7461  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [EDU]How to protect your wallet on: August 14, 2015, 07:48:50 PM
well i doubt microsoft will ever steal your wallet, so your bitcoin are safe anyway with windows 10, i could be wrong but weren't the old windows version running something similar inside the kernel, hard coded?
because i doubt that they were 100% anti-privacy free, maybe only the first version like windows 3.1, 95 and 98, and perhaps xp, also i remember that in the cpu, intel installed something that can send them info

The problem is: if microsoft can do it, others might be able to do it as well. E.g. microsoft does not use certificate pinning[1] for the transfer of your sensitive data. It might be possible for someone to replace the SSL cert by another one and sniff the data on the way.

SSL certs are surprisingly cheap at some sites, others charge a fortune.  But I received some more security training recently.   Replacing certs with ones that have wildcards are kinda scary to say the least.

If they get to the point they are replacing your certs though chances are they have your pc pretty much compromised.   And it most likely is keylogging along with many other things.

You should really dedicate a computer to making your private key if your going to do it.  A fresh install of OS with scans of virus/malware after.   And I would blow OS away after making cold storage.   I would be over cautious myself.

Currently my main side project is learning Radio Frequency security better.   Still have a way's to go fun with it being new though.
7462  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: terrible firmware destroyed my investment on: August 14, 2015, 07:41:54 PM
yes I've been trying 115200 for weeks now do I try a different baud with those settings?  there is just nonsense output in the putty window which is active.  anyway I could have shipped out the s3+ I found a local buyer
yeah with the debug holes facing me I attached white green black or green white black

I need to not connect ground and set display to ANSI?

My best advice is try to go over to bitmain's official site: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

Depending on who you get you might get someone over there willing to help try it remote.  But I think they are your best bet.
7463  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: August 14, 2015, 07:38:40 PM
Almost there:

@J4bberwock,

will you create a new post specifically for your new toys? So far I could see, I'm betting all my coins on your project than SF100...

I would love to have a custom made board like this one ... I 'm watching this one a lot .

I have to agree looks very nice with white PCB!   Thanks for keeping us up to date.

To be able to play with these chips and not pay 1.2k would have many customers I think.   So I think you have a market Smiley
7464  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Maintenance for Bitmain Miners on: August 14, 2015, 07:35:41 PM
It depends on the environment that you're keeping the S5's in - but in general, all I do is hit them with compressed air and blow out any dust that might have built up about once a month, and I think I'm doing more than most people.  Once they're setup and running, they pretty much do their own thing unless something goes wrong, and in general, beyond watching temps and making sure fans are spinning, there isn't much that can go wrong.

Watching temps is a big thing for a lot of us right now with it being summer.   We are mining in a hotter season.  I am surprised at how well my miners have done ( I did add a lot of fans though).

Most will just need to blow out dust once in a while if you have a good place they are in.   Rubbing alcohol can help on heat sinks if so bad it can't be blown out, but if you get to this point you have a problem.
7465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CloudThink.IO NEW 8TH/s Imperator Bitcoin Miner - Apply for a FREE test unit on: August 14, 2015, 07:31:39 PM
I never saw a price attached to "The Imperator", nor payment terms. That's what it made seem so odd as a scam.  How do you "steal" money if you never ask for it?

I did see used S5's for sale at $199, and I think those were clearly a scam. I think one member reported that.

I suspect the intention was to drive people to the site where they might buy those 'bargain' *cough* s5's and maybe an odd person would order an imperator direct.

It was so low priced that it stuck out.  I hope no one ordered from them.   As far as them running it's obvious they had an agenda.   Was some sort of going out trying to get sales.

I hope in scam section if anyone did get cheated they are able to try to go after "Richard Coleman" in court.   I believe they said UK they were at but I'm not sure I would believe anything the said.
7466  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HOW TO CHANGE DIFFUCULTY OF ANT MINER S5 on: August 14, 2015, 07:26:58 PM
Why all caps?

Because it is a head line.

My little screamer, find first the Edit button .
After that I will perhaps  answer to  your question   Wink

I do not care.If some body cares and help I really appreciate, if not it is ok too. Nobody has an obligation to help another.

But no one can tell me what to do or not.

I believe antpool is picking the "best" difficulty.   As you mine the pool changes depending on how your miner is doing.

I have used this standard where it auto picks difficulty without any problems with antpool.
7467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 14, 2015, 07:23:41 PM
B1 sold out!

Edit: Not anymore it seems Smiley

Appears to have some stock again.  Thank you Bitmain for not making it just China market.

Now I need to do some ROI math.  Wish it had PSU's included with it, but not a deal breaker.
7468  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Good miner for experimentation? on: August 14, 2015, 07:16:41 PM
What is your electricity rate?  This will tell us a lot.

I personally judge miner to recommend a lot on this one varible.   Tells me if you have a chance at ROI or should just do a fun miner.
7469  Other / Archival / Re: Diff thread Aug 8 to Aug 22nd picks are open. on: August 14, 2015, 07:14:10 PM
At least price is going up a little bit.  Currently around 266 now if we could only get in 270's again.

