741  Other / Meta / Re: Using Extensions on Smart phones [Guide] on: November 30, 2023, 05:14:32 PM
A serious question  Cheesy

Do you use that smart phone to store your bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and your exchange account?

If you do this, that device stores your money and seriously you should not use any extension and unnecessary applications on it. Security wise and it is for sake of your money safety.

If you have a smart phone just for Internet exploration and don't use it for money-related activities like I mention above, it's okay to play around with extensions.
Thanks a lot for spotting this out tranthidung. However a great percentage of forum members don't store their main hodlings and assets on mobile wallets due to the fact that it is generally unsafe. Also,most of the forum extensions are open source so you can actually check for your safety before applying them.

I see that you put a lot of effort into creating this thread which is indeed detailed and helpful but we already have a similar thread BPIP extension using method in Mobile Browser that explain the same context and the only difference is the browser used in it, so do we need one more?

But it can be helpful for beginners so I expect it to be here in this section and would appreciate if you keep it updated.
jrrsparkles your request had been in the thread even before your reply pls recheck.
Secondly Mozilla Firefox is one of the most popular browsers world wide so it has a lot of users and obviously many are present on this forum. I will definitely update the thread once I am aware of any tweaks for other popular browsers like Chrome Tor and brave.
742  Other / Meta / Extensions on firefox with Smart phones [Guide] on: November 30, 2023, 03:23:53 PM
Due to the fact that most forum users want to always be online they tend to use their smartphones to surf the forum more frequently. However most times pages on this forum are not very responsive or may not meet the expected properties of users like on their PC setups due to addons and extensions,others may have some difficulty using some addons like BPIP Extension, Bitcoin script and many others.most of these addons make surfing the forum easier for members.below are a couple of ways you can work around using extensions on some browsers with your Smart phone.

BPIP Setup for for Mozilla Firefox
The regular Mozilla Firefox for Android as of the time of making this post is not capable of adding customized addons including BPIP Extension.But not to worry there is a way to work around it and trust me you don't need to have a Mozilla account.

Step 1
Firstly due to the above factor you would have to use another version of Mozilla Firefox browser which is the Firefox nightly
You can get it from the Google play store at;  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.fenix
Or from the official page at ; https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/channel/desktop/
this is a developer version of Mozilla Firefox which is more  open sourced than the regular Firefox browser there by giving you less restrictions than in the regular version of which one of them is being able to customize your addons.

Step 2
Open the app and skip the sign in process  by clicking not now. And in the search bar paste the firefox addon store link below
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/ and hit the search button.

Step 3
In the search box like in the image below fill in BPIP Extension and hit search
Note!! -->do not hit "click here" on the page as the addon is not available on Their android store.

Step 4
In the page like displayed below click the "Add to Firefox" button and click "add" in the message that displays.

Step 5
Next hit the menu button as shown in the image below, click "add-ons" and then click on "add-ons manager" click BPIP Extension and click settings.you can then customize the extension features to your preferred choice.

Result
Below are images of the result. notice the forum pages become more responsive after using this add-on, page tend to fit perfectly in your device's view point.

important : Note that other extensions or add-ons can be added following same process as long as they are available on the Mozilla extension store.

Using extensions on kiwi browser
Below is the link to a post by Crypto Library showing a step by step guide on setting up extensions on kiwi browser
 BPIP extention using method in Mobile Browser

Note that this thread will be constantly updated on using extensions on Smart phones with  popular browsers like Chrome,Tor and brave.

743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EVER WONDERED ABOUT WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO BACK UP YOUR BITCOIN WALLET PHRASES? on: November 30, 2023, 02:35:25 PM
Hello everyone

Hope y'all having a wonderful day. And so I was doing some research about the best way to store your Bitcoin Pass phrases.
Firstly op a post of this format has already been created recently today here is a link to it ;https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5476025.msg63244863#msg63244863

Secondly it is known as a seed phrase it is a series of  12 or 24 words generated simultaneously when you create a Bitcoin wallet.
Fillipone post:  Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers even contans step by step details on how to carry out the whole process making it one of the best methods properly explained on the forum.
744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best way to store your seed phrase? on: November 30, 2023, 07:58:51 AM
The best way to store your seed phrase is offline. Aside that online would be regarded unsafe no matter how careful you claim to be.when it comes to offline storage there is actually no best way because the best way is that which you can store it offline without a third party knowing about it.This is because every individual has his special way of storing their seed phrases offline.
so writing on papers or engraving on stone and many others doesn't really matter so long the seed is as safe as possible.
745  Other / Archival / Re: Wearing Bitcoin Clothing in Public on: November 29, 2023, 02:11:41 PM
Has anyone ever tried wearing a Bitcoin clothing in public? I wore mine to an event earlier this week and noticed that most of the young age people were looking at it. One person even asked me if I owned a Bitcoin(which I've answered him ). It just popped into my mind that is it making myself vulnerable to bad people? We are aware that we should keep quiet if we own Bitcoin because of the risk that someone will hurt us or target us so that they could get our Bitcoin
Wearing Bitcoin clothes in public is a wrong move because it puts you at risk.this because a lot of persons including scammers and hackers will assume you are an investor of which in this case I believe they would be Right.
Losing ones hodlings is a nightmare worth avoiding therefore I think not wearing clothes that will draw attention is worth it. Here are a couple of post that would give you more insight on your privacy
Don't forget to keep your keys safe 😁
746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the bitcoin network be affected if? on: November 29, 2023, 01:29:21 PM
Treat this as a harmless question.
First of all I don't think your question is harmful but rather a nice one.
Secondly Bitcoin mining hash rate drops after every halving this is to help slow down mining rate . Bitcoin has a total supply of 21millon of which about 90+ percent has been mined already and the remaining supply would not even been mined totally any time soon.However if the entire supply is mined, miners will now have to focus on rewards they get from confirming transactions.
Also transaction fees may increase in the future when the total supply is mined but future fees is not only depent on the miners as ordinals,forks and other factors have a great role also to play in the future.
747  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Here we go again! ANTPOOL mined empy block on: November 29, 2023, 07:32:49 AM
I believe that is a starting block broadcasted by the network that is why the fees is zero it help start the blocks and makes it kinda easier for miners to receive the next block.

