https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Quantum_computing_and_Bitcoin

It's not clear whether quantum computers large enough to attack Bitcoin will come into existence in 10 years or 100+ years. If the former, then making Bitcoin quantum-safe in a hurry will be messy, though it can and will be done.

It's certainly not the "end of blockchain technology". Anyone who says that doesn't know what they're talking about. Designing a quantum-safe cryptocurrency is trivial, though it adds significant overhead, which is why nobody's really doing it yet. QRL claims to be a functioning and remarkably efficient quantum-safe cryptocurrency (though still much less efficient than quantum-unsafe cryptocurrencies), but I haven't looked into any aspect of it very much.

A few other coins promote themselves on the bases of being quantum-resistant ( i don't like to use the word "safe" because it's a very inaccurate IMO) .
but you are right in terms of clarity that concerts the the efficiency of quantum computing and it's ability to harm blockchain technology, given the current data we have at our disposal , it's more like a unicorn. but still i see nothing wrong with improving bitcoin if the treat appears.

2. SHA256 isn't vulnerable against QC[1]

"Grover's algorithm makes it a "much easier" to brute force a hash function by using only the square root of evaluations as apposed to current/classical 0/1 computing. while a square root of something may seem like a lot of reduction , but it latterly means nothing when you trying to brute force something which is 256 bits long. 7602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to bypass ""Cannot find Signature" when updating your antminer firmware. on: December 29, 2018, 01:37:24 AM
mikeywith - do you know which miners are doing this now?

I'd be tempted to release a version of each that doesn't have this crap in it -- it's a ridiculously stupid check they've implemented. Their software prowess is sad.

-j

the once i am aware of are the D3 and the L3 as well as the L3++. but if i am not mistaken i have read someone had a problem with his S9 when trying to flush Briiins fw.

i hope other members will confirm about other miners.

the strange thing is even in D3 and L3, not all batches have this stupid signature check.
7603  Other / Meta / Re: Bug on the merit system? on: December 29, 2018, 12:20:03 AM

Also, where the fuck do you live to get 1GBps WiFi? If you don't mind me asking, I'm guessing wales, but i don't want to assume anything.

first thing first, he probably means 1Gbps and that's 125mBps , also i don't think he is referring to the the ISP bandwidth but rather his local network router. which could be the gateway to an old slow dial up connection with only 56 kbit/s.

with that being said, the speed of how fast you can actually post/merit which basically an "update or insert" command into the database of bitcointalk is  irrelevant. even if you were using the fastest internet speed on planet earth you will still be limited by the speed of the database engine as well as the server it runs on.  so the fast merits you done there are nothing but result of your fast "hands" rather than the speed of your internet or computer.

-------------------------------------------

as for the bug, i noticed that too, i think the easiest solution would be to be to close the page after the button is clicked, since the merit page is useless after having sent the merit as it opens in a new tab.  so that will be more like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone.

I have serious issues with Islam but know that if I was in the field fighting Islamic terrorists, those on my side would be mostly Muslim.

I am a Muslim and my only serious issue is with bitcoin difficulty rising almost 9% in 2 days which sucks >https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty
7605  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC broke all major support lines, and the worse is yet to come. on: December 28, 2018, 11:46:47 PM
Right now the bitcoin price is nearby 3600+ below your SL:3650, so i think your SL  got triggered as in most of the exchanges the price is down below 3600 level. So what will be the next position to take in the market.

price did not go below 3686$ on bitfenx. it's important the you treat each exchange differently, and stick to the one you use.

on binance price was as low as 3540$ because that's BTCUSDT. the point here is to use the support line as your SL, regardless of what the numbers show.

if you look at my chart, you see a green line at 3689.3$ that was the support line that was supposed to hold the price, and price bounced just about 70 cents above it.

on the exchange that had 3550$ then that support line was at the price.

the support line is drawn based on the prev support 25 and 27 nov , and as Resistance on 9 dec and 17 dec. it is a very critical level and it will look almost the same on as a whole on any exchange, but the prices will be different.

also you should not refer to SL as per exact number " as i explained in my prev posts", i do not set auto SL, i set Auto TP but not SL. you need to wait for at least an hour candle close below the support, you set a price alert on trading-view , you get and email or sms when prices crosses that target, you then wait for the candle close, if it closes below you exist, if not you don't.

but if you know you are way too far from your pc /phone and won't be able to react, then you may set an automatic SL.

i hope you understand.

as for the next steps, i closed half of my potions at TP1 , waiting for 4250 on biftnex with my SL changing to close below 3800 because 3800 is now a new local support that should hold the price up.

