For those reasons, the court said that forcing the individual to decrypt the hard drives would not amount to self-incrimination since it would not change the outcome of the court case or their final ruling.
It's certainly interesting to think about. Imagine that the defendant was accused of embezzling 1000 BTC, but the actual number is much higher, 5000, for example. The court only knows and has evidence for the 1000 BTC. Providing them with access to the computer would be self-incriminating if they can obtain evidence for the remaining 4000 bitcoin. I wonder what would happen then.

Dear Pmalek, Are there any offers in the forum to earn pocket money. If yes, Could you please suggest me some?
I don't know what you personally consider pocket money. For some, $100 is something they spend on a night out with their friends, for others, it's more than what they can earn in a month of hard labor. Keep an eye on the Services board. Read through the first 5-10 pages to see what kind of things people offer and request. That will give you a better insight in what kind of services are sought after. After that, it's just a matter of applying for the things you can do or offer to do something you are trained for in exchange for Bitcoin and other alts.

Until you get to a higher rank (and if you do), you need to forget about signature campaigns and focus on learning about Bitcoin and making quality posts that the community will appreciate and reward.
7403  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: September 26, 2021, 06:54:17 AM
Chinese aren't included
Rikafip explained the reason for that several times. During most months, more posts get deleted in the Chinese board than new ones are written. That results in a negative post count at the end. Looking at previous months, the last (and maybe only time) it was included was in March 2021. It would look silly to have look at the charts and see a local community who has written -27 posts, for example.
7404  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout among all major Bookmakers + Free BTC on: September 26, 2021, 06:41:17 AM
the betting odds are good but what else are the activities lined up for  betja to attract bettors here? aside from the multi-insurance offered here, not to mention their free 100-sat hourly claim.
If you look at their Promotions page, that's really it for now. The Multi-Bet Insurance and the Free BTC promotion. They had a US Open promo but since that tournament ended, that one is over as well. You can see the winners list on the site. Other than that, they had a short-lived signature campaign if I remember correctly. I don't see any Betja signatures anymore, so that's also a thing of the past now.
7405  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: September 26, 2021, 06:33:27 AM
So we have to download it directly from ledger site then no matter what?
You don't need to download anything from Ledger's site just for the sake of updating, but you need to download the installation file whose authenticity you are verifying.

But again even though its posted how to check the legit files, i want to make sure I do it right.
The thread and the replies by other members show how to do it right. Don't ask questions for every step of the process. Everything is explained.

Has there been even one case of someone downloading ledger live from the correct ledger site and then downloading malware?
I just checked with all people on earth who use Ledger Live. The answer is negative.

Again I want to verify the ledger live but all this hash sum and these things... are not that simple.  So you need to download a hash on a different site before you download ledger live?
You do it exactly the way it was explained in the OP. That's why it was written in the first place. It wasn't written so that Jerry can ask whether or not it's the right way to do it.

I can't imagine for the average user that doing something like this is simple
My condolences.

If you just look at that... how do you even know where to look for the hash etc.
By reading what is written on the site from top to bottom. You can do that, right? Click on all of the links and download them to the same folder.

Now when i look at verifying the files... we also need to download another program?   I see its called hashbit.  How do you make sure a program like hashbit is malware free etc?
How have you made sure the other programs on your Windows computer are malware-free? Have you? Have you made sure the Ledger Live app you are using is malware-free? Use Hashbit if you want or try the open-source apps that dkbit98 recommended in one of his replies. Again, read the thread.
7406  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BITCOIN WALLET on: September 25, 2021, 06:11:26 PM
Laws specifying whether you can be required to provide your decryption key or password for data files to law enforcement or other agencies vary depending on the country you live in. US courts seem to (so far) be saying that doing so would violate an individual's Fifth Amendment rights.
The United States is a legal and logistical nightmare in such matters. They have Supreme Courts and Federal Courts.

This source that I found says that in 2019, the Massachusetts Supreme Court forced a defendant to reveal the unlocking code for this phone. During the same year, Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled that an accused individual does not have to disclose the password for his computer. Those are just some cases with courts of the highest level.
When it comes to Federal Courts, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a defendant had to unlock multiple computers and devices. But, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the defendant in a similar case.

