7381  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] $90 PayPal [N] 0.02207 btc on: March 30, 2019, 08:53:29 PM
As stated in the title, I need 0.02207BTC (exactly) and have $90 PayPal, which is preev 1:1 right now.  This can be adjusted if the rate changes drastically.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Drop me a PM with your PP e-mail, and I'll send you my BTC address.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.  Also, I won't deal with anyone under Full Member.

Thanks.

7382  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does Binance crash/freeze regularly for anyone else? on: March 30, 2019, 05:46:31 PM
I already posted in this thread, stating that Binance always worked well for me--and that remains true, but I just did a trade after not having used the site for several months at least, and man....it's slow.  It didn't freeze like how OP experienced, but on my computer at least it takes forever to load.

The login process is just ridiculous as well, and I've always hated it.  I guess I had the 2FA activated, and you have to type in your username and password, then you have to solve that stupid little puzzle, then they send you a text message--and because I hadn't logged in in so long, they also had me verify all of this shit with an e-mail.  Just to log in.

However, once I was logged in and had everything loaded, I did my trade and was able to withdraw the coins with no problem.  No glitches or anything.  Binance might not be perfect by any means, but they're the exchange I'm going to use until something better comes along.  They've got tons of coins to trade, and I found what I needed (PIVX).  I would have used Changelly if they offered that particular coin, but they don't.
7383  Other / Meta / Re: TK808's Merit Source Application [ALT Disc, ANN, ANN Tokens, Services] on: March 30, 2019, 04:54:44 PM
I wouldn't worry about occasionally/accidentally meriting what later turns out to be a plagiarized or otherwise unworthy post.
Yeah, though I would suggest that anyone--not just merit sources--check to see if a post is plagiarized before meriting it, especially if it's being made by a newbie and looks like it was written in a "professional" style.  That might sound like prejudice against newbies...and that's because it is.  It's unfortunate, but the vast majority of lower-ranked accounts are non-English speakers trying to write stuff in English in order to get paid for bounties, and there have been so many examples of them resorting to plagiarism that it's almost the norm at this point.

Avoid sending merits to friends just because they asked. It's fine if it's an otherwise merit-worthy post but the fact of asking should invoke some healthy skepticism.
Agree, and this is the reason why I don't send merits exclusively to you and most of the members of DT1.  Even though the best posts tend to come from that list of members, I don't want my merit-giving behavior to give even the appearance of being a political thing.

The thing is, merit sources are under more scrutiny than the average bitcointalk member, and you definitely don't want to hand out merits to friends, alts, or for any reason other than rewarding a good post.  Oh, and I'm not sure why Cryptopreneurbrainboss can't be a merit source along with TK808.  I think the altcoin sections need multiple merit sources out on patrol.
7384  Other / Meta / Re: Mods now deleting posts regarding them supporting scammers? how far can it go? on: March 30, 2019, 03:41:13 PM
I reported a post recently in a thread I started about PIVX, and it was summarily deleted--so I'm pretty happy with how the mods do their job.  Always have been, because at least they're not sitting on their asses eating donuts.  As an aside, the thread I started was out of genuine curiosity and I'd like some replies, but all I've gotten so far is two shitposts, one of which is still there (but I reported it).  There's no real discussion in Altcoin Discussion.

Cryptohunter, you'd like that thread I think.  When I was searching for PIVX information, I came across a thread you'd started about the coin and if I recall correctly I would have bumped it had it not been locked.  Give the mods a break.  It can't be a simple job trying to moderate a forum where entire sections are infested with garbage.  And that's what I and most DT members have been fighting against for quite some time now.  We just want a forum where there's some actual give and take.
7385  Other / Meta / Re: Being able to comment on the merit given. on: March 30, 2019, 12:06:32 AM
So in addition to reading a whole bunch of posts, looking for some to give a merit or two, the OP wants us to write a justification as well? Like the trust comments?
You all got that right.  Nor would I really care to read the inevitable comments that would accompany most merits:  "Good post", "+1", and the like--and that's if anyone even bothered to comment.  And assuming you had to write something in, you'd probably get mostly incoherent nonsense written by members who just have to fill in a field.  At the very worst it might turn people off the merit system altogether.

Bad idea.
7386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Discussion of PIVX: Community and its future on: March 29, 2019, 07:37:51 PM
Ever since childhood, I've had somewhat of a fascination with passive income.  Back in the day I used to have a passbook savings account at my local bank, which most banks don't even offer anymore.  But the idea of letting my money work for me while I'm off doing other things has long attracted me.  These days, crypto is the hot thing and it's sucked me in.  Not surprisingly, the idea and existence of proof-of-stake coins is very attractive to me, and so after doing a little research I figured I'd give at least one of them a shot.

