761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin / Ethereum Way Down Today... Time to Buy? on: June 15, 2017, 03:58:28 PM
Bitcoin and Ethereum are down over 20% today. It appears that Bitcoin's upcoming "forks" may be contributing to this, along with possible new legislation introduced by Congress looking to possibly regulate Bitcoin and other cryptos in the USA.
My initial read of this situation is that this is probably a great time to move your holdings toward Ethereum, as it doesn't have the technical issues Bitcoin has at the moment...

Here is a great article discussing all that is going on... Highly recommended: https://bitcoininvestment.news/bitcoin-and-ethereum-price-crashes-20-blood-everywhere/

Ethereum is a semi-centralized system, so it's not a Bitcoin replacement. It also has bigger scaling problems than bitcoin. Casper has been labelled as vaporware by experts on the field. I wouldn't trust Ethereum at least long term.

Litecoin seems to be the only coin that at least technically could be called a reasonable Bitcoin replacement while the situation resolves.
762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another successful short by Jihan & Ver on: June 15, 2017, 02:38:58 PM
The fall is down to $700 now. I wonder how much money they've made thus far, these guys are moving massive margins, manipulating the price and using the gains to further feed their propaganda machines.

763  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain announces plan to create altcoin if BIP148 succeeds on: June 15, 2017, 01:30:49 PM
the situation is not very good for bitmain atm

It's funny how obvious Bitmain money is on that list. Bitpay got bribed by Bitmain, which is why Bitpay signed the ridiculous NYC agreement as well. Now it's a matter of time to see if the rest of actors are reasonable or go along with the BitmainCoin hardfork.

Yes, UASF is not ideal, but BitmainCoin hardfork is worse. At this point you might as well give people the opportunity to take control over their private keys, may a soft fork happen in august 1st. It's only safe to take preventive measures. Let people choose if they want Legacy coins or BIP148 coins. It is not a hard fork after all unlike the Bitmain mess.
764  Other / Off-topic / Re: how to reach 1btc on: June 15, 2017, 12:57:57 PM
If the bigblockers continue with their antics crashing the price, you may be able to buy at a nice discount.  Im not going to try to predict any dip because I don't believe in technical analysis. Just wait a couple of weeks. If things don't dip any further just buy and hold long term through the august storm. In the end we will end up stronger.
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain announces plan to create altcoin if BIP148 succeeds on: June 14, 2017, 11:55:28 PM
Satoshi talked about digital cash. You can't have digital cash with corporations running the nodes. Satoshi was wrong, he failed to predict the current situation. Bitcoin loses its store-of-value properties with a large blocksize.

Most people with real money invested in bitcoin don't care about whatever "satoshi's original vision" was. They understand being able to run nodes is a priority.

you can have digital cash without corporate control... growth via NODES (dynamics) means nodes display what they can handle and pools follow the consensus..

there is no "gigabytes by midnight causing datacentres" debate .. you have been hypnotised into that FUD

you have been brain washed that the BScore-porate control is the only way..

all the segwit imps and bips
gavin+garzig(BLOQ->DCG)
baryysilbert(dcg)
core(blockstream->DCG)
uasf(samson/lerner->DCG)

are all the same BS

BS= blockstream, B*ll S*it, barry silbert...  its all the same BScartel

goodluck with you BScoin

You keep repeating this "there is no "gigabytes by midnight causing datacentres"" nonsense. When will you understand that technologies like bitcoin, get exponentially adopted which would mean there would be no way to smoothly scale on-chain transactions to handle all the demand without ending up with datacenters running nodes?

Notice how "gigabytes by midnight" would indeed be the case once the curve of adoption reaches the typical steepness and then you are fucked if you want to keep the fees low and keep everyone transacting on-chain happy without complains of "blocks are full".
766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain announces plan to create altcoin if BIP148 succeeds on: June 14, 2017, 09:27:07 PM

Do you feel you are being censored here? You're sprouting your horseshit and people are free to agree with it, yet somehow no one does. Apart from the mentally disabled useful idiot Ver, there is no one with any significat amount of BTC that supports jihancoin. Lets just let the market decide, cant wait to sell my jihan altcoins.

You must be a new bitcoiner.

Supporting larger blocks is simply adhering to Satoshi's original vision, Large Blocks is not "jihancoin" it is simply scaling Bitcoin the way that it was originally intended. Using that kind of vocabulary only reveals yourself as either being New, Brainwashed or having Low intelligence, or possibly all three.

