721  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit gambling and Invest in gambling. on: November 14, 2023, 06:28:27 PM
OP, before planning on taking such action, perhaps you should give it a second thought. By now you should know that most gamblers have the bad character of not able to pay debt. When you grant them some loan and if eventually, they win after using the money to gamble since they don't have any self-control and discipline they would still try to see if they can double the profit before paying you back. Some may get lucky and win and some may lose, those who lose might run or not even think of finding a means to pay you back.

Talking about collateral if they have an asset that is worth the amount they want to borrow, i don't think they would borrow instead they will sell it and hold on to the cash for gambling. I have seen a lot of chronic gamblers do this. They prefer selling their properties instead of taking a loan. They are aware that they may lose or win so it's not a problem to them, their mind has already concluded that anything that would happen should happen.

Arsenal is ready to hijack Newcastle’s loan move for Ruben Neves.

Ruben Neves can play both 6 and 8, I don’t think there will be a better deal in January for us. It’s very low risk and high reward. I’ve seen reports that say Al-Hilal could even be open to an option to buy. Let’s not forget he was on the verge of joining Barcelona last year.

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu is known to be a long-term admirer of former Wolves star.

723  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: November 14, 2023, 04:54:56 PM
Despite getting an unexpected loss against Lens Arsenal are still going on nicely in the group stage. I assume we can say that they have qualified for 1/8 finals already. They would probably make it there as 1st as well. I really liked their performance against Sevilla the last time. They were in full control. However this might not be a very healthy example to take into consideration to believe in Arsenal for next stages.

They have shown some inconsistencies during the season. If we see that in bigger matches in the Champions League then they could say goodbye early to the tournament.
Currently with their current points they have so far, Arsenal has qualified amongst it's group members for the next stage of the champions league, they are at the top of their group with nine points even with their inconsistency so far, although they have not lost one of their UCL games, they still remain at the top and their next match isn't a determinant for their qualification.

Making it pass the round of sixteen better known as the knock out stage is something we can't really determine now , although they have been really good with their performance so far but we are yet to have the complete teams qualify so who they will be meeting at this stage is yet uncertain and it's important to know that at this stage everyone plays their very best so the competition is much more than bit was at the group stage which will require more efforts than they did at the group stage so let wait till the draws for the round of sixteen is out then we could better determine if they could make it pass that stage.
Arsenal has lost one UCL game. They played against Lens on the third of October, and it was a good performance for Arsenal that they were unlucky that they have to concede a goal during the end of the match. Arsenal has 9 points as you mentioned and is leading with 4 points. Followed by PSV 5points, Lens 5 point and lastly Sevilla 2 points. Arsenal is to play Lens again at emirate stadium on the 29th of November.

It would be a very tough game because both team wants to win the game. Lens will struggle to see if they can get the three points again so that they can top PSV. While Arsenal wants to maintain their kingship on the group and to be of a safer and higher chances to qualify for the next group stage. The game might be difficult for Arsenal because most of their players are facing injuries and these players are mostly their key players, perhaps before the matchday one or two may have returned from injury.

726  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 14, 2023, 01:20:24 AM
It is important we make this clarification so that new people going through this discussion will not think that investing in Bitcoin is that complicated because it isn't.  It is more of a mentality something after the financial aspect have been taken care of. By mentality, I'm referring to the ability to invest without fear, greed and the resolve to give the investment time to yield profits.
to be really frank, when I use to hear about bitcoin before joining the forum, there used to be this feeling of complexity attached to it and I never knew it's a simple thing that doesn't really involve much complex analysis before one can invest into bitcoin. I guess that's possibly the reason why some persons are afraid to invest in bitcoin because they look at it as one complex stuff that they will needd to take a whole bunch of time studying before they can get the basic knowledge that will guarantee proper investment
Yeah you are right most people had the same thinking or believe that the complexity of Bitcoin is too much, because just like you said even me I once had that feeling but it was when I finally venture into Bitcoin accumulation then I realized that investing on Bitcoin doesn't need much knowledge but instead all that's needed is just a little basis knowledge of it, at least just to know what you are in for.

So I agree with you because most people that have not really venture into Bitcoin always feel that the complexity of Bitcoin is too much that they could find it very difficult to understand, because I have actually meet someone that wants to invest on Bitcoin but was afraid of the complexity involves on Bitcoin, so I was able to prove to him that he doesn't need much knowledge before starting to invest on Bitcoin since is for holding.
You have done well in going deep to talk to your friend who wanted to invest in Bitcoin but find it too complex. In as much you spoke about no need of having much but they should be aware of the risk involved because it is an investment and as well, they should know about their investment approach. Only a well approached investment can yield good result.

