using some duals obviously as well)

You could always try http://www.bitcoincharts.com. It's not exactly light but it displays all relevant markets.

It displays adequately on my Nokia N8 so I'd think a faster phone with Android or iPhone OS would be even better.
724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Warning] People with MtGox on: July 03, 2011, 02:47:47 AM
That was just an example I made up on the spot. I hope nobody is dumb enough to actually use something that can be found with Google.

You can construct a similar pass with any combination of symbols
725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Warning] People with MtGox on: July 03, 2011, 02:12:03 AM
password changed from "password" to "passwerrrrrrd".

There are ways to bruteforce all combinations with repeats up to 16 letters relatively fast.
So if your pass is something like "paaaaaaaaaaaasword" or "passwwwwwword", it's not safer just because you entered a bunch of letters.
Repeating the same word twice or multiple times is also one of the easiest ways to get your pass cracked as well (footballfootballfootball is not a safe pass)

What you need to do is use completely unique, altering-case letters and numbers & special characters each occurring no more than once.

Example of a safe 25 char. password would be 4gD_7´%jU1Q#}!5Lv=¤*h^8~¨

About 20 to 30 characters should be safe forever, the harder it is to remember the better. Don't use sequential symbols, numbers or characters.

Don't use words in a standard dictionary of any language no matter how cleverly disguised with stretched vocals or 1337-speak replacement of letters with numbers.

Their service seems solid.

CBX could do serious damage to Mt. Gox in terms of market share, maybe even surpass them if their withdrawal, deposit methods & trading platform are superior.

Will have to wait until the site itself launches to see how they fare in action.
They've also done extensive security auditing *before* launching which is a big plus.
727  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCPool24.com - Official Support Thread on: July 03, 2011, 12:32:19 AM
90% of the hashing power comes from people who joined 1-2 days ago.

Even one of the latecomers who will go to spot 2 or 3 beyond mcmeidi (you) will get 0 bonus reward if they keep their spot, because they joined on 2.7.

I know you have a son and all now, but this just seems like one big fuckup. It makes zero sense.

I'm out & hope others will see they are taking a big risk with small pool variance & are practically mining just to give bonus to 1 person + block finder

MLM screams bullshit and scam in the public's eye, and rightfully so. No thanks

What's with the user name change? This user was formerly jake something...

Jakea1011.
Also uses multiple personalities on DigitalPoint forum.

Sometimes claiming to be from UK, sometimes from Canada, etc.

You'd be dumb to send even 1 cent to this guy
730  Economy / Economics / Re: [Bitcoin Sun] The economic impact of the Mt. Gox crisis on: July 02, 2011, 10:39:35 PM
Vandroiy nailed it above.
Let's pull an arbitrary number out of thin air:

99.9% of the people who got into BTC lately, don't give a shit about bitcoins.

They want to earn fiat currency, and will dump their coins even at $0.30 per piece if it means they make 0.01$ profit. They don't want to 'earn' bitcoins or spend them.

They want to exchange them to any old currency as fast as possible even if it means crashing the market & going against their own interests in the long run.

All this idealistic pretending on the forum has clouded the judgement of wiser members.
It'd be better if we talked about things with their real names.

This mystical group of "other people" drive the market. 'They' are the majority of all speculators.
'They' couldn't care less if BTC failed in 2 weeks, as long as they can make a few bucks for 2 days.

That is reality.
731  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCPool24.com - Official Support Thread on: July 02, 2011, 06:06:13 PM
am i eligible for this bonus payout? ive been on the server for around 2 days, but also im pulling alot of speed here

I'm also waiting for answer on this one before dedicating any rigs to BTCP24.

He put at least 5-8gh/s daily, should be just as eligible for the 13btc as a guy who mined just 3000 shares before the "update".
732  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best Bitcoin Mining Pool on: July 02, 2011, 01:56:25 PM
What are the bonuses and how are they distributed? The site doesn't say anything.

Also a pool being "real 100% genuine  on real hardware" doesn't tell anything about the features.
LP support? PPS? Auto-payout? 120 cfm. required per solved block or no?
733  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCPool24.com - Official Support Thread on: July 02, 2011, 01:31:33 PM
Congratulations if that's true.

Still, nobody with current top hashing rate was mining at the beginning, so you are saying there is essentially no bonus (old miners have no way of catching up, and new miners will not get anything).

Have fun
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Playing games while mining with the same GFX card on: July 02, 2011, 05:39:17 AM
So I searched around some more, it turns out you can't use 8 gpu's while gaming, even though it works for mining.

When you just enable 4 (2 6990) it will work just fine.

The problem is, a core 2 duo or sempron used for mining will seriously bottleneck those cards. I'll try switching a few on p67 platform with i7.
735  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Record hashrate for a 5850? (me, showing off) on: July 02, 2011, 03:47:19 AM
Also, you can't RMA oc'ed cards. Or you can, but you'll just end up paying shipping and not getting a new GPU in return because they test cards.
Overclocking and running non-stock voltages voids the warranty.

Please explain the testing manufacture's use to determine whether overclocking has occurred or not.

That's likely a trade secret to deter RMA fraud. Still, you can google warranties being denied even by just removing stock coolers, or fans (that should just be 3-pin connectors not transmitting data at all).

They can probably measure if OV was applied to the voltage regulator or GPU chip, nobody's going to be sending them working cards so they obv. have tools to inspect dead ones physically

20% increase

I have some 58xx cards that run at 1.0xxx instead of 1.1xx, was basing it on that.
736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mtgox hit $2.99 on: July 02, 2011, 03:23:51 AM
None of my orders below $15.50 were filled Sad

WTF?

Just because a random person decides to sell 0.94 BTC at 3 bucks doesn't mean that's the market price
737  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Any useful flags for Nvidia9800GT for guiminer? on: July 02, 2011, 03:09:11 AM
At a closer look it hovers between 30 to 48, lags my desktop horribly though.

Try adding a -f 60 flag in guiminer. If desktop is still laggy, try a higher number.

It wont make any sense. He will be lagging on the desktop and spending more in electricity than he will get in BTC, about 100W even with -f60

At full load 175W for about 40mhash/s is a lose-lose situation.
738  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Record hashrate for a 5850? (me, showing off) on: July 02, 2011, 03:01:13 AM
2.) could VRM temps be how I killed my brand new Sapphire 5830?  I was running at 1.2v with 100% fanspeed, and it died after two weeks

Doesn't matter how high the fan speed is, you are driving 20% overcurrent to the GPU chip and overloading the VRM's. Not worth it for the small increase in hashing rate.

Also, you can't RMA oc'ed cards. Or you can, but you'll just end up paying shipping and not getting a new GPU in return because they test cards.
Overclocking and running non-stock voltages voids the warranty.
739  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~4000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 02, 2011, 01:08:04 AM
It only includes proportional.
If you use PPS then it will say 0.00 at the end of the day, but your account balance will update as normal.

Kind of weird though, I'd prefer if it showed both types of earnings.
740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Playing games while mining with the same GFX card on: July 02, 2011, 12:48:50 AM
I tried to run that game with the Direct X patch (11) on my 4x 6990 rig for fun, but it just said 'failed to initialize wrapper' or something. Gave up after 20 mins

Maybe it's just been too long since I played video games (I tried F.E.A.R a few years back), but I didn't find an answer online as to why Crysis wouldn't work.

Well, back to mining.. Will have to test again later, it looks nice in screenshots. Much better than anything I've seen in the past.