I owned some PIVX a few months ago and attempted to stake it on my PC with the PIVX core wallet, but as my internet connection was lousy I never actually earned anything, and I ended up selling what I had.  Recently I bought more and I'm going to give it another shot.

My question is:  what is the state of the PIVX community these days?  I searched bitcointalk for threads with PIVX as the main point of discussion, and it seems like all of them are a couple of years old at least.  Does the coin have a lot of support, or is it going to end up in the Yobit 1-satoshi graveyard of shitcoins?  My concern is that if no one is interested in PIVX (or any PoS coin for that matter), there's no point in staking it, much less owning it.  I fully understand that it probably won't ever find real-world use, but if enough people at least think of it as an investment it might have a future.

I'd also like to hear from members who've earned PIVX through staking, specifically how long it usually takes to earn any and what happens if your internet connection is spotty.  I've tried to find answers to those questions but have come up blank.  Thanks everyone.
7387  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Era Newbies are starting to reach Hero Member rank on: March 29, 2019, 06:32:30 PM
Wow, mole0815 definitely has a merit fan in qwk.  I tried looking at some of his posts just to get an idea of whether they're good, but I guess they're mostly in German which I can't read--but the posts at least look like they took some time to put together.  Nice to see someone legitimately earning enough merits to rank up, and especially in the local boards.  It shows newbies that there's hope.

A lot of the other members on the 2nd list I don't recognize, so they must post in sections I don't normally visit.  But the fact that they got enough merits to rank up is some evidence that the addition of all the new merit sources back in September is working out well.

Good thread, OP, as usual.
7388  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Here we are! lovers' of bullish trend. on: March 29, 2019, 05:52:53 PM
I do believe that we all has the desire of seeing bitcoin and cryptocurrencies market be in good condition.
*sigh*

OP, you are full of hope but short on reality.  I had to take a look at preev, since I don't frequently check the price of bitcoin.  As I'm writing this, bitcoin is at $4083.  That's a fantastic price, and I'm very happy it finally broke $4k.  However, if you look at where it's been for the past year I don't think you can call this a bull market or even a bullish trend with any momentum behind it.  It seems quite possible that we're experiencing normal (and random) market fluctuations, with the probability still very high of dropping back to $3500 or lower.

What I'm saying is that OP is crying wolf, driven by emotion.  Hopefully he's not an active trader, else he's going to get pounded by the market.
7389  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 4-year cycle is it real? Probable end year rally for Bitcoin on: March 29, 2019, 04:23:59 PM
Bitcoin is just over 10 years old, and I think that's not nearly enough time to establish a 4-year pattern.

You know, it's human nature to look for patterns everywhere--and we often think something that looks like it has a pattern actually does, when it's not really the case.  That's probably been true ever since we developed frontal lobes, but nowadays people make youtube videos about it and gather followers and likes.  So no, I don't think there's a 4-year cycle at play with bitcoin.  Could we get a rally at the end of the year?  Sure.  It isn't a given, though.

But man, I'd love to see it happen.  It's been a long time since we've felt that old bitcoin-to-the-moon euphoria.
7390  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: March 29, 2019, 08:07:55 AM
@The Pharmacist - I believe there is more destitution and desperation in the US, The UK, Columbia, The Yemen, Gaza, and various other countries than there is in Venezuela, but they don't have so much oil. This means the US doesn't have to destroy their power supplies, and try to block aid from other countries, and steal their gold and assets.
I don't know about that, but I'm pretty ignorant about world affairs.  The US isn't a destitute country in general, nor is the UK for that matter.  In any case, I did see news reports about Venezuelans running out of money, food, and everything else.  I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter to the average citizen of Venezuela how much oil they have right now.  It's got to be absolute chaos there.  I'd love to hear from someone who lives there and is a member of bitcointalk.  Anyone know if they're well-represented here?

During that blackout that I went through in 2011, I remember very vividly being cold and extremely bored.  I'd come to rely so much on technology for entertainment that when the electricity went kaput, it really sucked.  Plus it was winter, so there wasn't a lot to do outside.  I ended up making an olive oil lamp and going through a gigantic jug of pennies and separating out the 95% copper ones from the modern junk zinc pennies.  Talk about eye strain.