Good luck.
7606  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS and War on Terror is BULLSHIT. on: December 28, 2018, 11:16:42 PM
ISIS and Al-Qaida cannot be explained only as terrorism groups/bands or by their sponsors. DAECC is full doctrine held by muslims. Am not claiming that muslims are terrorists but all the terror acts are verified by Islam holy books and rituals.
It's a crisis of conscioussness, you will observ it when living in muslim society; all of them are very conservatives.

i will give you a whole year to find a single verse in the Quran that verifies a single act for terror and you win the case.

and since i have read the book a dozen times, my bet is that you won't find any.

on the contrary you will find that the book says.

"whosoever killeth a human being for other than man slaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah’s sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth"

the only time that Islam allows its people to fight is when defending themselves.

but anyway this is off-topic and you derived from the main point.

there were more Muslims killed by ISIS than non-Muslims, more than 90% of ISIS and Alqaida attacks were on Muslims and Muslim lands

if ISIS was based on religion then the world would have 1.5 billion ISIS members by now.

if your IQ is not above average then this will be a little too hard to digest, it's indeed easier to believe whatever the Media tells you, takes 0 effort.

but if you do  a little bit of research and thinking you will come to understand the those terrorist groups are used by both Muslim and non Muslims governments to serve a purpose and nothing more.

7607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to bypass ""Cannot find Signature" when updating your antminer firmware. on: December 28, 2018, 10:49:42 PM
A few days ago, one member on forum asked how to bypass the ""Cannot find Signature" as he was trying to update his D3 miner, while this still applies to BTC miners too, so i decied to make this topic on this board, if the mods feel like it belongs to alts, please move it.

the initial thread to the guy's question can be found here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5088793.0

i gave him the soluation in step-by-step manner, so it's kinda hard to follow the whole process frorm the topic, as there were a couple of different posts, so what i am going to do here is basically combine the whole steps into 1 to make it easier to follow, if you want to check how did that guy do it and what difficulites he faced you can refer to the topic, also i would like to acknowledge that i used this russian website to learn about this method and it's only fair to post the link even if you can't read russian , i still feel the need for giving credit to the author.

https://forum.bits.media/index.php?/topic/65678-%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%BD%D1%8F%D1%8F-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%88%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%BA%D0%B0-%D0%B4%D0%BB%D1%8F-antminer-l3-%D0%BE%D1%82-blissz/&page=5&tab=comments#comment-1703686

 -------------------------------------------------------

lets start.

1- you will need to use a ssh tool like putty.

2-type the ip address of the miner in putty , keep port 22

* if message pop up > click Yes

3-username :root
  password:admin

then you will be inside the miner.

4-copy paste this line

Code:
cd /www/pages/cgi-bin
    > hit enter

like this

5-type this

Code:
vi upgrade.cgi

6-use the down arrow and find this code

-------------------------

Code:
if [ ! -f runme.sh.sig ]; then
echo "Cannot Find Signature!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
else
        openssl dgst -sha256 -verify /etc/bitmain-pub.pem -signature  runme.sh.sig  runme.sh >/dev/null  2>&1
        res=$?
        if [ $res -eq 1 ]; then
echo "Installer Not Signtured!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
        else
                if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
                        sh runme.sh
                else
                        echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
                fi
        fi
fi

#if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
#       sh runme.sh
#else
#       echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
#fi

7-click "i" on your keyboard to enter Edit Mode

8- change the code in step 6 to this code

" you don't have to delete or add any code, reffer to the comment below the code to understand more.

Code:
# if [ ! -f runme.sh.sig ]; then
      #  echo "Cannot Find Signature!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
#else
 #  openssl dgst -sha256 -verify /etc/bitmain-pub.pem -signature  runme.sh.sig  runme.sh >/dev/null  2>&1
# res=$?
# if [ $res -eq 1 ]; then
 #   echo "Installer Not Signtured!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
 #else
#    if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
#   sh runme.sh
 # else
# echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
# fi
 # fi
#fi

if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
   sh runme.sh
else
       echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
fi

"add # to the first 15 lines, and remove # from the next 5 lines"

* adding # meaning the line is commented aka won't be executed, so what you doing is simply making the miner ignore that IF function that looks for the signature.

after you are done editing the code, hit ESC key (escape) on your keyboard

9-type

Code:
:wq

and hit Enter > this code is to save and exist the upgrate file.

