741  Economy / Economics / Re: Being rich = not looking at price tag on: November 11, 2023, 02:15:21 AM
I was very lucky to have a father who taught me nothing but little life lessons growing up.  Whether it was little things or big, I was very lucky to be prepped the way I was.  I'll never forget us running in to one of his friends at the grocery store and having a brief convo with him.  Once his friend left I remember him telling me that the man was the richest man in the State.  He taught me how he didn't become rich by wasting money, and that even he saves up things like coupons.  That people didn't get rich by accident.  So OP you've got a very good point here.  People whom don't look at price tags end up becoming poor by being lazy and frivolous.
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Would you Like Your Pension Paid in Bitcoin? on: November 11, 2023, 02:11:16 AM
I guess it's a nice though, but I wouldn't beat yourself up over this.  It doesn't matter if you knew about bitcoin at the time or not, bitcoin was never going to be paid out as your pension payment, or your pension turning over to fully being established with bitcoin.  I've not heard of anything of this sort happening anywhere in the world, and highly doubt they would have gone for it.  Bitcoin is still simply too new, and too much needs to happen in order for this to happen anytime soon..IMO.
743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whatever happens, hold on to your Bitcoin. on: November 11, 2023, 02:08:25 AM
I would agree that if a bitcoin ETF does get shut down for some reason that the last thing everyone should be doing is going out and selling theirs.  This is of course called "panic selling" and is typically always the wrong idea for "investors".  It would seem to me that an ETF is now inevitable, so if it doesn't pass this coming round for whatever reason, it's only a matter of time until it does.
744  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Question for those who loose too frequently in gambling on: November 11, 2023, 02:06:27 AM
I think it depends on what games people are losing with. Some times of casino or gambling games are where people expect to lose quite frequently.  Where winning is something not expected to happen often.  I would compare games like this to scratch of lotto tickets.  People tend to win just enough to keep them coming back.  Otherwise I don't think people would keep playing if all they did was lose.
745  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 11, 2023, 02:04:26 AM
I mean averaging 18.8 ppg and 2.4 blocks per game on your rookie year is still great. We need to remember that Wembanyama is having his first ever season, he is just a rookie, and it's his early games. He is not suppose to end up playing like a superstar right away, he could be just very well doing fine, and that is understandable and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the dude is making sure that he stays healthy, I would consider that a win for him.

By my metric, anything above 15ppg, or even if he is closer to 20ppg like right now that's better, and anything above 2 blocks per game, with about 70 or more games played, is a rocking awesome rookie year. He can get a lot better later on, I think it's about year 5 when they start to actually be a superstar. Up until that point, they try to build their body to withstand 82 games, or at least as much as possible, some like AD never achieve that Cheesy. So if Wemby could get there, then I expect year 5 to be the "superstar" year.

Yep, Wemby has really good and promising stats, considering he's still a rookie in the NBA. In general, I agree that it takes about 4-5 seasons or even more for a promising player to progress from a rookie to a superstar. However, some players are exceptions in this regard. For example, LeBron and Durant actually became superstars during their second/third seasons, and Rose was able to become MVP after his third season.
Will Wemby have a chance to repeat the accomplishments of these guys? Sure, if he doesn't get seriously injured.

I don't think it will take four or five seasons for a guy of the caliber that Wemby is to get things going.  I've seen a lot of basketball over the years, and typically guys that heralded and with that much promise get going earlier than most will.

I'm just excited to see someone that tall being able to run up and down the court normally.  Back when guys of that height could hardly make it up and down the court.
746  Economy / Economics / Re: How Much Does Food Cost in Your Country? on: November 09, 2023, 10:59:16 PM
I want to know about the cost of living and average income in each country. Can I ask that here?

For comparison, may I ask how much a standard meal in your country costs for one meal? what is the standard food menu? What is the average monthly and annual income in your country? Please those who answer can use calculations in USD

Note: I don't need the tables issued by the government because they are usually different from the reality on the ground

Here in the United States the average cost of an average meal differs a good bit.  It really depends on what type of meal you're looking for.  Also, are we speaking breakfast, lunch or dinner?

