7601  Other / Meta / Re: Post deletion emails on: September 06, 2021, 06:54:44 AM
Posts which are considered as spam are not related to the topic then it will be deleted when a mod see it or when someone report it.
His reply was related to the topic. He even briefly mentioned a flaw he found with the service he tested.

In general your posts will be deleted if you post generic replies or saying something which has been already told even in the same thread a million times already.
That didn't happen either. His post was the first and only post made in that particular thread.

Don't reply to in a mega thread
A post isn't necessarily bad/spam/off-topic just because it's in a megathread. If the problem is with the thread itself, then it's the thread that should be deleted or locked.

Avoid posting one liners just for the sake of increasing your post count
No arguments there. One liners and replies that don't move the discussion in the right direction should be avoided.

Avoid replying to a very old thread when it doesn't necessary
True, but there are also valid reasons why you could do it and where it would be deemed necessary.
7602  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Crypto Casino with a built in MIXER and token bridges!!! on: September 06, 2021, 06:34:43 AM
There is no detail information provided by the owner related to the mixer,
Why would a casino or cryptocurrency exchange have a mixer anyways? They are already a mixer and can be used to mix your coins in a way and remove the trace of where they came from. All the coins that get deposited all pooled together. When you make a withdrawal, you are issued different coins than what you initially deposited. If the casino has an internal exchange, you can even withdraw a different asset and break the link completely.
7603  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 05, 2021, 06:35:36 PM
I would be wary of doing this for a couple of reasons. Clipboard malware could obviously change the address, but so could anything malicious on your email provider's servers.
I check the whole address before copying it and then I check it again when I paste it. My private work area has pens and papers all around and I usually note down part of the address on paper. I also check it on a block explorer if it's been part of the draft for a few hours.

It's also a privacy risk...
That's true and I agree with you on that part.

I would prefer to use QR codes or a USB drive, same as I would use for moving transactions back and forth to an airgapped device.
I use QR codes when a mobile is part of the story. In this case, it's two computers.

I have separate USBs for all of my devices. A USB for one of my machines wont be used with the other ones. And if I have to take something to a copy shop for example, I have a USB for that, and that one only goes into the machine with the least importance to me. It gets formatted every time.
7604  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How secure are the hardware wallet sold online in the market? on: September 05, 2021, 06:20:31 PM
I read somewhere online that bitcoin has high security features if the user can do the right practices to secure it. This means that the fault is not with the bitcoin, but on the users themselves who fail to secure their bitcoin with proper practices.
That's exactly right. The Bitcoin protocol does exactly what it's supposed to do. It's the end user who makes mistakes and then blames it on the coin, wallet, exchange, etc. When people suffer financial losses they call the features that bitcoin possesses weaknesses. But irreversibility is not a weakness. Those who are used to traditional banking don't understand that once your transaction is confirmed, that's it. There is no customer support to turn to to fix it or say you were hacked.

If you send coins to the wrong address - Bitcoin worked as advertised, it was you who made a mistake.
If you don't backup your seed properly or at all and you lose access to your coins - Bitcoin still functions the way it's supposed to. You just didn't do what was necessary to protect what you have.
If you overpay the transaction fees by 500% - Bitcoin didn't scam. It did what you wanted it to do.

Resetting and reinstalling it, won't it break the functionality of the wallet itself, or won't it affect anything on the device and the device will return to factory settings?
No, that just wipes the device clean and resets it to the state it was in when you first bought it. You can use multiple seed phrases with the same device if you wanted to. But it would be tiring having to recover different wallets from seed if you do that often.

I will buy it in the future, but I really have to learn it from now on. To verify, I hope I can find the correct toturial later.
A getting started guide would either come with the package or it will point you towards the correct link where you can read more about it.
7605  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Crypto Casino with a built in MIXER and token bridges!!! on: September 05, 2021, 09:28:52 AM
I wanted to check out your site but seems I have to register to see what you are offering. I don't like being forced to register if I don't want to. You have also not included any FAQ or TOS that I could read before signing up to see whether or not my country is restricted, etc. I don't know what payment methods are accepted or your limits or withdrawal fees. All that should be accessible and available so players an make up their mind whether to join your casino or not.
7606  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcasinorank.com - Reviews and ranking of Crypto Casinos on: September 05, 2021, 09:14:02 AM
Do not hesitate to share your thoughts about it
I took a quick look at it. I didn't know that FreeBitcoin had a Wheel of Fortune. I haven't visited the site for a long time. Trying my luck with the Wheel of Fortune is a good reason to come back.
Good review and easy to read. Can you introduce a night mode by any chance? it's not very pleasant looking at the white background for long.
7607  Other / Meta / Re: Do you think some plagiarism can happen "by mistake"? on: September 05, 2021, 08:59:02 AM
Anyhow, back to the topic. How about introducing three strikes rule? First strike - a warning, second strike - a temporary ban, third strike - a permanent ban.
Any changes that were to be made concerning plagiarized content and account banning would just bring about new discussions and complaints, such as:
Where was this rule when I was banned? I only had one plagiarized post, why did I not get a warning instead of a ban? Etc., etc.