Then we have the issue of biometrics. The source says:
Quote
Law enforcement is allowed to use people’s bodies as evidence against them, for instance by compelling them to participate in suspect lineups or provide their DNA. So if the police can take your fingerprints, can’t they use them to unlock your phone?
...
Quote
courts have been more likely to rule that the Fifth Amendment does not apply to biometrics than they are that it applies to passcodes.
...
Quote
Yet another factor to consider here is that, while it’s impossible for police to read your mind and get your passcode, they can hold a phone up to your face or press your finger on it to bypass the biometric lock. And while your lawyer can (and should) argue that any evidence found this way was illegally obtained and should be suppressed, there’s no guarantee they’ll win.

The conclusion is that it's safer to use a password/pin code than biometrics when it comes to password-protecting your personal devices.
Quote
So, all things considered, if you’re worried about law enforcement getting access to your phone, your safest bet is to just use a passcode.
*All quotes are from the source mentioned above.
7407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Can Happen If You Want to Trade Cryptocurrencies, but You Don’t Know How? on: September 25, 2021, 05:42:04 PM
I am wondering why people complain about getting money, and when they want to invest, they listen to the recommendations of unknown people from the Internet, or the recommendations of friends, or even try to imitate the investments of some.
Because their ultimate goal is to make money and profit. It is not to learn why a particular trading position should be opened or closed and based on what research and when. It's easier to trust some "expert" than doing the work yourself. He is after all an "expert". In one of those sources I mentioned in my OP (can't remember which one now), one of the people who lost money said they had no idea what they were trading. When asked why they are investing in those specific assets, one of them said because they seem to be performing really good at the moment.

That right there is the mindset of many. Crypto is something (not really sure what it is) that I can trade and make a lot of money (not sure how, but I guess it will eventually work out when I buy it).
7408  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: AirGapped Hardware Wallets on: September 25, 2021, 10:29:45 AM
maybe Trezor is real air-gapped, with a new update, we can generate a wallet without using the internet (suite)
That's now possible with the latest Trezor Suite and/or firmware, but Ledger still uses USB cables, which could represent a possible attack vector. You are still connecting your Trezor hardware wallet to an online computer through its USB port.

Most of the newcomers assume that it's too late to invest in Bitcoin and decide to touch altcoins whose market cap is much lower.
And cheaper. I mentioned in a different post a few days ago that people think they need that 1 Bitcoin, otherwise it doesn't make sense investing. They won't consider purchasing 0.1, or 0.004, that makes no sense to them.

Because Bitcoin is so expensive, and altcoins are much cheaper, some newcomers believe that it's only a matter of time before another coin reaches those price valuations of Bitcoin. All they have to do is find and invest in the right one. To be on the safe side, they prefer investing in a bunch of the contenders. However, they are not even considering the fundamentals and the reasons why Bitcoin is where it is and why other assets never will be.

Well I hope you consider changing this and soon allowing USA residents to use your site.
That decision might not be theirs to make. Although I don't see any proof of a betting license on the site, they could be applying those standard Curacao betting terms which restrict countries like the United States, France, the UK, and some others.

When we are on the topic of restricted countries. @BetJA.com: I couldn't find a list of countries whose players aren't allowed to play on your site. Can you add that to the T&S or state it here for us to know?

$50 is not bad to learn trading for over 6 months or more, it is a sign of patience which is very important in trading.
The thing is, cryptocurrency exchanges have anticipated such things, and many of them have relatively high minimum trading limits that you have to respect to be able to open a position. If you try to take that $50 in crypto, and you want to initiate several trades, you might be surprised when you see a notification that the sum is not big enough. And there is also the minimum withdrawal amounts + the fees to pay attention to when withdrawing. I don't frequent and trade that often, so I am not sure what those minimum orders look like now, but my guess would be $5-$10 per trade (if not more). Would that be correct?
7414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many accounts per User or Company ? on: September 25, 2021, 06:40:05 AM
There are two things you need to be aware of on this forum when it comes to bounties and signature campaigns:

- The campaign-specific rules. Like mentioned above, they mostly don't allow users to enroll multiple accounts.
- The standards of behavior set forth by the community. Here, I am referring to DT members.

Enrolling alt accounts in the same campaign is frowned upon around here. It's supposed to be one person - one account per campaign. Not one person taking up 5 spots in the same campaign. If you do that and people found out, and most of the time they will, you and your alternative accounts will be tagged and marked unsuitable for future participation in quality campaigns. So, don't do it and use only one account.

