And, the URI scheme works with the Blockcain.com wallet so you can put it back on the list.
Now we have two people claiming it works and one who says it doesn't. I will just wait for the next reply from someone who is interested in checking before I put it back on the list. Like in sports, let's see if the result will be 3:1 or a draw after all.

BlueWallet also works (obviously, mainnet wallet only, not LN), so you can add it as well.
BlueWallet has been added. Thanks for the tip.
7682  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 04, 2021, 06:35:04 AM
I have a crap multicoin hot wallet on my phone. When I need an address on my PC I either text myself and use google messages to copy and paste or I just email it to myself.
Since I have several laptops and devices and only one of them has crypto software and my Ledger Live installation, I sometimes need to save a bitcoin address to check it on the other device or do something with it. For that purpose I also sometimes save it as a draft in my email so I can access it quickly on the second device.

So this morning I sent a text and did a copy & paste and it was wrong, just a few letters at the end. I flashed back to this thread and worried, is it my phone, is it the laptop? Where and when and how did I get compromised? WTF?

The answer:
So....I really need to start wearing my glasses when doing stuff. That or get a bigger laptop screen.
So what actually happened? I assume you didn't get infected with some clipboard hijacker. Was the copy/pasted thing correct and you just didn't see it properly or did you copy the wrong stuff?
7683  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Updating from 3.3.8 to current version 4.1.5 on: September 04, 2021, 06:23:18 AM
But it is a good practice to always back up your wallet file and/or seed and store them in a different and safe location before updating the app to a newer version.
That goes without saying. You should back up your seed and wallet file (if you have to backup the wallet file as well) as soon as you set up a new wallet and before you make your first deposit to it. I didn't feel like mentioning that and expected that the OP had already taken care of that part since it's the most basic thing you should do when dealing with non-custodial wallets.
7684  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Updating from 3.3.8 to current version 4.1.5 on: September 03, 2021, 09:25:42 AM
It will give no issue, you can update. Better to download a new Electrum wallet from https://electrum.org (verify its signature) and import your seed phrase or make use of wallet file, but make sure you have your seed phrase offline with you in case.
He won't have to recover his wallet from seed. Even if he uninstalled Electrum and installed the newest version, his old wallet files wouldn't be deleted. As long as he uses the same Electrum source (if he used the Windows installer in the past, he should download the Windows installer for 4.1.5 as well), his wallet files will be found in the same directory as before. The next time he runs the app, he needs to simply enter his old password and that's it.
7685  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Problem importing p2wpkh private key into mobile wallet - bluewallet on: September 03, 2021, 09:06:02 AM
Note that the use of prefixes ("p2pkh:", "p2wpkh-p2sh:", and "p2wpkh:") is, as far as I'm aware, an Electrum only thing.

I'm not aware of any other wallets that actually require or use the prefixes like this.
I haven't experimented with too many alternative wallets, but do they all offer you an option to click on the type of address you want to recover? As in legacy, nested segwit, and native segwit.

If not, how does the wallet know which address format I want to recover? The same private key can be used for all three address formats. As HCP found, if all addresses are empty, the app will recover the legacy address? But what if all or 2/3 have inputs, what then?
7686  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallet problems relating to an obsolete cryptographic keyboard...... on: September 03, 2021, 08:57:57 AM
I have to admit, despite carefully reading everything you have written so far, I find you making increasingly less and less sense.
I have to agree with you on this one Huh

And, this makes absolutely no sense: "My user name was encrypted with 2 or 3 special characters that have since become obsolete, and taken offline by ibm"
It's because of that sentence that I suggested the above sources showing various characters. When he said that the characters became obsolete, I thought they can no longer be found on most standard keyboards. OP might be talking about something else entirely.
7687  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best crypto venture for beginers on: September 03, 2021, 08:50:36 AM
In my opinion, Pmalek gave you perhaps the best advice, investing in and holding one of the most popular cryptocurrencies will be your best option. Later on, as you learn more about the other options, you may decide to invest a smaller amount of the funds in the riskier ventures.
One thing that I have noticed with some people new to crypto is that they have this wrong assumption that they missed out making huge profits with Bitcoin. So they are now seeking for the next best thing that will make them those x100 or x1000 gains. That's wrong from the start. What makes you think you will be able to identify the next winner in a sea of crap? Some investors will surely get lucky after having placed some money in such a venture, but for the majority, it's just a dream. You are much safer sticking with the things that work rather than trying to pick from those who promise that they will work.
7688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: September 03, 2021, 08:40:33 AM
Weird! I just realized that the warning message appears only when I click on the second link! Maybe it has something to do with the comment part at the end of the link!
The difference between the first and second link is in the amounts and the added comment. The first one has a "Payment to Pmalek" comment while the second one has no comment at all. The obvious question to ask now is, does the blockchain wallet have a comments field while sending crypto? If it doesn't, maybe that's why the first links isn't recognized by the app.
7689  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: September 02, 2021, 12:34:17 PM
I guess it was expected that sooner or later the time will come that we can no longer consider hardware wallets to be safe to use on compromised and malware-infected computers.

I have been checking the entire address anyways. I might sound a bit arrogant, but since I check my addresses fully and multiple times, this couldn't happen to me. But I know that many like to check just a few characters in the beginning and a few at the end. Luckily, this hasn't been turned into a real malware just yet. As long as standard security practices are being followed, even if it does, you should know how to not get your devices infected.

Nice share dkbit98!

My user name was encrypted with 2 or 3 special characters that have since become obsolete, and taken offline by ibm...
I have to be honest and admit that this is the first time I hear that certain special characters have been removed. Do you know exactly which characters you used? Check out this source, maybe you can find what you are looking for there. I also found this. Just copy and paste the needed characters if you see them.