Anyone worth their salt knows that Blockstream are the ones attempting to fundamentally alter Bitcoin, and nothing is more worthy of being called an altcoin than the Astroturf'd UASF crapcoin. Segwit in itself is also a radical change, much more radical than simply increasing the blocksize.

Get off r/bitcoin and go read a book or something.

Satoshi talked about digital cash. You can't have digital cash with corporations running the nodes. Satoshi was wrong, he failed to predict the current situation. Bitcoin loses its store-of-value properties with a large blocksize.

Good luck with premined ChinaCoin if that's what you want.
767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain announces plan to create altcoin if BIP148 succeeds on: June 14, 2017, 06:00:49 PM
oh i knew this would happen, what is this new coin that they would mine a fork of the original chian or an enterely new one, or maybe a coin already on the market?

It'll be a new fork of Bitcoin sort of in the vein of how XT/BU/Classic would've worked, but apparently he plans a little extra premine of 5400 "BTC" for himself.

What? That is ludicrous. Who the hell is going to stick with that nonsense? What will be the token for that one? I suggest JHC (JihadCoin). Or just call it ChinaCoin.

It looks like Jihan is losing his mind. Well, idiots and their money eventually part ways. His chance to continue being a good player in the bitcoin system are over. It would be as easy as signal for BIP141 and avoid this mess, but looks like his ego is too big to accept he is wrong. What an idiot.
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: does mircea popescu really have the power to decide if a hardfork happens? on: June 14, 2017, 05:22:50 PM

Umm... you do know that BTU has nothing to do with Bitcoin Unlimited, right? It is merely an intentionally crippled craptoken created so useless idiots would have something to post to try to tarnish Bitcoin Unlimited.

For the metric which matters -- hashpower as measured by block solutions -- BU hanging solid on 40%.

Like a boss.

Which is why I said that the futures are an advance of what would happen if Roger and Jihad were to actually go thought with it and hardfork.

Most likely miners never wanted anything that would lower fees, so the only effective idiot is you or anyone defending whatever hardfork.

We're already seeing a shocking loss of bitcoin dominance from 95% to 40%... If the big blockers fork off and leave "bitcoin" entirely in the hands of Core/Blockstream/dumb miners/trolls, then this will accelerate, collapsing even further under the weight of its its own stupidity.

The so called bitcoin dominance % has already been addressed numerous times as a misleading indicator.

Example: IOTA now comes up with at %100 premined coin worth billions and spawns right in the top 5.

The only thing that the bitcoin dominance shows is that altcoins are in a bubble, specially ETH thanks to the ICO madness.

The big blockers are the dumbest from the bunch, so they leaving can only be good. Their altcoin will collapse as demonstrated by BU developers being incompetent to keep their software safe and the price will collapse as well as everyone worth anything dumps BU coins for free BTC.
769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Core devs are invested in success of eth...this is why bitcoin has been stalled. on: June 13, 2017, 06:12:49 PM
"Core devs" is a group of 100+ people submitting stuff into the bitcoin github, and you are only citing 1 person then making a thread with "core devs".

Seriously how low can Roger Ver sockpuppets can go? lower than Bitcoin Unlimited futures even?
770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin may not be number one for long on: June 13, 2017, 05:40:10 PM
This just isn't true in the least, I've seen topic after topic like this come up with people saying that the reason for this is that a ton of other currencies are more innovative, dont have TX problems like we do, and have a wonderful dev team that's supporting the coin. Well, It's not like these coins are going to have any congestion problems when the only use for them is going to be people who are simply trading it all day for money.

The big difference between BTC and these other coins is going to be that Bitcoin is actually used by people on a daily basis, these other big coins such as XMR, XRP, and so on are coins that are just being used by traders and whales to make money. Sure, these coins are being hyped up all around but it's not because of actual usage -- it's because this is what the whales want to do to be able to get people to keep buying these coins and keep pushing up the price.

BTC will stay at #1

Don't say it will not happen. I believe ETH can be number #1 at this rate. The question is: for how long can it stay #1?

Maybe Ethereum needs to become number for investors to wake up from the delusional dream of thinking Ethereum is worth more money than Bitcoin.

