You're putting the cart before the horse.

Not if there was no precedent ^^
There has never been a large-scale, decentralized, secure network before.

The cart would be a centralized bank where the money is issued from with a single central point of failure.

Pseudo-anonymity doesn't withhold one's identity from sufficiently capable (and determined) adversaries. Roll Eyes
Unless your a true one address at a time user with a proxy using a mixer then you just win lol.
Can't think of a trace for that.
Physical money is also "good enough for most purposes."

But its just one App in the Bitcoin machine ^^

Bitcoin transactions could be sent in the clear and unencrypted over open networks without fear of compromise, which allowed the infrastructure to be open to any participant or software application without vetting, authorization or identification.

“The ability to innovate without permission at the edge of the bitcoin network is the same fundamental force that has driven internet innovation for 20 years at a frenetic pace, creating enormous value for consumers, economic growth, opportunities and jobs.”

This would in turn drive innovation by providing the opportunity to invent whole new decentralized security mechanisms “based on innovations like smart contracts, multi-signature escrow, decentralized audits, hardware wallets, and algorithmic proof of reserves”.

Andreas has a way with his words.

If the shtf and silver is worth $1000/oz, i'll come over and take your solar panels for the silver while you are in your bunker.

I would respect that because for Petes sake I forgot to put a gun in the BUNKER  Grin
Ok and add a generator to power an electric fence discretely over the solar panels Wink (when someone activates a sensor) (Or landmines around them if you can find those things but that might be overkill)

Like a game of minesweeper
Step on the right squares to get there and you win the grand prize else ...

society isnt about to collapses tho...

its good to be prepared, 72 hour kit is a must, shit happens, flood, tornado, solar fairs, aliens, wtv.

but a Bomb shelter... really? you want to live in a world where you need a Bomb shelter, no more hookers and blow, no more internet!?  i'd rather die  Tongue

I was thinking there would be enough surviors to buy the hookers off and get the blow locally grown
What government ^_^

(else build a cloning lab)
Going to need to upgrade that bunker to an underground research facillity and put some stuff there.

(But no more internet just have enough porn downloaded to last a few generations but your right no internet would drive anyone mad its like camping forever...)
Or I guess you just found a use for all the CD's and games in the store ... never mind EMP

Assuming you didn't get a digital copy made before the internet went out and the bunker was sheltered well enough mmm you wouldn't get too bored.

Someone at the age of 13, nevertheless someone younger than 13, isn't nearly as developed as even a 20 year old is, both physically and mentally. The law stands that adults can not engage in sexual acts with minors because of the reasons I listed above(children being gullible and easy to take advantage of, physically weaker/undeveloped etc).

Interesting fact - up until a few years ago, sex with a 14 year old was legal in Canada.  They recently raised the age to 16.

I wonder if society will start saying 18 then 20 then 25
As our lifespans grow longer
Inflation in a sense.

The ancients used 12-15 as their baseline for marriage and sex

We already have 22 as the HS in Algeria and China for Male Consent for Marriage interestingly enough so I think society will probally keep 18 as the main value unless we get some weird arguements to keep raising that age up as well.
(Like we have overpopulation so no sex till your older, I guess the reverse could work as well if there was a World War and a giant population loss thinking about it)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age#History_and_social_attitudes

Either way as long as we don't get too far out in ages
Wouldn't want feminist arguement to make age of consent 27 extraprolating 100 years from now.

Well unless they introduced some reasonable close-in-age exceptions.
At 27 That rather be 10 years lol.
It can get smaller closer to 18

In June 2006, the Canadian government proposed a bill to raise the age of consent from 14 to 16 (in 1890 it was raised from 12 to 14), while creating a near-age exemption for sex between 14–15 year olds and partners up to 5 years older, and keeping an existing near-age clause for sex between 12–13 year olds and partners up to 2 years older. The initiative also maintains a temporary exception for already existing marriages of minors 14 and 15 years old to adults, but forbids new marriages like these in the future.[38] The law took effect 1 May 2008.

