Why mtgox has a trading lag? Do they do the trading work in php with a celeron?
<neofutur> 02:08 <@MagicalTux> Blitzboom: we're working on some changes that will improve this a lot <neofutur> 02:08 < Blitzboom> ETA? <neofutur> 02:08 <@MagicalTux> we're pushing this urgently (but still after testing), so whithin next 24 hours <neofutur> probably this update is being pushed to prod <neofutur> and it will be back within hours I'm guessing a lot of the volatily is caused by the lag. If people hurriedly put in emotional-based orders and these execute minutes later, irrational movement all over the place is preprogrammed. If this is correct, there might be calmer times ahead after the update. Still interesting, but calmer.

Sold at 49, bought at 35 ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Love bubbles how did you know to do that?? It's the same as asking gamblers exiting a casino about whether they won. Those that did will proclaim loudly how much money they made. Those that lost (the majority of punters) remain silent. He didn't know any more than a roulette player knows the ball will land on black next. This. But I don't think we'll really know where the market is at for another 12 hours yet. Things are bouncing all over. I do like how the drop to mid-thirties now qualifies as the bottom of the "crash" though. Jep, the all time high is now support.

What's gonna happen when people in Europe wake up? Will they panic sell or buy for cheap? What do you think... Btw. I wrote to MtGox about the big lags - answer: top management is working on it... ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Just woke up in Europe. Not selling myself, only a little on overvalued local markets.

Did anyone with buy orders of 36-45 on here actually get them filled during that WTF moment? Curious about what actually happened there.
I had orders about 38 and they got filled. I had very old orders laying around everywhere. They all got filled, unfortunately the lower ones (30 to 35) had been invalid due to lack of USD ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Just woke up. I fell much better today after this healthy correction. Yesterday made me feel uneasy.

![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FYlCvxpW.jpg&t=663&c=LgnZvCmBqifIAw) so close to the 100k Ben Bernanke would be SHOCKED to see this ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) . btw: I started using bitfinex. Once I got to know most of the stuff I feel quite comfortable. However I'm of the opinion the lending page needs work. Here is a shot for reference: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F0Ai8VKUl.png&t=663&c=VuZUBBTslC2kNg) I managed to accidentally lend $250 for a yearly interest of 2%. Why? The form is extremely confusing. Specifically I have the following issues using the thing: - After doing anything (post new offer, switch auto-lend on/off, the lending interest rate text-field re-fills with the value "2"... why? It should stay where it is or be empty (resulting in error when submitting)
- When hitting deactivate auto-lend, nothing seems to happen (at least the button doesn't changed to "activate autolend" and doesn't turn green. A reload of the page reveals that auto-lending has been switched off (button green and switched ot "activate autolend".
- There are 2 text-fields for interest rates (one for lending and one for borrowing), but only one for the amount. why? either make two separate forms for borrowing/lending or use only one field for the interest rate, too (that's how I managed to lend for 2%: I entered 250% into the borrowing rate input box, assuming it would also (like the amount entry field) be used for lending). I didn't even notice the lending rate input field (to the RIGHT of the button, the workflow in this form goes zig-zag-paddy-whack)
- more stuff, but this was the most important
thanks for a great platform... I hope your code and security is better than your gui design ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Also: please recall my argument that there are possible countermeasures against this which could be employed once the attack commences. This makes the attack impractical (it will fail) and therefore noone will attempt it. Even without actually implementing the countermeasures beforehand, merely the possibility of implementing them on demand is sufficient to avoid this attack.
can u elaborate on what countermeasures can be taken? what happened to the Mystery Miner? Wow, this was a while ago... I cant even remember the thread in which the countermeasures (I guess we're talking about a "0-tx-block" attack) have been discussed. One idea (the one that stuck in my memory until now) was to reject blocks that contain substantially less transactions than are currently in the set of transaction awaiting a block from the point of view of each node/miner. This would avoid falsely rejecting blocks in cases where a block is found shortly after another one and so there are no (or a low number of) transactions or in cases where there are no or not many transaction for other reasons.

Will reaching 50$ have some kind of special impact in speculators decisions? In other words, are the chances of a bubble bursting when we break a round number (such as 50, or 100) higher than reaching any other price?
$50 is a large psychological barrier. Lots of people are willing to take profits here. Just look at the depth chart. True, but once a psychological barrier is broken, buying usually intensifies (because of the holdback). Sorta like when making love... well, that's a different story.

Is someone making big buys in Europe? It seems like these spikes are happening overnight for us in the U.S.
No, Asia. When I get up in Europe, usually a big increase has happened over night. It continues (albeit slower) during the Euro-day and when the US people wake up you don't know what'll happen ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

The sad thing is that his followers (this seems to me like a bit of a cult) actually thank him for warning him of this bitcoin ponzi-scam.
I really think the guy has some issues... so close-minded.

It's funny how many people that were much more wealthy then I am to invest in Bitcoin and not a single one of them did.
A lot of them I told back when coins were going for about 4.50$ each.
Why do my friends never listen to me?
I know, right? room mate was talking about it in december, back when the price was around 11-12$... David Morgan repeatedly says something along the lines of: "Many people never buy at the bottom or when the price is low, they will make the decision and then hesitate and stand on the sidelines until the price goes up a lot. Only then they buy". (not exact quote).

Something is very wrong with MtGox, it's a bit much when you can't even add a sell order at the current price.
They should do some serious upgrading of their equipment or risk another exchange with higher capacity replacing them.
That's it. I'm done with Gox. Where should I go? Between forcing me into dealing with another entity (CoinLab) and now having their Commodore 64 overloaded and unresponsive, I'm done. I've got a market sell order for 1 coin and another coin ASK at 42.00. Neither will execute, and I don't even see my 42 ASK on the order book. That's horse shit. I'll move my coins to a different exchange by tomorrow - Just have to figure out where. Enigma maybe bitfinex? you can also move your USD (if you have any) over using mtgox-code. They have a "local" market and mtgox market somehow combined. Maybe not a bad idea, I'm not sure.

I don't think buying right now is a good idea. I just can't see this high price being sustainable.
I sense wishful thinking! The painful outlook of having bought a car with twice as many coins as it would cost now. I don't remember your numbers and I know it's not your kind of car, but couldn't you get that Porsche Cayman for the same amount of coins as your Prius has cost you a couple of weeks ago? I know I'm being kind of mean here, but I'm sure you can take it the right way and I can't resist the bull talk today ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Thailand's not so bad ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I hear there are job opportunities all over the world for native speakers to teach English... nah. After the american empire has fallen, noone wants to learn english anymore. Mandarin and spanish teachers are going to be in demand.
