7301  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I grow my Crypto Bag without trading on: October 18, 2021, 09:42:25 AM
I hold some coins but I wonder if I am making profit that way.
Take a look at some historical values of Bitcoin. Check out what the coin was worth 1 year ago, 3, 5, or 10 years ago. Then imagine what that USD value would be today if you just bought it back than and did nothing else besides keeping it in your wallet. You can use What if I hodl for historical prices for example.

Trading really require more skills and knowledge of crypto and the trading platform, hence I don't want to rush in.
Good choice. Trading is a profitable way of increasing your wealth, but only if you know what you are doing. Most people don't and they lose the little they had. I wrote a topic on that subject not that long ago. Check out What Can Happen If You Want to Trade Cryptocurrencies, but You Don’t Know How? if you want.

So, are there ways to increase my bag without Trading?
What do you do for a living? If you have a job, can a part of your salary be in Bitcoin? If not, you can just leave a little amount from each paycheck and buy bitcoin with it. Do some freelance work and get paid in crypto. There are many possibilities, it depends on your skills and motivations.

Staking - It's quite safe to stake and grow your coins but slashing would result in loss of stake
A part of the stake, yes. But not the entire bag of course. I remember reading about Polkadot a few months ago and they have such a slashing feature. It's applied both to validators and delegators, so you need to be careful who you delegate your rights to if you are interested in that kind of thing. Avalanche, for example, has no slashing feature.
7302  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed by coindeal on: October 18, 2021, 09:10:42 AM
You have to create a proper scam accusation if you expect any actions to be taken against the alleged scammer. That's not the way to do it.
Post all the proof you have that shows you were scammed. Screenshots, private conversations, PMs, emails, whatever you can gather.

Check the pinned thread and follow the scam report format if that's easier for you.
7303  Other / Meta / Re: Maximum posts allowed per day on: October 18, 2021, 08:40:44 AM
Bitcoin has given us the freedom to post whenever we want and how much we want.
Bitcoin didn't give you that. This is a forum and a discussion board. The topic of interest happens to be Bitcoin, but it's not the technology that affects posting on this forum in anyway. Other types of forums that aren't about Bitcoin also give you the freedom to post anything you want as long as you adhere to their local rules.

OP, did you know that this forum has enough restrictions and rules that seem centralized compared to bitcoin's decentralized philosophy to regulate users from breaking the rules?
The forum is centralized. Theymos is its head admin and he is assisted by a couple of staff members. That's a centralized group. You, me, and everyone else (the community) don't have a say on the decisions the admins make.

- We didn't vote on the implementation of merits.
- We didn't create trust or the flag system.
- We don't decide who gets banned and who doesn't.
- We don't select the ads you see around the place.
- We don't create new boards.

The list goes on. We have a lot of freedoms when it comes to posting, but the forum is still centralized, and that's exactly how it needs to be. Someone needs to make sure that the rules are being followed.
7304  Other / Meta / Re: [BCT FACT] Bitcointalk was originally on Bitcoin.org but ... drama on: October 18, 2021, 08:19:09 AM
...because of these reasons, was there ever an attempt of investigation on Theymos, Cyrus and other old and famous bitcointalk members?
You forgot sirius. He was the Bitcointalk administrator before theymos. Theymos made his way up the ladder to get to where he is now. He was a Global Moderator and then he became an admin when he was needed.

The story of how I became head admin is actually pretty boring. Moderators were needed, so I was made a global moderator. Then admins were needed, so I was made an admin. Then over time the other admins slowly lost interest and resigned until I was the only one left. I guess most of the people who were around here to see this have more-or-less left the community now. That's a bit sad.

It's not entirely clear, but for simplicity I usually say that I became head admin at the beginning of 2011, a little over a year after the forum was created.

The forum was originally located at bitcoin.org/smf, then forum.bitcoin.org (hence the redirect), and finally bitcointalk.org. Fun fact: The name "bitcointalk" was invented by Jeff Garzik, and he's the one who bought the domain.

You might also want to read this interesting interview with sirius.
Satoshi knew how to cover his tracks, so even if one of these guys is satoshi, they would know how to cover theirs as well.
7305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can 1 Bitcoin buy in your country? on: October 17, 2021, 06:28:14 PM
You can get a very decent weekend cottage for the price of 1 Bitcoin close to the Croatian-Bosnian border.
You will still be left with a few grands to spend on booze and two or three escorts (depending on your mood).

I will probably go for one of the below solutions:

  • Create a brand new wallet with seed from my Ledger device. Send some BTC to it and give them the seed.
  • Generate a private key with bitaddress in an offline environment or by booting a Live OS from USB. I will fund the address and print out the necessary info or give it to them as QR codes.
7307  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 17, 2021, 05:45:35 PM
Besides being weakened in the attack, Juventus will also be without de Ligt for this match. That leaves the team with Chiellini and Bonucci as starting central defenders and Rugani on the bench. Most Italian media and Juve sites suggest that de Sciglio is likely to start on the left back with Alex Sandro taking a break following international matches in South America with Brazil.
7308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Cryptocurrency be a Global Currency in the Future? on: October 17, 2021, 07:12:15 AM
Yes, It can be expected that cryptocurrency will be a Global currency in the future.
That depends. What does that term mean to you and what is a global currency in your own interpretation?
If you took a look at this Wikipedia article, it says in the first sentence that:
Quote
In international finance, a world currency, supranational currency, or global currency is a currency that would be transacted internationally, with no set borders.