Once they cross the barrier and become number 1, they may realize they are sitting on a cloud. It will only take a small crack for the entire building to collapse, and sooner or later it will, and Bitcoin holders will both have the last laugh and reap the benefits.

772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please, Stop Calling Bitcoin "Digital Gold" on: June 13, 2017, 12:55:20 PM
But Satoshi designed Bitcoin to mimic the scarcity of precious metals, like gold.

And Bitcoin is digital.

So Huh

What? When did Satoshi designed bitcoin to mimic gold?

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
Read the title:
Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System

Bitcoin was meant to be a p2p alternative to cash not digital gold silver or diamonds.

Treat bitcoin as digital gold and you'll end up with digital nothing.
Once you stop using bitcoin in the daily life it will lose all reasons to exist.

Gold is not only used as an investment. There are thousands of uses for it, replace it with other materials and you'll see the value drop like a stone and nobody treating it as an investment anymore

True or False?
"Digital Gold" is a BS claim from people who deny the reality of the current crisis?

Crisis is too much to describe the current situation.
The blocks are still full, transactions are still running a solution is at the horizon.

The so called "gold use cases" to justify its intrinsic value are greatly exaggerated. Gold is pretty much useless and could be replaced by any other metal with similar malleability and durability, in fact im sure there are cheaper and better alternatives.

Gold is just a good store of value because of its network effect. Bitcoin can become a better one if it survives for a long time.
773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All cryptocurrencies vallue dropping fast atm on: June 12, 2017, 05:22:05 PM
What is happening with the cryptocurrncy market right now, all altcoins and bitcoin are dropping in price very fast.
What could cause such a thing, just look at coinmarketcap and poloniex, they are all in red :S. Whats happening?Huh

It's just another bitcoin correction, happens every time there is a bull run. When bitcoin corrects, almost all altcoin go red. From the top 30 cryptos, the only 3 coins that are green right now:

-Ethereum: 8%
-Bitshares: 2%
-NXT: 30%

Let's see if the hold on the green if BTC keeps going down.
774  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will people start moving their savings to Bitcoin in case of a financial crash? on: June 12, 2017, 04:47:17 PM
this same collapse was predicted so many time it's not funny anymore, and it did not happen each tiem it was predicted, i guess eventually some fiat will crash in the future

but thinking that all the fiat will crash and people start to move on bitcoin is silly, they will play the same game about printing more money out of thin air and paying the debt with more debt

Fiats have a life expectancy of 100-150 years, so according to past events, we should be seeing in the fall of the dollar somewhere around 2020-2040... who knows what will happen.

If bitcoin manages to stay safe from hardforking drama and remains a solid network, im sure people will look into buying some bitcoin as an hedge against a massive fiat crash.
775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: does mircea popescu really have the power to decide if a hardfork happens? on: June 12, 2017, 03:06:38 PM
Buggy Unlimited is already:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-unlimited/

It's literally out of the picture. The miners just mine it to not resolve the situation and keep stacking up big fees.

If someone is stupid enough to hardfork, they will lose money if they sell their coins for BarryCoin, BuggyCoin, or WhateverthefuckCoin.

fool
1. bu is not activated nor will ever activate unless there is consensus.. there is no BU coin..
2. if there is a proper consensus fork. then the majority survives..(because consensus wins).. so the minority will lose their value for holding onto their minority.
3. your not realising the barrycoin is the same BScoin as blockstreams segwitcoin... barry and blockstream are together.. its all bait and switch divide and conquer techniques just to try getting segwit activated sooner rather than later by pretending its 'options/free choice' when really its just a new bridge that leads to the same highway

Those BU futures are just an advance of what would happen to BU coin if Roger and Jihad are dumb enough to go through with it.

If there is no consensus for segwit then so be it. ANYTHING is better than 2 coins. I hope that whatever OP is talking about is true and whales are able to stop any hardforks. Paying big fees is better than having 2 bitcoins. All I ever wanted with bitcoin was a long term store of value anyway. If I wanted to transact fast and cheap you can always use litecoin or whatever.

