7441  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Reclaiming Lost UTXOs and Deleting Empty Blocks on: September 21, 2021, 09:10:02 AM
I remember it used to give me a popup window saying "Electrum has stopped working."

Problem event name: APPCRASH
Fault module name: ig4dev64.dll
This is a problem on your end. You are probably using outdated drivers for your graphics cards or you are missing some essential Windows updates. Are you using Windows 7 btw? If so, Electrum requires Service Pack 1 and a few other KB installs.

According to search results, "ig4dev64.dll" and similar errors have to do with Intel Graphics cards. Again, check your Windows Updates and ensure everything is up-to-date, including driver updates for your GPU.

Plagiarism by Ruvi2000sew.

On September 08, I wrote this post:
Considering all the issues we have seen recently with their workers abusing internal databases and now creating malfunctioning devices, I am starting to think that Ledger isn't paying their workforce enough and this is the way they protest. It's either that or they are employing incompetent idiots who don't care about anything and just want to see the world burn.

Ruvi2000sew thought it would be a good idea to use a text spinner, change a few words, and post the modified post in the same thread as my reply:
Given the numerous incidents of its employees misusing internal databases and now manufacturing faulty devices, I'm beginning to believe that Ledger is underpaying their employees and this is how they protest. Either that, or they're employing inept jerks who don't give a damn about anything and only want to see the world burn.

I haven't checked, but I doubt this is the only instance he has done that with posts written by other forum members.

@Ruvi2000sew
Are you serious? You though it would be a good idea to try your text spinning and copy-pasting capabilities in the same thread where you got the post from? Your software failed at changing the last sentence - the one about the world burning.

7444  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Question about the seed words and their safety on: September 21, 2021, 08:27:30 AM
I urge you to take a look at this thread I started about a month ago > A. Antonopoulos’ Take on Seed Splitting and Bruteforcing.

Andreas explains why it's a bad idea to split your seed into multiple locations, how that reduces the entropy, and makes the seed exponentially easier to brute-force (maybe) sometimes in the future. There are also great posts by forum members and Andreas explains how Shamir's Secret Sharing Scheme makes it impossible for someone to gain an advantage (in terms of brute-forcing) if he discovered one part of the share. Less than the quorum, to be precise.
7445  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BITCOIN WALLET on: September 21, 2021, 08:10:31 AM
The wallet that the crypto community believes to be safest because they are not exposed to danger is a hardware wallet (ledger)
Danger is too broad of a term. If we are only talking about the safety of your private keys and ultimately your crypto, sure, Ledger manages to achieve that. But Ledger hasn't handled themselves properly during the database leak, so they failed to protect the privacy of their customers. They are currently failing at the production of Nano X's because too many of them have battery issues. Ledger isn't great, neither is Trezor or Electrum. Electrum is a software wallet. Although it's one of the best in its class, it's still a hot wallet (unless you are using it as a cold storage) and can't be compared to a hardware wallet or a properly airgapped device.
7446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learn from others experience on: September 20, 2021, 04:19:10 PM
The thing about learning from other experiences is that you won't experience the same thing so you cannot feel the same way as that people have experienced, failure should be felt first before we succeed that is why it is way better to learn from your own mistakes, you gain experience and knowledge by that thing.
Are you sure you want to experience all the negative sides of crypto so that you can learn from them? You feel like bleeding, losing money, having your identity stolen, getting hacked, phished, and having your devices destroyed or corrupted by malware? What about pump & dump schemes and pyramid scams. Would you like to be tricked and invest money in those? I would rather not. I prefer reading about them, being cautious, applying security recommendations, and using my common sense to avoid all of the above and more. If I can.
7447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My definition of Bitcointalk.org on: September 20, 2021, 04:07:41 PM
That is why I am not always pleased when some older members tackle newbies by asking them if they cannot just use an ordinary Google search.
A Google (or other search engine) search helps in many cases, but if that is not something the user prefers he still has a few other options:

  • Use the forum's search feature.
  • Use the search bar in the top right corner which you can see in every thread and sub-board.
  • Instead of a standard Google search, search with the code site:bitcointalk.org insert search term.
  • Use Ninjastic.space to search for content according to the specified search parameters.

7449  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk's important historic changes on: September 20, 2021, 03:49:57 PM
I tried to search the use case of Archival board in Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ but failed (not sure why). Anyway, the short description is
  • Archival: Old stuff.
The Archival is used as a testing ground by some members. I have seen campaign managers and ANN thread creators post threads there to check how they look before creating the official thread in another section of the forum. I don't know if the use cases for Archival changed throughout the years, but here is what theymos had to say about it in one of his posts:

Old threads don't need to be moved to Archival. Just lock them. Archival is meant to be used by moderators in only a few rare situations. (Though I don't mind if you move your obsolete topics there if you want to for some reason.)
It was never intended to be a graveyard, but theymos doesn't mind that it became one. Maybe someone else has some more information about the "rare situations" it was supposed to be used for.
7450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if I don't know how to trade on: September 20, 2021, 12:25:49 PM
It seems that those who are relatively new in this forum focus way too much on trading. It's almost comparable to people wanting to make a living by gambling and playing casino games. The odds are against you all of the time. Keep that in mind. That's why we have 100s of casinos and sportsbooks. If they were losing money, they would close down. Instead, new ones are popping up all over the place.

