7541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Massadoption - Is it ready? on: December 24, 2020, 12:16:08 PM
I’d say it’s simply not ready yet.

In terms of mempool congestion, we already have great lightning wallets such as Phoenix and Breez(that people refuse to try). We just need exchanges and other services to start accepting LN payments.

As for the current UX of Bitcoin in general, yea it’s quite tough. The technologically literate people are obviously going to adopt pretty quickly, while the less technologically literate people would get it significantly longer(with hopefully some techie friends teaching them), while the older folks, well, probably stick with Grayscale’s BTC trust or CashApp?

With that said, I’d like to take the optimistic approach and look into the future; hopefully with Bitcoin far easier to use and secure compared to today. Rome wasn’t built in a day, they say.
7542  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Extension that Gives Bitcoin on: December 24, 2020, 12:07:59 PM
Google, Facebook, and many big companies collect our data without paying us a penny. So it is reasonable to exchange our data for some free sats. At least when we support their business, they support us back by sending remittances. Those big fours are like dictators in this field where they don't care much about what the customers are thinking

it will be a big problem if they have your private data such as a password or bank number, etc. But as you say, they are legitimate enough for us to download and you.

..Unless you’re like me and a lot of privacy-conscious people here that refuse to use these data collecting services 🤷‍♂️.

But then again, we’re not forcing anyone to not use their service because I completely understand if someone wants to. It’s merely just a heads up for people to know what they’re exchanging for the free sats.
7543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Christmas 🌲 Bear 🐻 Already Started Munching! on: December 24, 2020, 06:31:32 AM
Bitcoin dropped in price by only like $1000 and suddenly we're already seeing bear posts. Freakin LOL. As for all those altcoins though? Nah man, let them burn to the ground (especially that Ripple fidget spinner-coin. git rekt).
7544  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Babagsak Pa Kaya? on: December 24, 2020, 05:18:58 AM

Though wag parin natin irurule-out ang regulatory risk. Isang malalang batas lang sa U.S. concerning Bitcoin at cryptocurrencies, e pwede talagang bumaba sa $3k levels. Alam naman natin kung gaano ka easily affected ang mga crypto investors pagdating sa bad news.
7545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin end the dollar’s reign? on: December 24, 2020, 03:50:01 AM
From what Zimbabwe and Venezuela taught us, a currency in order to succeed and rule surpreme, it needs to have a limited supply. The only problem with Bitcoin is it cannot operate with no internet that's the only blocking before it can be mass adopted by governments. In terms of innovation it has more security and faster transaction then any major payment processor.

Not necessarily. I'm definitely not saying that the U.S. Dollar will reign forever, but the Zimbabwean Dollar and the Venezuelan Bolívar didn't necessarily implode due to not having a limited supply, but because their government/central bank intentionally or unintentionally fucked up their currency through hyperinflation.

Also, you can use Bitcoin without internet. Though probably not the best solution currently, it's still an alternative: https://blockstream.com/satellite/
7546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin runs off the fumes of fiat. on: December 24, 2020, 03:43:52 AM
Bitcoin does not fix this. A coin everyone mints at the same rate will.

You do realize that bitcoin is being minted at the same rate(BTC6.25 every block/BTC900 per day) that only changes every 4 years through a halving event, right?

And of course everything is still "based" in fiat; simply because Bitcoin hasn't reached peak adoption yet. Rome wasn't built in a day.
7547  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Babagsak Pa Kaya? on: December 24, 2020, 03:07:17 AM
Ang pagcrash ng presyo ng bitcoin ay always possible. Though as lalo pang tumaas ang presyo, bumababa rin ung likeliness na bumaba sa ganyang levels as tumataas rin ung price support(but again, still not impossible).

7548  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Extension that Gives Bitcoin on: December 24, 2020, 03:04:29 AM
It's a pretty reputable service and you can trust that it's legitimate. That's if, if you're fine with what you're giving them in return. They have to make money one way or another, right? As they're a business.

I don't have any sources to back this up, but it's probably safe to assume that they're giving discounts in exchange for your data(feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). If you're fine with that, then use it to receive some sats after every purchase. If not, then don't.
7549  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Investment Platform on: December 24, 2020, 03:00:51 AM
Only use exchanges for their sole purpose: BUYING or SELLING cryptocurrencies; NOT holding.

For holding coins, use non-custodial wallets. Learn more about them here: https://notyourkeys.org/
7550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICOs and Altcoins investment strategy advice for a newbie on: December 24, 2020, 02:59:31 AM
1. In my opinion, ICOs are more of short-mid term trades than "investments". You've got to be extremely lucky to invest in an ICO that actually ends up being a tangible working project.

2. I would only recommend using trading bots(that you've built yourself) only if you actually got your trading skills solidified.

