Ok, here's the opened Bitbill (click for full size):

The plastic lamination is pretty thick, not just a thin film. Underneath that is the private key barcode with the hologram sticker stuck to it. Peeling off the hologram left half of it on the barcode which required some rubbing alcohol to remove.

7522  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Introducing BitCoinFeedback.com! on: May 24, 2011, 08:06:57 PM
Shouldn't 0 be gray or black? I don't see why is it red, as it is neither good or bad.
(1) 0% means 1 negative feedback was received.  This should be red.
(0) 0% means 0 feedback was received.  I have changed this to gray.

Not sure if you meant just the (0) ones or not, but thought I should clarify just in case.  Thanks for the suggestion!
7523  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Spreadsheet: Invest in BTC or mining hardware? on: May 24, 2011, 06:42:47 PM
Your spreadsheet is very depressing.  It's so easy to forget how fast an exponential growth moves, I guess that's how we got a debt based currency.  In 6 months my 6 Giga hashes will get me 0.08 bitcoins per day!?

What makes no sense is bitcoins need to be $1000 in 6 months for me to continue mining.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...  Sad

I would advise people against investing in new mining hardware at this point.  It is still very profitable TODAY, but with the exponential growth not expected to decline any time soon, mining is going to have slim margins, at best, in the not-so-distant future.

That's a 130 BTC bounty then!

freeborn - 30 BTC
gusti - 100 BTC__
TOTAL - 130 BTC
7525  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitcoinCashout.com - Discussion on: May 24, 2011, 06:39:20 PM
Haha, ok.  I figured as much, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
7526  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Introducing BitCoinFeedback.com! on: May 24, 2011, 06:38:42 PM
Changed the sort of the Browse list to sort by number of feedback received.  The list was getting long, and I wanted people to more easily see the feedback that was being left.

Changed the color of in-content links from green to blue.

Added coloring of the feedback... green = mostly positive, yellow/brown = some positive, some negative, red = mostly negative.

Glad that you had a better experience than I did with it!  It was just the worst decision I ever made to go with them for my primary internet.

And good to hear that it doesn't involve a contract... that helps.
7528  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Bitcion using a FREE Windows OS! on: May 24, 2011, 05:48:58 PM
Like I said Basiley, I'm not a fan of linux.

I'll just use the extra Vista Business OEM license I have.
7529  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Domain Bitcoin.ws 3000 USD on: May 24, 2011, 05:44:56 PM
How much traffic does the domain receive? Why wouldn't you just let the domain expire if you are not interested in developing the site?
Why would he when he can sell it to someone else?

I don't normally put a stick in the mud for people selling stuff, and I am sorry for having to do so, but Clear... man... stay AWAY!

They lock you in to a 1 or 2 year contract.
They have a contract auto-renew policy, so you're stuck with them for another 1 or 2 years if you don't cancel in the right manner.
They will not release you from said contract unless you call them between 30 and 60 days of contract end that you do not wish to auto-renew.
Even if you move to an area that does not have Clear service, you cannot cancel your contract.
They used to be named Clearwire.  I guess they had to rename because Clearwire got such a bad reputation.  And it's hard to google and find relevant items for "clear sucks" vs "clearwire sucks".
When I had the service, I was getting 100kbps, if I was lucky, during peak usage times.  The only time I would actually see advertised speeds (1.5mbps) was 3 or 4 AM in the morning.
Pings were also atrocious.  400-500ms was the norm, and 1000+ would happen regularly.  Often, I would have to try 5 or 10 times to even be able to load websites.
I finally had to contact the BBB before they would allow me out of their contract without paying the ridiculous ETF.

STAY AWAY FROM CLEAR.

Littleshop, I wish you the best of success in selling other items in your store.  I just felt I had to warn people about the abomination of internet service that is called Clear.
7531  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Bitcion using a FREE Windows OS! on: May 24, 2011, 05:29:40 PM
Thanks, that makes sense!

Now I wasn't able to get graphics drivers working in my version of Server 2008... but if you say you have a working setup, maybe I'll give it a try on the rig I am putting together tonight.

Lol, I LOVE the happy lady at the computer picture on the front page.  I'm not sure if that is purposefully sarcastic and a jab at all of those tech companies that have similar images on their homepages, but it should be.  Tongue

Call me interested though, because I'm not a big linux fan.

