Just throwing this out. Planning a multi level case to be used in a 4-post 19" server rack.

The first level will be the accessory section with stackable Gridseed levels. Haven't decided on 20 or 24 per Gridseed level.
762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: UnicornHasher Official GridSeed Purchase and Setup Guide on: March 05, 2014, 11:38:03 PM

Are the dimensions the same from the fan side? At work right now so I can't measure myself but designing a case and need to know the dimensions for the hole they will drop into (fan side down).

mm would be great.
Thanks Smiley

Anyone here has their gridseed 5 chip device running on a Pi?

I compiled and ran but I never get an accepted share. Here is what I get

Any help?

Ps. I'm not using a hub. I got the device connected directly to the Pi.

How long did you let it run for?

Have you tried a different pool or coin?

I ran it for about 20 mins now, still nothing. I got 7 other devices mining on my Windows PC to the same pool and they work just fine.

USE a powered HUB and see if it works.

Or unplug the power cord and leave the device plugged into the Pi.  See if the green and red lights blink.   Then go back to #1....

I suspect that it will not work being plugged directly into the Pi. I can confirm that connecting a single unit directly into the wiibox controller does not work even though it lights up the LEDs with the power unplugged from the 5 chip Gridseed.

Ok, testing my first miner.

Still waiting on delivery of some USB hubs and power supplies so I thought I would just hook one up to my computer and run it overnight.

You can see how it's doing at: http://xpool.net:8860/static/miners.html
It's currently the only miner on that node.

Setting:
minerd.exe --freq=600 --gc3355=COM4 --url=stratum+tcp://xpool.net:8860 --userpass=7Rcgymoe8TUoWkyMnVsPn9eHMaAtx677s3:x

I will try different freq's tomorrow. It's currently at ~235-260+ KH/s

Here are my power usage notes.
12v 30a 360w led switching power supply all by itself:    0.16 - 0.17 amps        8.3 - 8.8 watts
One Gridseed just plugged into the PS & USB port:                0.25 amps      13.7 - 13.9 watts
Scrypt mining:                                            0.28 - 0.29 amps      15.5 - 16.0 watts

Early results seem to indicate they work well with P2Pool.

I too will be looking to initially power about 20 Gridseed miners, 2 controllers and 2 USB hubs. Scrypt only with some type of safety against an accidental dual mode setup would be ideal.

Would like to use a Corsair AX series modular power supply with the cables plugged directly into the power supply.

I think 10 units per PCIe cable should be considered. I believe this would allow me to run 80 Gridseed miners off an AX1200 using less than 800W for the miners?
767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Custom Case Build on: March 04, 2014, 07:45:25 AM
Looks like Spotswood has made a version of his 80/20 cases similar to my design.

If I need another GPU case this is a nice option to have. Hope this thread helped in some way  Roll Eyes

Good job!

I would probably recommend it be made it a bit longer though. I made the mistake of making it too short as well.

Interesting idea miaviator but much too messy for me.

I just noticed that Spotswood is building some cases out of 80/20 here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=476224

He does not seem to offer sizes that fit in a server rack yet. If he did I would consider buying one of his but I feel it will look nicer using acrylic sheets and metal rods.
769  Bitcoin / Hardware / My Custom Gridseed Case Build on: March 04, 2014, 02:11:18 AM
So enough time has past that I have forgotten how much effort it was to make my first custom case  Roll Eyes

Using this forum post as my scratchpad for ideas, dimensions, etc.

First design idea (abandoned):
Quote
This time I will be making a case (most likely) out of acrylic sheets and metal rods to house Gridseed miners.
Dimensions will be similar to my first case as it will need to be mounted in a server rack.

Preliminary Dimensions
Length                       600mm
Width                        448mm
Height - Utility Shelf    133.35mm (5.25") 3U
       - Rod size            127mm (133.35 - 3.175 - 3.175 = 127)
Height - Miner Shelf        88.9mm (3.5") 2U
       - Rod size         85.725mm (88.9 - 3.175 = 85.725)
Holes                         97mm
Acrylic thickness          3.175mm (1/8" or 0.125")

Miner weight  0.9375 lbs x 20 = 18.75 lbs

Note: May reduce the rods length in the Utility Shelf section so the case can be removed without binding on adjacent rack equipment:  - 0.787mm (- 0.031")

Here is my inspiration:

Bottom level will be for power supply, USB hubs and controllers.