Hopefully difficulty goes down a tad though.  Would rather have the 1-2 percent.
7470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s3 questions and trouble shooting on: August 14, 2015, 06:57:47 AM
I bought the miner knowing it had issues. I was hoping it was fixable. at 25 bucks no biggie right. The previous owner stated it was a controller board issue.

The PSU is a dell 750 watt server power supply the same ones I used for my other miners I pull this one off of a currently in use miner for the testing. I only ran this one miner on the power supply with nothing else hooked to it. I basically pulled the cables from one and pulled them into this one.

I haven't had a chance to mess with the firmware since I am unable to connect into it or see it on the network. I will try the 19.168.0.1 thru 254 later tonight and see if anything come up.

I know in the S1 to S3 upgrade kit they make you use the S1 controller and put it into the s3 and update the firmware from s1 to s3. I just don't know where to plug the third small cable in form the s1 controller that plugs into the has board. Since the S3 doesn't seem to have the extra cable.

I will update you if I can connect to it on the 192.168.0 net work later tonight or in the morning. i will also check out the links and see if there is something I havent already seen yet.

thanks for the information and help so far.

Glen

*Update* I have read both the links before unfortunately  and has given me nothing more than I already knew.. but thank you for trying. If I go by the led status I it says the miner is above 80C red light flashing and no fans spinning. But the temp is by far not above 30C because I barely just turned it on from shipping. Maybe it thinks it is to hot when it is not?

I tried scanning the 192.168.0.1 thru 254 after changing my my computers ip address to the same and came up with nothing.

Any more suggestions.

I also found I could use the s1 controller but i am missing a back plane board that comes with the upgrade kit.. Sad

Yea they do not normally share parts on controller boards.  If it was a fan or something a lot  of them then would be ok to swap.

If it is truly a firmware problem that means most likely old user bricked the controller.  Most can be recovered with a serial to usb adapter and software.  Put in a ticket over at bitmain and they should help you through it https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/
7471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: August 14, 2015, 06:48:15 AM
There is a huge difference between selling a few things of hardware and having a full datacenter of gear.  Most do not have a full data center.  I only trust 2 services myself.  And most I mine with my own hardware as I enjoy it.
You did not read my post. I did not say that PB mining was selling hardware. Read again.

I am not spreading wrong info.  Please do your own research before buying any investment including cloud miining.  I think you will find cloud mining is full of scams, and selling a few things on ebay is NOTING like having a data center of hardware.
I have done more research about cloud mining ponzis than most of the scumbag on this bloody forum. I was one of the three guys who outed the PB mining scam. Check https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=885224.0.

PB mining is nothing like Hashnest or Bit-X.   You need to do some more research and stop spreading half truths, or even worse if you believe what you speak.
Putting Hashnest & Bit-X in the same bracket is clean wrong. I dont have much info about Hashnest. But, Bit-X is clearly playing foul so far. The one and only support for Bit-X so far is the 1Phs vouch from BitFury. You people are claiming that this shows Bit-X has hash power. True. They have hash power. But, how much they are selling ? PB mining also had hash power that they were selling on eBay. But, they sold much more than they had. This is where the Ponzi game comes in and this is where the similarity of Bit-X and PB mining. With 1Phs hash power in pocket and huge ad campaign, no one knows how much Bit-X is selling. This is as good as other cloud mining ponzis. So, when you call Bit-X legit and wear their signature, you are practically promoting a scam.

p.s. I'll change my statement about Bit-X or any other cloud mining if they can show their mining address and sold hash power in real time.

I say for everyone to do their own research, there is a reason for this.   I want them to make their own decision on what is a "good" cloud mining site.

The vouch from Bitfury is more then most cloud companies have.  And I think put's bitx far above PB Mining.  You can look for a argument but fact is PB Mining is even legit is laughable.   The offer 5 year contract.... no gear is good for 5 years.   It just does not happen.  And that is just a start.

I do agree Hashnest is most likely the number one seller on cloud mining.  I have some there aswell (small amount) as I mine most of the gear myself.   There is no one fighting them being legit.

You saying i am promoting a scam is not right, and slander.  Fact is i use the highest paying sig campaign that I can agree with.  They let me speak my mind with no limit on what I can say on Bit-X.  I have been in their signature campaign longer then the age of your account.   And fact is this is not the place to argue signatures go to meta for that.

I think your looking for a argument where there is not one.
7472  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer R1 on: August 14, 2015, 04:11:12 AM
Looks like we are finally seeing our first miner in a device, I assume this uses one of the new S7 chips in it instead of just throwing it on a usb stick. This could be really cool to check out!

The 2w is for the router only part, don't expect that to be the power draw while mining expect a at least one chip or two in there.

would you pay 7k for that ?.

I think they mean it would be around 7k if you got a block with it.  So it's talking about possible reward, not cost I think.

Again I could be wrong but I'm thinking they are talking about it winning at "lotto" or solo mine with little device.
7473  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Massive explosion in the Chinese city of Tinjian is due to btc mining? on: August 14, 2015, 04:07:13 AM
Where there is fire there is bitcoin explosion.

