721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: November 11, 2023, 08:22:13 AM

They would need to obey the rule because otherwise, no business, or fines, or court battles. It probably won't be prominent today or tomorrow, but once this is all enforced it will change the landscape. However, they can't control dexes, they can't control code. There will be routes to avoid these rules for for those who don't like them, that goes for both companies and individuals.

This is rediculous. So we know for a fact that they try to control exchanges because they know they can't control bitcoin fundamentally. Which means they know they can't shut it down and they try to control it using otherr techniques. Sounds like they are desperate. P2P exchanges for the win.
722  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow vs Electrum for desktop on: November 10, 2023, 07:44:55 PM
Since I was the OP I want to add one more argument in favour of Sparrow. I have tried communicating with the Devs, just to see their reactions and how easy it is to approach them. With Sparrow it was incredibly easier. I count this as a very important factor.
723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: November 10, 2023, 04:13:54 PM
someone is enjoying spamming the Bitcoin network??

Absolutely. However, they are losing money doing this, so don't worry. At some point the network will be back to normal. It's sad for ordinary users though, but luckily we can use LN.
724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Oct 2023] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: November 10, 2023, 02:33:33 PM
Loyce, I hate to say that, but I believe this is a massive attack on the network. I want to send a tx 3 days now, but I don't do it because of the high. I am glad I have opened channels in LN when it was cheap and now I can use it.

725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: November 10, 2023, 01:49:38 PM
Can all this be an attack to the bitcoin network, whose the purpose is to make everyday users suffer due to high fees?

Bitcoin will not suffer because of that, but we will, unless we use LN.
726  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: GUIDE:Important factors to take into account while choosing a wallet on: November 10, 2023, 12:50:39 PM

Electrum is the most recommended Open Source wallet because it has a strong community with ongoing development.

No doubt. Sparrow too. I mainly use sparrow to be honest. And yes, your point is correct.

However, the proper question to address here is: should I trust a tiny open source project or a huge closed source one?

To this question I personally go for the open source one most of the times.
727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: November 10, 2023, 12:45:11 PM
Whoever bows down to permitting full surveillance to government and pays the fee to get the approved badge...like any other form of government approval.

Which government though?

I mean an exchange is an exchange. It's a business that exchanges from one currency to another. In our case, a crypto exchange buys FIAT and sells crypto and vice-versa.

That said, how can Gemini know which other exchanges are "permitted" by the government and more importantly, why do they need to obey to this rule? I mean why would they need to allow incoming funds only from certain other exchanges? That's stupid. It would also decrease their incoming liquidity.
728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: please help me with this question on: November 10, 2023, 12:26:45 PM
Whatever happens OP, DO NOT send funds to 1NLqpZnW746xjdAgnrTb56V4uZJiV4jjrU

We all have the PK to sign transactions from this address. Be careful.

timestamp -> ποιο το πρόβλημα με το timestamp;

Its sad that you accept BTC as a new form of wealth but that you can't accept the value of a new art form

Obviously you have yet to understand their value.

you likely think the art below is worthless.

I realise that art in general is important, I love art. Until NFTs were invented, people would go to auctions to observe physical art and would try to acquire it. They still do, I guess.

Digital art is important nowadays. It can be used in websites, digital marketing etc. However, I think digital art can't be valued properly through NFTs and it can't be properly protected using them.
Digital art is convenient. Mistakes can be easily erased. But, the purpose of digital art in my opinion can't be the same as this of the physical art.

In general, I think digital art can't be equal to physical art because they have a different purpose.

Physical art has flaws that can't be easily undone. Physical art can be portrayed in your living room easily. It has a smell. It is actual art. The way you maneuver your pen or brush can lead to something unique.

I understand this has already started in other countries. For example this news story from a few days ago: https://www.nobsbitcoin.com/gemini-uk-to-prohibit-regular-bitcoin-transactions/

What makes an exchange approved or non-approved? Who approves an exchange?
732  Local / Ελληνικά (Greek) / Re: Συζήτηση περί big blocks (κ.α.) on: November 10, 2023, 08:54:00 AM
Lopp: Yeah, I mean at a very low technical level, Bitcoin is not money. We use Bitcoin as money because of the interesting attributes that the system has. But ultimately this is a distributed programmable database.

Σύμφωνα με το whitepaper: "To solve this, we proposed a peer-to-peer network using proof-of-work to record a public history of transactions".
733  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: GUIDE:Important factors to take into account while choosing a wallet on: November 10, 2023, 08:12:20 AM
Open Source is just a sign that the wallet can be developed by anyone and the code can be verified by the community.
But there is no guarantee that Open Source wallets will remain secure.

Yes, absolutely, but it's still better to know what you use than to be absolutely blind as far as the code is concerned. The problem is that some people don't have the technical knowledge to read the code. And that's a big issue because in this case, being open-source is not very different.
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Best wallet for Android? on: November 09, 2023, 05:21:42 PM
Have you reported it to their support or asked on their thread? As long as the connection between your device and your node is okay, there should be no problem. What kind of instability are you facing? It would be weird if a connection to other nodes is better compared to your node unless it is hosted on the cloud (VPS, etc) and not on the same network. CMIIW.

In order to get it to work, I need to mandatorily use Orbot. Otherwise it won't connect at all. Now, if I use Orbot, it is ultra slow and it doesn't show the proper balance. I keep refreshing but it doesn't change.

To be honest I haven't reported because I don't use it anymore. For mobile, I use Sentinel (and sometimes Samourai) connected to my own Dojo server. This setup runs flawlessly.
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Bitcoin network spammer on: November 09, 2023, 05:19:07 PM
The NFT market is very quiet nowadays, and this seems to be the next thing. Until it blows up, after which someone will create another money maker for themselves.

You think NFTs will gain popularity again? Haven't people already realised what it is about?
736  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mailing list migration on: November 09, 2023, 02:30:43 PM
Is there any place where we can see their thoughts and plans on how they will move from now on? Like what options they have etc
737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Bitcoin network spammer on: November 09, 2023, 07:04:55 AM
Even so, Bitcoin works as expected, avoiding attacks by increasing the fees.

I hate ordinals, I had to say it, but don't worry about the network.

If you have super important payments that cannot be delayed I suggest you move to Lightning.

If you can wait, then rest assured that mempool is going to clear and you will have your opportunity.

740  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mailing list migration on: November 08, 2023, 07:49:47 PM
If they setup their own server and tweaked the code (they are developers....) it might work for them with very few changes.

What do you mean? That they could maintain the same mailing list hosted in their own server?