May quickly move from the supplied power supplies to a Corsair AX1200 (or AX1200i as I don't think their making the AX1200 anymore). This will require more space for the bottom level. Watching this thread for the required cables: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74397.msg5492169#msg5492169

Top level will be for the Gridseed miners but unlike the picture I will have the fans blowing up. From here it can stack more levels depending on how much space the power supplies and accessories the bottom level can hold.

Looking at having a profession company cut the acrylic sheets.

Layout:

Red dots - location of the rods
Blue dot - main access hole for wires
Yellow dot - optional secondary access hole for wires (of course you can use any hole for miners or wires)

Picture of what I envision it looking like (wider with holes):

Second design idea (completed):

Using 80/20 instead of acrylic.

Here is my new inspiration:

Dimensions
Length                       600mm
Width                        448mm
Height - 3U Utility Shelf    133.35mm (5.25")
Height - 3U Miner Shelf(s)   133.35mm (5.25")

Miner weight  0.9375 lbs x 20 = 18.75 lbs

Note: 133.35mm (5.25") -  0.787mm (- 0.031") Reduced the length in the Utility Shelf section so the case can be removed without binding on adjacent rack equipment:  - 0.787mm (- 0.031")

I want to work on some coins with POW/POS - is it best to use your repo - or use the one developed for NVC?

Assuming Novacoin is POW/POS then yes...work off of that one. I have no experience with POW/POS coins and P2Pool.

  • raise mintxfee and minrelaytxfee back to defaults (0.0001)

Anyone know where (in the coin source) the default mins can be found? Searched but could not find it. Trying to see what would be good values for some altcoins.

Probably in  ~/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf

Assuming I understood what you were asking.   :-)

Smiley where in the coin source (ex: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/tree/master/src). Different coins prob. have different default minimums.
I think this is what you are looking for around line 53-55:

main.cpp:
/** Fees smaller than this (in satoshi) are considered zero fee (for transaction creation) */
int64_t CTransaction::nMinTxFee = 10000;  // Override with -mintxfee
/** Fees smaller than this (in satoshi) are considered zero fee (for relaying) */
int64_t CTransaction::nMinRelayTxFee = 1000;

Thanks! That's it...actually now seeing it I remember where it was...man im loosing it lately...too much stuff going on..lack of sleep Embarrassed
At least now it's documented Smiley

I'm in for the 10 pack from Zoomhash. Plan to drive over and pick them up tomorrow (Friday) if I can get the deal completed. Tried to get it done today but they must be swamped. Will post pictures after I get them home and working...maybe even a video. Will get another 10 next week if everything works out.

Offered to directly transfer BTC in person Smiley

I am considering increasing the minimum payout amount on the Digitalcoin P2Pools to 0.1 DGC.

This would mainly affect smaller miners. Instead of a bunch of small payouts they would get fewer larger ones. Currently set to 0.00000001 DGC it pays out every block no matter how small their share is. The problem is that smaller miners will accumulate a bunch of small payouts and be charged higher transaction fee's when they try to use them.

Thoughts?

I just immediately reconnect when that happens. Have not had to use + anything but then again I have 5 Mh/s so it may be adjusting higher faster for me so when I reconnect the pseudo diff is already primed to be higher.

The danger is like the guy who replied here

https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/issues/183

You probably recognize him from irc. Smiley If he falls over to a backup pool then much later back to his own node, it might do nothing but HWs all day until he can manually fix it because of the 0 diff issue.
Yes, that is a problem  Undecided
Perhaps using cgwatcher can help. Not sure (haven't looked) but it may have a setting to watch for # of HW errors and restart the miner. If not then maybe we can make a feature suggestion.

779  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 27, 2014, 06:24:51 PM
Part of the problem may be that python is an interpreted, not compiled language.

I have seen compiled versions of p2pool (at least for windows in the OP). Anyone have instructions on how to do so? I'm not so much interested in increasing the performance as making it easier for others to use without having to load dependencies.
780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Finding p2pool networks.py values for new altcoins on: February 26, 2014, 06:54:33 PM
When you first connect to a new node and there are no stats at all you will get served DIFF 0 work which will cause HWs in some types of miners. If you mine for a while with any + it will get some stats stored, then you can disconnect and reconnect without the + and you should be fine, with vardiff giving you pseudoshare targets above 0. I just put in a suggestion to the p2pool repo that the minimum work ever served should be 1 (for sha256) or 1/X where X is the scrypt adjustment to the difficulty figure for that coin (it's in bitcoin/networks.py).

I just immediately reconnect when that happens. Have not had to use + anything but then again I have 5 Mh/s so it may be adjusting higher faster for me so when I reconnect the pseudo diff is already primed to be higher.
