721  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My more than 2 bitcoins got stolen just 2 days ago. on: October 15, 2023, 09:54:21 AM
KuCoin accounts are frozen - but the won't ive any info whether there is something there or not, until I get the official law enforcement report. Dubai police is taking no actions.

Does anyone has personal contact in KuCoin who might help to get this information?

Or maybe there is some possibility to get the report from any countries' law enformecents?

I don't believe that personal contact with someone from KuCoin will help you in this case, as sharing such information would be against their policies. The only way, in my opinion, is to pursue legal means.

That's why I recommended you consider consulting someone who's experienced in dealing with  internet-related crimes and cryptocurrencies, like a specialized law firm. I can't speak for Dubai, but over here, I have a local contact I can turn to for legal advice, and the costs are minimal, if any. If it's not their area of expertise, they'll refer me to the right legal experts. From there, they handle all the communication with law enforcement and the courts on my behalf.

I'm still not sure what to make of this. It seems like they wanted to hit the brakes and revamp the whole thing due to a lack of interest from the community. But then, why did they keep the site running even though withdrawals weren't working?

Since it seems like it was a one-person operation, it's still possible that something happened after this exchange with Hhampuz. He mentioned that he had been traveling a lot and hadn't reached his 'destination' yet.

724  Other / Meta / Re: Huge site outage! on: October 15, 2023, 07:43:28 AM
It is normal after an incident of this type that there may be some aftershocks.

This is not an earthquake where we expect to experience the aftershocks  Shocked

Of course! But, after so many hours of inactivity, delays in DNS propagation may occur. So all it takes is for a connection to use a DNS path that has not yet been updated, and this problem will occur.

Please note, I am not saying that this is what happened, just that it is a possibility.

No, I don't think that's what happened. Theymos didn't say anything about messing with DNS records, so there would be no DNS propagation delay. It was probably just some extra changes on the server that needed another restart.  The last downtime didn't last longer than a few minutes, as far as I can see, just the time it takes for all services to kick back in after the server restart.

I'm feeling disappointed now.  Sad
i think the plan for the upgrade is because of this unknown downtime accoutred a few times in the past.

That's not the upgrade I had in mind.  Wink
725  Other / Meta / Re: Should there be sub forums under Scam Accusations? on: October 15, 2023, 07:16:48 AM
I have to disagree, most of users who create a new thread in scam accusations are brand new accounts. We as an experienced people aware where's the scam accusations belong to, but brand new accounts still doesn't know where's scam accusations sections and that's why they choose to post in Gambling, Bitcoin Discussion or Service Discussion since those sections are obvious.

Having sub forums under scam accusations will make it harder to reach since you need to open Trading Discussion board or Scam accusations section first.

No way to avoid it. Some newbies will be up for learning, while others won't. The forum isn't meant to pamper newbies who don't want to put in the effort and make things easier just for them, at the cost of other members. That's why we've got moderators who can topic the topic to the right board.

Moreover most of scam accusations thread are full of fake accusations when the gambler not want to admit his own fault and blame the casino.

This is all the more reason why we should have a dedicated board for scam accusations related to Gambling.
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ferrari introduced BTC payment option for their cars on: October 14, 2023, 08:49:02 AM
I seriously doubt that there is a high interest among those who own bitcoin to use it to purchase an expensive car like a Ferrari.

You think? Sure, not every Bitcoin holder is dreaming about blowing their stash on a shiny new Ferrari. But you can't deny there are definitely some enthusiasts who love spending on extravagant toys. At the same time, it's important to remember that even today, a ton of high-end buys still happen with untraceable cash - for various reasons you know? I was reading that something like 10% of new luxury car sales in America are straight up cash money and  so bitcoin offers more convenience there, letting people bypass the banks as middlemen.

In fact I believe the same problem existed with Tesla and I believe this was the real reason why Musk removed the bitcoin payment option not the nonsense he said about the energy consumption.

Mask is a well-known manipulator who consistently prioritizes his own interests. He certainly has a track record of making moves that serve his personal agenda.

That account has been already banned. There's been an increase in SEO spam lately. In this case, the first two posts of that account include a link. It's not the first time I've seen that domain being spammed around here (probably nuked around five accounts spamming the same domain).

While you're at it, you can probably nuke these two as well:

ankr-buy-ankr (uid=3577844)
avalanche-avax (uid=3577858)

They share a similar usernames, nearly identical UID, the same MO, and have the same domain on their profile.
728  Other / Meta / Re: strange user behavior on: October 13, 2023, 11:44:27 AM
There is no need to move anything anywhere. Just report the posts as low quality to the moderators. You don't even need to create a separate topic for this. Several idiots appear on the forum every day who somehow attract attention to themselves, and moderators promptly delete their activities.

Although he has plagiarism. I think this is where his story ends.

Nice find. All of his one-liners appear to be nothing more than copy-paste plagiarism. I've submitted a report here and reported a bunch of his posts to the moderators. That should do the trick to get the account nuked, I guess.