Every successful investor you see today followed a well detailed approach investing to achieving the level of success they are today. Choosing a strategy is not that difficult or complex as well it's just for them to understand each strategy and how it works. Know the pros and cons and they are good to go.
727  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need your contribution and opinion on: November 14, 2023, 01:02:24 AM
Before rushing into Bitcoin investment OP, think about your investment approach. There are a lot of ways to buy bitcoin whether a whole or some fractions of it. It all depends on your financial strength.

You can lump sum when the price dips a little or buy gradually buy steadily DCAeing weekly or monthly. It is not compulsory to buy comeplete whole of Bitcoin. Even if you have all the money, you only invest the amount you can afford to lose. This is my humble advice from my own experience.

728  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you work toward hodling bitcoin? on: November 14, 2023, 12:51:39 AM
First of all, I want to say congrats on your new rank OP!

All you have said is very relatable. One thing that helps so much is your perception on what you think about Bitcoin. I am convinced that Bitcoin will one day become a world currency, and as such will go 10x to 100x even 1000x more than today's price. This has made held on to my Bitcoin for years. I stopped receiving fiat payment from my freelance work last year and am receiving in Bitcoin. So, what i do is i take the percentage i need for fiat expenses, some to emergency fund and send the rest for my weekly DCA. It can be easy once you know the reason you bought Bitcoin in the first place.
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a peer to peer method less popular than as an investment on: November 14, 2023, 12:35:56 AM
Bitcoin is obviously a means for sending payment from one person to another. Which is one of the main features in the whitepaper. However, it is also considered as a store of value because the price increase in value and people now anticipate it. Allocating capital to a store of value with expectation to generate a huge return in future or appreciation of the underlying asset is quite literally why it is generally called investment. So, if it doesn't increase in value or have the potential to, people won't invest in it.
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and misinformation on: November 13, 2023, 11:48:45 PM
There is no need to force that to someone that we know. We're just going to be looking like bunch of scammers if we're forcing them to invest.

Been there done that.

You let them go for themselves and don't encourage people that you know unless you are their first family. Or even with your first family, let them take care of themselves with their own assets and investments.

Forcing such on anyone will not only make you a suspected scammer, but wouldn't believe all you saying about Bitcoin even if you're saying the truth, with the way you say it might make someone who wants to walk away peacefully from the discussion, might start making enemy with you, that you want to lure him to do something he doesn't want to do.
Yeah and I've got to notice that in the past because I've got skeptic friends when I've shared about Bitcoin to them. I told them the truth and my own opinion about Bitcoin.

I've made profit too by that time before I've shared it to anybody. But I've got negative opinions instead of them getting interested on it and I felt sad that on this market that I'd love and then I want them to enjoy it as well.

Instead of the good response that I am expecting, I got nothing and even lied low friends.
That is the right thing to do. If you care about your friends and want them to be successful with you on the Bitcoin journey, the best approach is to inform them about Bitcoin, ensuring they won't have any regrets in the future for missing out on participation. Additionally, sharing your experiences and the resources you've used for learning can be persuasive. I believe that alone can convince them, and they will make up their minds. Investing is a personal choice, and discussions about investment opportunities and benefits are only necessary for those willing and eager to invest. Once they have the desire, they'll start without needing much persuasion.

There was a time when I introduced Bitcoin to my colleagues after a brief meeting in a collaborative project. One of them told me to start, and he would join me when he sees progress and returns. However, when Bitcoin went below 24k and was at 23k, he called me and said, "So how's your Bitcoin doing now that it's crashed?" People like him may not understand the technology and will likely seek ways to justify their decision not to invest. But yesterday, I called him again and asked, "How about the current price?"

Have you noticed that since the thread came up in the board, the kind of post you find here has changed to a very large extent?

I guess that the purpose of the caution is gradually yielding positive result and I'm happy it has helped the board in the right way. Our snr men in the forum serves as leaders and role model to those of us coming up and it would be bad that they will see us going outside of the reason why the board was created and not encourage us to do better.