10-type
Code:
:q

and hit Enter > to exist the SSH session.

11-flush the new firmware.

------------------------------------
*do this at your own risk

if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck.
7608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: "Cannot find Signature"... What's this? on: December 28, 2018, 10:44:15 PM

The 'live' filesystem is reloaded from flash every boot. only /config is permanent.

Various other firmwares have handled this different. The only real way to fix this is a modification of the base firmware, temporarily do this mod or a variant, flash the updated base firmware.... from that point forward, all flashes should be good.

makes 100% sense, dunno why hasn't this crossed my mined. thanks for the explanation.

7609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My mining farm on: December 28, 2018, 10:21:39 PM

From your posts it seems you are from Arabic (Did I say correctly? Just realised I don't know how to say that in correct English). Well that doesn't matter but would love to leak secrets haha. Btw you did well in noise reduction, very good set up.
Really, how much does electricity worth for you? Mining doesn't worth for me despite the fact that I have cheap electricity, better to save my GPUs now and continue their load once mining gets profitability. If I mine now for cents, doesn't worth, my GPUs will waste their resources for nothing, I am not he one who cares much on network support.

ok you just ruined the fun, Grin  . anyway there are 22 Arab countries, you need to dig a little harder to find which country  Grin , as for "Arabic" it's a wrong term to use, you would say " it seems like you are an Arab" , but then that's just a race and not nationality, it's just like saying you are a "European".

anyway, B.S aside, i pay less than 1.5 cents $ per kwh. and there is some sort of equation that electricity company uses so depending on the total consumption it varies from 1 to 2 cents, in my set up it's slightly under 1.5 cents.

I don't mine with GPUs, since the release of Equihash ASICs i knew GPU mining would be a hustle, almost all GPU miners are now pointed at ETH and MONERO. not too much room for profit at current prices, also selling your rigs now is stupid as prices are very low. if you are not making any profit, best would be to turn them off, wait for prices recovery,i am almost 100% certain that in terms of performance, the current GPUs will be at the top for quite some time, so you don't have to worry about them becoming obsolete. that is just my own view on it.

7610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: "Cannot find Signature"... What's this? on: December 28, 2018, 10:11:03 PM

Glad it worked for you, it is strange tho, after you save it shouldn't return to prev code, unless you were doing something wrong, i know for sure because i restart my miners and setting are still there, but well you know, strange things happen, what matters now is that it worked out for you.

cheers and happy mining.
7611  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS and War on Terror is BULLSHIT. on: December 28, 2018, 03:31:24 PM

Do not know why you claim that you are not being paid for posting "shit".  English you are writing is well understandable.

Had you ever seen the victims of this terrorism or experienced it yourself, then in that case I think your post have been with some different message.  Millions of families have lost their members certainly it have been a big tragedy for those families not drama.  The sufferings of those families are not Hollywood movies for them but real tragedy.

i know my writing and grammar are bad, so before someone goes out their way and complain about writing they should know that they did not pay me to write, so they should not expect a perfect article.

with that being said, you claimed that my English writing is  "well understandable". YET you do not seem to have understood, sorry but i can't make you understand the obvious.
7612  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS and War on Terror is BULLSHIT. on: December 28, 2018, 07:02:43 AM
If I understood you correctly you trying to insinuate that terrorist group are figment of our own imagination or are tools or pawn used by someone in power?

Well you have really not be in a personal encounter with them. There are have been several occasions where individuals they abducted came back to share there encounter And it's really not one that state that this group are not real.

Terrorism is felt every where from Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and so on I still can't understand how it works in your own perspective but are you saying this is just a global conspiracy. They are so many terrorist group world wide if you don't know it's not only Isis and al-Qaeda terrorist group are countless and have left pains and anguish to many families, displaced many, and shattered the dreams of many.

This not to say they can't be sponsored by men in the government or so on. Yes the can actually be sponsored with money, arms e.t.c but the fact remains that terrorist group exist and you would be ignorant to doubt there existence

I am not denying their existence as per se, i am trying to explain to you that non of those global terrorism organisation came to existence to achieve goals based on religion/culture/history what so ever, they are fully funded by governments to perform certain tasks at a given time.

i am talking about the large organisations, not 1 or 3 individual terrorists.
7613  Other / Politics & Society / ISIS and War on Terror is BULLSHIT. on: December 28, 2018, 04:00:48 AM
unless somebody is naive and stupid enough to believe that ISIS or Al-Qaida are real then i see no reason for why up to this moment people have not realized the bullshit behind all this drama that has been taking place the past couple years.