However miner are being sent block templates without transactions so the can progress to mining the next block as quick as possible.this can also be a form of luck like franky1 mentioned as miners may find a new block in the template within the short time interval of the broadcasting of the next larger block.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guys, what's the best Bitcoin wallet for PC these days? on: November 28, 2023, 08:37:07 PM
Why not change your operating system to Linux it is better due to the fact that it is more open source than windows.

Electrum would be a great wallet to use as mentioned by Charles-Tim. Since the matter of security cannot be over emphasized I suggest you make that your PC setup an air gapped one to reduce chances of hack especially if the amount of Bitcoin you are hodling is large
749  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: African Proverbs in Pidgin on: November 28, 2023, 02:08:42 PM
I say make I add some proverb way I form by myself

No b to carry de shout Bitcoin u no watin BTC b?
Meaning:not all who talk about Bitcoin know about it

Naira de rise naira de fall but Bitcoin ge level pass am
Meaning: Bitcoin is immune to inflation

Bitcoin no de heavy who hodl am
Meaning: Bitcoin is virtual and therefore does not have physical weight.
750  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Profile trick on: November 28, 2023, 01:37:27 PM
OP, I applaud your effort in showing that shortcut or hack to getting users' ID. Veteran members may think what you've done is irrelevant but I think it's helpful. At least if not for the high ranked members, it's definitely for newbies. Thus, I believe it's more appreciated in that quarters and that's for the general good of all as we've to do all we can to get the newbies properly settled in here.
Thanks for your understanding Mpamaegbu and serjent05 I was just navigating through the forum when I noticed it and I decided to share the information though some forum members may not fancy the idea,others may as definitely not everyone on this forum is aware of it especially newbies.

Those accounts were disabled or deleted and were used for testing purposes I guess, that's why they don't show up as existing when you use any of the forum's features.
I thought as much but still wasn't very sure about it.i think in that case they were created by Sirius and Satoshi during the test periods of the forum after lunch.

I copied the wrong link from the wrong quote. This is the link.
 - Or here: Is\will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use?

In general, this topic has been discussed in more than 3 topics and dozens of responses, and there is no need to repeat IT again.
It is better to lock this topic.
I am pretty sure Op did not notice them maybe because he didn't use the search button properly besides he is a newbie and such mistakes are quite common
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alleged Hacking Incident Tied to Bitcoin’s Massive 83.65 Bitcoin Fee Error on: November 28, 2023, 12:06:33 PM
This discussion was raised by EL MOHA recently Here is the discussion link Someone just paid 83B
TC for transaction fee

We already have:

 - Someone just paid 83BTC for transaction fee,
 - someone pays 83.65 $BTC ($3,136,058) in transaction fees, overpaying by 120,258
 - Or here: Is\will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use?

There are enough discussions on this topic and there is no need to create more. You can continue the discussion there, but it is not the first time that a software bug has caused this, and it may not be the last.
Hugeblack your first and third links redirect me to the same post pls review.
753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will transaction fees affect Bitcoin in the future? on: November 27, 2023, 07:52:28 PM
Well, the situation was much worse in the 2017 bull run compared to the current network congestion and the fee went up to $40-50 for one input and one output transaction but currently, it was about $2-3 most of the time which means the implementation of segwit really been effective and making the network better still we are yet to attain the perfect cause imagine spending $3 to buy a coffee isn't look perfect though.

I feel the adoption of LN will be the long-term solution to this so this can eliminate all the small TX from on-chain and only bigger TX may be used to transact on-chain.
This is one main point .if the fees continue to increase over time it would reduce Bitcoin adoption to an extent because regular minor transactions will become uneconomical due to high fees.take for example buy some coffee of $5 and paying $2 for fees.the normal guy would just stick to using fiat instead of spending that much on fees
754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will transaction fees affect Bitcoin in the future? on: November 27, 2023, 06:36:31 PM
aside from the implementation of the layer 2 what other possible ways would help keep Bitcoin transaction fees as low as possible.

