741  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 07, 2023, 11:56:37 AM
If I'm not mistaken, there is also a huge mistake in the first Pacquaio vs Marquez fight, my recollection is that Manny scored 3 knockdown in the first round and the score should be 10-7. And if the judges score the fight correct, Manny could have won that first fight.
No the score should be 10-6, while one of the judges missed the count of the knockdowns so he only scored 10-7.

Refer to my post above, I have shared the article of that specific fight with complete information.
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do You Plan to Make the Most of Your Bitcoin Investment Before the Halving? on: November 06, 2023, 06:17:37 PM
I just focus on DCAing and continue to buy bitcoin with my spare money on my pocket. I never really had these serious changes in my life routine so as to maximize buying bitcoin, but I just stick on doing DCA as much as possible.

I don't see Bitcoin investment as my major source of income so I just invest on what's I'm capable to lose and never really expect much to make massive profits from it. Although it's a big achievement to make life changing profits when bull run comes but I also have this feeling that I should not compromise my life in exchange for my investment profits. Profits whether it's big or small, we should always be grateful for it.
743  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you guys believe in other people luck and try to copy them? on: November 06, 2023, 05:42:56 PM
Of course in here it is not about skill or luck games anymore but it is about destiny,so tell me how many of you are deceived by dreams that may change your destiny like I am  Grin?

It will just create an expectation. Better bet on your usual and just try to win. These high multipliers by doing several parlays are really exciting to see especially if you are thinking that you will get those. But no, it's still luck and not destiny as you are referring to.

Just enjoy sports betting without expecting too much to win those insane multipliers like x700 and so on.

Not bad at all to copy others' bets. If that's effective on you then just continue doing it.
I have no against copying other bets either because if that one is working for you, then so be it. After all gambling is still based on pure luck and when you’re lucky enough to follow another person’s bet, then you will certainly win and make decent profits. But know that this certain strategy will not work at all times, that you should also learn to analyze your own bet and bet only where there is highly probable of winning. That way, you learn to gamble with your own luck and skills on the side, and not just gambling and relying your luck and skills from other people bets.
744  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 06, 2023, 02:53:18 PM
Why are we making this discussion complicated? The rules have already been laid out, and based on the explanation, Ngannou would have had to knock down Fury twice in order to score a 10-7 in a specific round. Since that didn't happen, the score only settles on 10-8. What's hard to understand about that?
~

So it turns out that if one boxer threw 100 punches and the other zero, but was able to stay on his feet, then the score will only be 10-9 in favor of the first boxer?
No, because referee would not allow to go that far, the fact that one boxer is not throwing punches, that means he is not competiting, which I guess would merit to a decision by a TKO win on the boxer that has been throwing punches.

I am interested in this question regardless of the Fury-Ngannou fight. I think this rule (if it really works like that) is delusional. This means a fight (let’s imagine a fight of two rounds) where first one boxer took the round with a score of 10-9 (in terms of blows, the score was, for example, 8-5), and then the other boxer with a score of 9-10 (in terms of blows, the score was 0-100) should be considered equal?  Roll Eyes

The rule states that the best score the winner of the round can get is only 10-9 in their favor if there's no knockdown.

Please check the scorecards for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao and Mayweather vs. Canelo fights below. Both of those fights were won by Mayweather via unanimous decision, and if you examine the scorecards, you'll see that the scores are always 10-9.

https://cdn3.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1807615/Screen_Shot_2013-09-15_at_1.52.35_AM.png
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-3065922/Floyd-Mayweather-vs-Manny-Pacquiao-fight-scorecard-Official-round-round-boxing-stats-compared-Jeff-Powell-s-verdict.html

A 10-8 score is only possible if an opposing fighter goes down once, 10-7 if they go down twice, and 10-6 if it happens three times.

A good example is the first fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, which ended in a draw because one of the judges mistakenly only counted 2 knockdowns instead of 3, and he scored it as 10-7 instead of 10-6. You can read the full story here.