If bitcoin hardforks it's pretty much game over for any hopes of a cryptographic store of value.
776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: does mircea popescu really have the power to decide if a hardfork happens? on: June 12, 2017, 12:27:20 PM
BU has the hashrate, core has the economic power, or atleast, more than BU. If core side dumps bitcoin BU, they will still have to convince BU miners to mine on their chain, because let's face it, 3-5 chinese guys control most of the hashrate. And BU obviously want BU side to succeed, which means, core will lose even with the most economic power because they won't have enough mining power.

core has economic power?

last thing i read is that the exchanges would accept and trade both coins of any split that may occur.. so the 'economic' power is equal.

as i said in last post its more complex.
for instance if the BScartel only allowed their portfolio of exchanges to only allow deposits and withdrawals of segwit(AKA BScoin) .. THEN core would have economic power. but by exchanges allowing all forks to be traded. the ecomonic power is equalised

as for core having node power.. as of today cores nodes are empty flagging segwit without even having a node ready to make a segwit tx on the main net. (that will come as a later release after activation) so technically core has zero node power in true support of segwit. its just meaningless hand waving right now with promises of a proper version release after activation.

if you think that segwit tx's are going to occur overnight after activation. think again. even litecoin hasnt bothered to even get the segwit supporting pools to use segwit tx's. let alone the wider community..

all in all.. nothing is set in stone.. whether its
november-soft-segwit
august-hard-segwit
segwit-and-2mb-lagacy
1mb-legacy
dynamic-legacy

its still all up in the air, and going to be a clusterf**k of orphans for everyone.

777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BU and Segwit are myspaceing BTC on: June 11, 2017, 06:19:48 PM
Just want to put this out there on the record.

The results will be decided on August 1, let's wait together, however, one thing is certain, BU will not be recognized. Segwit and core will be the only two options.

did i miss something? segwit IS core, isn't it?

SegWit is developed by Core and is their solution, yes.
Quote from: darkangel
The results will be decided on August 1
To be honest I don't expect BIP 148 to get far.  For now it's stuck with a negligible amount of hashrate which would end up making it near worthless when a split happens.

I'm thinking the real solution will be a better UASF a while later, or a compromise involving SegWit + 2mb implemented by Core.

If neither of those things happen, we might end up with a half-hearted attempt to implement LN on the current Bitcoin, and a pathetic display leading to a slow takeover from alts.

The question you should be making yourself is: are all those alts attempting to takeover Bitcoin really decentralized? are they really a replacement for what Bitcoin has to offer?

Or do they easily scale and implement changes because they are centralized?
778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2017, 04:54:07 PM
By the tone of your posts; "Nothing can stop ETH now, it's proven itself. It's gonna keep going up forever", I'd say it's definitely near a top.

i've thought it wasn't humanly possible to get any higher just about every minute of every day for the last few months. nothing's changed for me.

Same here, but that doesn't mean I will go into a state of delusion.

I may be wrong about it though and I'm keeping an eye on it.

Im holding 0 ETH for the record, but if the ICO madness continues, everyone buying needs to buy some ETH. My thesis is that some people will hold some ETH long term instead of going 100% on that ICO. "Just in case I'll keep some ETH in my wallet".

On other news: BTC hits 3003 on bitfinex. Okcoin, 3071. Bitstamp and BTC-e remaining to join 3000 party.
779  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 10, 2017, 04:21:09 PM
Shorting ETH/BTC is probably a very good idea right now.

Do you mean shorting both ETH and BTC or shorting ETH against BTC?

If so... why?

Ethereum continues being a hype machine. You can hate the project as much as I want, you can call it a scam which it probably is and so on, but something is clear: ETH has been an amazing investment, and it's a constant hype train with every ICO or Vitalik antics, getting all those corporations board. The latest one is Vitalik visiting Putin... markets love that kind of stuff. I wonder if we'll eventually see ETH reach 4 figures.
780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: WALLET.DAT or SEEDS - What is the safest on: June 10, 2017, 03:18:55 PM
a seed is better. because you can hide it much better. both in the electronic form and physical form
design a crossword
hide the words it as a grocery shopping list
a christmas wishlist

that seed is yours for life
..
wallet.dats can get corrupted. data loss, physical loss of usb memory stick, virus, electrical surges killing memory storage
and every time you use a new address or move funds to a new change address you usually end up needing to re-backup the wallet

But for the very paranoid there is also a good extra in wallet.dat = it cannot be generated with any seed, so only you own it.

With a seed, theres a chance someone somehow generates your same seed.. but with a wallet.dat, they would need to steal the file.

If you keep safe backups of your wallet.dat in various forms, I think it's a valid cold storage.
