coinkite is easily the biggest thing to hit blackcoin. Realize that NO OTHER ALTS are even being considered

eh, ...apart from QRK, DOGE, PPC, LTC, AUR, WDC <-- Huh.....
7382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 09, 2014, 01:07:21 PM

Blackcoinpool just passed 3 Gh/s scrypt.
7383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NXT] Decentralized Asset Exchange Discussion Thread on: April 09, 2014, 11:36:00 AM

[1] - Could somebody send me some text NxT for Wesley's web interface testnet use ? (When I try to use the 'send test NXT link, I receive an error: "amountNQT" not specified")

[2] - I'm trying to register an asset (using same interface) but get an error when I do so. Is there a guide for the asset registration somewhere that I can use to familiarise myself ?

Thanks !
7384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Besides Doge, who are the 3 top Alt coins? on: April 09, 2014, 08:16:24 AM
NXT - Intensive development efforts. Asset exchange in beta. Very exciting new network services which will guarantee demand for the currency
DRK - If darksend works it will be in huge demand, even from users of non-anonymous currencies
BC -   Their multi-pool concept may change the landscape of crypto and force everyone into POS except BTC and LTC
MYR - Most undervalued coin at the moment. Multi-algo offers many advantages including fast tran-times

Also...

VTC - I've got some but I don't really know why
LTC - Its on Huobi

Mintpal has a bit of an elephantine sellwall at 9.5 to 10.

They must have been placed there ages ago and forgotten about because nobody's coming back to pull them, meanwhile Cryptsy's one's almost gone.
7386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 06:07:38 PM
Pool now at 2.3 GH/s scrypt.
7387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 06:06:26 PM
Do you think a PoS coin will be successful in the future or nothing special? The $15 million per day energy cost of keeping BTC alive is a pretty crazy number if it keeps increasing

I think POS is the future.

But that's just an algo. You can create a POS coin in seconds. You can convert POW coins to POS with a hardfork.
7388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 05:50:09 PM
Can you state your purpose in a single sentence here

To determine at what price I should dump. I can usually work that out for myself but subscribers to this thread seem to think that this coin is somehow more that just another alt "with a twist" so I decided to try to get to the bottom of why that was.

However, when I do that, all I get is hype about marketing and future value so I'm not having much success.
7389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 05:38:42 PM
ok... i think you just proved colin's point that you look at things way to vaguely. If you consider a high inflation pow coin similar to the low inflation pos coin then pretty much you just outed yourself as a moron.

Its a pretty massive difference.

It's not a massive difference in the context of the altcoin market as a whole. Only when those two are compered in isolation.

The point I'm making is that the fortunes of the altcoin market as a whole generally far outweigh the ability of any one project to assert it's dominance by virtue of any technical, economic or marketing property.

They are basically all clones of each other and the instances of genuine originality are very rare. The 2nd generation coins have a bit more of a chance because they actually offer services which take up to a year to develop - and that's just the blockchain infrastructure. Then there's another year for the client infrastructure, so they're clearly going to be distinct and original by the time that much development effort's gone into them.

No alts are used for anything. They just sit there as speculative objects on the shelf and nothing more. It doesn't matter what their properties are other than as a speculative slant because they won't be around long enough to see any action.
7390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 05:24:04 PM
Erm... No it doesn't. It suffers from extremely high coin inflation, a flawed distribution model. All it has is multiple mining algorithms which mean nothing to non-miners.

LoL. You're kind of making my point for me.

This kind of nitpicking is all there is to choose between one alt coin and another. That's why none of them ever make a dent in Bitcoin's dominance, nor will they after this year.
7391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 05:12:53 PM
but at the end of the year I hope to see you around so I can say "I told you so".

I'll be only too happy to oblige. I've been wrong about plenty things and don't mind being proved wrong again, I just see what I see and once you've seen the same pattern a few times an element of predictability starts accompanying these observations.

For example Myriadcoin has a load of "interesting" distinguishing features just like BC did at the start but it's sitting there as yet unpumped at 450 Satoshis - one tenth of BC's value even corrected for coin supply. I'd be hard pushed to guess which one had the more upside at this point regardless of whatever long term factors apply.

I want to specifically call on all who are not believers in Blackcoin

Investing isn't a religion.

It involves the use of a calculator not a bible.
7393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 04:49:00 PM
There will always be room for competition and eventually Bitcoin will lose appeal because its POW model is not sustainable over time

You're reading too much into the Proof of Stake thing and your logic contains an awful lot of wishful thinking and assumptions.

The first time I came across a coin with such a fanatical community was Worldcoin. Exactly the same recipe - they thought their coin was going to take over the world because it had fast transaction times.

That's how silly your argument looks right now. There is nothing in Blackcoin that isn't heading straight for obsolescence in terms of novelty value within a couple of months. It will probably gain in value due to the multi pool effect but not from anything else and the multi-pool support will be short lived once it's found to work because everybody will be doing it and everybody will be proof of stake and everybody will be investing 6 figure sums in marketing and everybody will have an amazing community.