Edit:  Jet Cash, why are you stuck in a supermarket parking lot?
7391  Economy / Speculation / Re: 'Bitcoin will run up to $5,000 by May' on: March 29, 2019, 07:55:16 AM
It is likely that this will happen, I absolutely do not exclude the possibility that $ 5000 it will be a new price for Bitcoin in May.
Possible?  Yes.  Probable?  Eh, I'm inclined to believe the opposite.  The price has been inching toward $5k for a couple of weeks, but I can't tell if it's just regular market fluctuations or if it's really an upward trend.  However, I'm not an active trader, so I'm not exactly looking to make a quick buck on a price increase.  It's more of a curiosity mixed with a hope that my small investment will appreciate just a little.

The more people start to believe we're due for a leg up, the less likely it becomes.
Really?  I'd assume the opposite, but my ignorance is legendary.  And then on the lunatic fringe section of Speculation, we've got people predicting bitcoin is going to hit $50k and beyond by the end of 2019.  I have a thread bookmarked that I'm going to bump at the end of the year, because the OP was so confident about his wild prediction that it made me slap my forehead.  Literally.  I don't know what drives these people's wild hopes.
7392  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: March 29, 2019, 07:46:05 AM
I could not describe him as black.
Has the term "black" become offensive or something now?  This is the reason I hate politically correct terminology--it keeps changing with the times, and any term you use to refer to a identity-sensitive group will eventually wear out and become naughty.  I cannot stand the term "African-American" because it does not describe a person in general terms.  The black person could be Canadian or whatever, and it just drives me nuts.

Anyway.  I just bought a nice Dietz lantern that should come in handy for power outages, which I'm now trying to prepare for.  I've been thinking lately about how my town had no power for about 3 days and I was caught unprepared--and it was freezing.  There was what the town called a 'warming center' where people could go so as not to freeze to death, and I had to go there to charge my cell phone.  It was truly an awful experience, and I can't imagine what Venezuelans are going through.  At least it's not really cold there, but they've got so many problems on top of the power cut that they've got to be suffering.

I also got a nice hand-crank radio with a light on it, and it's also solar-powered.  Very cool stuff.

7393  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Abuse? on: March 29, 2019, 07:25:45 AM
Yep, that's probably what's happening here.  Hhampuz made a thread about this same thing recently, where people were somehow coming up with the required merits for his signature campaign right before applying.  The consensus (I think) was that he'd have to manually check posts like this to see if they were actually merit-worthy, and if he or another campaign manager looked at this one, he'd obviously realize the merit was traded.

Good catch.  There's no logical reason for anyone to be receiving merits for a signature campaign application.  That's ridiculous.  But as far as DT members tagging these fools, I doubt it's going to happen.  I wish it would, but it probably won't.

Edit:
And just like I said, Hhampuz won't accept those cheaters in his campaign.
Yeah well, he's one of the good campaign managers, and there are only a few.  The rest--and I think this includes all of the bounty managers--won't care one bit if someone buys merit, because merits aren't a part of getting accepted into those shitty campaigns.
7394  Other / Meta / Re: TK808's Merit Source Application [ALT Disc, ANN, ANN Tokens, Services] on: March 29, 2019, 03:37:45 AM
Yeah, I support this application as well.

Altcoin Discussion and the rest of the alt sections where actual discussion takes place need more merit sources, and I'm sure OP is well aware of this himself after finding out that it's near impossible to earn enough merits to rank up if you post primarily in those sections.  And he's a decent poster himself, so I'm confident he knows what good posts are vs. shitposts.  Hopefully if Theymos brings him on board as a merit source, OP won't waste his sMerits on garbage posts--my guess is that if the altcoin sections are all he reads, 99% of it is going to be crap.

Good luck, bro.
7395  Other / Meta / Re: Small query for mods ? on: March 29, 2019, 02:22:26 AM
I would advise OP to definitely write at least a short description of why he's reporting a post.  If you don't, it might not be obvious to a moderator why that post is being reported--yes, if the reason is because of a referral link or something like that it's pretty easy to tell, but if it's something relatively subjective like spam or trolling, it's not.
7396  Other / Meta / Re: Grant Me Legendary Status on: March 28, 2019, 04:49:50 PM
OP, it's not very likely Theymos is going to make an unprecedented exception for you.

I did take a quick look at your post history, and you must post a lot in sections I have on ignore because I could only see stuff you'd written in Meta.  Are you posting in sections like Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion?  If so, you're never going to earn any merits no matter how good your posts are, because seconds after you write your masterpiece it's going to get buried under an avalanche of BS spam, which is the norm for those sections.