I would say on average a breakfast costs around $5-7, lunch around $8-10 and dinner around $15 or so.  Now this differs greatly depending on where at in the country you plan on getting the meal from.  A dinner downtown chicago will cost a heck of a lot more than one in say Carbondale Illinois, a small little college town.
747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what if bitcoin becomes inferior on: November 09, 2023, 10:55:57 PM
I have always left in the possibility of bitcoin becoming an inferior coin and have always been on the lookout for such.  I think that it's entirely possible that bitcoin become a "lesser" coin, but I honestly don't think it's going to happen, or happen anytime soon.  The beautiful thing about the bitcoin blockchain is that it's programmable, and that changes can be made to help it keep up with new and innovative ways to run the blockchain.  Otherwise I would say there's no question that bitcoin becoem inferior to another plan.  Bitcoin also has the "first mover" advantage and that goes a long ways.
748  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: how to start betting on sports? on: November 09, 2023, 10:53:05 PM
If you aren't in to sports, than I wouldn't suggest or recommend betting on them, otherwise all you're simply doing is making a guess, and hoping for the best.  You'd probably be better off playing roulette or something similar.  For me, even though I know NBA and MLB quite well, I don't know either sport as well as I know NFL football, so therefor I really only bet NFL football for the most part (some MLB and NBA here and there but no much).

I lose money to easy betting the other sports I don't know as well.  So, I just wouldn't bet sports until you get to know them better.
749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greed or risk on: November 09, 2023, 10:50:08 PM
I saw this image below on one of my friend's WhatsApp statuses earlier today. I don't know if the game was played by him or if it was an image saved from somewhere, but the image got me thinking, and we got into a debate because of that.

I was telling someone that if I'm the one to have such a slip and the game is already showing me to cash out such an amount of money, which is equal to $865 based on our local exchange rate, seeing such an amount as cash out available and leaving it will make me appear like someone who is too greedy, but the guy was telling me it's not being greedy but it's all about taking risks. The debate didn't end well, so I decided to bring this up here to see the responses from experienced gamblers.

Lucky for anyone who ever has that bet slip, it seems like the game played in his favour.

I don't really see how an initial bet could be considered greed. I agree with them that it's really about risk and not greed. I guess you could view a bet as being greedy if lets say you placed a large bet and won a bunch of money and then all of a sudden that person decides to place another bet, one they had not planned on making, and one they weren't really prepared for, but were "greedy" having won a bunch of money just recently and thought that their hot streak/good luck would continue just because.  Now to me, that's greed.

Man if I am a Carolina Panthers fan, I'm hating my GM.  I saw Stroud as the #1 pick before the draft and it certainly seems to be playing out in that manner.

I recall that one quote from Frank Reich couple weeks back implying he didn't want Young:

source: https://athlonsports.com/nfl/frank-reich-troubling-admission-panthers-ownership-david-tepper
Quote
"There's different philosophies in ownership," Reich began. "Some owners kinda stay away and don't engage a whole lot, other owners do. [David Tepper's] philosophy is he's going to engage."

It's a bummer to have Stroud on my bench only to cover for Lamar's bye week, like everyone else has noted, kid is having a great season.

Yeah but it's not up to Frank Reich to make that decision.  I'm sure he probably had his say and they took his feelings in to consideration, but it's of course up to the GM..unless the GM is a bit held back from ownership.  Not sure how things run in Carolina to be honest.

What a banger of a game tonight ya'll..my Chicago Bears versus the Carolina Panthers.  Woowee this is going to be horrible lol.  I just actually want the Bears to win for once, a win put's us in better contention for the overall first pick next year.
751  Economy / Economics / Re: AI will put an end to work, says Elon Musk on: November 08, 2023, 10:40:43 PM
Oh good ole Elon Musk, talking out of his ass per usual.  I hope that I'm not alone when it comes to knowing that this man is completely full of shit and talks out of his ass constantly.