Does Bitcoin fit this description? I would say it does. You can transact with it internationally. It has no country borders or geographical restrictions. Your coins arrive equally fast from one continent to another as well as one device to the other if they are both in the same room. Considering of course network conditions, congestion, set fees, etc.
7309  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: October 17, 2021, 06:50:45 AM

What attracted me to cryptocurrency was also my friend's wealth story. Unfortunately, the end of the story is that he also lost his wealth in the end. I also lost part of my principal.
That's exactly the problem and reason I made this thread. Those success stories, no matter how good they sound, could have just been based on luck. And there are two sides to each medal. Your friend was successful at one point during his trading career, and that's the part you decided to focus on. Eventually he lost everything and people simply overlook that part and don't consider it a real danger to them.
7311  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Gifting Bitcoin to a friend on: October 17, 2021, 06:28:57 AM
If you receive airplane, helicopter or a boat as a surprise gift from someone, would you go with the process of learning to drive them if he provides you with paid instructions, learning lessons and license?
I would, but every person is different. They are used to doing things one way and if that way works, they don't want to change. It's as simple as that. Ask around in your neighborhood if people would use Bitcoin if you showed them how it works and how to use it. Some would, others are stubborn and would probably just chase you away.

I didn't really expect that there was a service or way to achieve what I suggested in OP when I started this discussion. But I hoped I was wrong. It could be an interesting project for someone to play around with in the future.
7312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 17, 2021, 06:19:20 AM
But if Morata, Dybala and Rabiot do not perform in this match then I will bet for Roma today.
I watched the most important parts of the Juventus press conference yesterday and Max Allegri said that Dybala isn't ready yet. He needs another week or two to get back to full fitness. Morata is surprisingly recovering faster than expected and there is a chance he will even be called up for the Roma match. But I doubt he will be a starter even if he does. I think the manager's plan is to have him fit for the Champions League in midweek.

Rabiot has COVID-19 and will surely miss Juve-Roma.
Kean was also a doubt for the match because he picked up a nasty head injury in the first match of the Nations League playoffs with Italy. But he has recovered. I think he will start with Chiesa in attack.

You didn't reply to the question that I asked in my previous post about the affiliate program. I asked if you released any type of announcement that the program will be stopped after the last commission payments were made from your side?

Here it is again in case you didn't see it:
OK, so based on this last reply of yours, the last time affiliates like efialtis were paid is the last month that the program was still running, is that correct? Did you make a statement that the affiliate program will be shut down after the last payment was made? is there a post on the forum, email, or private message sent to affiliates informing them that the program will no longer be active and that the affiliates platform will be inaccessible/terminated from now on?

However, we are working on a compensation plan for our previous affiliates to help them get a head start on the new platform.
An announcement will be made regarding this when everything is ready.
I think that's a good decision. You should find a way to reward old users no matter how many of them there were.
7314  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Gifting Bitcoin to a friend on: October 16, 2021, 06:19:38 PM
How hard would be for a grown man who is getting married and who is going to have his own house, to learn something about ownership of Bitcoin before he accepts it as a gift from you?
Look, I don't disagree, But I don't want to force my opinions on him or ask him to learn how to do something that he maybe doesn't want to. I thought Bitcoin would be a great housewarming gift and something he would never expect. It's also meant to be a surprise.

My fear is that your friend, whenever finds out how to "move"/spend his BTC, with all the excitement, will eventually fall into some scam due to the lack of knowledge regarding this world.
He is a smart lad and he isn't gullible. He would never fall for the obvious scams. I would of course tell him to check with me for every step he decides to take with his coins. Whether that includes selling them on an exchange, moving them to a different wallet, re-investing into something else, etc.

I think I'm not giving a "world breaking" recommendation by suggesting the use of OPENDIME[1] right?
I have to admit that I forgot about the Opendime and didn't consider that option. Thanks!

What about using Binance? Letting them register them and just send them a gift card? Look at the link below.
I didn't know Binance offers gift cards. The only problem is that new accounts have to undergo KYC now. So he would have to perform identity verification. Since I don't like doing that myself, I don't want to suggest that he does. Do you know any other exchange where you could purchase a gift card that doesn't require KYC?

IMO, you might just annoy them with that kind of gift.
I don't think I will. He knows about Bitcoin's value. At one point he even considered mining it. He is a gamer and always has good computers and GPUs. He thought he could put them to good use mining Bitcoin but unfortunately I shattered his dreams.

