761  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 29, 2012, 04:05:54 PM
One approach to the "who owns how many shares" challenge, (I may suggest this to Nefario if he doesn't already have something else in the works):

- Allow an asset Owner to generate a "certificate" for a number of shares. Which then become "locked" in their account.
- They can unlock the shares at any time, which would invalidate the certificate.
- The asset Owner can then distribute a public key for the certificate, allowing someone else to verify they own the certified number of shares
- If at any time the certificate becomes invalid, any "subscribers" to the certificate, would be notified. (And it would show as invalid in the web interface).

This way if someone here for example wanted a seat on the board, they could email a request to the Issuer, who in turn requests a verification certificate for 5000 shares. They respond with a public key. Then the Issuer can use the public key to subscribe to  the certificate, and issue board member status accordingly. If the user decided to liquidate their shares they could do so without any "delay" but the Issuer would be notified immediately that the certificate had been invalidated.

This allows validation of share ownership, and it also allows maintaining privacy of the shareholders.

+1 internets for you, sir.

UPDATE:
Due to some investors voicing concerns about GPUMAX's affiliation with pirateat40 and the sudden disruption of payouts, I have decided to no longer mine using GPUMAX.  Please feel free to voice your opinion on this.

Which pool(s) will be used instead, and will GPUMAX be utilized again if Pirate makes good on BTCS&T payouts?

After some testing, I found that we received the lowest % of rejects with Ozcoin & MtRed.  I tried a few others, but received an above average number of stales/rejects.  I would be open to going back to GPUMAX if they resume payouts and BTCST pays it's debt obligations.

Good to know, thanks for the update.

I don't know why you guys are talking about pirate, this is a Harry Potter thread.

Update

The motion has been passed.

Voted Yea:46649
Voted Nay:17439

8,000 BTC will be exchanged for fiat within a relatively short time. We will not dump too fast if the bid wall is not thick enough.

When we start to pay for our expenses, the financials will be given to the public, while details of each spending will be given to board members.

I'm appreciative of the transparency of the operation thus far, friedcat. Respectable Bitcoin companies offering public shares should look at ASICMINER and follow suit.

Keep it up!

Also, are you planning on trading the 8000 BTC on an exchange, or finding a private party who wants to buy? According to ClarkMoody, selling 8000 on MtGox right now at $10.5 would net $82183.90, with slippage of $1816.25. Selling privately for $10.5 would get $84000, but price could drop before finding somebody... hmm...

Voted yes. This is obviously the safest course of action for Bitfountain's success.
767  Economy / Securities / Re: Portfolio suggestions on: August 23, 2012, 11:29:12 PM
Could you explain why you think mining companies will fail? Miners should always, on average, be profitable. If mining becomes unprofitable for some, those with a low profit margin will be forced out, but those with a safer profit margin will be able to stay in and make profits.
768  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Money Returned List (zero Mon-Tue, None reported Wed). on: August 22, 2012, 08:09:05 PM
For me it looks like he bought this coins directly from a large miner, which makes sense to me.

in that case we would see an intermediate address...

Maybe he's working with the miner to send coins to addresses?

Or... Pirate used his lenders' money to create ASIC chips.
769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pirate is going to build a Tesla Science Center! on: August 22, 2012, 07:59:35 PM
Wow, this would be amazing for the community. Building a museum, pirate paying back his lenders, Bitcoin exploding in the press... gives me a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking about it.

GLBSE wouldnt allow someone to list a security with an actual business model ? huh.

Well, then there wouldn't be enough room for PPTs and mining bonds/shares, duh!

...new shares of ASICMINER aren't being sold on GLBSE anymore? The price just jumped to 250% of what it was.
773  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: August 11, 2012, 02:51:27 AM
Seems pure btc to me.  Bond is priced in btc, coupons are btc, upgrade is priced in btc.

It's a bitcoin economy.  Can I buy shares in direct barter for asparagus?

I did think it a bit odd when gigavps first mentioned that the fee could go down because of a change in exchange rate, but I figured I'd ask anyways.
774  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: August 10, 2012, 03:42:23 PM
As the price of Bitcoin has gone up significantly since the Teramining announcement, will the fee for exchanging Giga shares for Tera shares be lower than 0.25? If so how much would the fee be if, for instance, Bitcoin is at $11.5 when Teramining launches?
775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The flaw of Bitcoin economic/security model. on: August 02, 2012, 03:18:44 PM
TL/DR
1) Deal with public companies
2) Don't deal with companies which "hang on" to huge amounts of customer funds.

Every noticeable eWallet and Bitcoin Exchange falls under second category.

What if someone created a Bitcoin Exchange where in order to trade, you first place the order on the site. Let's say it's a sell order. Then the site gives you a Bitcoin address to send the funds to for the order. You send the BTC to the address, and when the order is filled the fiat currency is sent to Dwolla. It isn't imperative that the payment processor be Dwolla obviously, I just can't think of a better payment processor for this use-case ATM.

It might not be good for some uses because of the increased transaction fees compared to MtGox (bots and trading methods that use many transactions), but there would be less trust involved, as the site would not need to hold funds for long. One would only have to trust the exchange to not run away with one's order funds while the order is still in the book.

What are the reasons this would not work?

"No true anarchist is going to be running for public office. And no true anarchist is going to be voting either."

I image it would be very difficult to run for any public office on an anarchist platform.

777  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Diablo Mining Company (DMC) [11.5 gh] [2.931 mh/share] on: August 02, 2012, 02:30:44 AM
It will not be impacted. What I just did was disclose a flaw in the plan: the plan is much more profitable than I originally realized. Oops.

Mine bitcoins with constant hashrate while difficulty increases by two orders of magnitude, and suffer no impact to your bottom line? Yeah, Im sure that is more profitable than anyone realizes.  The scary part is that some people might actually fall for it.

Once he gets renewable power sources up and running, difficulty shouldn't be too big of an issue. Whether one mines 50 BTC a day or 20 BTC a day, if one doesn't pay for electricity, one still makes a profit. It's a 60% decrease in revenue, but when operating costs are 0 it shouldn't be a monumental concern.

If you don't think it's a good investment, don't invest. The same goes for any security, on GLBSE or elsewhere.

Bitcoin could thrive without the Internet as we know it today, actually.

It will just take a bit of work.

As for dealing with loss of an electrical infrastructure... I suppose it could be argued that the whole thing could be powered by decentralized solar and wind energy, but at that point... well, we've got other things to worry about than Bitcoin.

There's a character for an abstract triangle-ish "B"? Can I get a screenshot? Or someone please tell me which font to install

780  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Now Funded] Help build a better Bitcoin logo! on: July 30, 2012, 12:23:54 AM
Although the BTC is recognized and has built a brand, I don't particularly like it, and prefer the latin B with horizontal bar...

I don't usually say this out loud, but... that one looks like a guy with a stick up his a...ss

I don't usually say this out loud, but BTC looks like an aerial view of a woman with large breasts and very small arms, beheaded. Headless bodies are more disconcerting to me than sodomy, so +1 for the Ƀ.
The Ƀ, whatever it is, doesn't display on my system. The "currency sign"¤, and the custom font BTC however, do.

The Ƀ is in your avatar. Cheesy