If someone browses this forum, reads books about Bitcoin, and watches YouTube videos on that subject, that person has probably acquired all kinds of info and knowledge that he will remember. Naturally, it's hard to remember what you heard or read where. But when making a post or replying to someone on Bitcointalk, you can always say something like: "I read", "I remember seeing", "Member X said in one of his posts", "I can't remember the source, but...."

All that relieves you of the responsibility that you are trying to make it look like what was written are your words. You don't have to cite the source for everything if you don' know it, but make sure to mention that someone else said it. I haven't looked into what Mpamaegbu and Pokapoka124 are blamed for, so this is only a general recommendation.
7608  Other / Meta / Re: Post deletion emails on: September 05, 2021, 08:24:50 AM
If your post was only a "thanks, great thread" kind of post, I would understand the reason it got deleted. That's absolutely worthless, especially in a thread that old. But your post also contained a good piece of information, and that is that the node manager doesn't display peers with onion addresses. OP doesn't mention that, so I wouldn't classify your reply as being worthless.

However, if you added some more info and it looked a bit more like a review that showed what you thought about it, I think it wouldn't have been deleted. If you have valid questions or concerns about the app, you should have the right to express those in the original thread.
7609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Letting Crpyto Exchanges Find A Camera On A Cell Phone To Verify Documents on: September 05, 2021, 08:02:28 AM
Does the exchange not give you any other options to undergo the verification process? Not everyone has webcams. Laptops have them, but many desktop computers don't. There should be an option with instructions on how to take the needed pictures manually and upload them. Take a good look at all the buttons and what they do when you open the verification software.
7610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Reserves on Coinbase the Lowest Since December 2017 on: September 05, 2021, 07:56:42 AM
This is most likely the correct answer due to the past history of exchange hacking, they want to keep their bitcoins privately without being controlled by any exchanges out there. They looking to hodl it for a long that's why they want to keep it somewhere safe without anyone know about it.
There is a problem with that. I don't use Coinbase but I would assume that all users there have to undergo KYC before they can buy and withdraw, right? That means that Coinbase knows exactly who bought or sold what on their platform and where they sent those coins to. You can't protect your anonymity on centralized exchanges where you have undergone KYC. You can mix your coins after withdrawing from the site, but the exchange will always know what you had at one point.
7611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Reserves on Coinbase the Lowest Since December 2017 on: September 05, 2021, 07:32:04 AM
I am not going to speculate whether or not the fact that a lot of Bitcoin is being withdrawn from Coinbase is a good or a bad sign. But I do see a few positives in it:

- Crypto owners prefer to keep their coins in their own private wallets. Hopefully open-source and non-custodial ones.
- A smaller amount of bitcoin on Coinbase means less selling pressure. Temporarily at least. We know that all that can change in the space of a few blockchain confirmations when thousands of Bitcoins can be dumped.
- The smaller supply coupled with increased demand affects the price positively.
7612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin pro tool on: September 05, 2021, 07:15:13 AM
I really don't think you are a "Bitcoin pro" in the way I understand that term. If you were, you would be involved in serious technical discussions about the way Bitcoin and its blockchain works, future improvements, etc. But you are not. You might know how to use wallet, how to pay and store your coins, how to trade, save on fees, and stuff like that. That's good, but that doesn't make you a "professional" That makes you a user or an enthusiast.

I consider pros those people you can turn to when you need help. People who can code and come up with better, faster, and more secure solutions. The guys who have the knowledge and experience to tackle and find workarounds to almost any problems. I doubt that's you, but you are welcome to prove me wrong.
7613  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: September 05, 2021, 07:02:18 AM
As I mentioned earlier, Ledger Live claim that it is automatically verifying the download for you when you use the update button...

What about automatic updates

The update mechanism is secured once you've verified and installed Ledger Live. Ledger Live checks each upcoming update against Ledger's public key to verify that the update is legitimately from Ledger.
I understood the bolded part as a suggestion to users to still verify one instance of Ledger Live before they install it. After that, Ledger will carry out the other checks for all future updates. But you know the saying: Don't verify, update!" It shouldn't matter what Ledger says.

But its taking a very long time.  Is this normal?
Yes, it's normal (he said hoping you would stop asking unnecessary questions). Just make sure you have a priest present in the room to provide your software with the needed blessings. He should also be able to speed up the download time.