Those organisations are nothing but a man-made well paid armies. they appear when they are asked to and disappear when their task is over.

Last year reports said that there were thousands of ISIS members in the city of Sirt - Libya. the suddenly popped out like popcorn when they were instructed too.

As a person on ground who witnessed the events, allow me to tell you the full story.

Around 2014 General Haftar who is the far east of Libya wanted to rule the country by force "no elections what so ever". he was supported by France, Saudi Arabia, UAE ,Russia and Egypt.

giving the fact that the country had a great uprising/revaluation against Qadaffi who ruled for over 42 years, the people were not willing to accept another army member to rule the country again, they wanted fair elections and a whole new system where military does not intervene in politics.

so since they could not force it deep down the people's throats, they called "Santa Claus" to drop his ISIS gifts in Benghazi the largest city in the east of libya " a few miles far from where Haftar and his army were"

so they sat there watching, ISIS do their thing, killed a good number of people, with some  HD videos on the internet showing the power of ISIS, the people were so helpless, oh LORD ! we are going to be ruled by the Islamic state forever, God help us. oh wait , God is not going to help us, General Haftar will. !

he's got the army, the money from Saudi, the weapons from France, the ground support from Egypt , he can do it. so the media started to spread the news,
" people of Benghazi are calling for almighty Haftar" to free the city from the hands of the tens of thousands of ISIS criminals.

so Haftar could not let his people down, and could not launch a war without proper arrangements, so first thing first, allow me to change my title to become

"Head of the Libyan National Army". as soon as the people accepted it ! boom

a few months later ,with the help of France, launching air attacks on empty places, civilian houses and so on, Haftar's troops marching on ground and reporting the killings of thousands of ISIS members " which only a few were shown both dead and alive",  and to make this a perfect-movie , a few members of Haftar had to die too.

and just like that, the war was over , and Haftar is is now the "head of the Libyan National Army" in the east of Libya.

okay happy ending for him, but the people on the West side "where the capital Tripoli is" were stunned by the amazing performance of the eastern army and thought like OK ! this guy could be our head of army too.

so what does the army in the west do ?

being backed by Qatar, Italy , Algeria and Turkey,U.S . they happened to have "Santa Claus's contact too" , hey Santa do you still have more of them ISIS devils ? please drop some on the West Side too.

and we all know "Santa Claus" makes everyone happy ! and boom ! the city of Sirt was taken by ISIS over night, the Western army sits there for a while too, a few people died, couple of millions of dollars spend on media and bullshit, people call for Haftar since he "had experience fighting ISIS" but our friends in the eastern army know that in order to enter the city of Sirt they have to go through the West army first, and that means a war against all the countries mentioned above including the army on the ground, so they just sat there blaming the West army for not doing anything like he did.

so a few months pass by, the army of the West launches a war against Santa Claus's airdropped ISIS that the local media reported to be couple thousands, a few air attacks from Italy and the U.S . and just over night ISIS was gone for good.

same shit that happened with Al-Qaida that was alleged for being so powerful to the extent that they could "hijack an Airplane in U.S and kill a dozen of poor innocent Americans" only then to disappear from both ground and media when there task was over. ok the U.S won the war, delete Al-Qaida, download ISIS.

now being on the ground and having contacts with all the parties involved, you do not need to be smart enough to understand this whole bullshit unicron terror.

being on the other side of the world watching your local TV news, you need to be just a little smart and think, how could an army this BIG appear over night in Syria, Iraq,Libya,Pakistan or wherever, and disappear overnight?

The Syrian army + the U.S army + The Russian Army + The Syrian Free army have all been fighting ISIS in Sryia with no success just yet ! like WTF ! .

yes it is this simple, the director has not came up with the happy ending yet, for all we know Mia Khaifa might be the one who puts the last nail in the coffin for ISIS in Syria. you just gotta wait, pay more taxes to fund the movie, send more innocent souls to die because this movie can be a long one.

sorry about my bad writing skills, English is not my first and I do not get paid for writing this shit, so you have to take it the way it is.  Grin

I just hope one day people will understand that governments and large financial institutions are making every little event in this world just like a  perfect Hollywood movie where they are the heroes, and we are the FOOLS.