You can still achieve that by inviting them over to assist in creating those in a safe environment, then simply look away when it's time for the seeds to appear [instruct them to write it down in a safe place], and lastly, delete all traces of the wallet from your side.
We live and work in different cities. I haven't seen him in almost 2 months and his housewarming party will be the first time we get together after a while.
7315  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sportbook without KYC on: October 16, 2021, 09:36:39 AM
I have played on Sportsbet.io and FortuneJack many times and I was never asked to perform KYC. If you are suspected of using multiple accounts or cheating, they might ask to see who you are. I can see that many users recommended one or both of those platforms and that's because they are on top of the list for a reason. The withdrawals from both are free of charge. Sportsbet has instant deposits, FortuneJack doesn't. Additionally, Sportsbet has an odds booster and lower withdrawal minimum amounts compared to FortuneJack.
7316  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Can Happen If You Want to Trade Cryptocurrencies, but You Don’t Know How? on: October 16, 2021, 09:22:23 AM
Sending bitcoins to the wrong service where the balance is not credited after depositing, is one of those things that will happen if someone forces themselves to understand. Just experienced someone, I have highlighted the core part of the story here.
That story makes very little sense and has nothing to do with trading. OP was paid in bitcoin for a service he offered. He wanted to do "something useful" (as he said) so he transferred the coins to an online casino, and one that has a history of scamming. Very useful indeed. Instead of leaving them where they are and doing some research about how to convert to fiat (if that is the ultimate goal), he decides to experiment on how it is to transact with bitcoin by sending them to a platform he knows nothing about.
7317  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Gifting Bitcoin to a friend on: October 16, 2021, 08:45:37 AM
I do not think that gifting any kind of Bitcoin-related gifts such as hardware wallets, or Bitcoin gifts will be useful because he is not interested in technology and will forget those wallet seed or not remember the location of the device.
He is interested in technology, but not into Bitcoin yet.

It is better to buy something that has a value to him like gold or silver coins then and then print the private key of 2of3 multi-signature address, so you can reduce the risk when he wants to sell those currencies, he asks you and other trusted third part person before sending that money.
I have considered a multi-sig setup as well. But I don't want to have any control over what he does with the coins. It's his decision to keep them, exchange them for fiat, or gamble them away. It also doesn't seem like a gift if he needs my signature to spend it. I am hoping he will see some value in it, but it's his call.
7318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I recover my old bitcoins? on: October 16, 2021, 08:35:31 AM
Interesting...

Long ago, when bitcoins weren't priced anywhere near where they are now, I sent my friend some to an address he provided. He promptly forgot all about them. Now that they're worth more, he wants to know how to retrieve them. He doesn't remember where or how he got the bitcoin address, but I do know where I sent them and where they are now.

1f1miYFQWTzdLiCBxtHHnNiW7WAWPUccr

They are parked in this address, along with 10000 other bitcoins. Does anyone know who controls this block, and where my friend can reclaim them? I hope it isn't mywallet, which I think was popular at the time. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your comments, but you are not understanding the situation. I sent my friend 1.5 bitcoin to an address he provided to me, and they were almost immediately sucked into another address that now currently holds over 10000. There were transactions sent to that address as recently as last month. I'm asking if anyone knows who controls that address, which is likely being kept in cold storage by some online wallet provider. I'm looking for that provider. Thanks again.

Hi if you are telling the truth which could be or no do you remember what type of computer it was? What brand name was it. Then maybe we can help your brain remember the info and stuff.
It was a Toshiba laptop. Will that help in the process of retrieving the private keys? On a second thought, maybe it was a Dell. OP said in a different topic that he likes peanut butter and it is possible that some of the stuff is still glued to the keyboard. Now you have two of the most significant pieces of information to retrieve the private key. You have a Toshiba, actually Dell computer + peanut butter stains on the keyboard. How long until you have the private key?
7319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Verifying Bitcoin Core Download on: October 16, 2021, 08:13:43 AM
I have a question, when downloading from www.bitcoincore.org has anybody ever had funds compromised by being unlucky enough to download a compromised or maliciously altered version? I’m pretty sure this has never happened from an official source like www.bitcoincore.org
Doesn't really matter what happened in the past. How would you feel losing your coins tomorrow because you couldn't bother taking 2 minutes out of your time to verify the authenticity of the software you are using? It wouldn't change a thing if you were the first person that happened to or the millionth.

...will I be negatively impacted by staying on an older version?
There is a reason that upgrades are issued for computer software. Bug fixes, stability and performance increases, the introduction of new features, code modifications, vulnerability fixes, etc.
7320  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Gifting Bitcoin to a friend on: October 16, 2021, 07:41:17 AM
Why not purchase a physical coin like Satori chip or any trusted coin out there then gift it to your friend.
I have considered physical coins like a Casascius coin. Satori chip would also be an option, but I feel that's a gift more appropriate for people who like Bitcoin. Giving them that is like buying a football for someone who doesn't watch sport and prefers the theatre. You are probably thinking, why do it all then? I am hoping it will intrigue him a little and get him interested.

These coins aren't exactly cheap to gift to someone who might never ever care about them. Or about Bitcoin for that matter.