Either way it was not without its controversy fun stuff
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent_reform_in_Canada

Organizations

Canadian AIDS Society

The Canadian AIDS Society has stated that "increasing the age of consent could result in young people being more secretive about their sexual practices and not seeking out the information they need. This will place youth at an increased risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections."

Canadian Federation for Sexual Health

This proposal has received criticism from different organizations and individuals. Andrea Cohen of the pro-choice Canadian Federation for Sexual Health (formerly International Planned Parenthood Federation) said the organization believes the legislation does nothing to keep youth from harm. She talked on CTV News Channel's "Mike Duffy Live" where she stated: "What it will do is infringe upon the rights of youth in terms of their ability to make decisions on their own sexuality". Later (in 2007) her organization issued an official position statement.

Child Welfare League of Canada

Peter Dudding, Executive Director of the Child Welfare League of Canada, criticized the bill's effect of removing judicial discretion in cases involving 14 and 15 year-olds: "When we deal with arbitrary cut-offs, we lose the flexibility to apply the law in a much more specific and individualized kind of way."

I have not had much success introducing people to bitcoin. I thought a good awareness of fiat currency inflation combine with some medium IT skill would be enough, but alas, no. Do you guys have any experiences?

It's difficult to explain
And it takes a whitepaper for the point to get across otherwise people just draw blanks for a while

In a few words or less it is a distributed transaction and ledger based system that allows people to transfer infromation and units of value over the internet smoothly and succintly at lower costs than banks and other similar services.

The proper term is digital money to some and Bitcoin to the rest of us who know what else it can do Smiley
"Distributed," there, means "relies on someone else." Physical exchange of bills doesn't rely on others. Roll Eyes

Ah but distributed also means dispersed over a network in the sense that no one transaction belongs to anyone in particular hence its pseudoanonymous
It's a play on words Tongue

That said explain bitcoin in two sentences and see what you get ^_^.

It will be fast

750  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The official "what about the roads?" thread on: October 16, 2014, 03:31:34 AM
This thread is solely for people who can think. People who can think outside of the box to post how they would create a road system or a way for people to travel without the need for government.

You can describe it on a small scale, at the city or county level, the state level or nationally.

Your system must allow people to have easement enough to leave their homes and get to the road system.

I have self moderated this thread to allow people to throw out ideas without people nitpicking every little idea to death.

I will throw my ideas out there but would like to see what others think (please do not just post links to other private road systems).

As a bonus, how would you incorporate Bitcoin into your system? Smiley

Seems fun enough

Why not just clear cut a roadway then use it as a private road no government needed kind of like the olden days where people carved their own paths and once enough people used it someone paved it for a fee, but as an aside lets see.

A way for people to travel without the need for government, simple enough put rollerblades on shoes then add an electric generator to them produce electricity while moving and rolling around and get from A to B, kind of like an electric bicycle.

Then there are toll roads people love using those as an example to escape the good old tradgedy of the commons but in my opinion a transit system entriely underground beats a road most days.

If we went underground for transportation besides high inital overhead costs no congestion no easements for indiviudals and if we get magnetic trains going, all privately funded perhaps with Bitcoin and then a credit system that debits bitcoin instantly from your balance to use it might have futuristic transportation models.