Quote
Judges Guy Jutras and John Stewart scored it as a 10-6 round for Pacquiao. However, judge Burt Clements’ scorecard had a 10-7 round for Pacquiao. Indeed, Clements made an unforgivable mistake by counting two knockdowns instead of three.

I know the outcome was very controversial, and many fans are unhappy with the result, perhaps including some of the forum members here. But all we can do now is hope for a rematch to settle this speculation once and for all.
746  Economy / Economics / Re: What would you do in this situation? Invest or save? on: November 05, 2023, 09:41:36 PM
If you have plans to start a dream business that requires a capital of  $20,000 and you were able to make a savings of $15,000 which obviously isn't enough to start up the business, what would be your decision or advice?

1. Invest the $15,000 into a smaller business hoping that the returns will yield the remaining $15,000 in a short period. Note that this has the potential of failing and wasting the already-saved  $15,000.

2. Keep the $15,000 while doing other work that will yield the remaining money over a long period.

Would love to see your input or a better suggestion apart from the ones I pointed out above.

N/B
This is the typical situation a friend finds himself and we are just brainstorming in what best to do.
Investing at a capital of $15k and a capital of $20k has still no difference, losing is still inevitable. That's why I'd rather chose the first option but I won't invest the whole amount of $15k but just a small amount that I can easily manage to lose. If I get lucky, I will get some profits that I will add on my savings and continue to invest more for future profits. However, if become unfortunate and lose my capital, I think that's something that I don't need to regret since we all expect this when things happen not according to our plan.

The important thing here is we gain some significant experience because the success of an investment does not only based on its own sufficient capital but it gives more credit to the person who is going to manage the investment, that's why building experience is always a must.

Hi bitcointalk members, it is a pleasure to join this great forum of Bitcoin. I was introduced to this forum recently when I showed interest in Bitcoin. I was told I will get hand full of information about it here. I have been going through learnmeabitcoin.com which I came across online for some days now. Now I want to start interacting here as well as I am learning more about Bitcoin. I want your guidance as senior members in the forum here. Thanks.
You know what, sometimes the motivation to learn is not from the superiors that you are going to interact with and learn from them, but mostly its the inner desire of yours to learn without setting any limits. If you have the will and long term interest in the market to gain new things, then you should have a positive attitude and should be more open to different ideas and perceptions coming from the different levels of the members in the forum. If you have this passion that the more you gained new perceptions to learn, the more you become interested with bitcoin and its crypto market, then I think you will be successful and most likely to gain a brighter future in the forum. Strike while the iron is hot, and maximize learning if that will fuel the inner desire of yours to learn.
748  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have your own casino. on: November 05, 2023, 02:48:39 PM
How I wish to become the house who can earn an unlimited profit once you established a good site.
We are on a different era now and this is the result of pursuing the regulations, now those crypto casinos have to get license and be regulated so they can attract more gamblers. I haven't seen a decentralized crypto gambling site able to hit the top over the regulated casinos, probably the decentralized thing in crypto is slowly fading away as the government starting to regulate this market.

Owning a casino isn't for everyone. While it guarantees that you'll have the house edge and win against gamblers, the biggest challenge is the competition. There are already large casinos offering similar or even more services. In this time, the competition is about the reputation of a gambling site because most gamblers prefer sites that are financially stable and have a good reputation.

Getting permits and licensing for your casino can be done with enough capital, but the real challenge is whether you can survive the intense competition in the market.
749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: November 05, 2023, 11:40:00 AM
Today I like the 5-1 Golden State Warriors over the 2-4 Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs are currently the favorites for some reason (maybe I’m missing something) but that to me seems like an opportunity to get good odds on the Warriors beating a much less talented team. Especially the way Stephen Curry is playing at the moment.

That's odd but the gap is not that huge though as far as ML goes, and the handicap is +1.5/-1.5 so it means that it can go either way. And the reason why the Cavs are the the slight favorite it's because the game will be in their homecourt, so they have the advantage.