Again I haven't did any ledger live update through ledger live in months, etc., etc., etc.
Oh good. It's been almost a day and I was worried that you wouldn't tell us that you haven't done any Ledger Live updates in months. Thanks for that. See you tomorrow where I expect you to tell us how long and why you haven't done any Ledger Live updates.
7614  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Strange error while using my Trezor wallet with the RBF feature on Suite on: September 04, 2021, 05:09:58 PM
Seems like it's a common error that not only affects Trezor when there are issues with imperfect code. Take a look at this thread back from 2017:
https://github.com/trezor-graveyard/trezor-chrome-extension/issues/12

The user explained how he got the same type of error when he was attempting to restore his wallet from seed. That error was fixed within a few days and it was no longer happening in the newer versions.
7615  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How secure are the hardware wallet sold online in the market? on: September 04, 2021, 04:55:20 PM
Whatever hardware wallet you end up buying (if you do), just make sure you follow the official security documentation that tells you how to verify the software and hardware components of it.

But it is worrying that criminals have found ways to create identical devices with replacement chips that contain fake firmware. You wouldn't notice a physical difference if you compared it to a genuine device. But such a fake device has to communicate with a fake software as well. If you connected it to Ledger Live to install an app for your coin, it wouldn't be able to connect to Ledger servers.
7616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are athletes also becoming problem gamblers? on: September 04, 2021, 08:08:30 AM
Quote
Players and athletes are technically more prone to gambling addiction due to the signs of compulsive gambling like winning expectations, energy levels, competitive spirit, and high IQ levels.
That's a weird statement to make. Athletes are surely not highly intelligent people. They might be smart and have a good understanding of the sport they play, but for most of their lives, they focused on physical development and not on the mental aspects. And a highly intelligent individual does not become a gambling addict and pisses away his future.

Quote
In the case of a normal person, after losing money in gambling, he might want to move to safer ways that would eventually help to recover his losses. Whereas, among athletes, it is a sense of superiority and power, and thus winning is the only option for them as they do not like defeat. More money is invested into gambling, and it goes on.  This is where their addiction begins.
I agree with this. Although, all gambling addicts act in the same way. That does not apply exclusively to athletes. All gambling addicts chase wins and try to recover from losses immediately by making illogical decisions. That's how a bad situations become even worse.
7617  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet VPN problem on: September 04, 2021, 07:12:59 AM
This is a really weird situation, because how else to explain that just running a wallet stops a VPN connection - as if the wallet itself is configured to close if it detects a VPN Huh
If the wallet closed itself when it detects a VPN connection, I would understand that. But in this particular case, the wallet makes the VPN turn off. How can Exodus possibly have an affect on other software?

@hugeblack
Have you tried with some other VPN to see if the issues continue with other software as well?
Some time ago I came across Tachyon VPN on the forum. I think it should still be free to use. Sometimes I fire it up when I am outside accessing my stuff on a public network.
7618  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: September 04, 2021, 06:58:27 AM
Hey.  Well back then, I always clicked on the update on the top right corner in ledger live whenever i saw an update available.  I always did this until few month ago when there was a ledger live update and people said you had to download it directly from the ledger website... so because of that... I didn't want to do it.
I really have to ask... Are you receiving regular and repeated blows to your head or something? Click the update button to update your version of Ledger live, what's wrong with you?

You can't verify the download when clicking on top right corner of update on ledger live right?
How would that verify anything? The update button does what its name suggests. It updates the software to the newest release. You have to do the verification yourself as explained in the OP.
7619  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: September 04, 2021, 06:39:46 AM
And, the URI scheme works with the Blockcain.com wallet so you can put it back on the list.
Now we have two people claiming it works and one who says it doesn't. I will just wait for the next reply from someone who is interested in checking before I put it back on the list. Like in sports, let's see if the result will be 3:1 or a draw after all.

BlueWallet also works (obviously, mainnet wallet only, not LN), so you can add it as well.
BlueWallet has been added. Thanks for the tip.
7620  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 04, 2021, 06:35:04 AM
I have a crap multicoin hot wallet on my phone. When I need an address on my PC I either text myself and use google messages to copy and paste or I just email it to myself.
Since I have several laptops and devices and only one of them has crypto software and my Ledger Live installation, I sometimes need to save a bitcoin address to check it on the other device or do something with it. For that purpose I also sometimes save it as a draft in my email so I can access it quickly on the second device.

So this morning I sent a text and did a copy & paste and it was wrong, just a few letters at the end. I flashed back to this thread and worried, is it my phone, is it the laptop? Where and when and how did I get compromised? WTF?

The answer:
So....I really need to start wearing my glasses when doing stuff. That or get a bigger laptop screen.
So what actually happened? I assume you didn't get infected with some clipboard hijacker. Was the copy/pasted thing correct and you just didn't see it properly or did you copy the wrong stuff?
