7622 Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: n0nce's Steel Washer Backup jig (customisable) on: February 03, 2022, 03:19:15 AM
Extraordinary
I already had a tough on the topic.

I looked at op's idea and decided to do this.

I ordered washers
I ordered bolts

I ordered punches

I have the other gear.

I am going to do my own thread as this one inspired me.
Cool! I'm not 100% sure yet how it's going to work, so I'll check out your topic once it's up.
Feel free to link it here as well! Smiley

Edit: How I understood, what will keep the washer in place will be 2 screws instead of this plastic jig. I must admit, your solution will probably hold it in place better, while being less good at holding the stamps square, not allowing to re-stamp easily in the exact same location (sometimes you don't hit it hard enough) and not allowing to stamp on a metal 'base' which is much better suited in my experience. But I'm intrigued to see it in action nonetheless! Grin

yeah I am certain I will have the washer held solid via 2 screws. center and six o'clock.

washers came today along with bolts and nuts.

I think I have a great jig Idea that will rig off your rig idea.

I will hold back on that idea until I see if it works.

How big is the full list of words?

24 of ?

@ dkbit98

I got this. these are 18/8 vs 316

https://www.mcmaster.com/90313A109/ got 2 packs of 25

https://www.mcmaster.com/90313A108/ got 1 pack of 50

https://www.mcmaster.com/91249A726/ got 1 pack of bolts

https://www.mcmaster.com/97149A100/ got 1 pack of 50

so 100 washers will allow me four sets.

I know that 18/8 is not as rust resistant as 316

but some lithium grease will offer more protection.

I can field test it easy peasy. Just put one outside for a few months time.

My washer choice is from this company

https://www.mcmaster.com/washers/oversized-washers-9/

I got the punch set below

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I0P8ADA?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

edit list length is 2048 words

if you had 2 separate wallets with 48 words you could make 2 of these for under 20 bucks and labor.

If you were to give a list of 60 words from below knowing that 48 of them covered 2 wallets you could have someone make the 60 words for you.
I am lazy but would think you would be fairly secure making 2 wallets and using 48 of the 60 washers.
Would be very hard to crack. It could be affordable for a buyer and makable for a fabricating guy. I wonder what the math would be on 48 of 60 good words for 2 wallets. Once set up I would think it is about 1 hours labor to make the 60 washers.

Yeah I know it is only decently secure vs using the full list.

7623 Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 264 blocks solved! on: February 03, 2022, 03:16:00 AM
Hello,

My apologies if these are duplicate questions, but does anyone know how long it takes for the CK users page to be updated with your stats? Also is there a minimum hash rate for the lotto perspective?

Thanks in advance! 😁

a usb stick with sidekick used to do 40-60gh

the new ones do 250-300gh

I am pretty sure the older sticks still work here.

7624 Other / Meta / Re: how to remove negative Trust??🤔 on: February 03, 2022, 02:01:09 AM
At op.

Your best shot is to simply admit you did wrong and move on.

You can mention to any new bounty you try to join

7627 Bitcoin / Mining / Re: i have 400$, i cannot buy a good miner, is cloud mining a good idea in this case on: February 02, 2022, 04:17:27 PM
my question up Cool, but lets just say
pls response to this question

Most cloud mining websites are scam. So my suggestion is to stay away from those, else you can easily end up with the money taken and nothing mined at all.

You are talking about most cloud mining websites are scam. So, there are websites that provide cloud mining without being a scam? Can you name those that have proven themselves well and can be trusted? Or should all cloud mining websites be treated with suspicion and caution?

no every single cloud mining site has the we can fuck you any time we want clause.

so even if they are honest. business practice will dictate cancel contract if mining totally sucks.

and or cancel the contract if mining explodes and whales.

so once again if you buy a contract it can make a few bucks if both difficulty and price move in such a range that your profits always exsist but do not go really high.

it is no more complex than this .

A huge gains = cancel
B any loss = cancel
C small profits = you make some money if they are honest.

Interesting.. and yeah? Can anything be done about it? These may well have been some sophisticated players.. presuming that the same groups got the 119k coins.. there are a lot more of those presumably stolen bitfinex coins that could get moved.

yes but at great cost to BTC's integrity.

You seem to be buying into negative presumptions in order to denigrate bitcoin.. with your "great costs" language.. and your moralizing with your chosen word: "integrity".

Over bitcoin's life, we have had quite a few exchange hacks and exit scams in bitcoinlandia.. so surely there are likely "lessons to be learned" from a variety of incidents that have happened over the years, and surely some of the earlier cases were likely pure sloppiness in which some of the ways of operating within bitcoin have become quite a bit more professional in several ways, and at the same time, I consider it problematic to be narrowing in on a moralizing framework in regards how you believe that bitcoin might be lacking because it seems quite difficult (if not impossible) to catch the bad guys. So what would you like to argue? Better tools to catch bad guys?

Bitcoin does not stop attempts to develop better tools to attempt to catch bad guys, and of course, frequently the powers that be, the mainstream media, the bitcoin naysayers, the no coiners, the shitcoin pumpers and even some other classes of individuals/institutions will end up exaggerating aspects of the supposed problem such as suggesting that bitcoin is the problem, but seems to me that you should know better than playing into those kinds of moral denigrations of bitcoin phillip..

There is a lot going on in bitcoinlandia, including that there may well be some bad guys that are able to stay ahead of law enforcement and to get away with keeping that value that they stole.. .are the bad guys going to make mistakes that contribute to getting caught? I don't know.