3. Outside holding bitcoin and Bitcointalk signature campaigns, I mostly suggest earning money outside the Cryptocurrency space.
7551  Other / Meta / Re: Why it's easier to hack BTT users account on: December 23, 2020, 02:37:51 PM
It's been 3 years, so I really can't remember if Bitcointalk had a confirmation email or not. As an alternative to emails though, we use the bitcoin address staking method instead, which is also quite effective: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

But anyway, the chances of your account getting hacked is really really slim as long as you follow basic security practices. Using long and complex passwords, not reusing passwords, and such.
7552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin capable to recover from Financial Crisis? on: December 23, 2020, 02:33:18 PM
Only time will tell. But in the short-mid term, in my opinion bitcoin wouldn't do that well either. While institutional investors are slowly pouring in, safe to assume that a huge majority are still retail investors; and mostly, we all know that the majority aren't knowledgeable with investing hence could potentially be easily panicked through FUD and price drops.
7553  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the purpose of your post ? on: December 23, 2020, 06:02:03 AM
There's no doubt that there are a lot of people that post here solely to be paid. And while it sucks as the lack of quality on their posts is mostly very obvious, I mostly can't blame them either as a lot of them live in poor countries.

As for me personally, I post because I'm heavily interested in Bitcoin, and with investing in general. Do I like getting paid? Hell yea I do, I really won't lie about that. But if I was to not get paid for posting, while I'd still post and read here daily, I would obviously be posting a lot less because I would have to allocate more time to doing stuff that could earn me income. Because let's be honest here, who doesn't need money?

With that said, Bitcointalk and ChipMixer has been a total godsend for me. Not only I get to spend time doing what I love(talking about Bitcoin and investing), I also get paid for it!
7554  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recommend a useful digital currency tool on: December 23, 2020, 04:04:50 AM
So you expect us to believe somehow, you managed to find a platform [by accident] on its first few days after its creation, prior to recommending it here? Yeah, right!
- It's interesting how you "never logged back in" after creating this topic.

This is what really puzzles me. What’s with creating a nice good looking topic on the Services Announcements section that stops people from advertising their website/service that way? If anything, it’s FAR more effective than doing it this way.
7555  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin gave a 230% returns in 2020: will the rally continue? on: December 23, 2020, 03:59:26 AM
The answer to literally anything concerning price regardless if long term or short term: No. One. Knows. All we have an idea of is the total supply and the amount being mined, but we can’t predict demand.
7556  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cyber Criminals dumped Ledger's hack database on: December 23, 2020, 03:56:25 AM
I fully understand that Ledger was most attractive to scammers as they are market leaders, but still they should focus more on the safety, and maybe not keep customer database if it's not required by some law. Why not just keeping email and that's it? Considering what they are selling, they should be  fully aware of the repercussions if something goes wrong, like it happened now.
It sure is required by law for them to store user’s data for some time. Not only by law, but also for stuff like customer service and stuff.

Well this is not going to happen for Trezor wallet exactly like that because SatoshiLabs have much better policy regarding keeping all customer data information and I think they delete everything after some time and you can ask them to delete everything at any time.
I don't support Trezor in any way, just saying the facts and Trezor have their own problems also.
They still store people’s data for 3 months. That fact doesn’t make them invulnerable to breaches, it’s just that the potential repercussions of a breach could mostly be less drastic, but it would still end up being a disaster.

If I read their statement in the email correctly, the data was leaked due to a fault in their e-commerce API.
Let's not imply, therefore, that this can happen to anyone. This is nothing but a Ledger's negligence.
..and that’s just one of many ways on how a database can be breached. It’s no doubt Ledger’s fault, but such breaches can definitely happen to anyone; yes, even to the tech giants.

Yes, even our beloved home, Bitcointalk got hacked sometime in the past.
7557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hope people that give out personal address safe? Ledger wallet users' attacks on: December 22, 2020, 04:06:02 PM
I don't know about others but to me, this is way too much information for a third party site. You don't give off all this much private details just to a third party site just to ensure to protect your privacy. Compliance with these needed information had very much made your data go public already. You don't know the person at the other end and in cases as these. In issues of privacy data, the less known to the third party, the more safe you are.

Ledger really need to look into there terms of service because it's really compromising a lot. Having a users private details like home address could lead to blackmailing and other crimes especially with the fact that, a user's wallet address could be scanned to know its content. It's not a fair way to operate.

You do realize that they really need to have your personal information(including your home address) for them to be able to ship out the purchased products to you, right?
7558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be Excited about the rise, be wary about the scams, and loss on: December 22, 2020, 02:19:03 PM
the scams are everywhere its like walking on a minefield

It will only seem to be like a minefield if you go in blind. But if you enter the field with you knowing about the scams and with you not being easily deceived by their tricks, then it's like going in the minefield with God Mode on.
7559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cash out or HODL - Bitcoin? on: December 22, 2020, 02:13:21 PM
Now bitcoin price is high in this year so i tell you can sell btc now. After this year it price can be decrease then you Buy btc and hold for Increase.

Yo. You seem to have the skills to be able to look and predict the future. Do you mind sharing the Amazon link of the magic crystal ball you've bought? I'm going to need one of those for my trades.

7560  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cyber Criminals dumped Ledger's hack database on: December 22, 2020, 02:05:14 PM
Joke aside, what to say about all this that haven't been said before.. It is a shame that they are still market leaders and I am seriously considering getting something else, simply out of principle.

It really sucks that this happened to Ledger out of all companies knowing that they're in the security niche, but people should really keep mind of the quote by Michael Harris: "There are only two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those that will be.".

Databases get breached all the time. It's just inevitable that it will also happen to Trezor and other crypto companies someday, it's just a matter of when; or if said companies survive long enough.