From what I did see, your posts aren't bad.  They're pretty well thought out, and you did earn some merits for them.  My guess is that your posts just aren't getting read by members with sMerits to spare.  If you tell me which sections you normally post in, I'll temporarily unblock them and take a look at some of your writing, maybe give you some merits if the posts are good enough.

Edit:
With all the boards I have on ignore on my phone, your post history shows 20 posts in 4 years.
I'll get you more stats when I'm at my desk.
That's exactly what's happening when I view his posts.  The only ones I can see are in Meta, and there's no way in hell I'm going to un-ignore any sections without knowing which ones he's posted in beforehand.
7397  Other / Meta / Re: Why was my account banned? Or locked?? on: March 28, 2019, 12:47:01 PM
Was there anything else in the PM you got?  If you got banned for something like plagiarism or spamming, it will tell you exactly that.  If you got locked out for security reasons, like failing the security question when trying to log in, I'm not sure if they tell you that.  From what you wrote, it sounds like it might be something like the latter and hopefully for your sake it is.

The good thing is that if you did just get locked out, account recoveries are supposed to be much quicker these days.  If it was about 6 months ago, you could pretty much kiss your account goodbye.

Edit:
I don't think it's a PM, it's probably shown on the screen when the OP tries to log in.
Ah, gotcha.  The coffee has not yet kicked in, apparently.  And good luck to OP.  Sounds like he wasn't banned, just locked out for whatever reason.
7398  Economy / Economics / Re: What the true believers know but don't express well on: March 28, 2019, 12:27:49 PM
I think that the average bitcoin believer isn't very rich.
From what I've seen on this forum in the past 4 years, I'd say you're most likely correct.  I also get the impression that a lot of members of this forum are interested in earningmoney, not necessarily bitcoin or any other crypto.  In other words, they aren't hardcore crypto enthusiasts, HODL'ers, and they might not even be particularly passionate about what form of money they earn.  Don't get me wrong, it's still good to have people from all over the world earning crypto via signature campaigns and bounties, but I don't suspect a lot of them would continue to be involved in it if those sources dried up.

True believers are not Profit hunters.
I get your point and agree with you, but only to an extent.  My guess is that even true believers want to get rich, and it's only natural for them to want that.  Pretty much everyone does.
7399  Economy / Reputation / Re: [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source on: March 28, 2019, 11:54:01 AM
Re: Be careful, Google knows more about you than you can imagine!
Category: technical answer
Section: Serious Discussion
I gave out a few merits for the above topic, as it was the only recent one that isn't too technical for me to grasp what people are saying.  I have a hard time giving out merits when I can't confidently evaluate whether a post is true and of good quality.  This is why I tend not to merit stuff in the technical discussion sections, and unfortunately that's what most members are linking to in this thread.

Good to see this is still going on.  I'd love to see more activity, more links to good posts.  When my computer was busted for a couple of weeks, I kind of built up a stockpile of sMerits which I'm now trying to unload.
7400  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela hit by new nationwide powercut for more than three days on: March 28, 2019, 10:26:45 AM
Yeah, this is yet another reason why bitcoin isn't proving to be very useful to Venezuelan citizens during their crisis--no electricity means no way to pay for anything via electronic means.  And yeah, I'm sure bitcoin mining is taking a huge hit there as well.

My state got hit with severe blackouts in 2011, right around Halloween, and my town was completely out of power for over 3 days.  It was horrible--very cold, and there was no way to charge my cellphone or buy food.  Luckily the water was still flowing.  It must be absolutely devastating for Venezuela, where they're dealing with all sorts of other deprivation on top of not having electricity.  The only positive is that it isn't freezing cold like it was for my area back in 2011.

Anyway, as an aside....this is why everyone ought to keep at least a little amount of cash on their person.  You never know when the power is going to go out, and food/water/supplies run out quicker than you think.  If you're relying on even a debit or credit card, good luck trying to use that when stores no longer have power.  The first store that opened in my area while the power was out was a Walgreens pharmacy, and they were only taking cash.  It was such a relief to buy some food and a bottle of Coca-Cola, but I only was able to do that because I had some cash on me.

Since then I've also started keeping batteries, food, money, and a wind-up/solar radio with cellphone charger in my house for just such occasions.  I'm not a hardcore prepper, but experience has taught me that I'll probably see another serious power outage in my lifetime.

Oh yeah--I wish I'd heard of bitcoin back in 2011 during that power cut.  I would have been rolling in money right now.
