I don't know that we've been in a bear market for the last few months, as bitcoin's price has been just flat. It's been more of a stretch of price stability. Bear markets are defined as something like a drop of 10% over the course of a year, but it seems like that already happened quite a while ago--the drop from $20k to where bitcoin is today happened relatively quickly, and it's been stalled for what seems like forever.
If bitcoin stayed in the $3500-4000 range for all of 2019, I don't think that would qualify as a bear market. Nevertheless I'm hoping that btc doesn't remain in that rangr all year, that it can at least hit $5000 by year's end. A stable price might be great if you're using btc as a currency, but I rarely do. And new investors generally won't be attracted to an asset that isn't doing anything.

How about just trading with............ Iphone or a smart phone device??? Yes/no??
I logged into Binance with my iPhone and iPad and it just does not fully work no matter what I do.
I use Binance occasionally, but it's always been on my desktop PC, running the typical Windows 10 with McAfee. Never tried it on my phone, but that surprises me that you're having a hard time with them on your phone--I imagine lots of traders do a substantial amount of business on the go. When I used to fool around with trading on Yobit (not recommended these days), I would often place orders while out for a walk in my neighborhood, and it was very easy to do it. Then again, I had no use for a lot of the graphical trading tools, which wouldn't look so hot on a tiny smartphone. Ultimately, whatever you choose should work just fine for you. My computer eventually bit the dust because it was old, but Binance was still fully functional when I used that PC to access their site. Good luck.

I don't usually bid on anything, but I always browse the Collectibles section and this is for a good cause, so I'm bidding 0.035BTC.
If you need verification or anything, just PM me.

I don't particularly care for that article, because it doesn't give you the whole quote from JPM, and I don't really trust any media source to interpret quotes correctly.
Also, I'm not sure there's any clear definition of what constitutes a "dystopian" society. Some might call present-day Venezuela pretty dystopian, while others might be thinking along the lines of The Walking Dead. The further you go into dystopia, the less likely bitcoin is going to be viable as a currency--or even an asset. If we're talking about a situation where the internet or the power grid is down, nobody is going to have any use for crypto.
But hey, this is JP Morgan here. Take all of this with an enormous shaker of NaCl.

Huh. I honestly wasn't aware that mods got paid different amounts, but I guess it makes total sense. Some sections are snake pits as far as shitposting and spam go, and they generally need much more moderating than other sections--whether that happens or not is another story. You learn something new every day.
I sort of wonder what the limits are as well, i.e., what Theymos allows mods to do vs. what they're not allowed to do as far as deleting posts/threads/banning members. The main reason I don't want to be a mod (but not the only reason) is because of what I assume would be a lack of real power to clean up the forum. I don't think Theymos wants mods to go crazy deleting stuff and banning members. My guess is that it would therefore be an extremely frustrating job.
Where did hilariousandco go, anyway? Haven't seen him around much lately.

I have PMed Lucius since you don't want to.
Good deal, hopefully he drops by to say hello and explain himself--better yet, remove the feedback. I forgot to add in my previous post that deisik isn't even a shitposter from what I've seen (although I'm well aware that everyone's standards are different), so this particular feedback is just wrong in all respects. Bottom line is that no one should be leaving negs based on the quality of a person's posts. It doesn't matter if you're on DT or not; it's not a good use of the trust system, and we basically stopped doing it when the merit system came along.
|
|
|
Its ironic that OP asks such a loaded question with no proof that Theymos was told to do anything, yet requires posts here to offer proof to back up whatever is stated.
I don't think it's likely that Theymos was listening to anyone in particular when he made the 250 merit thing. He's always struck me as the type of person who reads suggestions and weighs the pros and cons but who usually does something that only resembles what was suggested. He's certainly bright enough to have come up with that figure on his own, and I think that's exactly what happened.
Did cryptohunter and his posse really expect to immediately take over DT? That sounds like extremely delusional thinking, and if you need a reference for a history of that, just take a quick glance at his post history, which I won't bother to link to since I'm writing this on my phone.
|
|
|
you don't need to worry too much about it since it doesn't affect your default score.
I would agree with you in so far as Lucius is currently not on DT, but with all the changes being made and all the new additions, you never know if he's going to be on DT at some point in the future. And I agree that it's not appropriate feedback, even if it's untrusted. Everyone should be handing out feedbacks with basically the same idea of what does and doesn't warrant a neg. Theymos pretty much established that leaving negs for shitposting isn't appropriate, and adding a ridiculous bitcoin amount to it only makes it worse--that could easily get a DT member booted if he/she did that. Hopefully Lucius will drop in and comment, and even better would be if he at least changed it to a neutral and left the risked amount blank.

Based on when that article was written on 2/22, bitcoin dropping to $3700 doesn't exactly qualify as a "plunge". Maybe if it fell to $2500 or something, that term would be valid but not when bitcoin was basically at that price less than a week previously. I think CCN is just using words thay have stronger meaning than what's justified, and that's pretty typical of any media outlet--and that's why I can't stand reading or watching the news, not even news about crypto.
And here we are a week later, and this weak-ass prediction that anyone could have guessed has come true. Big deal. What we're seeing is just normal market fluctuations, and they're not even really severe enough to warrant attention. Bitcoin has made much wilder swings in the past.

<snip>
Yep, all of that has happened in the past, along with some mistakes I've seen where members have entered someone else's btc or eth address when applying to a campaign. This is why I generally don't tag many accounts anymore when it looks like two or more are linked. I've had to remove quite a few negs because of this, and I'm not comfortable with that level of inaccuracy. On the other hand, I do think often accounts can be linked by these sorts of transactions, but it's very difficult to tell the difference. We all know damn well that bounty abuse happens and that a lot of bounty hunters think no one is paying attention and that they won't get caught trying to cheat.

