724  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Are there any good ways to buy BTC with Paypal anymore? on: October 29, 2011, 12:15:13 AM
I have done many paypal transactions and haven't been burned yet.
This is how I do mine...

  • Agree on amount to be purchased and a purchase price via PM, board, email
  • Buyer (verified paypal only) makes payment to sellers paypal account as gift payment
  • After payment is confirmed received, partial BTC payment is sent to buyers wallet (5%-25% depending on purchasing amount)
  • After payment clears from paypal to another account (3-4 business days), remainder sum of BTC is sent to purchasers wallet

Cost per BTC is greater than current ask/bid on the exchanges and a mining fee of 5%-10% is placed on top of total cost.

I hold a bank account for this purpose only and keep no money in it, paypal cannot request return of funds, and no cc's are tied to my paypal account. I've spoken with a friend at a local credit union and he informed me that it does not matter what was purchased, if you supply proof and agreement of purchase paypal has no recourse to return funds to the buyer. I keep all records of emails and board messages for 60 days.

727  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How much 12v amp pulled from PCI-E slots ? (5830 vs 5870 vs 5970) on: October 28, 2011, 01:41:52 PM
I can't help you with the figures you're requesting. I'm using 5870's, I would like to see someone go over the top of this build using 5970's or 6990's. I would like to know their results.

7-8 Single gpus work on one MSI Big Bang with no molex.
12 volt power cables from PSU are not hot or warm to the touch.

There is only one issue so far with running eight. Stability in the operating system.
Windows 7 will recognize 8 gpus with a lot of tweaks. ATI CCC can not be installed and I needed to build my rig up slowly after installation.
Linux Coin recognizes all 8 gpu's but from my experience lc has never been a completely stable platform.
Big A Miner Thing does not support 8 gpu's long term for some reason, but will support 7.
From Aaron Wolfe, creator of BAMT, when asked about the problem:

your best bet is to just pull the 8th card.

729  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What Dual PSU's work best for you?? on: October 27, 2011, 11:14:07 PM
I've had my best experience with Antec's High Current 1200W 80+ Gold PSU
1200W of continuous power & 1188W 12V combined maximum output

I looked at that one and it seemed good.  I'm hoping to go dual PSU.  I think it will make things more modular and save a bit of money on each rig.  I figure I can get two good 650/700W PSU's for $150 versus the $250 for the Antec 1200W.  Given that I'm looking at 10 rigs, that will add up

Not really sure what power supplies your looking at that you can get for that price but 80+ Gold will save you on power cost

732  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Need BTC/MTGOX via PayPal USD on: October 27, 2011, 07:01:45 PM
There is only one way this will work.

  • Determined Paypal payment sent as a gift
  • Pre-determined small amount of BTC sent to wallet
  • You'll have to wait 4-5 business days for paypal withdraw to take place
  • Remaining sum of BTC sent after withdraw

If you want someone to take a leap of faith, that is the way. I sell to a few people and even though we have had good transaction in the past, this is till the only way I will conduct business through paypal. Its just too risky.

You want someone to trust you, you're going to have to trust them.
733  Bitcoin / Mining support / BAMT Troubles on: October 27, 2011, 03:32:27 PM
Been running BAMT v0.4b for a few weeks now. Recently it dropped my eighth card and will not boot with an eighth card plugged in. I have many cards and have swapped it out thinking i fried it, but that's not it. Fails to initialize GPU_7.

MSI Big Bang Marshal B3
HD 5870
Kingston 1333 1 GB
Intel i7 2600K

Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss here. If you can fix it, I will pay

Running LinuxCoin Final right now and it is too unstable to continue.

What you want to do is illegal. Ask for permission, you probably won't get it but who knows.
735  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Capped out my 5830 at 352Mh/s on: October 27, 2011, 05:09:22 AM
Any idea how many watts your pulling on these cards?
736  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Suggestions for cooling / air circulating fans? on: October 27, 2011, 03:55:26 AM
Looking at your picture I'm guessing that's and overhead door behind your rack. If it is and this room is air controlled, turn that rack around. The unit for circulating air is probably behind you and the intakes on these cards are on the back. Your blowing hot air towards the ac unit which is pushing it back to the cards circulating the 'dirty' air back into the cards. Just a theory and idea.
737  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Heatsink cleaning techniques? on: October 27, 2011, 03:48:35 AM
You can actually do what I used to do to clean my RC cars. Use a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray it down, the alcohol will attach to the dust and dirt and hit it real quick with your compressor. Alcohol dries very quickly and you don't run a high risk with it.

Tip: Always blow out fans while holding them still. Winding up fans with compressed air can damage them

740  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Wine Shop! on: October 26, 2011, 03:02:57 PM
I'd love it, but I'm in the US and shipping liquids here, especially alcoholic, seems to be an issue
While technically illegal (and counted as smuggling) from what I've seen if I mark it as a sample or a gift it should be fine. Watch this space, I'll try to find some source as to how to do this properly.

I think this only works for smaller quantities, like 250ml bottles. It's a bummer, I'm pretty much at the will of local distributors as to what they want to carry.
