7361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: July 16, 2014, 04:52:49 AM
Looks like Hal last visited on April 10 2014, since it's been a couple of months I can only assume he won't be able to visit anymore.

. hope he is on holidays enjoying his lovely son ..

I hope he is doing well the last I read about him was in my interview with Hal Finney at the time when the reporter was researching the origins of Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto.

Stay strong Hal with a twinkle in your eye.
7362  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin price vs. hash rate? on: July 16, 2014, 04:14:35 AM
Price and hash rate are related but sometimes, for example after a bubble peak, they can diverge.

As in the hash rate goes higher and the price goes down?

In a sense yes there is a correlation the hash rate hasn't dropped though in a long time but it would probally slow down significantly in terms of growth
Depends on what gen your on as well but the hashrate has gone up 650 X since last year according to the coindesk report

7363  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Citigroup to pay $7 billion in subprime mortgages probe on: July 16, 2014, 04:09:24 AM
The only thing that matters here is that none of the banksters are going to prison for extended amounts of time, let alone any time at all. Are any of these guys going to be forgoing salaries and compensation for the next 6 years to make up for it or any multi-million dollar fines being levied against everyone in management each? The answer to all is Nope.

Yep just how our financial system is built if you have the money you stole from someone else you can use it to get away Scot free on things
If the company underperformed no worries you still get your options and bonus good times here have even more.
Basically no responsibility for their failures if things go down the drain you can get hired somewhere else its a revolving door after all.
7364  Economy / Economics / Re: The light bulb conspiracy. Planned obsolescence. on: July 16, 2014, 03:57:04 AM
I have had several cars break down right after the warranty expires. Our most recent purchase was a Chrysler and we joked about setting aside several hundred dollars for the approaching warranty expiration date. About 2 weeks after that date the trans axle failed.  Angry

Planned obsolescence disguised as people want newer and better things
In reality it's that our old stuff breaks after a while so we need to get new stuff (-_-)

Anyways we are wasting a lot of resources as a society on this so I hope that the mindset starts shifting again
I've had it happen so many times I've lost count however call it luck I have been able to extend their lifespans TV used fixya
Fridge Vacuumed it was a bunch of dust
Computer same problems it's a battle of will.

ING: Future Bitcoin Protocol Should Include Central Bank Functions

Just went what was that about.

The inventors of that successful algorithm would make such a momentous step forward that they would surely qualify for the Nobel Prize in economics.”

Ha-ha congrats satoshi you already did it lol
7366  Economy / Economics / Re: When will people feel comfortable using BTC ? on: July 16, 2014, 03:34:18 AM
Tech savy type should feel comfortable using it by now.

Well the tech savvy can use it but to make people feel more comfortable in general User accessibility is what is important.
Having more users feeling comfortable using Bitcoin
And having easy to access and use user accessibility is the primary goal now.
7367  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-14] Bitcoin Mining Company Buys Critical Site To Improve Search Results on: July 16, 2014, 03:27:35 AM
Call me crazy but wouldn't it be much simpler to just deliver what they promise? Buying up websites that are critical is just window dressing. They simply do not seem to comprehend the power of business ethics or a lack thereof.

That assumes they want to deliver for them its more like lets have people loan us money to make more miners that we can then use to mine Bitcoins after they are useless we will ship them out.

Still a better model than delivering their promise for BFL lol.
7368  Economy / Economics / Re: The one law that would bring peace during an Economic Collapse on: July 16, 2014, 03:22:10 AM
Pass a law limiting the amount of homes you can own down to one house per person.

Facepalm not going to work Smiley
As the others have mentioned way to many problems with this type of policy and too many cats in one house Smiley (Imagines the cat ladies of the world)
7369  Economy / Economics / Re: BRICS establish $100bn bank, currency pool to cut out Western dominance on: July 16, 2014, 03:20:37 AM
I wonder if the bombings in Russia and China are in reaction to this from the United States
Fear of a replacement financial system.

7371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I lost 10 units of fiat, Bitcoin could have prevented this. on: July 16, 2014, 03:11:06 AM
Credit cards solve this too. Problem if you lose the card you need to pay a fee to make a new one.

And once I lost 10 fiats, only to found then some months later in some pant

Agreed, but a slight inconvenience when shopping with such a card, and I mean in a supermarket, it takes too long, no joke. A line literally forms waiting a few minutes for the transaction to get confirmed, I would only use it in dire situations.

Cards?  Try cash.  I had to explain to the cashier for 20 minutes that they didn't give me the correct change.  I felt like an idiot arguing for that long.  I literally had to do the math on a piece of paper(change from a $50) for them to get it.

With Bitcoin I could have just sent the exact amount.

That would suck most cashiers use their machines so it must have been a rough day to recalculate the amount &_&
My pet peeve is when the store doesn't update their registers and you pay more when something is on sale.