When I joined the board the first thing I observed was the kind of thread our board members makes here and I just followed suit not until the thread came up that I got my thought process shaped in line with the purpose of the board and I'm working on only creating threads that is bitcoin related or at least informative and educative enough.
Yes, your right. Ever since it boss Agbe and other senior members took action on the shitposting matter, i have been seeing good post on the LB. Sometime a little action needs to be taken if not human wont change.
At least make we maintain this our current posting style we go see how the LB go they. Nothing bad wey be say wen them they talk about LB way get better members them go call our own.

Again, I fully appreciate everyone who have put interest to bring about this change and i pray it continue and we should not deviate instead i pray for more improvement.
733  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: We should control our tongue at all time. on: November 13, 2023, 07:20:25 PM
I was traveling from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa state yesterday afternoon, we go to a police check point and it was the Federal Sars men that stopped us. While they were doing their lawful duty of searching the vehicle and the passengers in it, a girl that was sitting behind me made a comment and the officer that was conducting the search heard her loud and clear. She said '' You people are just wasting our time, if it were the bad boys terrorizing the region you people won't stop them''. The Sars man got angry and asked the girl to come down from the vehicle, the girl came down and she was taken into their custody for further questioning about her comment. The officer asked the driver to carry the rest of the passenger and continue with the journey. Some passengers pleaded with the officer to let the girl go but they refused, they said the girl must show them evidence where she saw them not stopping bad boys. They accused the girl of working with bad boys. The girl was detained while we continued with our journey.
The girl wouldn't have found herself in that situation if she had kept quiet without saying a word.
we should learn how to control our tongue at all time. Don't say unguided words when in public place.
Don't say anything when your opinion is not sought after in a public place because you don't know who is who.
I feel like sharing this so that we can avoid some unnecessary problems in our lives.
Knowing full well that the officer has the right to stop and search every vehicle they come across. That is their duty, and they are implementing i. The girl was totally wrong for saying such because of a simple search. But let's come back to the other side of the matter. It seems we don't have the right anymore to speak to the police. But they said they are our best friend. We are expected to express our emotions towards them, but it is different in our country. I don't like comparing our country with other country but am really fed up with a lot of things going on.

I remembered sharing my experiences of how they stole our generator at home and the thief was caught. When the Police came, we told them that we don't want to escalate the matter that the boy should just pay the money for the Generator because we have bought another one and he can go They insisted that they will take the boy to the station so that he can learn some lesson for some time. I never knew their intention was to find a way to get money. On reaching there they said we need to sign, and signing is 1k, fuel fee and all the rest. We spent almost 10k before leaving the station, now who is the main thief?
734  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: I just want to understand something on: November 13, 2023, 07:04:28 PM
I don't know why you choose to ask this question here when you can do that in Beginners and help. Any way merit is easy to get, and higher rank is attainable as long as you have quality post and also quality replies. You can have a quality comment when you contribute something that was helpful, find a solution or some advice to a difficult situation/problem, disagree with someone that seems to be striking a point that is not valid especially when you have a different view on it.

Merit can only be given to you by other members of the forum when they find your post or comment satisfying then it can be worth merit. OP you don't have to focus your mindset on the merit because as i know that you have the urge to rank up as fast, but it will take a little time and it is stage by stage. As you continue to progress on your rank you will find out that you have known more than you know when you initially joined the forum. Stay consistent and abide to the rules, it is the key to your success in this. forum.
735  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 13, 2023, 09:42:01 AM
Liverpool? They're not ready, have you seen that defense? They can't win the Premier League. Arsenal have tasted what if feels like to be at the top and failed, but after failure comes success, I'm tipping gunner's for the Premier League but they should be consistent.
Liverpool is much better prepared than Arsenal.
Liverpool is a team that has a better mentality than Arsenal to win the Premier League title, last season it was clear that Arsenal were just not mentally prepared when they were under pressure, I think this season will be the same.
There are many young players in the team which makes Arsenal's team mentality not as tough as other top teams, it may take several years to start the process so that it can produce a title.
I think arsenal is not still ready to win the league this season,  whenever arsenal meets big teams I can't feel that desperation of them winning the march,  they just play to see what will the end result will look like . The mentality arsenal is possessing right now can't make them to win the league this season.  I can't see that see that seriousness in them, arsenal just need to see themselves winning their coming games if they want . This season arsenal have many challengers which might now be that easy for them to get the title.
You have a valid point. The pattern of Arsenal playing is somewhat different from another team. They have this calm and tactical pattern of playing football. Whenever they try to play aggressively like other teams, they end up losing the game. I don't know why Arsenal manager decided to teach the team this pattern of play, well it has done more good than harm. Because i could remember the match against Chelsea and Newcastle it cost them a lot.

