761  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-28 Will Canada Become 'The Silicon Valley Of Bitcoins?' on: January 29, 2014, 11:07:13 AM
The only thing I see there that I also wonder about, is, Who decided there will only ever be 21 million?  How much of a guarantee is that?

That's part of the protocol. To increase that amount you would need to increase the amount of coins that a new block creates as a reward.

Everyone running a full client (you too if you run f.e. Bitcoin-QT) checks new blocks. If they woudn't work by the current Protocoll your client would rejeckt it and don't transmit it to other nodes.

Therefore, to increase the supply you would have to create a new client, that would be incompatible to all current clients and therefore won't be Bitcoin anymore, but just another alt coin.

Understood?

Yes and no, LOL!

Like everything Bitcoin related. It will make sense the more i think about it.

Haha, the comments!

There is one, that sums up all misunderstandings about Bitcoin in one single Post. Amazing.

Quote
Bitcoin is just another fiat currency with no backing of any sort. Just like the plain old CDN$, its value depends on global demand and nothing else, no gold, no silver, no nothing. The idea that it is de-centralized is foolish. Every currency has its own single issuing authority. Who decided that there will only ever be 21 million bitcoins? Who creates the puzzles one must solve to mine the coins? If it was truly de-centralized I could just create my own bitcoins out of thin air and use them to buy whatever I need. Given its increasing popularity, unless more are created, its value will rise even farther to the point that even big ticket items will be very hard to buy because a single bitcoin will be unaffordable. Also, being digital-only and internet-based, it only takes one teenage hacker in Russia to blow down this whole house of cards.

Sounds like a guy my g/f works with.  Thinks he knows all about it, but is totally clueless and on the other end of the scale.

The only thing I see there that I also wonder about, is, Who decided there will only ever be 21 million?  How much of a guarantee is that?

n Leo Dominguez decided to sink his life savings — and a loan from his mother — into his bitcoin venture two years ago, his friends teased he was entering a Ponzi scheme. His father told him he was wasting his time and would lose all his money.

After the value of one bitcoin rose to $100 some five months ago, from $10 when he first invested, his long-time girlfriend Karen Williamson quit her insurance job to join him as a bitcoin entrepreneur.

“At that point, we knew were were on to something and it wasn’t just two years wasted,” Leo said.

I live in a suburb of Vancouver and so many people are buying/selling stuff for Bitcoin.  We had the first atm.  Housing developers are accepting them for down payment.  It's been all over the news lately, guy is selling his house for just over 1600 Bitcoins.  BTW, thats actually close to what the property is worth money wise. It's really starting to take off here.

I have a question regarding the transaction history page.

Is there anyway to sync it to my own time zone to see what time payments were paid out?

765  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this site for real? on: January 29, 2014, 09:27:42 AM
I'm gonna say it's fake.

Prices seem to good to be true and the phone number just rings.
766  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New miner trying to cut through the crap on: January 29, 2014, 08:31:29 AM
Hey all,

I've been mining LTC for a bit now, just for shits and to learn about cryptocurrency and mining, and now I seriously want to make an investment into BitCoin mining, add to my new portfolio.

Problem is, EVERYONE seems to confirm that EVERY company with ASIC or mining contracts out there is a scam. Is there anyone out there that is legit? I see plenty of talk about BFL, KNC, ASICMINER - and of course they are all some kind of internet Scamurai Ninjas. I'm just coming up from the GPU world and all the ASIC tomfoolery makes no sense. Anyone care to shed some light?

All mining hardware is grossly overpriced for what you will get in return. Even the used stuff is priced the same way.  People are obviously buying it though.  So I think the best thing is to hopefully find a great deal, act on it, mine with it for a while, then hope you can sell it down the road for a profit to someone willing to pay a stupid price for it.

As you can see there is a winning strategy you just need to be calm, play stress free and the winning will come
The only thing you need to know is when to STOP!
Take a break and continue the next day or never if you decided you won enough!

The only true winning strategy is to stop and not gamble.  Gambling is designed to keep you betting. You'll always lose in the end.

This is one of their addresses:15D2pY5KJkv5yBcZEakgARFmhwYQ76hhFM

I was able to find this by guessing.

-edit-  Looks like they keep moving those coins.

How do you know it's theirs though, it's not like a name is attached to it... or maybe there is.

I'm confused here.
769  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you see when you go to bed? on: January 29, 2014, 05:51:21 AM
usually my dog since apparently he thinks he has the right to use the pillow as well.
770  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are the burgers in McDonald getting smaller globally? on: January 29, 2014, 05:20:28 AM
Definitly smaller than they were a few years back.

What pisses me off the most is the size of Jr. Bacons at Wendys.   Angry

Not just the size but the quality is getting worse and worse.  It's a shame, I used to like the taste of horse meat.   Tongue

772  Other / Off-topic / Re: I wish I could rent a time machine. on: January 29, 2014, 05:05:48 AM
There are far better returns than going back and buying Bitcoin.

But yeah, if only time machines existed.  I'm hoping future me comes and gets me any day now.
773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: January 29, 2014, 04:33:39 AM
I really can't see it ever happening, but I hope it does, it'll give me a chance to buy a bunch of Bitcoins and likely a bunch of cheap mining equipment from people panicking.
774  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling empty water bottles -MOD PLEASE MOVE on: January 29, 2014, 04:21:57 AM
Try selling light bulbs.  Now that they are banned in the us you should get a decent markup.

They have banned a bunch of them in Canada as well.   Angry

Gotta hate the nanny state b.s.

Learn not to gamble OP. $4800 is a cheap lesson if you remember it for the rest of your life.

This is a very good point.  My buddy ended up losing his condo. His g/f left him, and ended up with custody of the kids.

If you think you might have a gambling addiction, go and talk to someone. It's a slippery slope that can spiral out of control really fast.
777  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why people buy not profitable hardware? on: January 29, 2014, 03:34:58 AM
I bought into some of the 333 mh/z cards to learn.  I knew I wasn't going to make money off them, but its been a worth while learning experience.

Then there are some that only see dollar signs without doing the math.

779  Other / Off-topic / Re: First bitcoin related suicide? on: January 29, 2014, 01:59:26 AM
Suicide is never the answer.  Remember all the people you will hurt in the process.

My roommate hung himself over 11 years ago and I found him.  I can never get that image out of my head.

Just think of all the things that you will never be able to do again and get joy out of.

I've disabled it for both pages.  Ad's are now showing up.

But it's telling me to still disable it. Any ideas?