And there were reports that Klay is questionable in this game, so if he can give like 15 points a game this early, they could missed the offensive output. But there's a lot that can cover though, Kuminga and Wiggins is still there so this might be their best time to shine and cover if Klay will not play. Saric though is contributing big so this is going to be very difficult to gauge pre-betting.

It's given that they should be the favorite because they have a home court advantage, but they have been struggling at the start of the season compared to the Warriors, who are in the top 2, right after the Nuggets. I believe the biggest reason for that is Klay Thompson being questionable for the game. But in case he plays, once it's announced, I think the spread will move to -3.5 in favor of the visiting team, the Warriors.
750  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: November 05, 2023, 10:47:58 AM
Wow, Junemar Fajardo just got his seventh MVP award in the PBA, just wondering if who's gonna break this record.

For me, he deserves this one and most likely he will capture his 8th because he is so disciplined on his body.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/june-mar-fajardo-wins-a-seventh-pba-mvp-award-a793-20231105?ref=home_feed_1

To be honest, I didn't expect him to win another MVP award, especially after his team's not-so-impressive performance last season. But it happened, so I guess even if Fajardo doesn't play as he did before, he can still dominate. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins another MVP now that he's fully healthy and confident after playing in the FIBA World Cup and Asian Cup. There might be no stopping him, and who knows, maybe we can start considering him in the conversation of being one of the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the PBA.
751  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you rather make your investments in FIAT or CRYPTO? on: November 04, 2023, 09:59:59 PM
The crypto market has an high level of volatility, anyone who is about to make an investment need to have a good understanding of the volatile market. Now the question is even with the volatility will you still choose crypto over fiat when it comes to making investments?
Definitely in fiat and in crypto. You don't need to chose between the two because if you want to assure and maximize your investment profits, you will take risk both in fiat and in crypto. Despite of its market volatility, as long as you know how to manage and control the risks in your investment, then you don't have to worry on losing your investment because being knowledgeable on your chosen investment is already an edge to free yourself from losses. Aside from that, if you have gained varied experiences in the market that makes you an experienced and skillful in trading or investing, then worrying to lose your capital is nonsense. Although there might be inevitable losses on the process, but that is nothing compared to what you can get when your investments end up successful and profitable.
752  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Simple Yet Powerful Message That Will Always Hold True on: November 04, 2023, 09:36:00 PM
The message to newbies has always been the same since the beginning of time. From bitcoin creation to the very time altcoin started to pop up, till the era of NFTs, airdrops and other silly nonsense that shows up to deceive the naive ones. This is the simple message being reiterated -  "Just buy bitcoin and hold your own keys or else you are going to get scammed"

PS- Image source is from a Telegram group. I don't claim ownership of it.

Bitcoin in the end is still the future of the crypto market. No matter how stiff the competition in the market, but if you prioritize bitcoin over other crypto coins, your investment will always be secured and the chances to gain life changing profits will only be guaranteed by bitcoin and the rest are nothing but a destruction in our portfolio. So focus on the idea of sticking into bitcoin for long term, and secure your private keys by not disclosing it to others, that's the most effective way to get rid of scams and to find yourself stress free and free of unexpected losses.

However, such a very easy message but certainly hard to follow as people want to complicate things more rather than stick to what is basic and proven highly profitable.
753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how secure are your telling fellow wo/man about this forum and bitcoin on: November 04, 2023, 08:57:06 PM
Obviously, you are risking on your own safety when you decide to tell other people or even your close friends about how did you make money and the amount you are making. Those things should only be kept to yourself only and not to disclose it to others as you can't be sure of their real motives why they bother asking you some personal matters. Your friend might actually need a real help but know that bitcoin and the forum is not the answer to her problem but she should find a real job so that she won't be begging others for help.

