7641  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ads auction rules on: August 31, 2021, 12:31:02 PM
Sometimes I wondering how much money 1xbet/1xbit spends for PR. I guess it should be tens of milions...
If they devoted some more time trying to run an honest operation they wouldn't have to spend that much on advertising.

It seems somehow logical to me that if theymos doesn't allow someone to advertise via banners (like in this case 1xbit), that their signature campaign gets banned too. But as we can see their campaign goes on. Is there any explanation why that's not the case, what am I missing here? After all, those sigs are shown the forum.
Theymos makes the decision what gets advertised via forum banners, whereas anyone can advertise anything (unless it's against forum rules) through their own signature. If forum ads advertised scams, questions as to why that is would be directed to theymos and theymos only. On the other hand, the forum's we don't moderate scams policy prevents him from meddling into what other people are advertising.

U smislu, sad sam Hero i zaboli me uho.

Do you agree that this is a utopia? In the real world, has anyone succeeded?
Succeeded in banning and making scammers unwelcome on internet forums? Yeah that's achievable.

A long time ago before torrents were as popular as they are today and people downloaded from sites like Rapidshares and Megaupload, I remember coming across a warez forum that gave away free premium accounts to some hosting sites. No idea how they got them, but I doubt they used legal methods. Looking back at it now, they were probably obtained by phishing or maybe carding. That forum had a marketplace where you could buy all kinds of stuff. Scamming and scammers were not allowed. The point is, a forum that supports pirated software, games, and movies had no tolerance for scammers. Why would Bitcointalk have?

Why use real words al all? It should be more secure using random letters, numbers, and special characters instead of real dictionary words. I have always wondered are the two examples below equally easy/difficult to bruteforce?

1. apple cup
2. !J-"g 5&b

They have the same number of characters, but the second sequence should be much more difficult to crack. Or a I looking at it wrongly?
7645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Credit card bans introduced in Ireland. on: August 30, 2021, 07:43:06 PM
If they are banning credit cards, what about debit or prepaid cards? They have also not mentioned anything about payment processors and how the ban will affect the use of those. A workaround (unless patched) could be to upload money into Skrill, Neteller, PayPal, or some of the other instant payment processors and then send those funds to a casino/sportsbook.

I am not sure what to tell you regarding the problems with the PIN keyboard. Maybe you are using an unusual screen resolution. You could try to change it to see if it helps. Regarding the disconnection problems, try using a VPN and see if that will make it better.

Trezor Suite is a relatively new software. Similar to Ledger Live, I am sure some people experience glitches and bugs, while others have a flawless experience. Anything could affect that. A particular hardware or software configuration, faulty drivers, corrupted installation files... I remember reading posts of people who had to abandon Ledger Live because after one update it simply crashed and they could never open it again. Other users didn't have such problems and it works just fine for them.
7647  Other / Meta / Re: My Dream Bitcointalk Forum on: August 30, 2021, 02:10:24 PM
If the member never does any of the above, that means the member ought not to pay for any evil. Because it can be said, the member is not gaining anything from the forum save knowledge.
He is not gaining anything in a monetary sense, but he still gets a lot. Like you said, he gains knowledge. Users also get help and advice if they ask for it. They can take part in discussions, get merits and merit others. Getting rid of the evil fee would be the best thing to do. Instead, scammers and scamming should be strictly forbidden. Scammers should be banned to make the marketplace and overall forum experience better for everyone.
7648  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A. Antonopoulos’ Take on Seed Splitting and Bruteforcing on: August 30, 2021, 01:45:25 PM
Is there a possibility you perhaps misheard/misremember, and he actually said 4-6 words rather than a single word of 4-6 characters?
I misheard, you are right. It was my mistake. I watched through several videos to find the correct one. This is the video. At 7:15 he starts talking about the passphrase length and says: "a simple 4 to 6 word, random English word passphrase is sufficient" Due to the way he structured that sentence got me thinking that he was talking about characters and not words.

If you enable the subtitles, you will notice that they are different from what he said in the video. In the subtitles they wrote: "a simple (set) of 4 to 6 random English words is a sufficient passphrase".

Sorry Andreas!

Jučer sam pogledaj jednu dobrz YouTube recenziju Bisq softvera.
7650  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: August 30, 2021, 12:41:47 PM
The name is the same as the person.
Say what now?