There is nothing wrong in seeking knowledge, showing an interest in trading, and wanting to make money. But I have a feeling that people don't realize how many traders lose all of their funds and fail. Those who lose never get the spotlight, so you don't hear their stories. It's those selected few who manage to make some profits who are in the center of attention.

For general folks, trading is not a skill they ever need to master. Just buy the coin in a quantity and at a price you are comfortable with. Hold it for as long as you want. Convert it back to fiat or trade it for goods and services when the price has gotten to a point you are satisfied with. For the majority, this should be enough.

Do you give me a quote? I can not find it.
It took me a while, but I managed to find it. I remembered that I merited the person who shared the quote, which made it much easier. Upgrade00 quoted theymos here

The original post by theymos dates back to 2015. It's this one:
I can manually make threads self-moderated (only I can do this), but I only do this if the thread is extremely long/entrenched and the OP is trustworthy, since you are not allowed to delete any posts made before the topic became self-moderated.

Pa zar je moguće da je najduži bounty u historiji kriptovaluta završio!? Skoro 1300 dana je trajao ako je tačno ovo što im je bounty manager napisao u zadnjem postu. Sad još par godina strpljenja dok sračunaju nagrade i podjele tokene. Ide to polako ali sigurno.

Imas sajt koji prati sve ATM coinatmradar
FatFork je tu stranicu naveo u svojoj prvoj rečenici...
Podaci s Coin ATM Radar web stranice...
Smiley
7454  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk's important historic changes on: September 20, 2021, 09:19:53 AM
You can not convert a non-self-moderated topic to a self-moderated topic.
A regular user can't, but theymos can and he is the only one that can do it. But only if there is a valid reason for it. This was discussed yesterday (I don't feel like searching for the thread) and someone shared a quote from theymos where he mentioned that he has the ability to make such conversions. However, only posts made after the conversion can be self-moderated by the OP. Posts written before aren't affected and can't be deleted.
7455  Other / Meta / Re: New sub-board idea on: September 20, 2021, 09:13:34 AM
I'm a bit curious though, what does fad du jour means?
It's like hype. Suchmoon is suggesting that the NFTs might be causing a craze right now, but their popularity will drop sooner or later. It makes no sense creating a board for something that will most probably have a similar fate to ICOs that were once popular, but were later abandoned for other types of money-grabbing/generating systems.

If you do a Google search on "fad du jour" it will also tell you that it is "something that has short-lived popularity or publicity".
7456  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: September 19, 2021, 07:53:02 PM
Such sites are basically scam sites in disguise. This is basically a new and smart technique to try and extract money from their gamblers.
I have to disagree with them being a scam. I don't like the way they are handling withdrawals, but they shouldn't be called scammers. If the amounts are clearly displayed and they aren't trying to hide how much is being charged, it's the responsibility of the players to check the requirements before they deposit and start playing there. It's a completely different story if the amounts suddenly change after you deposited and started playing.

It basically adds another issue for gamblers to worry about which is why such sites need to be avoided.
This part is true. Since there are better alternatives, I see no reason why I should play on a site that takes a big chunk out of my profits when I can withdraw all of it elsewhere.
7457  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀Bitgame.com|🔥LUT Lightpaper is Launched|⚡️Crypto Betting + Weekly Divs|⚽️🎮 on: September 19, 2021, 07:45:18 PM
Welcome to Bitcointalk guys. Although you aren't brand-new, the ANN thread is.

I like the design, it's easy on the eyes. I did notice the following though. At the bottom of the page, you have those names for different game providers, names for different coins, chains, etc. However, nothing happens when you click on them. I think those buttons should either redirect users to the official sites of those providers or redirect the players to all the games that you are hosting by that specific party on your casino. That's the way some other competitors of yours do it. The way it is now is just odd.
7458  Other / Meta / Re: Creating فارسی (Persian) Sub-Board under Local Board on: September 19, 2021, 08:59:00 AM
I'm not sure if it helps Persian speakers to learn bitcoin more efficiently or not? But I recognized that they seriously want it.
Why do you personally want it? This is literally your first post on this forum. You haven't contributed anything in the Persian thread.

Honestly, I don't see it happening. I just took a look at your local thread and pages 30 and 31 contain everything you wrote in 2021. With 20 posts per page, you didn't even write 40 posts in January-September of 2021. There are many other languages who deserve a local board before you do. The Nigerians requested one and have still not gotten their wish granted. Use their local thread as a comparison with your own to calculate your odds. I don't think they look good.
7459  Other / Meta / Re: Why people plagiarize on: September 19, 2021, 08:27:50 AM
But why people don't use their brain creating posts? It takes minutes to write something, not hours..
You can't use your brain if you don't have any knowledge of the things you write about. People copy-paste because it's easier to meet their post quota. They post because they want to earn. They aren't interested in learning about Bitcoin, acquiring some knowledge and experience, and displaying that through their posts. Many don't even speak English, like The Pharmacist mentioned.
7460  Other / Meta / Re: Conversion from Self-Mod to normal thread on: September 19, 2021, 08:12:43 AM
I understand why someone would want to convert a regular thread in a self-moderated thread, but I see no point in doing it the other way around. If your thread is already self-moderated, why would you want to change that? Keeping it self-moderated gives your greater control and the ability to delete spam posts, messages by trolls, and off-topic replies. I can't see a flaw in having a self-moderated thread honestly.