Manchester City is still very strong in the league and the way they are playing they might likely win the league again, since Arsenal still finds it difficult to climb the league table.

If I were the one who got that email, I would immediately delete it from my email. I don't know whether the news is true or false and rather than thinking about things that are too far beyond what I can think of, I'd delete it.

That may be true. But it might also be wrong. Maybe since Bitcoin was created, there have been transactions for illegal things. What is certain is that we will not know, and it will only give rise to a lot of wild opinions. Such emails are often sent to many random people to inform them of something that might make people panic.

Don't be provoked by unclear issues. We shouldn't think too much about things we don't know clearly.
Obviously, I have deleted the message from my email. I was only concerned that the mail contains a message of a threat on something I found valuable, which is Bitcoin. Perhaps you're not bothered because of the country you live in. There are some countries that are particularly affected by actions taken from countries considered to be world powers, and these actions will also impact those countries. We are talking about the US government, and if such actions are taken there, it may affect many Bitcoin enthusiasts in my country and even our government's decisions on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency at large.
737  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 12, 2023, 09:33:31 AM
Yes, I have already mentioned that the perfect time for an investor to invest is when he has enough knowledge about investing. Before starting any new job, the first step is to know about the job. If we are blindfolded and taken to a task which we don't know about before and if we go to the place of work and are asked to do this new task with our eyes open then how well can we do that task?
Usually, when artists perform live in various concerts, they practice several times after the live performance so that they can present their performance perfectly. It is natural that if we try to invest without having any idea about investing, then we will fail there.
Even though I agree with you that knowledge is important for investment in anything,  it seems you are making the investment process overcomplicated. I don't think complete knowledge have always been a factor regarding investment in BItcoin because investment in BItcoin is an easy thing that can be done from the comfort of your home and requiring just little knowledge of how to receive and protect your coins. During the days of hype like 2021 when there was massive influx of people into Bitcoin, a lot of people started their journey within a week of hearing about Bitcoin. Within a week they had already gotten all the key  knowledge they need to start investing in Bitcoin, this shows how easy it is to start investing in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin interfaces is actually very simplified these recent times. The wallets, exchanges and Apps where we use Bitcoin has got easier over the years and they are easy to use and navigate. You don't need to know every detail of something to use it. Most persons don't even know how their local currencies works. In my country people use Naira all the time without having a clue or the slightest idea on how the financial system works and how the government regulates the distribution of money. Only few people understand this over here but yet people still make use of fiat and the local banking system.

I think that people are just reluctant to try to get an understanding of Bitcoin. A week is enough to get some knowledge and start investing if you have the fund. Well, there is no reason to expect people to go into Bitcoin so easy, not everyone is that smart enough that is why I won't blame some person. It may take me two or three days to understand the Bitcoin whitepaper but to someone it may take them weeks.
738  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: November 12, 2023, 08:39:45 AM
Tottenham's performance has deteriorated badly. Despite scoring the first goal against Wolves, Tottenham thought they would play a defensive strategy throughout the match and win the match 1–0. And this is what they were playing for. Tottenham players do not try to attack much. The wolves' attacks were also successfully countered by Tottenham's players. But they were very unlucky. Tottenham conceded the first goal in the 90+1 minute. And in extra time they conceded one more goal and lost the match. It is impossible to say when stability will return to the performance of Tottenham. My guess now is that the Tottenham team will gradually fall further back in the points table.

I don't completely agree with you because these 2 defeats can be said to be unlucky days I mean unexpected defeat I think we should see a few more games from Tottenham whether their game continues to get worse or can overcome it. Tottenham still have time to fix the problem including the defense line because in my opinion the main problem is with the defense which is conceding more goals lately, they must be able to prove it in the next 2 matches.
I won't call it an unlucky day. Most of the teams are having issues with injuries on player and fatigue. Teams like Arenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham is no exception. This is the period where the manager has to show their managing skills because they have to know where to fit in some players that can perform better in the unavailable positions. Yesterday Newcastle lost to Bournemouth and the fans were very angry and said a lot of things, during the match a Newcastle player was expressing himself on the peach to the fan and asked a question. How many injuries do we have? Regardless that football is a game of passion, but the trophies involve has made more of a strong competition and players are obsessed in winning the trophy. This is why we see so many injuries during this time.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcin does not support financial crimes and is not involve in political affairs on: November 11, 2023, 08:11:41 PM
I received a mail on my inbox. It took me some days before i went through my inbox and i read it.