The worst is that the author mentioned that my account was banned.
Say what now x2? What "author"? Are you talking about me, the thread starter?
Looks like English isn't you main language, so this could be some weird google translation from your mother tongue. Maybe you were trying to say that the worst thing that can happen is that you get banned.
7651  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A. Antonopoulos’ Take on Seed Splitting and Bruteforcing on: August 30, 2021, 12:35:20 PM
I did see another video where he incorrectly stated (multiple times) that the BIP39 wordlist starts at "about" and ends at "zebra", though.
He sometimes makes mistakes or states incomplete information. In one of his bitcoin for beginners series, he advocates for the use of passphrases as an extension to your seed. But he goes on to mention that a simple 4-6 letter English word is a strong-enough passphrase. (I misheard. What he said is explained here). I can't comment on how easy that could be brute-forced, but I am sure some of you will.
7652  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Verify the Downloaded Version of Ledger Live on: August 30, 2021, 12:29:34 PM
<Snip>
You are asking the same questions and coming to the same conclusions like you did yesterday. If the update Ledger Live button is available on your computer and current version of LL, just click on it and update to the newest version. I wasn't joking when I said it yesterday. If you feel like verifying the authenticity of the downloaded software, just follow the step-by-step instructions in my OP. It's simple.
7653  Other / Meta / Re: My Dream Bitcointalk Forum on: August 29, 2021, 05:06:28 PM
I don't understand your implication (the italicized part), what does it mean?
He is probably suggesting that if someone is required to pay an evil fee, he/she shouldn't have to do it immediately after the registration. Instead, the payment should be delayed to a later date. But that would then mean that the admins would have to keep tags on who does what, and if they notice that a member who needs to pay the fee is trying to join a bounty/signature campaign or wants to sell something, he first has to pay the fee. What if that member never does any of that? He could then use the forum without having paid any fee. That system wouldn't work.
7654  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: August 29, 2021, 04:36:11 PM
7655  Other / Meta / Re: [Banned appeal] on: August 29, 2021, 04:16:11 PM
The forum has only two admins, and since I have been on the forum (6 years), I have only witnessed once that one admin has publicly commented on the perma ban he has personally removed...
It wasn't an admin in ReguluHr's case, but global mod hilariousandco made a short post when he unbanned ReguluHr after almost two years or waiting.

I unbanned it.
I don't remember ChiBitCTy's case and if there even was a ban appeal thread. But he was another valuable member that got banned and later pardoned.
7656  Other / Meta / Re: Here Is One Reason Why Legendary Members Get So Many Merits on: August 29, 2021, 04:02:25 PM
I have seen instances that newbies like me or Jrn members reply first, second and even third in a post like that but won't be given any merit no matter how reasonable the information looks ..
There are no rules to what is worth meriting and what is not. What you consider reasonable and merit-worthy, I might not, and vice versa. The fact that you replied first doesn't put you in a better position to be merited compared to someone who replied after you.

Seriously, i mean no disrespect but it is what i have seen several times and it sucks😑
I am not saying these to gain merit to myself Earnestly, but this is what i feel..
There is a thread where you can add links to posts you believe deserve merits. It can be your own posts or those of other members. [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source. Feel free to use it. You can even PM me when you do and I will take a look and see if I like what you shared.

A couple of suggestions. Don't quote the entire OP when you are replying to someone. There is no need for it. The fact that you are writing a post in this thread is enough for me and others to understand that you are somehow contributing to this discussion. Take a look at how long your post is because you quoted my entire OP. I would appreciate if you could remove the quoted part because it looks bad. It's especially irritating to quote posts that contain a lot of images. When you quote, you can leave only the part you are replying to from someone's post. Just like I did with your post.

Another thing is double-posting. It's against the rules. If someone were to report your second post, it would be merged with the first one or deleted by mods. Usually, the first option happens.

Most of the time what I think is beneficial by my own standards is also helpful to the vast majority of other readers, because I have really high standards to what I consider helpful guidance vs. tripe that's just been recycled in dozens of other threads (including in Dev&Tech)
I was sure that I just misunderstood you because your merit history shows one thing and here you are saying something that to me sounded you merit only those that are helpful to you.

I'm not sure where you got the "personally" part from but I never wrote that.
From the bolded part of your post which is about solving a problem you have and offering guidance to you. Like I said above, a misunderstanding of what you were trying to say.
7657  Other / Meta / Re: [Banned appeal] on: August 29, 2021, 08:08:30 AM
I have not been banned by the mod.I thank the reason why I am banned this time is not because of these topics.
The admins know the exact reason that you got banned and the report/reports filled against you. If they want, they will reply here with more info about what got you banned.

Users can get banned years after they posted something that was copy/pasted. So the fact that you wrote some posts, they remained visible for a long time, doesn't mean that you got banned for one of your most recent posts. In theory, it can be the first one you ever wrote. Admins usually react and assess reports sent by other forum members. If there is no report against you, no actions will be taken my admins most of the time.
7658  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: August 29, 2021, 07:29:35 AM

7659  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: August 29, 2021, 07:19:10 AM

7660  Economy / Economics / Re: What’s the nature of currency? on: August 29, 2021, 07:07:34 AM
There's not a problem with traditional centralized payment processors to the point where the world needs a decentralized immutable option.  To the extent the world wants one, there are currently better options than bitcoin due to bitcoin's consensus-based refusal to adapt.
Bitcoin is at the top of the pyramid. The community has put it there and they are keeping it there. It leads the race in market capitalization and trading volume, so people are obviously OK with what they get when they use bitcoin. If a time comes where the community decides to shift to something else or a majority of users abandon bitcoin for some other asset, the devs can ask themselves why that happened.