Hmm I wonder if Bitcoin would aggravate that or make it easier new QR each time hmm.
7372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cornerning the Bitcoin market on: July 15, 2014, 01:05:09 PM
Pretty sure it is a dead end since more users means more utility and acceptance
That doesn't mean they can't own a nice percentage of the coins though but it would be difficult to corner without killing the Golden Goose
7373  Other / Off-topic / Re: FIFA World Cup 2014!!! on: July 15, 2014, 12:57:10 PM
Ha-ha that would be the level of walking away with the game  Cool
Anyone know where the World Cup is held in 2018
Know Russia but I mean how many stadiums will they use there were 7-8 in Brazil think, wonder if they will re use Sochi Smiley
I think they will use sochi stadium again Grin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup#Venues
http://stadiumdb.com/tournaments/world_cup/2018
they have some stadiums, famous one are Luzhniki stadium (who hosted UCL 2008 Finals) and Zenit Arena (in st.petersburg)
other stadium are medium capacities (40.000-45.000 seats)
maybe some renovation will make that stadium bigger

Cool thanks for that it looks a bit weird though how some stadiums have large and some small capacities or more like 1 80K 1 60K the rest 45K
Wonder if the same happened In Brazil didn't check the stadium sizes or if they will expand them a bit since they have 4 years
Anyways recycling old stadiums from the Olympics saves cost and utility XD

But that's neat how they are also making new ones will be a fun cup Smiley lot of places to tour.

In that case its good news for him
7375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will apply for a Guinness record on: July 15, 2014, 12:51:36 PM
Wonder if it can break the record as the most valuable asset ever in 10 years, if adoption gets serious and price per BTC goes nuts.  Smiley

That would be cool not sure what the bar is for that though but I would be happy to see it reached Smiley
7376  Other / Politics & Society / Citigroup to pay $7 billion in subprime mortgages probe on: July 15, 2014, 12:18:45 AM
Well Citigroup has to pay
4 billion civil
500 mill states
2.5 billion consumer relief

So 7 Billion they got away with it in the sense they needed to pay a speeding ticket for the financial crisis.
http://www.thestar.com/business/2014/07/14/citigroup_to_pay_7_billion_in_subprime_mortgages_probe.html

In the deal announced Monday, Citigroup will make a $4 billion civil monetary payment to the Justice Department, and another $500 million in compensatory payments to state attourneys general and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

The bank will provide $2.5 billion in consumer relief, which will include financing for construction and preservation of affordable housing, as well as principal reduction and forbearance for residential loans.

CEO Michael Corbat said the settlement ends all pending civil investigations related to its handling of mortgage-backed securities.

No one goes to jail though on this one, so point to the banks.
7377  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 15, 2014, 12:14:25 AM
FXOpen is terminating their campaign after the ninth payment cycle (July 21-23 payment)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=618870.msg7835635#msg7835635

No more serious competition to PD now.

I'm going to miss this campaign as well have been using it consistently and it has been very reliable
Hope something shows up this week to compete against PD

But with PD3 coming out it will be a busy few weeks for those users.
7378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I lost 10 units of fiat, Bitcoin could have prevented this. on: July 15, 2014, 12:07:51 AM
I was thinking someone else just gained 10 units of fiat
Your loss someones gain but aside from that there is always a fanny pack to make 99.9% certain it does not get lost Smiley
Although I prefer my pocket as well so it's very possible that money could fall out of it if I was not being vigilant.

But your right bitcoin would have a password so someone could find it but not use but with cash some kid could find it and then spend it so it depends on how well you secure your cash Smiley.

It would be nice if hardware wallets were simple(with password capabilities) and cost the same amount of money as an Arduino or Raspberry Pi or cheaper, this way you can buy a few of these and have a spare device if something happened to the previous.

7379  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 15, 2014, 12:05:31 AM
Guys dont think about this. this is spam and it wasnt the first from this firstbits. Just an advertisement try-hard. they targeted known list for ASICMINER hodlers before.

Exactly. And if this "dusty thing" will ever happen from AM address before the divs, then don't panic. It will be for verification of direct shares ownership.

Nothing like dust attacks to prove that an address belongs to someone anyways the Shareholder FAQ will hopefully appear in the next few days or so.
(Say hopefully since I have no idea either when it will come)
7380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What was the political view of Satoshi nakamoto? on: July 15, 2014, 12:03:12 AM
He was hardly right wing was he? I'm not sure he ever stated his stance, but I think we can safely say he believes in freedom and fairness.

That's probably right for all we know about Satoshi, we still don't know that much other than his interest in crytography, his education based on how he wrote his whitepaper, and that he ran away around the time of Gavin going to the FBI and the rise of the Silk Road/Wikileaks incident.
Kind of tricky to base an ideology out of that.