That being said I do agree with him that AI will become a threat to many aspects of our life.  That being said true AI hasn't been created yet, so we shall see where things land as "AI" turns in to AGI.  When it becomes self learning, then the game will really change.
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the Choice of Investors on: November 08, 2023, 10:38:03 PM
I've owned a few share of ARKK for a little while now.  It's been performing horribly over the last year or so.  I have left my money in it but probably will dump it here before long.  So I guess what I'm saying is I'm not sure I trust her judgement.  However I do agree that bitcoin is becoming a better asset/hedge etc as time has been going on when ETFs start to be issued here, I can see things really taking off.
753  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What conditions might cause you to stop gambling? on: November 08, 2023, 10:34:04 PM
I can't see there being really anything or any condition that would lead me to stop gambling.  I do really feel for those who can't control their gambling habits.  I know being addicted to gambling must be an extremely difficult thing to work with.  For me I simply bet enough money to really make a sizable impact one way or the other on my bottom line.
754  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 08, 2023, 10:31:39 PM
What do you guys think of this new in-season tournament that the NBA is putting together this year for the firs time in history.  Or at least I believe it's the first time.  I've never heard of the NBA even wanting to do something like this before.  This should be a pretty fun season overall and I can't wait to see how this new in-season tournament plays out.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: November 08, 2023, 10:29:56 PM
I need Ekeler to stay quiet tonight, anything less than 35 fantasy points would suffice. He hasn't scored > 30 points in any game this season, nor have the Jets allowed anyone to score 30 or more against them, but you never know...  That's two stressful MNFs in a row. Yay!  Grin
Obviously I need the opposite but I would not worry too much, in fact you had terrible luck as you left Stroud which threw for the most yards for a rookie ever on the bench, and the Ravens destroyed Seattle through their run game and sat Watson for most of the 4th quarter, but even then my team was terrible this week, in fact I only had a 23% chance of winning before our match started and that was with my main squad, and when I saw that I knew this week was going to be terrible for me.

Stroud absolutely destroyed it yesterday.  I watched almost 3 quarters of the game since the giants were the later game.  That kid looks like the real deal, Houston got themselves a player.  Looks like Carolina picked wrong.  Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a trabisky over mahomes type pick.  Way to early to say but cj is good.

Man if I am a Carolina Panthers fan, I'm hating my GM.  I saw Stroud as the #1 pick before the draft and it certainly seems to be playing out in that manner.

Did you notice that you came extremely close to beating me this week? That Chargers defense killed it and helped a ton of people win that thought they had no idea.  Charger defender stepped out of bounds and nearly had a TD right there at the end of the game that would have put you over the top.  Finally I catch a break lol.
756  Other / Meta / Re: I don't have good account security. on: November 05, 2023, 08:56:46 AM
I am new to this forum and have not learned anything yet. I don't see the account security in this forum, I opened the account and got no email notification, I logged in again and still no email notification. I think security should have been given while making this account.

As much as there are no security tools, they are good for those who want to enhance their privacy. You do not need an email to log in here, but you do need it if you want to recover your account. To secure your account, you need to prepare a strong password. Make sure that you can access the email associated with the account and sign a message with the Bitcoin address. Make sure someone else has quoted it.

There is no benefit from hacking Bitcoin accounts, so most hacker attacks are for blackmail, or using the account to join signature campaigns.

^second all that

Download a password manager like Bitwarden. Use an encrypted email service. Make a pc only account (main account) and one for cellular use (that is if it will be used less often). That way if your phone is sim swapped it won’t be for your main account and you can post on here not to trust your mobile account now because of it. If it’s a low ranking lightly used account hackers won’t want it anyhow.  Also the staking a btc account as others have mentioned. Doing all this is more than enough security.  2FA would be nice though.
757  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin: The smartest investment choice. on: November 03, 2023, 09:59:08 PM
It's important to keep in mind that bitcoin is NOT inherently an investment, and is as you do describe in your post, a decentralized form of currency.  Yes, bitcoin as most certainly become an investment just like all money has, but it's primary reason is not one that relies on it being an "investment'.  In facet I think that hurts bitcoins bottom line quite a bit.  I wish it was viewed in other ways more often.
758  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: November 03, 2023, 09:57:15 PM
It all depends on how you use that credit card and what part of the world you're living in.  Here in the United States it's typically pretty important to use credit cards that way you can build credit in case you need to borrow money for things such as a car and a home, which most people need help with.  The problem comes when people get in over their heads and use the card above their means and don't make their timely payments or keep the card paid off.
759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No advertisement for btc on: November 03, 2023, 09:55:34 PM
As other have pointed out and or will point out, there are technically some advertisements for bitcoin.  When outlets like Crypto.com have commercials, they're essentially promoting bitcoin.  But this is also what makes bitcoin great that there are no "direct" advertisements, only a centralized entity would pay for advertisements.  That's of course what makes bitcoin great, that it's not.
760  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What do you think about trading feature? on: November 03, 2023, 09:53:56 PM
I think this is kind of a cool concept when it comes to a simple sort of 50/50 game, but this is too sort of like investing in the stock market.  You're essentially betting on whats going to go up and down price wise for stocks.  I guess there is a bit more skill to that but it feel similar.  I like it when casino games aren't too overly complicated. It's nice just to make some mindless bets for fun.