As far as news I truly hope it is not related to BTC.  This explosion hurt a lot of people, which is sad and bad.   The last thing BTC needs is to be tied to something killing people.

Looking at it I truly don't think it's BTC with the amount of explosion.   But I always could be wrong.

Thank you for posting.  I was checking in here to see if was me or something else from earlier.

Happy to find it was not just me.  What is best way to know in advance of these?   Was the thread in meta the way others found out in advance?
7475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is the best online bitcoin wallet on: August 14, 2015, 03:55:27 AM
I have been thinking about this and true anwser is no online wallet is the best.  All online ones have risks that cold wallets do not.

Some online wallets are needed for small spending, so I agree there is a need.  Keep with well known and tested online wallets is best advice.  Look for one with a long history, and a good history.

If the offer anything such as interest or something to good to be true then stay away it is a scam.  I have not seen a interest ponzi in a while on wallets, so I suppose that is good.
7476  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: August 14, 2015, 03:51:01 AM
Did a little bit of fine tuning on some of my miners.  Makes a small amount more, but still more efficient so always a good thing.

Need to sell a half working C1 that should be a tad bit of coin since controller is no longer  being produce and they are out.
7477  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best way for earning bitcoins on: August 14, 2015, 03:48:47 AM
i don't have any experience on tranding, i'm just have a little lucky so i prefer to use gambling Smiley
haha yes it is better, I do not have experience when trading and my random origin when buying coins, later the coin is the price getting down further and I lost a lot. trading has been like gambling lol
But in gambling you have very low chance of recovery and trading you can do this just patience and study is key of success
yes you are right, but I am a person who can not wait long. I prefer to win quickly as gambling Smiley.

I would call it more of a high risk investment if done right.  You know your individual factors that make mining specifically possibly.  If you trade without knowing what your doing you can lose quick, or win if you have luck.

A gamble to me is going out putting money on a roll of dice or something where past does not effect future.  Something that is purely random.
7478  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Drop in Hashrate w/ Antminer S5 on: August 14, 2015, 03:45:22 AM
The light I was referring to is on the top of the hash boards next to one of the power connectors.

Is this it?

However the question was only really relevant if you were hashing at about half speed to identify if one board had gone down. As you are not hashing at all then it might be a problem with the controller.

I returned the hashrate to default settings after a while and there was no change.

Yes that is the light that he is referring to.  And it is not a good thing to have.

Here is official reference to fixing hashing board problems: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204875015-How-to-diagnose-S5-hashing-PCB
7479  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s3 questions and trouble shooting on: August 14, 2015, 03:42:26 AM
So I just picked up a s3 for 25 bucks, Trying to figure out what's wrong with it.

So I hooked it up to a good power supply, good as in it has been running another s3 of miners. So I know the power supply is good.

After turning the unit on. The fan do not start or try to spin at all.

The red light on the front of the unit is flashing at a normal speed of 1 flash per second and the green light on the on the ether net is flashing but has a pattern of 3 flashes one flash and almost like a dimming flash then start back to flashing 3 flashes again. There is also a red light on the control board around the 3.3v location or R42 on top of the controller.

I am unable to see the miner on my network by scanning from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255.

So I tried a factory reset. Held the button down for ten seconds and let off waited. While holding the reset button the green light goes out but the red light keeps flashing. The 3.3v red led on the control board stays the same.

After resetting the miner the green light never returns and I am still unable to see the unit on my network. I give the unit a power cycle and the same issues mention above come back.

Any suggestion.

Also I have a couple of s1's laying around think I could switch out the controller board and upgrade the firmware form s1 to s3?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Glen

Not to my knowledge are S1 able to be used for S3 controller boards.  In perfect world that would be nice... but each model tends to have its own controller.

Have you tried to connect with something on 192.168.0.X network to see if it sees anything there?  Have you been doing anything with firmware? What PSU model are you using?  Did past owner say if it worked as 25 dollars I would assume something was wrong with it.

Official diagnostics are here: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203341575-Hash-Board-Diagnostics and led status are in: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200916329-S3-Manual
7480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer R1 on: August 14, 2015, 03:35:23 AM
But No actual specs on hashrate or if its self cooled.
It seems to only solo mine, still a nice little solo miner in a phone charger and access point if need be, I will definitely be keeping an eye on this little product.

Reading it I'm thinking the same thing.   I think it will have stats of regular miners pointed to antpool, but I think these routers look like "lotto" devices.

Guess time will tell on that.
Yeah it says that if you hit they will call you and help you redeem your coins so it seems it is a solo like pool through antminer like CK's but they are aiming for new users and the inexperienced.

I really wish they provided more details on speed.  I think someone screwed up adding it early to site.

I find it interesting they show it in third pic talking about taking with you looking like a hotel.  So they are recommending it travel with you, interesting idea for a small miner.

I will be honest though I really don't want it as a main router.  I would love one to play with but chances are I would use as lotto device not use as main router.  Unless they really surprise me with a feature for having it in front of our miners.