I have no against introducing bitcoin and the forum to her because that will give her an idea to find some time to study about bitcoin. But if what she needs right now is a quick source of profits, then she will not find it with bitcoin. Educate her about bitcoin and the forum instead because she might be needing it in the future when everyone around is already into bitcoin.
754  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dangerous chasing losses on: November 04, 2023, 01:36:50 PM
It’s really hard to recover losses if your main goal in gambling is just to have profit since the house edge will not permit you to win consistently against the house.
They can't stop us from winning occasionally, and if we're lucky, we might win. But that house edge is designed to give the casino an advantage in the long run. Plus, if we keep winning, they may impose betting limits, which will also reduce our potential winnings. However, when looking at long-term outcomes, the odds are not in our favor.

Human error through emotion is one of the biggest enemy of players that’s why they keep losing. You can lose everything even if you are initially winning with just one moment that will make you tilted during the game.

I personally don’t view my gambling records nor compute my total lose/win since it will will just affect my mind to gamble more instead of just gambling just for fun during free time.

That's a good approach. There's no need to keep a close eye on your gambling records if you're just gambling for fun. It wouldn't be enjoyable if you realize you've been losing a lot of money from the beginning. However, gamblers who like to challenge themselves and make smart decisions need to maintain records. I'm talking about gamblers who play skill-based games, not games like roulette with a significant house edge.

Chasing losses isn't a good idea unless it's part of a specific strategy. If it's driven by frustration, it often leads to losing your entire bankroll.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Nigerians spend $975m daily on online betting on: November 04, 2023, 12:59:18 PM
It's worrying that so many people in Nigeria gamble. If they're addicted or trying to make money, it could be bad for them.

Trying to make money through gambling is a risky choice, especially if you're already facing financial difficulties. It shouldn't be your main way to earn a living, as it's very uncertain. Many people have tried and most of them have not succeeded. While it's true that some people make money in gambling, especially in sports, they make up a very small percentage. You'd be lucky if you belong to that small group.

People in Nigeria don't earn a lot, but they spend a big amount on gambling. The government needs to control this to protect them. They could do campaigns to tell people that gambling can be dangerous.
This might help them make better choices and avoid problems. telling them understand the risks of gambling is important to keep them safe.

Teaching people about the risks of gambling is helpful, but with the current high rate of gambling, a stronger approach is needed. This could involve completely prohibiting gambling and blocking websites that offer gambling services from overseas, making it harder for people to access them.
756  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to build a career with bitcoin? on: November 03, 2023, 09:59:23 PM
One of my older brothers bought bitcoin with that money, instead of keeping it in the bank, about 6 months ago, the price of bitcoin was 24-25k+, and he bought about 1 BTC. The price of bitcoin has increased to 34K+. In just 6 months, he has made a profit of 9k+ dollars, which would have taken more than 20 years to get from the bank. This means that bitcoin can become a millionaire if people invest in it at the right time. I also bought some bitcoins myself and did it by withdrawing money from the bank. Success is not possible if you do not take risks in life. I know how hard it is to make money and if it is to sweat your head and work day and night, then it is worth it. And we can make a lot of income by buying or trading bitcoin with the right rules. I think bitcoin is a bright future for us.

I would say its always possible as there are successful investors out there who have been making a good and sustainable career with bitcoin. But we all know that does not happen in an instant. You could have lose a lot at first before you can finally say that you are already in the verge of success with bitcoin. However, while some have been building good career on bitcoin, majority are still losing their life savings and decide to quit because they can't stand the high risk of losing. That proves that not everyone who decide to trade or invest in bitcoin end up with a positive and profitable outcome, some are just doing good at first but still fail in the process, and building a good career for bitcoin is not really meant for them.
757  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading can ruin you on: November 03, 2023, 09:29:57 PM
Trading is most times profitable and sometimes challenging to traders, but it can ruin you just as gambling if you don't know how before venturing into it,  I have had a handful of terrible experience while trading and I discovered that it can return you to square one in terms of your finances if precautions is not taken.

Though am a better trader now, but I still thred with caution,  the best way for newbie to navigate their way in the market is to buy and hold, then sell when the price goes up.
When it comes to future market, newbie should stay off because it's for experience traders, even if you run a poll of people to tell of their experience in trading in this forum, %80 of people will rule out trading as a no go area based on their terrible experience while trading.