After all if a High speed train using magnetic rail and having a perfect right of way underground can compete with a plane, why bother with the sky route.
(Or I guess to add a bonus could even get a whole entire lighted railway system using solar panels)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2Ra2_RrnKc

Personally I like the idea of pods that seems fun kind of like ski gondolas
http://www.fastcolabs.com/3034687/new-jersey-is-testing-solar-power-commuter-pods

My vote is for the pods they look cool and they can pretty much substitute and replace cars and roadways with perhaps a bit more infrastrucutre
(Train on top)
Put the pods on the bottom of the track which is unused currently piggybacking (or perhaps even on sidewalks or a bunch of pods for a roadway instead of cars)

Ah the mad scientist in me smiles at the pod future XD
http://vimeo.com/87069041

Anyways the pod idea I posted links but it wasn't mentioned yet so apologies looked neat enough and it was hard to explain without those nice illustrations
We are all human packets moving along a transporation grid ^_^

Anybody think gold will ever hit its all time high again. Charts look like twins

idk gold was pricing in a zombie apocalypse...

honestly expect gold to lose a lot of its speculative value to bitcoin in the coming years. silver is a far better choice for long term value store, for many reasons.

but i expect both this things to perform horribly for a little while longer

looking for 12$ silver!

I've always been more partial to exotic metals like Palladium for some reason
Not sure why people like Gold so much besides the gold standard
Silver I see the utility of in components
BTC the Digital version

I like silver a lot!

It has all the right properties for use as money, even if in this modern age it is pretty clear it will never be used as money, still nice to have.
It has many industrial uses, some of which are in growth like solar panels.
It gets you a lot of metal hoard for your buck, some poeple like gold because they can store a lot of value in a small space, but i ain't rich, i'd end up with 1 or 2  1oz gold coin if i invested in gold...thats no fun...
Its shinny as fuck.

I have a few little silver coins myself, and i love'm

but the price isn't right, it makes more sense for me to make a lump sum on my house and save on interest.

historically PM's don't even keep up with inflation, sure they seem to have a bit of a bubble every now and then and catch up all the  inflation thats been happening, but ya...

its a safe investment in a lot of way, can never go to 0, plus all the good things listed above.

but safe investment isn't really an investment at all... no risk no reward.

its just nice to have...

We all like Shiny Things that is the basis of society from time immemorial don't worry your not alone (precious fiat coin collection)
(Lol in a simple form of the term)
http://www.fastcodesign.com/3024766/evidence/an-evolutionary-theory-for-why-you-love-glossy-things

As an investment whatever I can use if society collapses is probally what I would consider the best investment to be honest.
Absolute value

(Food) (A bunch of Honey then the rest ^_^ not only delicious but liquid)
http://offgridsurvival.com/survivalfood/
(Bomb Shelter or Bunker assuming shit really hit the fan and an underground reservoir of water to access)
Or we can squeeze it out of rocks ...
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/next/earth/huge-underground-reservoir-holds-three-times-much-water-earths-oceans/
(Silver for my Electronic components assuming I put some manufacturing items in the bomb shelter to make stuff its malleable for silverware)
Oh and some Silicon for solar panels
The rest of the stuff assuming their is still barter could be acquried using the above.

About 20g of silver is used in every crystalline solar photovoltaic panel made so good point
http://www.ibtimes.com/silver-could-see-slow-upside-solar-panels-amid-chinese-war-pollution-1561163
So maybe its an investment in the future not immediate short but gradual long term stuff.

You know what, at this point in time paedophile may be a legitimate excuse for privacy
Since it gets thrown so often as one of the fear words because their is nothing else they can do but throw FUD and see if it sticks.

Good comment here

Oh yeah because before there were iPhone's we didn't have kidnappers and terrorists. I want my privacy. I have nothing to hide but I shouldn't have to defend my right to privacy either.

Would having a (optional) minimum btc deposit amount stop the spammers? If you had an option in the wallet to only accept payments over say 1000 satoshis, it might deter people from spamming dust. Just a random thought

A weird title name to an even stranger article

The digital currency is used by a small, but growing, number of Australian businesses and has also been adopted by criminals.

"Several million dollars" worth of bitcoins were seized under the Confiscation Act, the report said.

So more governments have some Bitcoin now they need to sell it and make it legal  Wink

Instead of saying cops always know best
Then again could just be another race issue since the sandwich could be sketch guess it just points to a larger problem of police forces using lethal force instead of non lethal force
