741  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Moneypaktrader is a scammer on: August 10, 2013, 08:22:06 AM
Pardon my ignorance, but I see his trust rating is:

    -7: -2 / +0(0)
Warning: Trade with extreme caution!

How do I find out more about the situations that led up to this?  When this warning is added to someone's profile is it due to a particular thread/discussion involving moderators?

This is completely unacceptable.

Are there any Japanese citizens that could comment on this organization?

http://www.caa.go.jp/en/

Can a foreigner pursue a complaint against Mtgox in this fashion?
746  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is BTC-E kidding me? on: August 06, 2013, 05:57:09 AM
This anti-fraud.
This requirement interkassa!

When this is anti-fraud, why you are releasing the money to me?
And do not wait 24 hours?

Don't you unterstand, that I have already buy BTC for the USD I deposit?
What is, when the seller will now withdraw the USD from me and
Interkassa will not release the money? Thats the biggest shit I ever heard ...

If you do not like the requirements, do not use btc-e!

That is some impressive customer service.  I think it is obvious that NOBODY should be using btc-e!

If any of you have bank accounts in the United States, what you need to do is look at this 8000 view thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237164.0

All you have to do to get your money off of MtGox (if you have a major US bank account) is the following:

Request your withdrawal in the form of btc, instead of a wire transfer. It is the wire transfers causing the delays.

Once you have your btc, you simply escrow it with Bitcoin-Brokers who will direct buyers to make a cash deposits into your bank account of choice.

People are getting paid above MtGox for their btc. This eliminates the need to wait for a wire transfer and it eliminates the cost of the wire transfer fee.

Are you talking about http://www.bitcoin-brokers.org/?

I'm getting really frustrated with this too.  Mtgox needs to explain themselves.
749  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MTGOX has not paid us since 26th of June! on: August 06, 2013, 05:49:36 AM
This is a huge problem.  When you run a business, you expect that your partners will act with integrity.  Here is what they have to say:

“It currently takes up to 10 days to process a deposit because our bank, upon receiving deposits, notifies us of the deposit but holds them for 7-10 days before transferring them to our account. This has always been the case, and we were still crediting customer accounts before receiving the funds ourselves, but some cases in which the bank subsequently rejected the deposits meant that we incurred significant losses.

“The risk is now too high for us to credit accounts prematurely. We are in the process of forming relationships with new partners, banks, and taking other steps — hopefully we will not only be back where we were before we encountered these issues, but much further ahead.”

This is simply a lie.  If what they are saying is true, then in 20 days you would be paid.  Obviously Swiss Enterprises has not been paid within 20 days and there are others on this forum in a similar situation.  This needs to stop.  All signs point to liquidity problems at Mtgox and this destroys confidence in bitcoin as a whole.

Wow I guess "Norman" really hates bitcoin.  It is hilarious that he edited my post.  I asked if they were an Amish-owned company.  LOL.
752  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: April 18, 2013, 04:32:37 PM
I also want to know exactly how this works.  If the encrypted blob is just sent then all anyone ever needs to do is visit the wallet URL one time and they have your encrypted blob.
I would assume that the process goes like this:

a) ID and 2FA transmitted via plaintext (https of course), and the password is hashed before being transmitted.

b) Server compares the three variables (ID, 2FA, PW), if either one does not match (even if the other 2 matches), the blob is not sent to the browser.

c) Password at the local browser is used to decrypt the blob.

the source code is here: https://github.com/blockchain/My-Wallet/blob/master/wallet.js

the wallet clientside javascript sends the 2FA and the ID over and gets an encrypted wallet blob back - the password is never sent to blockchain.info

Sounds like enabling 2FA does defend against a certain class of offline attacks, especially when your wallet has an easily guessable identifier.

Will
Oh, I forgot this is open source. Thanks for the clarification - I was under the assumption that the PW hash are compared before the blob is even sent. Guess everyone should stick with long hard passwords now - a service like LastPass or KeePass would be useful.

I disable Lastpass for the site.  Seems dangerous to use it- no?  I don't trust LastPass that much!

Approximate ETA 30 minutes - 1 hour.

Still down for me.  Is it still down for everyone else as well?

Yep
754  Economy / Economics / Re: what keeps the price down? on: April 18, 2013, 03:03:06 AM
This thread, and the thousands like it, is garbage.

You'd get better information by turning on a random financial news station and pretending that everything they were saying was about bitcoin.  Bitcoin is traded on a bunch of open markets, meaning that the "price" is set by the crowd.  Some people in the crowd will have reasons, maybe even good reasons, but the crowd itself does not.  It just is.  Trying to figure out the crowd by looking at a few members is counterproductive.  Not only will you fail to learn anything, but you will typically get a false sense of understanding.

Bitcoin is volatile because it is small.  A few million dollars can drive the instant price way up, and a few million bitcoins can drive it way down.  Until it stops being small, no other reason is necessary or meaningful.  If bitcoin is trading in a range between 50 million dollars and 250 million dollars per 1 BTC over the course of a month, it might be worth looking at.  Until then, stop looking for scapegoats and reasons.  There are none of either to be found.

I think Adam Smith would disagree with you, but I respect your right to your opinion.  I also agree with you partially- the crowd is often not logical but trades based on fear and greed.

OK Cupid has 3.5 million users!
757  Economy / Economics / Re: what keeps the price down? on: April 17, 2013, 01:58:11 PM
Nothing fundamentally changed for bitcoin, it is just people's fear keep the price down, since they have never seen such fast price rise for anything and they can't believe it is possible. So they think this is a scam/bubble and they sell when their weak nerve can't take it anymore  Wink

Yeeeeessssss.

1. miners selling

2. bad press

3. mtgox's failures

4. worry of government interference

5. money fleeing safe havens (gold and silver are down lately too)

6. merchants afraid of another crash sell right away

7. fear of the rapidly rising price and lack of trust/knowledge in the bitcoin model (it must be a bubble!  sell, sell!  how does bitcoin work again?)

758  Economy / Economics / Re: what keeps the price down? on: April 17, 2013, 04:46:26 AM
The best thing for bitcoin would be to change the algorithm to produce steady increase of money supply.

I do hope you are just trolling.  You already have fiat currencies if you want something that is worth less and less over the years- why re-invent the wheel?
759  Economy / Economics / Re: what keeps the price down? on: April 15, 2013, 04:04:20 PM
i'm merchant . if last 3 months I would hoard coins, now I sell them as soon as I get them

Thank you!!!

760  Economy / Economics / Re: what keeps the price down? on: April 15, 2013, 10:51:15 AM
What keeps the price up?

And what is up and what is down, in a long run?

I guess upward pressures are a different topic.  I don't mean what keeps it down at 100.  I meant what are the various types of downward pressure that we are dealing with at present.  This might be true whether we are at $100 or $1000.