Can you tell me more about Hyper-V?  Why is it free?  What Windows edition is it based on?  And it says "You can install a virtual copy of Windows onto the Hyper-V server".  Does that mean that Hyper-V is not a windows installation, it is just a platform for installing Windows on?

Huh
7533  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Video Card Price vs Performance vs Watts Excel Doc on: May 24, 2011, 05:16:58 PM
I created a very similar spreadsheet.

I also created a second sheet with system build costs included ($125/card additional cost), and the 5850 still won out, though the 5870 was much closer than with just the cost of the cards included.  This was when the 5850 was at $140 though.
7534  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitcoinCashout.com - Discussion on: May 24, 2011, 04:55:39 PM
Mmmmm, how much did you sell it for?
7535  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: Are you still buying mining equipment? on: May 24, 2011, 04:54:00 PM
Too many assumptions, few facts. If you believe that buying btc directly is the best thing to do, pls sell me at $1.32, which is the actual cost for me to mine each one.   Grin

This happens in every single "should I buy mining hardware" thread:

The question starts as: Is it profitable to buy mining hardware now and pay it off over the next few months?
And the want-to-believe crowd jumps and and says: The hardware I started mining with months ago [i.e. when difficulty was much lower] is still profitable to operate.

These are two entirely different questions.

Difficulty is set to go up by 63%+ at the next jump. Bigger than the last jump, and bigger again than the jump before. Around each jump, the mining optimists come in and declare that difficulty is going to stabilize or even fall soon. And it doesn't.

And SgtSpike: Read my post more carefully. I said I don't believe that the exchange rate will continue to go up. I just pointed out that if you believe mining will be profitable in the long term then you must also believe exchange rates will continue to go up in the long term. If you believe that, then mining isn't your best option.
I missed that.  In that case, I completely agree.  When I first started mining three weeks ago, it was more profitable to mine instead of invest directly in bitcoins, when looking at the longer-term picture and assuming no more huge jumps in BTC price.  This was because of the EXTREMELY low difficulty level compared to the current price.  Now, difficulty is still working on catching up, and it has already caught up to the point of investing being more profitable than mining, except at 0% or negative BTC valuation changes.  It will only take a few more difficulty increases like this upcoming one before investing at 0% valuation change is more profitable than buying mining equipment...
7536  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: Are you still buying mining equipment? on: May 24, 2011, 07:44:46 AM
This is the way I am trying to answer this question for myself:

Todays network hash rate is estimated at about 3.5 Thashs/s.  So if I build a hot 3.5 Ghashs/s system that would be exacly 0.1% of the network.  Since the entire system produces about $50,000 per day at the current price of $7 per BTC my share should average out to about $50 per day.

Assuming that the average rate of growth in the value of the BTC matches the average rate of growth of the network then I will continue to average about $50 per day until 2013.

$50 per day is about $18,000 per year.  Can I build a 3.5 Ghash/s system for less than $18,000?  Yes.  If the above assumption holds is it worth doing?  Yes.  Will the above growth rate assumption hold.  That is the real question here.
Bitcoin value has remained stagnate for the past 11 days, while difficulty has almost doubled in the same time period.  Wishful thinking doesn't make it happen.

There has to be a reason for a rally - more investors come in looking for bitcoins, so they infuse cash into the market.  There doesn't have to be a reason for difficulty to increase - it just happens, whether there is growth in the value of BTC or not.  The reason for this is because it is still profitable to mine, even with the lower value/generation ratio.  People will continue purchasing mining equipment until the revenue is very close to the expense of electricity.  Prepare to make $2-$3/day with that same 3.5ghps in the not-so-distant future.

Sorry, I should have specified.  I am all for a smaller government, and do think the current government system is bloated and, well, crappy.  I just thought that post was a particular example of awesome, considering the subject matter.

Don't give Sawzall any credit for it though, it's an old copy/paste.
Awww, that just took away 98% of the awesome factor.

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy.

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. Then, I brushed my teeth with that water, filtered to standards set by the EPA and my state.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads built by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank and printed by the Federal Bureau of Engraving and Printing. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

I park my car on the street, paved and maintained by the Department of Transportation, and put quarters issued by the United States Mint into the parking meter.

Then, after spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, I drive back to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and the fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

I then log onto the Internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and post on the Bitcoin forums about how the Federal Reserve Bank is going to destroy us all because the government can't do anything right.
Lol, win.  Cheesy