Don't get caught like a deer in headlights

7614  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump is afraid of visiting troops in war zones on: December 28, 2018, 02:31:08 AM
No body is launching any war on the U.S ,  the "war zones" you talk about are others country's lands that the U.S invaded in the name of "War on Terror" bullshit. that being said, Trump is smart enough not to go places where he is most certainly not welcomed. and as for the U.S army maybe it's about time to go back home and stop pretending the world peace maker. every places that the U.S army stepped foot at had only became a better place on American TV and Media while in reality it only got worse. so what fucking "war zones" are you talking about ?

but you should spend your merit on quality posts, if people see you giving merits for shitposts, you are unlikely to get any more merits.

7616  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC broke all major support lines, and the worse is yet to come. on: December 28, 2018, 12:53:35 AM

i closed every single long position for now. should have closed right at the resistance especially with that shooting star forming on the 4H, but i got greedy and closed at 4% less profit, but still with overall about 20% profit from the falling wedge which is not bad.

why did i close my long positions ?

1-we are approaching the 4500$ strong resistance (bitfinex)
2- BTC has formed a kind of a rising wedge which if we break, we will dip to possibly 3750$
3- Bearish divergence and exhausted bulls starting to show on the trend.

what am i going to do next?

1- short the market if we break the wedge " SL will be a close above the breaking candle.

TP will be 3940, 3770   or manual close should any bullish signal appear on the chart.

2- il long the market if we the 4h candle break above the red resistance and close above, it will be safe to buy with SL being a candle close below the resistance which will then act as a support.

TP will be 4800, 5400 or a manual close if things go south.

*tho i doubt scenario 2 is going to happen, but if it does, we gotta take some very nice profit because the run will be quick.

3770 TP reached, nice little profit.

going long now, 3600-3700 is a good support, potential H&S formation

SL : 3650

TP 1 :3970
TP 2 :4250

7617  Other / Serious discussion / How Will quantum computing affect BTC security and mining. on: December 27, 2018, 11:49:08 PM

I have been reading about quantum computing and it's ability of putting the whole blockchain at "risk" , some "paid" articles seem to address quantum computer as the end of BTC and blockchain technology in general.

The ugly part is that they only address these "potential" security threats to bitcoin and not to cryptography and encryption in general.

so after reading a variety of articles and papers of where some would say that QC is the end of bitcoin while some other's think of QC more like a unicorn.

 i found this research paper

https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1711/1711.04235.pdf

which seems to me by far the most accurate yet the simplest of which i have read.

if you are interested in knowing about the potential risks to bitcoin i suggest you spend sometime reading the paper, you sure as hell will learn something new.

7618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My mining farm on: December 27, 2018, 10:52:04 PM
ventilation is important but depending on the size of the hot room, if big enough, then simply opening the door will be enough.

Ambient temperature is the most important thing, I mean, if a room is close to a 40c, do not add more miners to it, split to other rooms which the ambient temperature is lower than 40c. You should never let the room be more than 40c, most good psus are rated 50c but you should never let any with more than 40c.

Mining is still dead at moment but I think soon as eth fork is coming in july and that will be huge, eth might reach 1k again soon, regardless of it, I would buy eth and not mine it, not worth, in your case looks like you are dealing with asics which is a totally different thing but like i said before watch for the psus.

the question was referring to the exhaust/hot room, nothing is placed there except exhaust fan, so regadless how hot it is, as long as the heat goes out before it goes back through the wall then it does not matter if it's 40c or even 70c as long as it does not melt the fans and the bearings.
7619  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Is £2,500 too low for a market maker transaction? on: December 27, 2018, 12:24:46 AM
Technically speaking if we are ever going to see 3200$ then you should place your buy order at 2900$-3000$, as the nature of the market waves.
if we do not break and close above, 4500$ then the odds are we making a lower low which would be anywhere from 2900$-3000$.

so it is either you buy now or place your order at 3000$ to be safe.

also it would be a much better idea of diving your entries starting from now , then reload at every low.

Good luck.

There are only 2 ways that I am aware of.

1- Renting your signature an avatar once you rank up.

it's not much of an income, and requires some work, but still better than nothing if you are willing to make the effort.

2-Trading goods and services