Do I know about the various tools that are used by law enforcement? I don't know that either because I don't have too many clues about how I would attempt to get away with a crime if I were to want to commit a crime.. while at the same time, I do try to learn aspects of trying to keep my bitcoins private and secure, and I am not even sure if there might not be ways that I am vulnerable or perhaps some better ways to achieve my objectives while attempting to maintain some kind of balance with skills that I have been attempting to learn over the past 8 years...

No one said that it is easy to hold your own coins, but I would hate to speak to the dialogue that bitcoin is lacking in moral integrity also...l because I believe that bitcoin provides way more good than harm, even if some bad guys are finding ways to make a living from various kinds of vulnerabilities that exist.. whether it is getting into exchanges or other ways of moving around value without getting caught/identified.

The simplest way is freeze them.

If they are frozen it would cost btc integrity bigly.

I doubt that bitcoin is going to reach consensus regarding the freezing of any coins.. unless there were some major security issue, which these kinds of cases (of stolen bitcoins - even if in the several millions) does not establish any such major security issue or any other reason that would likely inspire consensus...

For sure, anyone is free to create a BIP to argue for such, and to see if they are able to achieve consensus.. and it seems that you have about a snowball's chance in hell of getting consensus.. one of the ways that bitcoin is distinguished from the vast majority of shitcoins, including but not limited to ethereum.

which is why I said it would be at a great cost . and that btc integrity would suffer greatly.

frankly the most likely test case would not be a simple rip off of an exchange but forcing stale old coins to be moved or frozen. which would likely be a big deal until at least until 2058 or 2059.
7629 Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 02, 2022, 02:29:36 AM
So... The really edgy thing would for bitcoin just to waltz through this trend line sideways just to piss everyone off at once. But of course it is more likely to go up... or down.

1D below...

I am glad that you came to your senses by the time you got to the end of your statement about king daddy

King daddy no does not do sideways very gracefully, unless it does... so even if you were hedging not to presume sideways, it remains dangerous to presume sideways that might or might not end up happening....

....if that means anything to uie pooie? Tongue

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Perhaps the paper hands who sold twice in the last year at a loss are starting to feel again the urge to FOMO back in. "Third time is a charm" they say. As the train is leaving the station, the peeps waiting for <30K are scratching their heads. "What if this was the bottom and the thrain never returns to this station again?" - this thought is haunting their minds. (Biting nails and resisting the urge to buy higher than the sold price. Calculating the missed profits day after day. Until one day the FOMO urge is so strong that they succumb to the temptation and press the buy button. Usually this happens after several months of new ATHs. And the buy trade is made just a few hours before the next correction starts, which brings the FUD again and the next registered 30%+ sell loss is the final result.) This is the short story how some get poor by trading, because they are led by their love for fiat and lack of understanding for Bitcoin. Wink

Exactly! Very few understand that the old 4 year old cycle/pattern is dead. We are on the verge of something entirely new. Yearly cycles? Biannual cycles? No cycles? One huge BTC vs hyperinflation wave? Who knows... Cool

Even though it appears that the 4-year cycle is under stress and perhaps even broken.. I would not be so quick as to completely throw it out.. even though likely there had been normies who had been putting too much credence into the idea that king daddy was on some kind of a specific schedule.

Interesting.. and yeah? Can anything be done about it? These may well have been some sophisticated players.. presuming that the same groups got the 119k coins.. there are a lot more of those presumably stolen bitfinex coins that could get moved.

Dev0 is the one causing issues, does anyone know what's going on or how to bypass this?
Dev 0 is V-A2, other boards are working V-A3 version boards.

this is a LTC/Doge miner the thread should be in alt coins I will ask the mods to move it.

so lets make this guess.

Pull the three good boards. just run the dead one.

boot it 3 times 1 minute. about to clear all caches.

see if the dead board works.

if it works it may mean you can not mix boards on same controller.

Is there a way to mining Antpool from Braiins on an S9j?
If so how I configure the worker? I have been read a lot around this forum and other places but there is nothing related. I did add the pools, however it doesn't show any active workers on my dashboard (Antpool).
also I was trying to configure Slushpool on my S9j with Braiins but none of my workers appear on my slushpool dashboard. I follow their instructions but still doesn't work

Thank you in advance for nay input.

so this is a brains software question I suggest you ask it in the braiins thread

7636 Economy / Economics / Re: Can Government Really Ban Crypto? on: February 01, 2022, 02:41:47 PM
Can a government ban crypto? Yes it can.
How effective is the government at finding and punishing all the crypto users is a different question.
That's why many underdeveloped countries have lots of cryptocurrency users, despite the fact that those governments banned cryptocurrency trading and mining.
Your example with Android and Nokia isn't really accurate. The best example of a stupid government ban would be the dry regime in the USA(1920-1933).
The process of banning alcohol in the USA backfired and fueled the organized crime with millions of dollars worth of illegal revenue.

Yep and the government (pick a country) has more guns and thugs (cops, miliatary) than it average citizen.

Very few private citizens can truly say F off to the government .

Classic example was Columbia. The drug kingpin Escobar killed over 20,000 cops and soldiers and eventually he was shot to death in the streets of Medellin (actually on a rooftop)

He had money and power ,workers and soldiers etc. And his own government took him out.

So pretty much any government can do as they please. Very rarely they fall most often they take out the people fighting them.

@icopress, shouldn't there be an alternative for lucky raffle draw winners to withdraw/getting the prize and not having to mandatory place a bet on a site? Someone like me (supposed if I had won) would be lost as to what to do with a bet as I haven't played any. The best I remember playing were WHOT and Ludo as a kid. So, is there an escape somewhere for those like me in a way that every winner is carried along?

Actually its a fair point I am a 20 year plus member of GA and don't gamble any more.

If I were to win a bet I would need to give it away to someone.