If I have my way it will be to find a way to avoid this shit coins like ORDI and it’s likes been built on bitcoin blockchain and make it bitcoin only blockchain, at least that would save up some space for more transactions, but that isn’t possible.

There are some people that actually are suggesting a fork to increase the block size which I don’t like because that will definitely affect the decentralization of bitcoin.

For now my suggestion is every user should implement personal manual management like consolidating their UTXOs when the fees gets low, use wallets that allow to customize fees, bump transactions and even have the coin control feature just incase you need that. And we should treat bitcoin as an alternative payment method, use it when it is cheap and convenient or use other means.
I agree with you Zaguru12.but sometimes during periods when the congestion of the mempool is high even with the use of layer 2 lightning network, and proper timing the fees sometimes still remain quite higher than normal.
From my own perspective I think the transaction fee future of Bitcoin can't be accurately defined because ordinals, nodes and forks have a large role to play in the network.

But as per your title, I will say yeah, high transaction fees will affect the bitcoin in the future and the present. This has to be solved, but it will be solved when it is taken as a problem first because most of the developers are not even taking it as a problem because to them the fee is not high but it is high for middle or lower class adopters (those who have lesser BTC). <-- I just came up with this term hehe.

I like the term middle and lower class you used this is because they are the ones who high fees affect the most . although no one even the high class is comfortable paying higher fees than normal.

Well, I am not a developer nor a technical enthusiast that I can suggest something new but my general knowledge says to me that I could make transactions in Batches rather than making one by one as it will reduce the fee for our transactions. And besides this, can sidechains will work for us like a side chain other than the BTC main blockchain where our transactions will be processed rather than on the main blockchain, or what about drivechains (pegged to the main blockchain).
As for this it won't be feasible in all cases because certain transactions require that all funds be sent at once.
755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I go about this? on: November 27, 2023, 04:31:20 PM
For the generation of the master keys and child keys:

Use https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ offline, not online. You can use it to generate the keys and addresses from seed phrase.

For offline usage:
Use the html on a word editor: https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39/releases/latest/

For security reasons, use it offline on a word editor.
Thanks alot Charles Tim and Zaguru12
Is there a similar script I can run on phyton?

It is possible to run this on python aswell. You have to use mnemonic library for the BIP39 functionalities and the bip32utils library for the BIP32 key derivation.

Create a new mnemonic phrase with the mnemonic library. The individual passphrase is optional.
Code:
from mnemonic import Mnemonic

mnemo = Mnemonic("english")
words = mnemo.generate(strength=128)  # 128, 160, 192, 224, 256 bits
seed = mnemo.to_seed(words, passphrase="INSERT_PASSPHRASE_HERE")
print("Mnemonic:", words)
print("Seed:", seed.hex())

Now use the bip32utils library to derrive the masterkey and the child keys:
Code:
from bip32utils import BIP32Key

master_key = BIP32Key.fromEntropy(seed)
child_key = master_key.ChildKey(44 + BIP32Key.HARDENED) \
                        .ChildKey(0 + BIP32Key.HARDENED) \
                        .ChildKey(0 + BIP32Key.HARDENED) \
                        .ChildKey(0).ChildKey(0)

print("Master Key:", master_key.ExtendedKey())
print("Child Key:", child_key.Address())

I have used "m/44'/0'/0'/0/0" as derivation path since this path is widely used by many wallets and allows a structured way to generate multiple addresses.

Thanks a lot seek3r although I was able to use Charles-Tim help which was very very easy to use I would definitely use this phyton script also .
756  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will transaction fees affect Bitcoin in the future? on: November 27, 2023, 03:23:45 PM
A couple of times the mempool has been congested resulting in high transaction fees which is mostly not too healthy for the network as most users who do not have that much to spare for fees tend to cease transactions till the fee rate subsides.Also owing to the fact that Bitcoin has become more adopted over time, users have also increased too therefore logically, as the Bitcoin adoption rate increases, so does the price of Bitcoin however it has also partially led to increase in Bitcoin fees over time.Here is a chart which shows Bitcoin Avg. Transaction Fee.Relatively
fees have increased over Time and even exponentially during periods of congestion of the network.Yes topics concerning fees have been raised over time however aside from the implementation of the layer 2 what other possible ways would help keep Bitcoin transaction fees as low as possible.
Here also is a chart from  Blockchain.com that shows
Fees Per Transaction.
What is your opinion about this?

I would not be surprised if we saw a Guide talking about how to create a Guide in the forum, but really, does this information deserve to have its own Guide?
Creation of guides on this forum has never been a wrong idea.the fact that you are aware of this trick on profiles doesn't mean every other member is also hence a guide isn't considered as a wrong move.

BTW Is this your only account? I noticed another account posting a screenshot in the same font you use, and there is a similarity between two accounts.
You of all people I believe should know that I cannot be the only one on planet earth using this particular font on my device.I believe other users on this forum may use same font with me and does that necessarily me they are all alts?
However thanks for the info about profile IDs once again