Instead of joining (mostly) worthless bounty campaigns, start to read and learn about Bitcoin. Understand what it's all about and once you do, better earning opportunities will present themselves.
7415  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: September 25, 2021, 06:27:11 AM
Just wondering why Pakistan doesn't appear in this above graph of "Merit senders and receivers"? I know since Pakistan is not a local board technically and may be tracking individual sender receiver might be tricky?
I think you have answered your own question. He only tracks merits distributed in sections which have their own local boards. Local threads, such as that of Pakistan are not included. I don't think it would make much sense to include the Pakistani local thread without also including the threads of Bangladesh, Serbia, Vietnam, Ukraine, etc. The names I mentioned are based solely on the number of posts in those language sections. And if you include one or two, there are always going to be questions why didn't you also include this one or that one...

Here Is What Can Happen If You Want to Trade Cryptocurrencies, but You Don’t Know How

Some beginners who come to Bitcointalk have a misconception about trading cryptocurrencies. They have heard some success stories and want to replicate them themselves. However, it’s a delusion to think that anyone can become a successful trader overnight, and all you have to do is purchase a few coins here and there, and the profits will start growing.

Trading crypto shouldn’t be taken lightly. Learning how to trade is a slow process that should be mastered slowly and patiently. Unfortunately, YouTube and social media don’t make things better because all they do is show you the glamourous side of trading. The cars, expensive houses, jewelry, and the women.

They don’t tell you about the shattered dreams, lost savings, and uncertain futures due to wrong trading decisions. The reality is, trading isn’t for everyone because not everyone has the discipline to only trade with the money they can afford to lose. So, for many people, buying and holding is the better choice.

I am writing this thread to warn beginners that there is another darker side to profits made with trading. These stories can maybe make you reconsider careless trading decisions or motivate you to learn how to trade correctly by studying the theory of successful crypto trading. A 10-minute YouTube clip is not enough.

1.

Jake is married and lives in the UK. He has a good job, is respected, and can make business decisions worth millions of pounds for this boss. Jake has known about Bitcoin since 2015, and in one of his first trades, he made some good profits.

Enchanted with his early success, he decides to trade with his employer’s funds. He wanted to experience that joy again and make even more money. So he borrowed company funds and invested everything into a risky trade. During the same night, his positions were liquidated, and he lost it all.

Quote
"The first time I took it, I lost it all in about 20 minutes one night. The market moved very rapidly and I liquidated everything.
Quote
"It was about 2am. I went back to bed and had to lie down next to my wife. She had no idea what I had been up to."

Jake lost Ł1.5 million of company resources, nearly avoided a lawsuit, and is now receiving treatment for crypto trading addiction.

2.

Noor lives in London. She is 30 years old and works as a designer. She lives with her boyfriend, is in love, and the two are saving to purchase their own house.

In November 2020, she became interested in crypto investments and wanted to trade cryptocurrencies. Her first purchase was Ł10.000 worth of bitcoin, whose value almost doubled, netting her a sum of over Ł18.000. Delighted with the results, she decided to cash out on bitcoin and invest in XRP and stocks instead. The biggest problem is that Noor doesn’t really know how to trade. She is just motivated by the hype and recommendations she sees from other investors.

But the market turned on her. XRP crashed, causing her to lose most of the investment. She read about the Gamestop stocks going through the roof and decided to recover her losses by purchasing those. Unfortunately, she entered the market too late and lost even more.

To sum up, Noor lost over Ł23.000 due to poor trading activities, believing the hype, and investing in something she knew nothing about. Her dream of becoming a homeowner has to be put on pause.

3.

The following story dates back to the ICO frenzy of 2017. Helvis is a regular guy who, like many others, dreamt about becoming rich with cryptocurrency trading. He didn’t have a lot, but he had around $2.000 that he decided to invest.

Influenced by John McAfee and similar crypto influencers, he invested in the privacy coin Verge and in Tron. With those two purchases alone, he managed to turn his $2.000 into $60.000 within a few months. But, since he wanted more, his next decision was to buy Ethereum.

But soon, the market sentiment started to turn, and the prices began crashing. Like many others at the time, Helvis also became interested in ICOs and decided to try his luck with margin trading. Trading with money you don’t even have seemed too good to be true.

Since he didn’t know what he was doing and took too many risks with high leverage trades, Helvis lost nearly all of the $60.000 that he netted on Verge and Tron.

4.

