Yesterday when India women made 282/8, I though that they had a good chance to win. They were 134/5 when Deepti Sharma got out, but then made a good recovery thanks to the partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar. But then, apart from the two opening bowlers (Renuka Singh Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar), none of the Indians managed to trouble the Australian batters. Saika Ishaque was disappointing in her debut, returning figures of 6-0-48-0. Anyway, two more matches remain in this series.

Looks like the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars will get washed out. Hurricanes got bowled out for just 155, with Haris Rauf and Glenn Maxwell taking 3 wickets apiece for Melbourne Stars. Imad Wasim and Usama Mir also did a decent job, by picking up 1 wicket each. Caleb Jewell and Macalister Wright made decent contributions for Hobart, and interestingly former Punjab Ranji Trophy player Nikhil Chaudhary made 32 from 16 balls (played his last match for Punjab in 2019, before moving to Australia). In his BBL debut last week, he had scored 40 from 31 balls against Perth Scorchers.

India women Vs Australia women
The match is started now and India is playing their turn. India already lost one wicket of Shafali Verma. And now Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia are playing at this time. If we took a look on Test match so we will see that Indian team has won that match. But there is the difference between Test match and ODI match so for now we this is really hard to predict that which team will win this match. At this time India has made 23 runs in 5 overs with the lost of one wicket.

India at 148/5. Jemimah Rodrigues is still there with 33, but on the other end they have the inexperienced Amanjot Kaur. Australian bowlers have done a good job so far and almost everyone have been on the wicket column. None of the Indian batters could get to a half-century, although Yastika Bhatia made 49. It is going to be a tough job for the Indian bowlers, unless the lower order batters can take them to at least 250. The match is taking place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and we can't expect any additional support for the bowlers.

India, South Africa match is looking interesting as Dean Elgar inches toward his double century. He has already got 159 runs and is now slowly going towards, what might be his maiden 200 runs in test cricket. He is getting good support from Marco Jansen from the other side. India would need to break the partnership in the early hours of day 3 of the first test. An early wicket for India would put a break to the lead which is now of 57 runs.

Dean Elgar is batting on 184, and looks like he will get his double century today. He has never scored a double ton before. Once he got to 199, but unfortunately he got out before adding one more run. That said, we need to appreciate the effort from Marco Jansen. The 6th wicket partnership is worth 110 runs, and Jansen has dominated this partnership till now. This is his highest score in test cricket. South Africa made the strategic move of promoting Jansen ahead of Bavuma. That worked. And ideally Bavuma should bat at no.11.

Edit: Dean Elgar out for 185. He will not get to his double century today.

Singapore Women have won the second T20I match against Philippines Women, and now they are ahead by 2-0. In this case, I was actually supporting Philippines, because their squad was mostly native (unlike their men's team which is around 100% foreigner). And Singapore squad was mostly comprised of foreigners. Romela Osabel returned figures of 4-0-19-2 for Philippines, but apart from her almost all the bowlers went for more than 10 runs per over. Se made 33 not out while batting. None else in the Philippines women squad made a score of more than 15.

But zoomed out long-term, it might be impossible for China to support their economy through domestic demand. Why? Because their population is dying.

Exactly. Population is simply collapsing in China, with the fertility rate dipping below 1 per woman. This means that each new generation will be less than half of the size of the previous one. For example, if there are 1000 people in the grandparent's generation, then it gets reduced to 450-500 in the parent's generation. And in the next generation, there will be only 200-250 people. And in the long term this means that each working age citizen need to support 4-5 elderly people. Even in other developed nations such as Russia and Japan, the birth rate is much higher when compared to China.

It is true that the Bangladesh team can perform well because the past players took the Bangladesh team to the top of the reputation. At present, all the players in Bangladesh team are performing well but they cannot maintain their regular performance. If they perform well in one match, they perform poorly in the next few matches. The first T20 match with the New Zealand team was quite good but if they can do this kind of performance they will definitely need more practice. Generally Bangladesh can perform a little better in T20 matches.

Bangladesh performs better in T20I and ODI when compared to test format. On the other hand New Zealand players are more suitable for the longer format. One of the reasons why New Zealand is performing poorly at the moment is due to the fact that several of their players are unavailable. For example, Trent Boult has decided to prioritize franchise cricket over national duty. And this means that they are without their best bowler in most of the matches. And then Devon Conway and Kane Williamson are also facing fitness issues.

One good news for all the EV fans is that the price of Lithium Carbonate has collapsed. By the end of 2022, price per ton was around ¥600,000 but now it has declined to ¥96,500. More and more lithium mines are coming online and this will ensure stable prices for the next few years. However I am still concerned at the slow progress in new innovations in battery technology. Most of the EVs have a range of 200-400 km with a single charge and this is a major drawback for them over gasoline or diesel driven vehicles.

1st T20I (N), Napier, December 27, 2023 | Bangladesh tour of New Zealand | Bangladesh won by 5 wickets (with 8 balls remaining).