Pretty neat little piece of history, who knew Bernie was an OG shitcoin shiller ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) He didn't have anything to do with crypto as far as I'm aware. I don't know what OP is talking about. This is kind of a neat thing--I've always loved stock certificates for some reason, though this one is kind of bland as far as design goes. The only thing I would worry about here is authenticity. It's damn hard to know what you've got here is genuine. Maybe that's just me, but it seems like everything can be faked these days, especially signatures. Edit: thanks for that link, OP.

So many pots... so many kettles... not nearly enough popcorn! ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) My thoughts exactly, and I miss the peace and quiet we've had for the past couple of weeks. And I also think it's been pointed out that there already is a voting mechanism in place--the problem is that it doesn't please everyone. But Theymos would be insane to try to make everybody happy when that can't be done. He made the voting/DT as fair and as beneficial to the forum as he could, so the naysayers need to just suck it up or try to earn as many merits as they can. The constant bitching isn't doing much of anything except making scunter et al look like buffoons, but they don't see that. If the community at large really felt strongly in their favor, they'd have no problem getting those merits, but that hasn't happened. That should tell you something.

Sound sentiment, JC. Unfortunately I highly doubt I'll be in much of a position to help on this forum outside of anything I can do as a merit source or DT member, and those two things are not set in stone anyway. More likely is that I'll be coming to the community for help related to either basic computer issues or with bitcoin problems.
It would help if people here actually knew each other as people and not just as an avatar writing posts, but given the anonymous nature of bitcoin and bitcoiners' need for the same, I can't imagine that happening on a large scale. Plus we're all over the globe, and that makes real-life meetups difficult. I do like the idea of discord chatting, which I've never done, but that's still not the same thing as meeting someone for drinks or coffee or whatever.
JC, did you find that lady's keys or what? Lots of great metsl detecting sites around where I live if you feel like taking a little plane trip. Lol
Edit: whoops, you said you couldn't help that woman. That's what I get for skimming.

I'm not completely against making new ranks, because I think it would be good to have ranks higher than Legendary, but I'm turned off by the military titles suggested in the OP. That's not a political thing, either--those ranks suggested just sound cheesy to me.
If I'm not mistaken, there have been at least a few threads where similar ideas were brought up, and I thought I recalled hearing Theymos dismiss them because he's not keen on creating any new ranks. If he doesn't want to make any rank(s) higher than Legendary, threads like this are a waste of time. It would be a very good thing if he chimed in here to give some guidance on the matter.

|
Nice, I didn't think that would be the end result for some reason, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I don't know what the person behind those accounts was thinking. For some reason I doubt they're ignorant of the merit hurdle for ranking up accounts, so I'm inclined to believe they were just bot-testing, as has been suggested. Bitcointalk seems to be a magnet for these idiots, and I've never seen that kind of thing even on other forums with less moderation. It's a damn good thing this troll made all the usernames with the same basic pattern, else the accounts might have been easily mistaken for real noobie shitposter ones--and there are already too many of those. Good job, OP.

We had a very long lull there without many bitcoin-paying signature campaigns, and now this one pops up with apparently no quality control, and BAM....we're back to the days of Yobit and Secondstrade. Crazy how one campaign can lead to so much forum pollution, but there you have it.
We talked about having some sort of minimum standards for campaign managers, but I think we got lulled into thinking we actually started to improve without any restrictions on campaigns--sadly I don't think that's the case. Imagine if there were multiple campaigns like this running simultaneously. You know damn well every spammer in the world would have their whole families engaged in writing shitposts. Just like the bad old days (which weren't even that long ago).

Why was the thread closed before it was explained what really happened?
My guess is they reached an agreement that benefited both player and the book. We will never know for sure what really happened and nobody cares. I doubt the player received the full amount, and moral of the story is staying away from cloudbet if you're a winning punter. This is just... astounding. Read the literal two preceding posts, man. The OP got his coins back. Yup, and OP of this thread ought to lock it, because it's just inviting more of the same non-readers to come here and squeeze out more turdposts about a problem that's been resolved. I'm actually very surprised that guy got all those coins back. That was not the ending I expected, but it's a pleasant surprise.

I'm not a huge trader of crypto by any means, but I've been in the exact same position--and this sums up why trading is such a bitch, i.e. the market does what it wants to do, not what you want it to do.
If you're just playing around with funds you don't mind losing if it came to that, I'd say just be patient and try to learn from the experience. That's what you should always be doing, IMO, but I know thay many traders gamble the rent money and don't learn a damn thing in the end. And sometimes it just takes time for the market goes up, and I think if you're only looking for a 1% gain, you'll probably have the trade executed eventually. Good luck.

I am saying there should be a warning that propaganda and disinformation posted by professionals may be posted.
Then that would be just as useless as any warning on any forum that tells you people are going to lie or otherwise say crazy things. That should be understood by anyone who's used the internet for more than a month--and I don't think the politics section here draws its viewership from toddlers. Just give it a rest.

Good, I was wondering what the mods' decision was going to be on that issue, and I also think there was enough evidence presented for me to agree that these are a bunch of alts.
OP, hate to tell you this but no one gives a shit about your "team" and you should just lock this thread and move on. Not only does this forum not do introduction threads, but it's highly unlikely that anyone is going to believe you anyway.