British Youtuber and rapper KSI is another newbie trader who wanted to play around with bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. So in November and December 2020, he invested Ł2 million into bitcoin and, assumably, some other altcoins. Initially, everything was going great, and KSI made Ł7 million on those initial investments.

But as it usually happens, he wanted more. Without knowledge and experience about margin trading and trading with leverage, he went all-in on that gamble. He liquidated all of his positions and lost the whole sum of Ł7 million.

KSI understands what he did was wrong, and he takes full responsibility for his actions. Nevertheless, he is still bullish on bitcoin and believes in the underlying technology.

Quote
“It’s been a full journey, but I had to experience it. I fully understand it now. I put money in things where I essentially leveraged myself and I kinda over leveraged myself to a point where I lost money because of it.”
Quote
“Bitcoin is here to stay; it is the future. It’s just no one want to accept it. I’ve lost Ł7m and i’m still fully crypto.”

Bottom Line

You shouldn’t be discouraged from trading crypto, but you need to realize the dangers associated with it. Without significant research, you are gambling with your own future. As the above examples have shown, with money, you can’t afford to lose.

Before you start dreaming about what you will do with your profits after you discovered the next Bitcoin and made x1000 on your trade, think about whether or not you will miss that money if you lose it. Start small and play it safe. Purchase bitcoin, hold it and be happy that you still belong to the early adopters.

Good Luck!

Slot games are completely based on luck. Someone will say, well other casino games are the same way. But if you play card games and games versus real people, you always have that human factor that affects the outcome. With slots, that's not the case. It's basically clicking a spin button and waiting to see what comes up. They are attractive due to their graphics, music, sound effects, branding, and other things.

I loved playing Hotline 2 a while back. Everything about the game was enjoyable. Particularly the 80's soundtrack and the streets and beaches of Miami.

Maybe we need to make some posters, stickers and advertisements for attracting young new ₿lood for local forum  Cheesy
The occasional mention of Bitcointalk in Croatian forums about technology, IT, and stuff like that could maybe get some new people interested.

Fun fact: As of August, the Russian board had distributed a total of 2850 merits, which is 741 more than the meta (2109), they are already at 1627 in September with 7 days to go I'm betting they have more merit sources than any other board, or the board is full of high-quality posters and generous givers. Smiley
I think it's a combination of both those things. It's the biggest local board with more active members than anywhere else. I just took a look at Rikafip's stats showing the members who were most active in the Russian local. Obviously we have all seen Ratimov around, but I have no idea who D-oN_ is (2nd on the list in terms of activity). Looking at the first 5 pages from his post history, all his posts were made in the Russian boards.

It's the same thing with the 3rd most active Russian - The0ldl_lser. Not a single post in English in the first 5 pages of his post history.
Azrieli has a few posts in English, but the majority of his writing also takes place in the local sub.

I bet there are many Russians who don't even speak English or write in the English boards, but they are very active on Bitcointalk and get plenty of merits in the local board alone.
7419  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BITCOIN WALLET on: September 24, 2021, 08:56:10 AM
There is no system in the world which is 100% safe and secure and completely impervious to all attacks. However, this article makes it sound like stealing data from an air gapped machine is almost trivial, which it obviously is not.
it's one thing to want to stay protected from a thief who targets you and wants to steal from you. It's a whole other level if you get on the radar of a serious government agency who decides to take you down (darknet markets, Silk Road, etc.). Your primary concern should be to to remain protected from the first type of adversary. Your secondary concern should be not to do illegal things that would result in you becoming a target for the latter. Because if you do, you are gonna have more important things to worry about than how safe your bitcoin wallet is. This is not a response to you personally, just some of my thoughts. No one is untouchable.
7420  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I find signature campaigns ? on: September 24, 2021, 08:38:48 AM
But my personal suggestion is just join a new project's signature campaign and paid by the project's token...
No offense, but that's the worst kind of advice you can give.

I took a look at some of your ETH addresses.
- You have $1 worth of tokens in one of them.
- A second one shows $8 worth of tokens.

I don't know what those addresses had at one point in the future, but I doubt it's something worth mentioning.

New projects signature is sometimes paid more than btc paid campaigns, but there are also some scam projects too, just be careful of choosing project to promote.
Those days are gone when you could make good returns gambling on unlisted tokens. That's hardly relevant today. I am sure the occasional opportunity still pops up every now and then, but that's an exception rather than a rule.