While Bangladesh has shown prowess in T20 cricket with a well-established franchise league like the BPL, there are concerns about their overall team strength, especially under SENA conditions. The team's dependence on a few players, some of whom are nearing retirement, raises questions about sustainability. On the other hand, New Zealand boasts a robust domestic system with high-quality matches in the Plunkett Shield, contributing to a more well-rounded team. It's a matter of balance – Bangladesh excels in T20, but New Zealand's structural foundation seems to provide more consistency across formats.

Agreed. But then, New Zealand's population stands at 5.1 million, while that of Bangladesh is 170 million. On top of that, rugby and association football are much more popular when compared to cricket in New Zealand, while in Bangladesh it is complete dominance by cricket. As of now, New Zealand is being kept afloat as a result of fresh influx of players from other countries. But this system is not very sustainable. Other smaller countries (such as Ireland, Sri Lanka and West Indies) are also facing the same dilemma in building a good player pool.

Al Jazeera published a good article on the future of ODI cricket a few weeks ago:

https://www.aljazeera.com/sports/2023/11/21/future-of-cricket-odi-icc-world-cup-india-final-england-australia-future-tours-associate-teams

It covers the inequality in ICC fund distribution. BCCI is supposed to receive $231 million from the ICC for the year 2024, while associate sides such as the Netherlands and Scotland will be receiving anywhere from $1.5 million to $2.0 million. That is less than 1% of what goes to the BCCI. I am not sure how can other teams continue to be competitive, when there is so much discrepancy in the funding.

16/4 to 151/4 looks bad and 52 extras in the first inning is going to sting now even more.

When the Aussies were struggling at 16/4, I thought maybe Pakistan could create history in the boxing day test match but this golden opportunity seems to be slipping away. Gotta feel for Hasan, he bowled beautifully but test cricket can be harsh sometimes and you don't get any rewards.

Match has now slipped out of Pakistan's control. Don't know what happened to Aamer Jamal, he is being very wayward now. Both Smith and Marsh are hitting him all around the park. Smith is batting at 49, and it will be a morale booster for him if he can get a century at this ground, against such a quality bowling attack. Khurram Shahzad missed this match as a result of injury, but his replacement (Mir Hamza) did a decent job. As of now, Jamal looks like the weak point in Pakistani attack. Hasan Ali bowled well at times, but so far he hasn't taken any wickets.
752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Women's Cricket Prediction & Discussion - T20 & ODI on: December 28, 2023, 06:10:39 AM
After winning two consecutive Tests, the Australia Women's team and the India Women's team will take the field today at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series. Australia are strong on paper but I think this series could be a bit different. India women's team is very excited after winning the test match. India will be looking to keep their winning momentum going in the ODI series and further establish themselves as a force to reckon with in women's cricket. The Wankhede Stadium is expected to buzz with anticipation as fans eagerly await to see their home team in action. On the other hand, Australia women's team is very strong, although Indian women's team is in form but I will Australia women's team ahead in white ball cricket.

India won the test match in such comprehensive manner. But for the ODI series, the selectors have included a number of new faces. Saika Ishaque, Mannat Kashyap, Titas Sadhu and Shreyanka Patil are some of the players who will make their ODI debut today. And Renuka Singh Thakur is playing her first ODI after a gap of almost one and half years. On the other hand, Australian women have a tried and tested squad. Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Alyssa Healy, Tahlia McGrath and Beth Mooney are some of the most experienced players in women's cricket.

Match is slowly slipping out of Pakistan's control. Marsh at 72 and Smith at 37. Looks like they are going to take Australia to a lead of 300-350 at least. Right now they are leading by 187. Shaheen has lost his mojo yet again and is being punished by the two Australian batsmen. At the moment, only Mir Hamza looks to be capable of getting a few breakthroughs. Also, the absence of a quality spinner is hurting Pakistan's chances yet again. When Pakistan was batting, don't forget the fact that Nathan Lyon picked up a 4-wicket haul.

I believe Pakistan has improved from their performance of the first test match. Although the fielding remained the same, bowling and batting have improved in my opinion. But the major problem for the Pakistan squad is that their star players are out of form. Look at Babar, Shaheen Afridi. None of them are at their best. Babar can barely score runs these days. On the other Shaheen can't seem to be doing much with the new balls. But he did create some chances only so that their fielders can drop the catches. It is very unfortunate. But they got some injured players as well. Hopefully, they will be back soon and stronger than ever.