So newbie, stay of trading futures if you know nothing about technical analysis or fundamental analysis for not to be ruined.
Yes, trading can be very harmful and may ruin someone's life if its done without sufficient knowledge and experience in the market. The reason why trading needs more serious preparation in the market as the risk is higher than just by simply buying and long-term hodling. And we all know that not all those who decide to trade will end up trading positively. There are still distinction between real traders in the market and those who pretend to be traders.

However, trading can be learned well. This does not mean that losing is now become impossible, but you are now trading with a low risk of losing, and the more you decide to experience trading, the higher the chances that you will be a pro trader in the process. Just never decide to quit, unless if you are seeing trading not really your fate.
758  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can it be real bull or just a temptation. on: November 03, 2023, 08:58:27 PM
It was a great surprised to me this morning seeing the market price increasing above $29k that made me to asked this question, if it's real for bull market to happen in this month of October or is just a temptation that will make people to release their BTC to the market before the massive bull will take place. If the price of BTC can reach this level $29k at this time, show that real bull will take place next month of November till next year ending for investors to use the period to earn more incomes from their investment and to plan well ahead of another bear to come. If this new increase turn to temptation in the crypto market by turning back to dumping again which are some of the things investors don't want to experience in this season because, it will cause Many losses to investors. Do you think this is a real bull that will lead to investors expectation? Or is just a temptation that will make people to rush to the market to sell and regret at the end? What is your opinion.
To be honest, Im not seeing any market temptation but I can't also tell that what is currently happening is a real bull. It's just that there are some positive factors that have hit the market and made it look more bullish in our eyes. But I can say that this is the start of seeing the market in a bull run as bitcoin halving is getting near and we are expecting a highly positive outcome every after bitcoin halving.

This is the best time to accumulate more bitcoin and do the DCA. But if we will witness a price drop later on, for me that opens another opportunity for us to invest more since it might be the last price drop that we will witness before the real bullish market is set to happen.
759  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: November 03, 2023, 02:57:58 PM
I believe Converge wouldn't have let him go if he hadn't demanded a high salary. But we know SMB is a wealthy company, so they can afford to have Maverick on the Ginebra team.

That was the rumor. Perhaps Converge couldn't afford to pay big money to players because they are relatively new, even though they have taken over a team. A similar situation happened with Jeron Teng; he was released and has now signed with SMB. Interestingly, both Jeron and Maverick have signed with SMB management, but they are on different teams.

On the other hand, we have an unfortunate news for TNT, as it was reported that RHJ might miss the game opener due to illness.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/rondae-hollis-jefferson-illness-adds-to-tnt-problems-a2244-20231102?ref=home_featured_4

Maybe yes and maybe it's part of the plan so no need for any trade negotiation to happen and will be a cause of a questionable request between converge and SMC corp. Letting those two stars who shows their competitiveness during the last converge campaign seems questionable to me not being granted for the said request, I mean that contract value, both are two players and can contribute good numbers, if Converge are aiming to be more competitive with me keeping the two said players can give them leadership that may give good chances to win games.

Just my two cents and I'm sure there are a lot of differences in terms of opinions and how we look at it, but nothing can be changed now. Both stars are now signed with the contract value that they request.

What can we expect from Converge this season? Will they tank or surprise us with strong performances? If they're letting go of their key players, they might end up like other teams that consistently perform poorly, such as Blackwater and Mahindra. Or perhaps, they could be acting as another farm team of SMB, which we might not be aware of as fans. This is unexpected since they're owned by a major telecom company, so I don't understand why they can't afford to keep players that could lead the team.

<> but afaik his role would be as a point guard.

According to the latest roster list, his position is not point guard but shooting guard.

https://www.espn.ph/nba/team/roster/_/name/lac/la-clippers

If he were to play as a point guard, it would mean Westbrook would be moved out of the starting lineup and placed in the second unit. I think that might not be a good move because Westbrook is known for his hustle on the floor, unlike Harden, who is not known for playing strong defense.