When I ask a follow-up question, I usually hear nothing anymore. I'm still trying to figure out what works best.
I wouldn't change that if I were you. The reason why they don't reply back is because they are probably thinking screw this guy, there are other people who can whitelist me. I'll just try to trick one of them. If the user is legit, they shouldn't have a problem answering a few questions and removing any doubts that are maybe there.
7693  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: September 02, 2021, 09:48:34 AM
Btw I have tried the URI on blockchain.com mobile wallet but it wont work while it actually fine when using with trust wallet, electrum and coinomi, both mobile wallets.
Thanks for testing that. I wonder why it doesn't work on blockchain. I am sure I remembered correctly that it used to work even with blockchain's wallet.

I will add Trust Wallet and Coinomi to the list of wallets that support the URI Protocol Scheme and I will remove Blockchain.
If anyone else knows any other good wallets where it works, feel free to mention it. But please test it before you do, so we can avoid spreading misinformation.

I have heard about them but I have never tried out that platform. I even thought they were connected to sportsbet.io for a while but they aren't. Their ANN thread is located in the Alt section, so it wasn't possible for me to come across them while doing my initial research. The site uses the EOS blockchain and in the past accepted EOS and some unknown coin. But according to the info you posted, they now accept Bitcoin as well. If that is true, I will check it out with the next update.
7695  Other / Meta / Re: My message to Elon MUSK was deleted by a moderator for no good reason on: September 01, 2021, 12:15:25 PM
What do aliens and carbon nanotubes have to do with Bitcoin and Bitcoin discussion? Who cares if you are vegan or if you eat meat and dairy?
If you want to talk to Elon, contact him in private. Why post that in a public forum? Maybe you should start drinking to clear your head a bit Wink

There are two things about your reply that I don't agree with:

1. You are saying that the knowledge and information available here should be worth the evil fee that some users have to pay. It is if you have spent a lot of time here and know what you are getting in return. A new user who just got here can't and shouldn't be asked to value that. And besides, the information is either free or it isn't. Even if you don't register, you can still read everything that is being written. You just can't participate in the discussions. So, you aren't really paying for the information. You are paying for the right to post.

2. Forcing some users to pay while others don't have to isn't exactly the best thing to do. Imagine if a whole range of Nigerian IPs were banned and subjected to evil fees. I assume you and your countrymen would complain about it and say that it doesn't make sense and that it isn't fair. And it wouldn't be.
7697  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: September 01, 2021, 11:08:02 AM
There is a new platform though, the NFT esports platform: http://2CrazyNFT.com. Maybe that's where they now focus all their attention.
Thanks for the update. Since they only deleted their opening post and didn't leave any information for the community, I am simply going to remove them from my OP. Seems like a very unprofessional way to just pack up and leave without saying anything.
7698  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: September 01, 2021, 09:44:23 AM
Then he joined another platform named Fiverr and he is now established there.
Fiverr is a platform for freelancers and businesses employing contractors for various types of work. It has got nothing to do with cryptocurrencies except if your friend is a developer who writes code for crypto projects. Foul language would never be a reason why I would leave. You shouldn't care what other people on the internet call you or how they address you. I also can't remember a case where someone was bullied or insulted for no reason whatsoever. But then again, I don't spend much time in the Reputation and Scam Accusations subs where that might be happening.
7699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: September 01, 2021, 09:36:51 AM
I think this URL means of payment will not be resistant against such malware.
Good point and it got me thinking about the same thing as well. I am really not sure whether a clipboard hijacker would be able to change the address if you just clicked on it and it automatically filled up the payment details as is the case with this URI scheme. Does anyone know for sure?

Better for newbies to manually fill the transaction details and carefully re-check those info before sign to broadcast .
Everyone should double check where and how they are sending their coins irrespective of if you do it manually or it gets automatically filled. Just check that the destination address matches the one you need to send to after clicking on the link and you will be fine.

I'm curious on something about this URL. Would it modify the settings on my own wallet? For example, if I set my default denomination to mBTC and someone create a transaction in BTC, would it readjust on my end, or remain as mBTC?
I just tried it with the links in OP on Electrum. When I have my base unit set at BTC, the displayed amount to send is 1.4 BTC. When I change it to mBTC, it shows 1400 mBTC instead. It will show the amounts in whatever unit you selected for yourself.
7700  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: August 31, 2021, 04:12:26 PM
You can use a simple code to receive a payment from someone else, where that person only needs to click on a link to automatically fill out the transaction information.
The imported info includes the destination address of the payment, the amount, and a description (optional).

The code looks like this:
Code:
bitcoin:bc1qc8qk228490dwvfcrpzmnx8c2p7sh0k2e72tg78?amount=10&message=payment

- After "bitcoin:" you enter the destination address.
- After the address, the code must include "?amount=" followed by the amount in BTC.
- If you don't want to add a description, delete the part of the code the follows the amount you entered. The code would then look like this:
Code:
bitcoin:bc1qc8qk228490dwvfcrpzmnx8c2p7sh0k2e72tg78?amount=10

If you are using a crypto wallet that supports Bitcoin payment URIs, copy and paste the code into your internet browser (works both on Chrome and Firefox), and you will initiate the transaction generation process.
If you are posting this on Bitcointalk, you can modify the URL with a hyperlink. Here are two examples of how it can look:

Click here to send the funds
Pay 0.25 BTC by clicking on this link

Many popular wallets support the URI scheme. Here are just some that I know of:
  • Electrum
  • Bitcoin Core
  • Armory
  • Mycelium
  • Trust Wallet
  • Copay
  • Edge
  • Exodus
  • Coinomi
  • BlueWallet
  • Blockchain.com Wallet