Well. Shaheen picked up two crucial wickets yesterday (those of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne). But it is too early to say whether he has regained his lost form. So far in the first session today, he looked quite okayish. But then, Mir Hamza has been their best bowler as of now. Now coming to Babar Azam, this guy has been out of form for quite some time. Other top-order batsmen (Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood) are also not doing really great. And this is putting enormous pressure on the middle order.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 28, 2023, 05:03:33 AM
Smith and Marsh are doing the repair work for there team. Pakistan gave Aussies lead of 54 runs in first innings and that's proving to be quite runs now. Australians have score 107 runs so far and lead has gone up to 161 runs. Pakistan can only win if they have something to chase under 250 runs. Anything above 250 will be difficult for Pakistan to chase. Hasan and Jamal were fine in first innings but in second innings there performance is not up to the mark.

Pakistan seamers are wasting the early advantage they got. Steven Smith has settled in at one end and from the other end Mitchell Marsh is attacking the bowlers. I won't be surprised if Australia manages to get to a lead of 300 plus. If that happens, then it is all over for Pakistan. Given their fragile top order, anything above 220-230 is not going to be achievable for the Pakistani batsmen. Pakistan needs a couple of quick wickets. After Smith and Marsh, it is goig to be Alex Carey and then the bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.
756  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 28, 2023, 04:26:52 AM
You are right if they can't servive in their iwn home town this is a red flag for them. In ICC World Cup their performance was little admirable, unfortunately they didn't qualify for the final but they tried really well to thor best. Even the last ODI they played, in that match the performance of New Zealand disappointed me. And now the T20I series I was not expecting this performance from New Zealand team. Or we can say that Bangladesh is stronger than New Zealand(the situation is saying this). By the way New Zealand needs to focus more on cricket.

Even at this point I will not go to the extent of saying that Bangladesh is a superior team when compared to New Zealand. Bangladesh is overdependent on a few players, and many of them are close to retirement. Apart from this series, they usually perform poorly whenever they play under SENA conditions. In case of New Zealand, at least they have a well structured domestic system and the matches in Plunkett Shield are always of high quality. In terms of T20, Bangladesh is slightly ahead as they have a well known franchise league (BPL), while New Zealand's league doesn't involve foreign players.
757  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: December 28, 2023, 04:12:12 AM
There is some good news for Donald Trump. The Michigan Supreme Court has ruled that Trump can't be removed from the presidential ballots within the state for 2024 POTUS elections. Earlier, the Colorado Court had ruled to remove him. As the election date approaches, we can expect more and more desperate measures from the Democrats, as Joe Biden is trailing Donald Trump by a large margin in most of the opinion polls. They are hoping that Biden will make the cut, in case Ron DeSantis become the GOP nominee instead of Trump.
758  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 28, 2023, 03:57:56 AM
Decent partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith. They were 16/4 and now these two have enabled them to reach 66/4. Lead is 116 runs as of now. If Pakistan can restrict the Australian lead to anything under 200, then they will be the firm favorites for this match. Mir Hamza took the last two wickets to fall, after Shaheen Shah Afridi provided the initial breakthroughs. But once again, Hasan Ali is looking like the weakest link in Pakistani pace bowling attack. Two more wickets and Australia are done for this match.
759  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 28, 2023, 02:50:35 AM
Nothing can be said in advance that Bangladesh is performing well since the third ODI in New Zealand. But we saw New Zealand bowled out for 98 runs in the third match of the ODI series. Then when the T20 game started, the powerful New Zealand were limited to 134 runs in the first match. New Zealand is not able to perform well under pressure with Bangladesh at the moment.  So I think it is not right to predict which team can win the T20 series yet. But I hope if Bangladesh can keep New Zealand under pressure with such a good performance then it will be possible for Bangladesh to win the T20 series.

New Zealand is undergoing a decline right now. Being a very small country of 4-5 million people, they are the smallest of the full member nations (and cricket is not even the most popular sport). However, in the recent past there have been a continuous inflow of cricketers from South Africa and India to New Zealand, and this enabled them to be competitive against the pig-3. However, the impact seems to be wearing off. If they can't remain competitive against a team like Bangladesh, and that too while playing at home, then it is a massive red flag.

Both Anurag Thakur and Jay Shah are a product of nepotism  but Mota Bhai's launda seems quite in administrative roles and not many people are aware of the fact that this mf got into an administrative job in his early 20s, mainly due to his daddy mota bhai so nepo kid does have a decade of experience under his belt and he's only 35.

Well, in the subcontinent you don't need this sort of qualifications, you are good to go if you are connected to ruling parties. One major difference is that in Indian state boards are largely independent and overall it's decentralized because different political parties hold stakes in each state board so need some sort of consensus or call it powerplay. It's more like you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours.

Anurag and Jay are nepo kids, but at the same time I would prefer them over the Srinivasan-Pawar mafia any time of the day. Today's kids don't remember what happened during 2004-14 (when UPA was in power). The corrupt duo of Narayanaswami Srinivasan and Sharad Pawar took control of both the BCCI and the ICC and they destroyed all the progress that was achieved when Jagmohan Dalmiya was in power. The last thing I want is to have either of these two in power ever again. Rupa Gurunath is still the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), but I don't have an issue if the rot is contained in TN.