This is the full content of the email. here

There is a major scandal brewing at the Wall Street Journal related to their bitcoin coverage. Two reporters, Angus Berwick and Ian Talley, recently wrote an article titled “Hamas Militants Behind Israel Attack Raised Millions in Crypto.”
The article claimed that Hamas and their affiliates raised approximately $130 million in cryptocurrency donations. For obvious reasons, this would be very concerning if it was true. That is a big “if” though.
Elliptic, the platform that the Wall Street Journal reporters allegedly used to come up with this analysis, came out publicly yesterday and said that the analysis is wrong. In fact, the Elliptic team wrote in a statement “there is no evidence to suggest that crypto fundraising has raised anything close to this amount, and data provided by Elliptic and others has been misinterpreted.”
That should be the end of the story, right?
Unfortunately no. More than 100 lawmakers came together to sign a letter to national security leadership calling for a crackdown on cryptocurrencies. What was their argument? That the Wall Street Journal article proved that terrorists were using cryptocurrency to raise obnoxious amounts of money.
Think about how ridiculous this situation is.
The Wall Street Journal published an article that is inaccurate. That article was read by hundreds of our lawmakers, who then decided to create pressure on other administration officials based on the inaccurate information.
The mainstream media is programming the brains of our lawmakers with fake news.
There has been no retraction of the story from the journalists.
They are actually doubling down on Twitter/X and refusing to acknowledge their mistake, although the platform they used to do the analysis has publicly said they are wrong.
There has been no comment or retraction of the letter from lawmakers that is now proven to be based on false information.
The scary part in this scenario is that if lawmakers are so easily swayed by inaccurate reporting, we should ask ourselves what other legislation is being proposed after someone consumed inaccurate information?
This brings me to a point that I made on CNBC’s Squawk Box yesterday. Bitcoin does not care about the politics in Washington DC. The asset is oblivious to what is happening in the world.
If the US was to take the extreme measure of banning or outlawing bitcoin, the rest of the world would continue to adopt the technology. They may even accelerate their adoption because it would be seen as a positive sign that bitcoin is outside of the US system.
So while our politicians are being tricked by the mainstream media, it would still not solve the problem that they are claiming to want to solve.
Bad people are going to do bad things with technology, regardless of the rules. If the US took the most extreme steps at home, it would not stop criminals from trying to use the technology.
Thankfully, the criminals are one step ahead in this situation though and they have figured out that using a public ledger for committing crimes is a horrible idea.
The market has solved the problem and does not require new rules or regulations.
We have to be very careful that we do not simply become a country where the creation of regulations is the norm. We should want the least regulations possible while still accomplishing our overarching goals.
The whole situation on this topic is unfortunate. The media was likely trying their best to do good work and analysis. The lawmakers took the information and analysis at face value. It is easy to see how we got here.
Now that we know the information is inaccurate, the media should retract and/or correct the article and lawmakers should publicly correct their comments as well.

There is a misconception and i want to focus my discussion on some key points

1. Bitcoin itself is not tied to any financial crimes. Yes, it can be use by criminals as a means to receive payment from. There is a difference between misuse by individuals and the Bitcoin technology itself. Bad people are going to do bad things just like the sender said, regardless of the rules surrounding the technology. Even if there is a law to stop Bitcoin in a particular country criminals will not still stop to use the technology in other countries.

2. Government and Information should consider focusing on the need for accurate information before disseminating it to the public. This incident was caused by misinformation that has led to the sudden hash government actions and decision towards cryptocurrency especially the pioneer Bitcoin.

3.  Hasty decision based on inaccurate information can cause a huge consequence not on Bitcoin but to the society at large. The law makers should have conducted through investigation before proposing to take actions on anything. These scenario has exposed the envies of the lawmakers and government heads towards bitcoin and its technology.

IMO OP, i think we as Nigerians is not making good use of our Natural resources. I said this because even in our country the price of what we produce here is quite very expensive. Most of the product here are being sent outside the country for little touches or refining and when they bring it back here they wiill increase the price of the goods yet we will still buy them. The thing that hurts me the most is that we dont value our produce. We see it as lesser products and those imported outside the country are the Original product. This alone has made some local manufacturing industries to shutdowns after they have lost the zeal since they are not patronized. We have our local rice and i herd its very tasty but how many of us do eat it lest be sincere?

Once we start appreciating what God has gifted us with then we that is when we start seeing it as something valuable and make good use of it to the country's advantage.