Bitcoin mining isn't cheap nowadays, and the main problem is that the hardware gets obsolete really fast, I mean if you buy the best Bitcoin miner in 1 year it will not have enough power to be efficient enough to give you profit, that's why if you want to start mining you should look at altcoins, that's the right way to do it if you have low capital.

Let's do a little math. I buy 3 ASIC BITMAIN AntMiner S9 14th for $100 and start mining on one ASIC in solo. For a year I will pay 400 dollars for electricity. And I'll buy a good noisebox for $200. After 2 years, I will get tired of the experiment and I will lose $1100, but I will still have AntMiner S9 bricks and noisebox Smiley
I think the buyer of Terminus R606 will lose more money if this ASIC costs $400.

730  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Search Do Not Work - Only Old Results - Admin Complete Fail And Sleep on: October 13, 2023, 11:11:16 AM
An admin/s is not someone who is on this forum 24 hours a day, but a person who has his own personal life, which includes work, family, sleep and everything that ordinary people do in life. At the same time, you have a completely free service to use this forum and all its possibilities, but unfortunately you have not learned to use it correctly.

Judging from his forum history, OP seems to have quite the knack for pointing fingers at admins for all sorts of stuff. It's beginning to resemble more of an obsession at this point.

I'm planning on upgrading the main servers sometime in the next few months. (Just as part of standard maintenance: there will be no user-visible changes other than perhaps slightly improved speed.)

For a brief moment there, you had me wondering where this was going. LOL!

Which means you didn’t even bother to go through the thread before you dropped a post there, because if you did you would have seen the part of the rules that started “users with 0 zero posts should not apply” and yet you did.

You should consider reading threads thoroughly before you reply to them as it will help you understand what they are about so you won’t make stupid mistakes like you just did in that thread.

And here’s the part of the rule that disqualifies you from posting in that thread.
- If you have 0 posts, do not apply.

At 06:31:19 AM the user registered and at 06:40:00 AM he submitted an application for a merit in my topic.

When I see requests like this, my first thought is that this is someone’s alt who decided to quickly upgrade his account. Beginners, as a rule, do not navigate the forum so quickly.

respected sir you are right. i am just reading the bitcointalk forum from the past few days but i was nothing to understand what should i do in this forum.at lastly i thought to make my self account so i can know about further as i open account i go there in beginner i just saw your post for merit but its not easy to get merit without know the rules

It's highly unlikely that a legit newbie would go straight to the merit giveaway thread with their first post and then ask for guidance on how to use the forum in their second post. How did you even know what merits are?
If you learned about Merits from the sticky threads, you should also have been aware of the forum rules, making this topic redundant.
734  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on debian 12 on: October 11, 2023, 08:28:27 AM
Hi there.

Recently I decided to move to the Linux operating system due to security reasons and I was excited about it. I never used the Linux operating system before so I do not have any experience. I was trying to install Electrum's latest version on my Operating system which is Debian 12. The problem is, that whenever I write a command in my terminal, it always installs a backdated version of Electrum in my system. The command I am using is
Code:
sudo apt install electrum

I should mention one thing. The selected mirror server is deb.debian.org

Have you tried running
Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
respectively?

That should install available upgrades of all packages currently installed on your system, including Electrum.

Thanks for the efforts guys. I downloaded the files but it seems its corrupt, it will not unpack -

Are you sure about that? I gave it a shot on my end, and the unpacking process went smoothly without any issues. I used 7-Zip.
Perhaps consider giving it another go by downloading the file one more time.
737  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTB used bitcoin wallet Wallets that had a Bitcoin balance bef block #556759. on: October 10, 2023, 05:42:33 PM
Would you share the reason behind that? DaveF already mentioned the problem behind that. I dont want to share old wallets that are used for tax evasions.

Considering that specific block he mentioned, it's likely related to the BSV fork, or perhaps the BTCMobick airdrop.

Nah, BSV was forked form BCH back in 2018
Block 556759 is from Jan 3rd 2019  https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/block/556759

Oh yeah! I found out from wikipedia that Bitcoin SV was forked at block 556766, but I forgot that it was the BCH chain.

Keep an eye on that thread and lets see what happens.
It's so strange that that file just does not exist anywhere.

I stumbled upon this topic entirely by chance.

I have no idea what this is about, but you can download the requested file here:

I haven't unpacked it or made any modifications to it in any way. The file is simply reuploaded as it is using this service: baidudownloader.com.
740  Other / Meta / Re: How many people use Tor to access TalkImg? on: October 10, 2023, 01:35:54 PM
Appreciate your feedback.
I have never encountered any significant problem whilst uploading images to TalkImg.com through Tor. Only small annoyances like not uploading fully, which was easily fixed by doing a simple Tor Circuit change that is only two clicks.

Same here. I regularly use Tor to upload images without any major problems. I believe the TalkImg service works well  as it is.