The only thing "everybody" won't have is the slightest bit of traction on bitcoin.
7394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 04:29:15 PM
Doge has massive inflation right now, that's why it is dropping

That may be to some extent but its price profile follows that of just about every other coin that's been launched in the last 4 months.

Most people who invest in alt coins these days don't do so as a long term hold. Alt coins are a liquidity proxy for bitcoin. Sure people are interested in 'features' but only so they can discern which ones are likely to be more competitive in the short term, not the long term, because they've no interest in holding them long term.

I don't think people realise what a loosing game it is trying to imagine that anything's going to "replace" bitcoin.

There's been a flotilla of alt coins of every shape, size, algo, marketing theme - you name it. Not one of them has even put a dent in Bitcoin. Maybe Litecoin made a scratch but even that can't even get really get remotely near it.

People buy alts to get more Bitcoin - for no other serious reason.

Towards the end of this year, the final nail in the coffin for bitcoin contenders will appear when the Bitcoin ETFs start to come on the scene, such as the Winklevosse's one. It takes years to get an ETF through all the regulatory red tape and onto a stockmarket listing. You've no idea how far ahead Bitcoin is in so many areas regarding so called 'network effect'. Not to mention the reputation for integrity it's going to have after shaking off all the Gox FUD legacy and associated attempts by the mainstream press to kill it off.

You think a $300,000 supernova marketing campaign's a match for any of that ? It's mickey mouse territory.

7395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 04:07:58 PM
in this case you are not taking into account the "hype" or "marketing" factor

I don't think that is going to make squat difference to the value of the coin, at least in the long term. Dogue had massive marketing appeal but it's been on a permanent 45 degree angle trajectory towards zero for the best part of 2 months now. Every now and then there's an attempt to resurect it with a big buy in which last about 24 hours before going back down like a lead ballon.

The most interesting thing about Blackcoin is the multi-pool concept and the effect this is going to have on the market for other coins - specially the ones that fall within Blackoin's targeting policy.

The pool hashrate is now becoming significant. It's not clear how this is going to change the dynamics of the market but I suspect it will have a significant impact that may possibly change the landscape of this sector forever. That doesn't mean that BC will be the sole beneficiary though - it doesn't 'own' the concept of multi-mining even though there's clearly some short term gain to be had.

Some of the koolaid drinkers around here just haven't been around long enough to realise that no coin has the luxury of being sole heir to the Bitcoin legacy but they'll find out soon enough.

NXT doesn't really draw my interest. BC can bump both out of the way fast

If I could find a grain of logic in that statement I'd actually consider ploughing some more money into BC.

NXT is a 2nd generation crypto. It's Blackcoin on steroids. There actually exist solid business reasons for buying NXT other than using it as a currency or speculation. Saying that BC can "Bump" it out of the way belies about as much understanding of this market as a road sweeper does of civil engineering.

No one in their right mind would dump NXT for Blackcoin because even if it doesn't succeed as a currency, there are a ton of other viable business models for it.
7397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 01:42:52 PM
I don't see 2000. The only "competitors" I see are the 18 positions ahead of us on coinmarketcap.com (including NXT). That's all.

That's ok. There are plenty who will.

Wait till you see how easily everyone converts their "coin" to proof of stake with a single hard fork.

Don't kid yourself that BC has - or will ever have - anything approaching the network effect that Bitcoin or litecoin do.

On which Law do you refer?

The law that says it's easier to gain "network effect" when there's 2 competitors than when there's 2000.
7399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 01:25:41 PM
I mean why Bitcoin had a ton of hype but lost nearly all of it's value once there were equal or better alternatives and it wasn't "new" any more... oh wait a minute...

Don't kid yourself that BC has - or will ever have - anything approaching the network effect that Bitcoin or litecoin do.

When BC was sitting at 500 satoshi this board was wrapped up with FUD of all sorts. Most of it was childish with a few fud posts being somewhat intelligent. I ignored all that fud and purchase the coin based on the merits of the coin. Purchased about 20k BC at the 500 price then later purchased more as it went up.

I did exactly the same back then. I could see this coin was going to have a good chance of reaching a fairly high valuation because it was one of the first new POS currencies plus multipool etc, so there was a good basis for speculation.

But it's now 20 times the valuation it was then. We are now in a very different situation - there are few distinguishing features anymore at this price. There's nothing that other coins "don't have" to push it to the kind of heights people are promoting on here. The only road is down, not up, because the one thing that underwrites a coin value more than anything else is **novelty** and that is a battle against time that can only be lost, regardless of what features and promotion may say.

The cryptocurrency world has an unassailed ability to price in any property or event that could possibly favour the coin's value weeks and months in advance. With that in mind you can be fairly confident that anything positive that can happen to this coin in the next 3 months is well priced in by now.
